We visited early in the morning and there wasn’t anyone else around. The main office has a series of natural history dioramas, educational displays, and then a LOT of tanks with a variety of animals in them: a diamondback terrapin, a skunk, a soft shell turtle, and rooms of turtles and snakes! There were even venemous ones! There’s also a turtle touch tank along with an alligator mount. Outside the main office building, using the map, you can walk around on the many trails that loop around. The goats have a skyway called Hoofin’ it Highway, there’s a baby alligator pond, and some gopher tortoises (that were still in their burrows). A barred owl exhibit and another alligator pond are on the other side of the Happy Hen House. If you walk further away from the main office, there’s a beautiful elevated boardwalk that takes you over some swamp areas and creek to the side with the community garden, shrub maze, and amphitheater. There are some trails that loop around through the woods that are well-maintained and relaxing to hike. Overall, it felt safe and almost under-used! There are so many little gathering areas and so much potential for educational opportunities for families and children. I really enjoyed our visit and will probably be back when I visit Jacksonville again. I would recommend it as a really nice place to visit with your kids if you want some quality time that isn’t overpriced and has a low-key, grassroots vibe. Also, I think that it would be really fun to do a Campout in the Canopy on the boardwalk for families! PS watch out for poison ivy!

Lovely place to spend a couple of hours in "real" Florida right in the Arlington neighborhood of Jacksonville. My 7 year old and I "hiked" most of the six marked trails, pet and fed the goats and chickens (who have great habitats and are very social), and explored the museum twice in a bit more than 3 hours. They unfortunately sustained some damage in Hurricane Irma's high winds and have a number of downed trees in the swamp area and have (as of 2/2018) closed two of the three boardwalks (both the ones leading to open water) due to damage sustained. The amphitheater near the East entrance is super cute and the community garden seems happy and productive. There is also a small hedge labyrinth in this area (off Stable Loop/Purple trail) coming from the West Entrance for the kids to run through. When the weather warms up the Butterfly Garden near the Main Office will reopen. There are many animals throughout the space, living, fossilized, and taxidermied (including a barred owl and gopher tortoise!) and interestingly it has a spring cooled HVAC and solar power for the main building. Overall we enjoyed our time and will certainly be back for the trails and critters. The museum could do with an update and hopefully they will get the needed funding soon. The concept and grounds are wonderful. Family memberships are only $40 per year and you can book the facility and staff for groups and parties including Animal Encounters. This is a great family and nature space close to downtown Jax! It only took me 12 minutes from SPR.

I’ve been coming here for more than 30 years. They have a museum, three trails you can hike. Bring a walking stick. There is a lot of roots coming out of the ground in the trail. I always bring a picnic lunch to enjoy at the picnic tables, then I go on the hike. I also had my youngest son’s birthday party inside the museum one year. It turned out real nice. They now have Billy goats & free range chickens. They will accept donations for the eggs. They prefer to get at least a $2.50 donation for a dozen eggs. I call ahead to see if they can hold for me until I get there. Great eggs! They also have snakes in the museum and large turtles outside. I highly recommend this wonderful hidden gem in Arlington. It used to be free to get in, but you can pay the small fee or join the family yearly plan. They have a Butterfly Festival every year. They have food vendors, crafters, musicians there.

Had an awesome outing with our daughters here on a Tuesday afternoon. We didn't see anyone else and had the place to ourselves which was really nice with a temperamental toddler. My 8 year old learned a ton about the biodiversity of native Florida. Her favorite part was getting to pet the live turtles (extremely well cared for and seemed not only socialized but friendly and happy) and my favorite was petting the (also very social, happy, and healthy) goats. The toddler most enjoyed the maze and gardens along the short paved trail where we were happy to find fully functional restrooms at the amphitheatre. It was a wonderful afternoon and well worth the $15 for an afternoon of fun, education, nature, and family time. Highly recommend you visit this place. I can't believe it took us this long to go but we will definitely be back again!

This is auch a great place to observe Jacksonville nature at it best. The trails are a great walk. I haven't seen one snake, but there are plenty of spiders and other insects to peak interest. There are also goats, chickens, turtles, a couple of alligators, an owl, and these cuties... two pigs. This is also a peaceful place to have a lunch outside at one of the many picnic tables. A few of them need some TLC, but the surrounding trees and plants are a good distraction.

