I want to share my experience with other customers so that others wouldn’t have to go through the trouble I went through. On 12/6, the Swiss consulate mailed a critical document to me via registered mail through this location. Note this post office is only one mile away from my location. Two weeks later, I contacted the consulate and was told that the mail had gone out a long time and that USPS had lost several packages in the past month. They urged me to start a missing mail search which I did on the same day. Nothing happened until the 19th when I showed up at this post office and requested that they search for my package using the tracking code on the shipping label. The lady working there said, word for word, “We don’t have anything in the back. We don’t have a system to track your mail. We can’t locate your package because it wasn’t scanned, meaning it’s never been picked up by a truck. All packages picked up by a truck will be scanned,” I said, “ so it must still be here” She was like, “The next post office forgot to scan it” I asked,” How would you know.” She couldn’t come up with an answer, so I thanked her and left. An hour later, I got a text saying my package had been found and would be delivered to me today. Then I found a note in my mailbox today instead of my mail; I went to the other location as instructed and was only told to check back tomorrow. It’s been an incredibly stressful and frustrating experience. I hope nobody else has to go through it.

After reading other reviews, I realize that others have had the same horrible experience as I did. Japan consulate sent me an important document in December, after waiting for two weeks I called the consulate and was told that the package was sent to the USPS office. Then I visited here, asking about the package with my tracking number, all I got is bad attitude and “the package is not here” “if it’s not scanned, it’s not in the system” “we don’t have anything in the back” “all packages are scanned before they are picked up to the facility”. None of the employees cared about what actually happened. They didn’t care about the the mail was supposed to be in the system but was not, or it was supposed to arrive a long time ago and didn’t. They didn’t try to make an effort to talk to a manager or a delivery person, all they did was to make it look like it was not their business, I was harassing them. Speed is extremely slow as well. It’s not on the customers that they hate their job this much. If you have a choice, don’t come here, go to another office.

These people are lazy and know nothing about customer service. I came in requesting a copy of my receipt from a transaction that occured just one day before. The female clerk said that it wasn't possible for them to provide that, even though I paid with credit card. I came back in another day and spoke to a different male clerk who said the same thing. I had to spend 2hrs on the phone with customer service filing a complaint (the customer service agent was wonderful and super helpful. I couldn't have solved this without her. She informed me of the actual policies and capabilities of the branch.) I went in a 3rd time, finally got hold of the manager who said they could easily locate this for me but it would take and hour or so. After 4hrs, I realized they were never going to call me as promised so I had to go in 4 times to get receipt. Despicable. I will move my business to either FedEx or UPS.

Customer service of any type cannot get any worse than this post office. Waited on line for ten minutes, get to the window. I would like to purchase a money order. Guy tells me he is not authorized to issue money orders, tells me his coworker is coming back in 15 minutes. So I come back 15 minutes later, wait in line for another TEN MINUTES. Lady tells me I have one money order left, but I can't give it to you because it will mess up the machine. Wouldn't it been way less insulting to tell me you don't have anymore rather than tell me you have one left, but you're not going to sell it to me? All the people that work here move so methodically slow it makes building the great pyramids seem like a 30 second commercial. At least go to a different post office, this place doesn't have it's act together in every way imaginable. I strongly recommend you go to a different post office

This is THE worst post office location in the city solely for the people who work there. I’ve been in SEVERAL times and have not had a single hassle-free experience which is frustrating as someone who runs a small business and constantly ships out packages with pre-paid labels. I could write a novel about all my negative experience but instead, I walk a little further to go to a different location. On a side note, fix your pre-paid drop box situation! It’s been gone for so long. Last time I was there, I asked an employee about it and was directed to go around the corner in the back area. When I did ALL the boxes had “out of service” signs on them, when I went back to talk to the employee, she literally RAN AWAY FROM ME to the back. This is my first BAD review on anything publicly. But these employees earned it.

I truly didn't expect my experience to be so bad, but it was. The workers spoke in a condescending tone when we did something incorrectly and were annoyed at everything that was going on in the post office. When a lady was taping a box incorrectly, instead of helping or saying something directly to the customer, the worker just says out loud "that's not how you tape a box." That's not how you correct someone either. Don't forget to bring your own tape as well. Someone had left tape for people to borrow, but the workers took it away. I understand it was for business, but they were so rude about it. What could've been a ten minute trip if they had helped or corrected what we were doing wrong ended up being a thirty minute fiasco. So rude and unpleasant.

