What an amazing time it was. I had never ridden a Segway before and to be honest, was a little nervous about it. The 2 guys who run the show were very personable, funny and made the entire experience better. The day started with some training. We learned how to go forward and backward, how to turn and how to hop on and off the Segway. Besides that we also learned how to make an emergency stop. Thankfully I didn't have to use this skill anytime during the tour. It took no more than 5 minutes for me to feel 100% comfortable on it. During the tour we make a couple of stops, which is a great opportunity to grab some hot chocolate and snaks. They'll suggest good places to grab food since they're locals and know the area well. If you're a history buff, your in for a treat. The tour guide, who goes in front of the group with a mic, knows well the historical places to stop. Again, it was a wonderful experience and we'll be looking for Segway rental places in our area so we can enjoy it again. 100% recommend.

Yesterday, while waking along Fisherman’s Wharf, maybe 50 yards from Ghirardelli Square, I stumbled upon a hidden gem next to a bicycle rental place, Umbrella Alley. This place is a gold-mine of beautiful San Franciscan themed murals, vibrant colors, and endless opportunities to take pictures. Amazingly, umbrella alley is FREE, but a $5.00 donation is suggested to help support their work. Another amazing thing is that no one on their staff is pushy or pressures folks for donations. It’s an act of good faith that I hope folks will do. They also offer jeep and Segway tours. This is definitely a place worth visiting and is good for groups, dates, or a night on the town. Definitely stop by if you’re ever in the area.

Really awesome, Instagrammable spot for photos. It’s more than just umbrellas as the name suggests. There’s amazing murals and art that are beautiful, colorful, and free! (Suggested $5 donations for the local artists.) Phone stands are around to allow to to take pictures, great if you’re by yourself or if no one is around to help take a picture of you. Definitely a great spot to stop by if you’re in the area among the other touristy spots on the wharf.

Insta-worthy location which should be on your list if you’re visiting San Francisco. Awesome and colorful art all over the alley. There are phone stands in front of every art piece to capture yourself with the art without asking anyone to capture. Well thought off designs, just loved them all. Donations are accepted as the entry is free. Ample street parking available nearby, we parked at Joseph Conrad Square street parking and walked down the block.

A content creators dream - the "alley" is more of a half-alley leading into a parking lot of rental vehicles for tourists. But it's so well-done and FREE. It features a few local artists' really colorful artwork. And you have the option of donating directly to the artists if you feel so inclined. If you're in the area, you can take some iconic photos while in the middle of iconic Fisherman's Wharf. It's right next to Buenavista Cafe so you can't miss it. But I wouldn't make the trip just to see it alone since it isn't that big.

  • Jennifer Lange

SUCH A GREAT PLACE! A donation gets you in, and then take all the free photos you want! Bright, colorful, fun murals, and I hear more are coming. I was so impressed and we had so much fun clowning around and posing that we donated MORE! Spent about a half hour here, and murals are outside and in a sheltered garage. My 14 yo and I had a great time.

This is a very colourful and nicely decorated place. They have a lot of different spots to take instagramable photos. It is more than just umbrellas. The have balloons, and various arts on each wall. I believe it is better to go at night because the colors look more radiant. It is free to enter. The also have a Greetings from San Francisco art.

Came upon this place by accident. I was just walking by and happened to see it. I'm so glad I did! It's absolutely gorgeous and so creative. I love the concept and what they are doing here. I'd love to see more things like this in other cities it's great for the community. If your in the area you need to stop by and check it out plus take a few selfie. Also don't forget to tip the artists if you can it's a great way to help places like this keep thriving.

  • Anju Sreekala

Worth visiting if you are interested in Instagram-worthy photos under the balloons. Umbrellas are kept in a dark enclosed space, hence did not enjoy much. One can enjoy only if you enjoy wall paintings and love to share some vibrant pictures in social media, nothing else in there. The number of paintings and the total space are limited.

This place is a must see if you are by Pier 39, and want some photo ops. You can't miss this place. The art murals are amazing. The entrance is a $5 donation for the artists. After you are done here, you walk over to Pier 39 to see the sights and grab something to eat. Don't miss out on seeing this place.

Really cool place to stop right near Ghirardelli. The murals are beautiful and free to play around with and take photos. They even have little phone stands to take put your phone in to take your photo. They ask for donations via Venmo or cash app, but it’s not necessary. Definitely encouraged!

Small space but includes nice touches such as camera phone stands that allow selfies even if there isn't anyone else around to take your picture from 15 feet away so you can capture the entire mural. Pretty much next to the Buena Vista Bar. Don't forget to look up to see the balloons and the namesake umbrellas. Can get crowded but most people are friendly and considerate. Pay it forward!

  • Jennifer Chen

Disappointed, mainly because of the discrepancy between the website saying admission is free with a suggested donation then when you get there, the volunteer tells you there's a required admission fee just to look, not even to take pictures. Which also contradicts the signs at the entrance as well. Either it's one or the other.

Art is amazing, made to take pictures. They have stands that you can put the timer on and take the photos you want. We arrived at opening time and there was some cars blocking some of the art. Definitely worth the trip but I'd wait a little later.

Went here after a friend recommended and couldn't be happier. It's a place open to anyone. It was very welcoming and full of wonderful murals. It also has cellphone stands, so if you are alone you are still welcome here. It's an absolutely must if you are downtown..please keep in mind it is an alley, very very close to guirardeli right by the water..

  • Raelyn Ross

Not so much an alley, more like 20 feet. It was balloons when I went, not a big deal still cute, but they were charging to “enter” to take photos of the murals… Did not enter & took pictures of the balloons from the outside.

I’m sure it’s great, however, this is mainly inside a rented space that you need to pay $5/p to walk through. Honestly not worth it to walk under hanging umbrellas. The one at Heathrow airport is bigger, better, and free.

$5 entry fee, I gave them $20 so I could make a donation. The art is very beautiful and vibrant. Its a quiet little alley/parking garage across from the Hyde St cable car turnaround that has murals and sculptures to see. There is also umbrellas and balloons strung across the alley overhead. Fun little spot to get some good photos. More

This is one of those secret place that is even unknow to many SF locals. This is the place where you get the SF Segway tour. The company cleverly turn the start/end point into something worth visiting with many murals and snapshot-worthy opportunities. So don't miss it.