This place was actually super awesome even though we had to go thru the hood on Bert rd to get there. All in all we had a special scavenger hunt for one of my daughters classes and it was quite entertaining. A few trails the staff was super friendly. It didn't cost much and it got us out for a couple hours. We got to see goats pigs chickens butterfly garden and some reptiles fish and turtles educational experience and picnic tables for lunch so check it out

This place is affordable and a good place to spend 1-2 hours. I do recommend visiting. Consists of an indoor area and hiking paths, a goat petting area, turtles, snakes, pigs and chickens. Be sure to get a map. My kids love to walk around and explore. It is not well maintained, the indoors is a bit outdated and things overall could be cleaned up but it is a good place to be able to roam free, learn and interact with animals.

Update August 2021: Have continued coming and it's only gotten better. Went today for the first time and will definitely be back. The grounds are very well maintained. You can pet goats, turtles and even handle snakes with staff. There are several very nice trails to walk and ones that are handicapped and stroller friendly. And for the price you can't beat it. $5 adults and $3 children. Military, student and senior discounts available, also. Will definitely be back. Grateful to have stumbled upon this hidden treasure in our city.

  • Mikayla Frierson

Very cute place to spend an hour or two. It needs some TLC but the indoor area has a great collection of reptiles and some other interesting displays. The animals all seem very happy and well cared for and their enclosures were very clean. Definitely recommend getting a map and taking the time to walk the trails as we saw more wildlife (songbirds, butterflies, and a box turtle) on the trails.

Definitely a hidden jewel in the middle of Jacksonville - tucked away in Arlington on 50+ acres. I would say about half the trails are wheelchair accessible, but tennis shoes are a MUST. Some trails are very rugged and can be slippery. The staff were incredibly friendly. Animals include goats, alligators, tortoises, an owl, plus it's a great opportunity for bird watchers. I was disappointed though that 2 of the 3 boardwalks were closed off and damage. They also have a community garden and free compost!

  • Caitlyn Hardy

My husband and I went here this past Saturday and it was so much fun! The trails were beautiful, a perfect walk for a breezy Florida fall afternoon. The staff member who checked us in was very friendly and gave us information about everything we could do there. I loved seeing the animals in the nature center and especially enjoyed the turtle touch tank. There were even some friendly goats and chickens roaming around outside. I definitely recommend to anyone looking for a short escape in nature.

  • Dr. Kia Pruitt

The nature walk is nice and therapeutic. The scenery is beautiful. Its just that they only have a few goats, turtles and chickens. The chickens sometimes are not out..but in the fenced coup which means that the babies or Grand babies can only feed the 3 or 4 goats. Which there were more animals in this beautiful place labeled as a "petting zoo." The first time my grandbabies were excited. They also desired to see more animals. Still a nice place to walk if you can't get to a park.

  • Momentum Realty

This place was awesome! Highly recommend visiting. It’s got some hiking paths, a goat petting area, you can pet turtles, they have rattlesnakes, and chickens, etc. great place to spend the morning during a hot summer day. Kids LOVED it. They could walk around and explore. Be sure to get a map, we went the long loop which was tougher for young kids but they still loved it. They also have a few gators. Staff was friendly and hard working. Super affordable for a family visit.

  • Rob Simon

The park was great! I'm surprised it's not more widely known about. They have a small museum with some live animals as well. Mostly reptiles. They also have goats, pigs, and alligators outside. You can feed the goats for a small cost. The nature trails are the highlight with around 2 miles of trail. Some of the trails are paved for accessibility.

Loved it. The goats were adorable. The trails were awesome (two types that are wheelchair/stroller friendly). Kids had fun petting the turtles and looking at the snakes, skunk, fish (dory and Nemo). Found a cool rock. The staff was super nice and engaging. $5/adult, $3 age 3-17, $40 annual membership. Oh, and the owl was adorable.

Love this little place. Trails are easy and not too long. Great for kids. They have a little petting area where you can pet the turtles, goats, and pigs. There are tortoises, an owl and alligators you can look at too. Something mes, on busy days, parking is difficult but they usually open the back parking lot when that happens.