Right at the opening this morning, the impression I received from this post office clerk is that she totally lacks of good manners. She needs customer service training immediately. She does not deserve -not- even one star. That clerk should have been fired long time ago. What is wrong with the management? They should read all these reviews and do something about it. I usually do not complaint or give feed back using the internet; but today this woman - hit my limits-. If the US Post office can not do their job.... US Government sell the business to Amazon maybe they can figure out to do a better service. I will continue going to the Pine Street post office for now. At least their staff in that office are polite.

Clerk 14 is a calm level-headed reasonable angel. I bought a money order from Clerk 14, my bank refused the money order. I went to the closest post office I could, their clerk told me to write on the money order, my driver license was expired, I just forgot, that office refused to cash my own money order. So I ended up with a $100 piece of trash paper, I live in my car, I got that little bit of cash performing heavy metal songs on 5th and Market. I go back to Clerk 14, I introduce myself to her, again. Clerk 14 remembered me, I only came here 1 time. I tell her the tough situation. Clerk 14 verifies that it is the money order she sold me, she refunds me. Thank you, for the hand up, Clerk 14.

Who still sends letters? Well, I do. A lot of friends in Europe have been moving, getting kids and such. Since no one sends cards anymore people love getting them. Especially from the other side of the world. Not having been in a post office for a long time anymore I was surprised by how cheap it is to send a card. Little over a dollar. And it usually arrives in under a week. Yes, the lines can be long. So relax, take your time and dream away to all the destinations you could be sending your card to. Maui, anyone?

I know it's been 18 years since the last time I stepped foot there, but I wonder what happened to Yolanda Patterson? She used to work the front desk, and you couldn't miss her. She had such a positive attitude and excellent customer service. And to compliment her, she was absolutely stunning. Just to say that she looked like a combination of Tyra Banks and Halle Berry as well. She popped in my mind the other day and if she is reading this review, I just wanted to say hi, and yes, hope she is doing great.

Worst manager ever encounter. The manager there is unprofessional, unkind employee of USPS I have ever seen. - I moved a lot; I've been lots of USPS offices... I've always enjoyed their kindness. I was supprised by her attitude toward customers and other employees. Other people looks ok. I don't know how they are working with awful person. probably, they don't have choice.. so sorry for them. I will never go that place again. Worst experience EVER !!

  • Nicholas Stoffregen

People only seem to post a review after an extremely bad visit. I came here and was pleasantly surprised at the quickness with which the ~8 people in line ahead of me were taken care of. Judging by their and my experience, I'd say this 2 star rating on 10 reviews (at the time of this post at least) is not deserved at all. Just be thoughtful about avoiding peak times and consider using the self service kiosk to skip the line if you're in a rush.

  • AJ Cartas

No matter how many people the USPS has on the register, they will always be slow and that's the problem. For me, the rating scale for USPS is 1-3 just because they never go above and beyond and they don't need to, which is understandable. I would say my experience with USPS here was average, hence the 2-star review. 3-star being amazing for a USPS. Make sure to have everything ready because if you wait, the line WILL get longer.

  • E D

Entrance is along Front Street and Clay. Service is usually quick and friendly, though it does get slow if there are only two people working the counter. This location has all the Ready Post and Priority Mail boxes you'd need, but no tape so make sure you bring your own. I also didn't see bubble wrap, but it may not have been stocked at the time.

  • AT Kippes

Terrible customer service. They go out of the way to make a sure you have an overall negative experience. The new clerk was friendly and helpful, but soon that person will go somewhere else or be beaten down by the others working there who clearly hate their jobs, do as little as possible, and take great pleasure in being rude and incompetent.

  • Gaines Coleman

An always busy post office. They have lots of supplies, gift cards, and regular cards for sale. Not helped by all the clueless customers that don't know how to fill out international mailing forms, or don't have their boxes taped shut. Regardless, they handle all of this with a consistency that is laudable for any customer-facing organization.

