I really love Union Market and it's been my go to for weekly food shopping since they opened this location on Court Street. It's not for everyone, as it only has a limited selection for each type of product but that's exactly why I prefer it, they have exactly what I want without the distractions, it's perfectly curated to feature the best tasting products in each category (in my opinion anyways) which makes shopping there a breeze, things are well laid out and easy to get to without having to browse through endless ailes with 50 varieties of cereal or paper towels. That means I get everything on my weekly list, from staples to gourmet specialities in under 20mins which is virtually impossible in larger supermarkets. In addition to the great selection, the staff is courteous and friendly, the location is always clean and well organized and as a bonus they play good music ! On the downside, it can get a little tight when it's busy and as mentioned you won't find certain products that are common in other supermarkets like big name cleaning supplies or cereal but if you're ok with that I thinks it's well worth the trade off. Prices are also a higher than your average supermarket but not unreasonable for New York city and still well under Whole Foods prices. Keep up the good work Union Market!
We live in the hood. We find the staff of our Union Market (Court Street) very pleasant and helpful. This Union Market has a good selection of cheeses and other products. Their stuff in our judgement is good. Yes, pricey indeed but again good selection of quality high end products. We find it worth it for stuff not available other where in the vicinity and/or after hours as shop opens early and closes late. Our only beef -- their baguettes are kept, for sanitary reasons, in paper sleeves which make them chewy by end of the day! The baguettes shuld be kept behind the counter (away from people) and place in a paper sleeve only at time of purchase. This will guarantee optimal crispness!
Just returned from a disappoint visit with a cashier who obviously does not want to work there. He did not respond when I said hello and neither did he tell me he was accepting credit cards only. He argued he did but he clearly did not. He was leaning against the divider and then another employee came over to whisper in his ear to joke. In addition, I had to sign the machine for my credit card transaction and I have asked Union Market to stop this unnecessary procedure which is not sanitary in light of COVID. And to top it off, they had no hand sanitized in the dispenser at the door. They are making money and really don't care about their customers.
Good location. The market is a neighborhood favorite because of good quality ready to eat meals, produce and deli counter. If you are looking for major brands you might be disappointed as Union Market stocks their preferred brands and their private labels. You can find almost everything you might need to cook a 'from scratch meal'. I thought prices for organic produce is somewhat inflated. Store organization is a little strange but after shopping here a few times you should be able to navigate the maze. Checking out is also different with 'hand over the counter and then back you to bag' style cashiers.
If it weren’t the only game in the neighborhood for harder-to-find stuff, I’d never come here. With the exception of the cheesemonger, this is a group of people with the worst prices, the worst attitudes towards customer service, & the least interest in performing the basic functions of their jobs. Go to the green grocers across the street, Fish Tales, up the way, or GF, if you can possibly avoid this mess. Take, for example, this piece of fish I paid eighteen bucks for. This fish guy hacked it to pieces, chucked it into a bag, & never gave it a second thought. GO ELSEWHERE
I don’t shop very often as it’s only 3 working people in my household, but when I do I ALWAYS try to go to Union Market. They have some of the freshest/ripest fruit I’ve seen in a long time, and compared to the size of the store the set up and selection of grocery items to sell are amazing My favorite part of the store is the deli/prepared foods section. Let me be honest and to the point, Union Market is an 11 out of a 10. Lol let’s not forget the employees they actually smile, say hello and it looks like the genuinely mean it.
Walked in for the first time just to look, walked out with a bag of groceries. Beautiful shop and very helpful staff. We just moved from near Dean & Deluca in Soho and this will be our replacement. Prices don't seem so outrageous when you are used to Whole Foods and Dean & Deluca. I didn't see a single stroller, but if that is your problem you should probably move out of Brooklyn Heights/Cobble Hill.
They sell old meat and fish products. I bought some lamb and calamari and everything stinks. In addition it is very expensive. Prices are almost double comparing to Whole Foods. Do not buy meat of fish at this market or check it before you leave the store. Of course the store looks neat so you would not expect to get there old meat but unfortunately they do.
When you're down the road from Trader Joe's you have to offer something special to stay around, and Union Market does. They have great produce, dairy alternatives, cheese, ready-made food and organic/gluten free/natural options. It's a little higher price point for basics, but for something out of the norm, it's perfect.
Pricey yet a decent selection of health foods. It's more of a Gourmet Market than a Health Food Store. Needs an even more expansive Organic Produce section plus more sugar-free alternatives (ie. coconut-sugar or monkfruit sweeteners) + nut-free options. Would be useful to also have Holistic Healing Remedies.
Oatmeal and coffee is a staple. Best deal in the neighborhood and always clean and smells like fresh produce when you walk in the door. The girl seen immediately the coffee was empty and just seconds later had the next lined up just for my convenience. Pleasure doing business
This is a well organized supermarket with lots of great options. The staff here are friendly and ready to help. One thing that stands out for them is their own line of products which are pretty decent. I mean, what do you expect! Even Whole foods don't guarantee freshness.