Great place! Lots of well-kept and marked trails, both paved and not. My 4 year old loved the animals, the turtle touch tank, and the boardwalk. Also has a great place for picnicking at the amphitheater and benches along each of the trails. The bathroom is a little tight but its clean and there's also a water fountain inside, or you can buy bottled water or Gatorade if you prefer. Bring snacks/lunch and make it a day.

  • Kristavia Dickinson

Nice nature trails and a great experience for families! The staff was welcoming and my kids really enjoyed feeding the goats animal crackers. They had animal and reptile exhibits, free roaming chickens and an amphitheater for events. I would recommend this place for anyone who loves nature!

I've been wanting to visit this place for nearly a decade! Finally got to go. I liked it! Those goats looked super healthy. Chickens were kind of boring. And they were working on some other areas, I hope they aren't down too long. I am considering maybe volunteering here. Such a cool inside the city small park. Bring bug spray! Decent bit of mosquitos. Overall, I recommend and I bought a pass to revisit!

  • Daniel Dombrowski

Lovely Lil nature center where you can host events! (Call ahead to make sure there is space) a nice boardwalk over a creek/wetland. Goats, pigs, chickens, owl, alligators, snakes (venomous and "harmless) turtles fish and frogs. I think it was about 2 miles of trails overall?

It's a nice little place. Not a lot to it and it's a little run down but overall we enjoyed ourselves! My son enjoyed looking at the exhibits inside and the goats outside. We enjoyed the trails there are a lot of trees so plenty of shade. Very affordable admission. We'll come back to walk the trails! I brought my son out here to take pics and hang out for his kindergarten graduation.

  • Anna Dennhardt

Great place to get away from the city and walk in nature. They have lots of turtles, a few goats and hens, and other animals. Cute exhibit building with nicely painted murals and taxidermy. The grounds seemed to be under maintained- "the wild look". Would have been nice if the plants were labeled so that you would know what you are looking at. Overall, nice place especially for kids.

This place is a hidden gem! Really great little natural history museum with live animals, like a mini-zoo. We enjoyed the hiking trails. My only criticism is that the area around the nature center is somewhat overgrown and parts are in disrepair. Also several bridges/look outs are broken to the point of being unusable along the trails. Place needs a little TLC.

This place was a little hidden gym in Arlington. I'm searching some of the best things to do in Jacksonville this popped up and we did enjoy it. You have a chance to buy a season pass for a year pass for $40 or one time for 16 with the kids but I think one time will do your for quite a while.

Older facility, nice for a quick nature education experience. When it is rainy like today, the walkways are slippery. It is an at your own pace type place! My kids loved the goats and turtle touch tank. A few trails we didn't walk because of the rain but lots of flowers and trees and vines.

I really love Tree Hill. They have a beautiful boardwalk. There are goats, chickens, an owl & turtles. There's gardens and just being out in nature is a really good mood booster. Exercise and sunshine is really good for your overall health. It cost $5 a person it's well worth it!

This was a hidden gem in Jacksonville! We're a traveling van family, and we found this place to take our daughter! At only $5/adult and $3/children, it was such an affordable, beautiful learning experience, our daughter had the time of her life, thank you Tree Hill …

Great place for a family day trip. Small selection of animals, but on the flip side it's not a zoo. The trails were not too long nor too short. The main building had numerous exhibits of animals which was air conditioned to keep everyone comfortable. Nice experience.

  • Julie Adams

Great for residents but not the best vacation option in the summer. The outdoors was hot and buggy as any nature area should be in Florida in August. The indoor area luckily kept us busy for over an hour. Great option for the price, especially in cooler months.

  • Jennifer Johnson

Really enjoyed walking the trails with my daughter. She also enjoyed seeing the turtles and seeing the goats. The prices are good as well. I’d like to walk some of the other trails one day without my daughter first to see what they’re like (a few aren’t paved)

  • Carmelah A

It was a lovely day to go walk around because it wasn’t to hot or to cold. But I think because of COVID they didn’t have the turtle to pet or the animals really out. Also there were 2 bridges that led to water that was closed because of branches that fell.

Pretty cool spot! I can't wait to go back again with my family. They don't advertise it but you can buy eggs from there for a donation. Really look forward to visiting again soon.