  • C.R. Durham

Easy to find. Helpful people, which today is a rarity and a completely wonderful breath of fresh air! There was 1 person in front of me and 3 windows open so i didn't wait more than 3 minutes. They didn't even care that i had a pocket full of change and i didn't know how much postage i needed. Top marks for helping me, thank-you!

  • Kyle Maxwell

This post office is like all others I’ve been to, under staffed so the lines are long. During peak times like before work, lunch and after. Some of the customers also don’t know what they’re doing so it adds more time. Once I got to the counter was able to pay and leave very fast. Photos around noon / lunch time.

  • Ian Henderson

Poor customer service. Walked in to ask about mailing options and the woman lazily gave me the most ambiguous explanations, and most approximate estimates while sipping her coffee. Hardly offered any assistance despite almost nobody else being in there. Obviously doesn't want to work there or just doesn't care.

  • scott whitfield

Slowest post office I have ever been to. Rude also. They ignore people and are very unprofessional. When signing up for po box she made me stand there for over 30 min while she went to the back. I have had several points boxes in various locations. Always an easy process except for here.

  • Okan Sayılgan

Slowest mailing in entire United States. There is only one lady working here at all times, and she is pretty slow. Every single time I need to send a package, wait time is min 25+ mins. For literally 5 seconds return process, I waited 25mins, that's amazing. I wish there was 0 stars.

  • Ning K

I was scared by the negative reviews before getting here. I have to say that the staff are extremely kind. They are always in patience and answer my questions in friendly attitude and come up with useful solution. Each of them are very responsive to their work.

  • Tabrez Shaikh

There is only one person on a register to serve the service and the queue is always a very long here in this location the other person is no where this is happening repeatedly in this location.Usps should have to hire more people for this location.

  • Heng Zhang

The black lady working there has the worst attitude. Yelled at me and refused to tell me where to put the stamps for no reason. I asked her to help me but she just walked to the back after taking my money. I’d give a 0 star if that’s an option.

  • C A

Worst service ever! It's Friday 5:20pm and the the black lady behind the counter can't even open her mouth to tell me up front that they are already closed. I though their opening hours are until 5:30pm. Terrible!!!

  • Peter Lee

Employees who works here actually are decent but this place is understaffed. 12:30pm peak hour and only one employee working?? Shame on you USPS! We need to privatize USPS in order to make it great again!

  • Tyler Nguyen

i literallt haven’t seen a branch so severely understaffed when there is so much demand for their services. it’s in the heart of of embarcadero but i have never seen more than 1-2 employees at a time

  • Christian

Most rude staff I’ve ever run into at a USPS location. Couldn’t even ask what I had done wrong so I could fix it, they just kept saying they wouldn’t accept. Will use anyone else to ship.

  • Magica Xie

Try all you can to avoid this place. They treat ppl like trash, give attitude no matter what. Don’t do this job if you hate it and stop abusing your customers bc you have this job!

  • Robert Zomokic

The WORST employees ever. Extremely rude and obnoxious. You ask them a question and they look at you as though your asking for a million dollars. LONG lines, LONG waits!!!

  • Matt Peterson

Someday, someway, the postman/postwoman will put the right mail in the right mailbox... I can fully appreciate once or twice but c'mon guys - 3 times to the wrong floor?

  • Wisa Sukontasawat

Came often, and never ever had good experiences with them at all. They treated me like I ask for free stuff. Not sure why they still open if they dont want to service.

  • Edison Liang

Never ever come here again. The manager is super rude and super unprofessional. Please change the manager for this store. Extremely terrible service.

  • Vincent Brown

The location pointed to on the map is wrong. This is the Hyatt hotel. The nearest post office is three blocks away form the hotel. Fix the map guys!

  • Sabrina Laporte

Bad service ever! Staff don't care and take all the time in the world well aware this business area location. No smile no hello nothing! Last time

  • Jorge Alvarado

Definitely not as helpful. It’s like we’re begging them for service. If people don’t like their jobs, then quit. USPS, come on!

  • David Bendet

Never before have I experienced employees that seem so upset to be working. Slow motion.... unhelpful. Understaffed...

  • Haitao Huang