Great selection of The Best in fruits vegetables and healthy dairy. It’s a quick shop, I can get in and out in 15 minutes because it’s so well organized. People will help you find things and if they are out of it, tell you when it will be restocked. I give them 5 *****!
They offer a large assortment of quality products, but some staples are absurdly expensive here compared to other local stores (rice and lemons were the first examples to come to mind). In particular I appreciate their selection of cheeses, preserves, and baked goods.
Check the date before you buy anything here - including the milk and the fancy cheeses. This place is great for thinks like olives and sushi. For grocery shopping, walk a few blocks in pretty much any direction and you will find better quality.
Great fresh produce, good selection of meats, and great quality fish for the price. They carry the best store-bought pizza dough as well. They play a frenetic jazz playlist which seems to set the pace. A little pricey without being overpriced.
Moderate to high on the price scale, but very convenient and with a solid, high quality selection in the vein of Whole Foods. Google and Apple pay is a plus. Small but nice selection of "specialty" beer that is cheaper than other local stores.
I go there for their cheese. I 'guiltily' spend $40 on merlot soaked cheese. Guy with long hair in the back turned me on to it! Dam u .Their jerk chicken wrap had too much salt. Sushi is slamming. Parking is good. Prices are exorbitant. …
Not the largest selection of produce in the world, but for what the do carry they have some amazing stuff. They have a pretty decent cheese selection and their rotisserie chicken is amazing! On more then one occasion I’ve had an unpleasant
I love the variety and large selection of organic, healthier options! Prices are high, so I look for good deals when I'm there!! I love stores like this! I do hope they become more affordable,, so I can shop without having to limit myself!
Unbelievablely expensive I mean I get it it's Brooklyn heights, Carroll gardens, boerum hill etc and every yuppie professional with a 1000$$ baby stroller shops here but the sticker shock here can lead to digitalis... …
It is freezing in this store, probably 45 degrees inside when it is 60 degrees outside. This makes it not only extremely unpleasant for shoppers, I can see the employees were freezing too. That is an inhuman working condition. I
Love this market, however, I was disappointed with the service at the rotisserie chicken counter. The lovely gentleman who serviced customers for quite some time I understand no longer works at this location. He is truly missed.
The store is smaller than the average supermarket so the selection is accordingly a little narrower. This would not be a one-stop shop for most people. Clean and generally well-stocked, but many items are comically overpriced.
Store is little above average in terms of prices. But way above it in terms of the quality and how fresh things are. I get it that when you get quality you charge above the average, and that is why I love this Union Market.
Just had to leave this place, as none of the stocking staff were wearing masks over their mouths while they laughed and spoke over the fresh produce. This is the easiest, most basic way to prevent the spread of Covid.
This is a good gourmet food store in my neighborhood. Wonderful cheeses, produce, baked goods, meats, seafood, etc. They don't carry an extensive amount of grocery items but they usually have what you need.
Great place with really nice, high quality products. Their bakery is probably the best they have, they offer breads and pastries from bakeries around New York, lovely. Their customer service is excellent!
I'm rarely in here even though it's around the block for me. Why, who knows!? But I should be because their selections are amazing and the crew that works there are fantastic. Helpful and knowledgeable.
Great produce, fairly stocked, slightly more expensive than gourmet grocery stores. The fast paced jazz music will get your heart racing in this tiny store which can fill with people.
The prices are really high and I recommend to wait for some good deals. But all in all the union market is a better choice to choose from if you would like to get some healthier food
Union Market is like a mini version of Whole Foods. Nice selection of produce and gourmet foods. Their store brand whole bean coffee and fresh rotisserie chicken are both excellent.
Surprisingly not that crowded just before New Year’s. I was pleasantly surprised by the prices! I ended up feeding three for dinner on New Year’s with plenty of leftovers for $30!!
Really like this gourmet supermarket. Love their quiche, salads, dressings, curry chicken salad, raisen walnut rolls, brownies, etc... Their prices are a bit high but worth it.
Excellent store. Find almost everything you need there , gourmet items etc. The highest of quality and the freshest the fresh food. A little bit pricey by beginning you pay for
THE STEAKS!!!! Union Market has some of the juiciest steaks i've found so far in grocery store. Big cuts as well. Their meat selection is worth the journey for me to get here.
It is very expensive. I do not go often. I can’t. However whan I need special food or for a good brunch homemade it is the perfect place. The quality of the food is very good
High end specialty market with good organic produce, seafood and meat. Decent selection of dry goods and small frozen foods selection. It isn't cheap, but it is good quality.
Very nice selection of foods. They sometimes seem to lack everyday things that you could expect at most grocery stores but I still love the place. Nice olive selection.
Awesome selection of produce. Great staff, great musical selection: mostly jazz from the 1950s to the 1970d. I guess this is all I ever wanted to find in a supermarket.
They don’t tare the containers in seafood section properly. I’ve been overcharged twice. The $/lb already atrocious. Go to Fish Tales up the block for seafood instead.
Bakery review: they carry sugar sweet sunshine cupcakes but the temperature they keep these at are way too cold. It was frozen. Pls keep it at a higher temp. Thanks!
Great neighborhood market although a little expensive and with limited selection. The prepared food is good. Especially the avocado sandwich and the roast chickens
Love turkey sandwich but you have to take the sun dried tomatoes off. Nobody likes those but the 80s live on. Just pick them off and a a food sandwich for 2018
The Union Market on Court Street, is different from other's in Brooklyn, they have a friendly knowledgeable staff and they carry a variety of organic produce.
Good things on every shelf. There's a free coffee too, but it's not good. So stick to the things you're paying for! A bit expensive but hey what isn't in NY.
You can find anything you need there, which is great when you're missing an ingredient. Otherwise, it's just really expensive for your entire cart.
Great selection of cheese, unique vegetables. Fresh meat and seafood and so much more. Everything for cooking, baking, gurment food in one place.
Quality of food is good, but pricing is insane, and most importantly, staffing at checkout is horrible. They should all go to Trader Joe school.
Nice selections of meat & produce. WAY too expensive though. Better off shopping at a combination of Trader Joe's, Pacific Green, and Paisano's.
Don't get shrimp here unless you're looking for a very strong iodine flavor at "union markup" prices. Step it up UM, your seafood is mediocre.
Like this place. It's like a mini Whole Foods. It's a small joint, but daily necessities are there. The prepared foods are also good here.
Best cheese selection in neighborhood, great descriptions. Meats are very pricey. Products you can find elsewhere are comprable in price.
A very well stocked supermarket. Lots of fresh fish, fruit and vegetables. Contemporary decor and you can find everything very quickly.
They have good stuff but some of the cashiers are not pleasant at all. Thankfully there are other location with more friendly cashiers.
Very nice grocery store with high quality products, but that quality comes with a premium price. Great fresh meat/fish and produce.
Not a fan of the prices or the snooty customers. Not many shopping choices in this area so I'm sometimes forced to shop here.
Very Expensive. I understand the gourmet market concept but NO! These guys are expensive and bad service! I prefer AMAZON!!!
It was really clean and they have some good options, but it's way more expensive than some of the surrounding supermarkets.
Great store and selection, a bit too price for me. But organic vegetables are cheaper than at Park Natural few blocks down.
Way to expensive, but the bread is good. Always run to the veggie mkt across the street. Last visit I bought nothing here.
Unions are great. Ish. This one is no different. Decent selection but not great; think bodega++ . High prices. Well run.
I usually just buy bread here as everything is pricey. They stock specialty items no one else in the neighborhood has.
beautifully displayed produce and lots of interesting items, although a bit pricier than your average grocery store.
Very high quality, and prices that match. This is a huge space and beautifully laid out, with an enormous selection.
Great neighborhood grocer with great produce. It's pricey but that's no different from the entire Cobble Hill area.
Great market, excellent selection of organic products. Though it is a bit small, could get crowded rather quickly.
On the small side, but has an excellent selection. Best place in the neighborhood for cheeses, in particular!
Absolutely the best of everything in every department. Would be a perfect market if it weren't so cramped.
High quality produce, fresh and cured meats, and bakery. Friendly staff, great neighborhood market.
Great food selection and friendly staff. I'm more than a little jealous of folks that live nearby.
Love this market They are one of the best supermarkets on planet earth …
One of my favorite places to shop in Brooklyn. Everything is fresh and they make their own bread!
I love the produce and the gourmet items. Plus, the employees are very friendly and helpful.
On the pricier side, but they have tons of specialty, hard to find produce and other items.
Nice place u can find things and strange things here. Well kept friendly staff. No issues.
Great for gourmet produce and groceries. Definitely on the more expensive side of things.
I love the produce here, the selection of groceries is small but great quality things.
Nice grocery store. Decent selection. Friendly staff. Tends to be overpriced though.
Super clean, wonderful cheese section with a variety of cheeses from around Europe.
Kind of expensive but good produce and brands. My favorite is their deli meats.
Pricey, some cashiers need a refresher on customer service. Great selection.
Great products in beautiful display. The place feels upscale but accessible.
Produce is very fresh, great selection of organic food. Store a bit pricy.
It's better then whole foods.great selection of local breads and thing .
Small but well stocked neighborhood market, good selection, a tad pricey
Nice section of cheeses, prepared food and packaged goods. Super clean
Good selection of different types of groceries with friendly service.
amazing selection of pricey high end food. A gem if you have the $$$.
I only have had their pies very good and you can preorder and pickup
Great supermarket, has some very unusual and interesting produce.
Nice selection of high quality produce, meats and other groceries
Well stocked food store. Great range of produce and good quality
Very expensive, okay food items. The store is fairly small.
A bit overpriced but decent produce.
Great place and lots of food options
Pretty good things to purchase
pricey but love it
