I started going to Transmasters in 2009, when my Suburban transmission failed. I have three cars, all of which are high mileage. Sam Muniraj, the owner, has since rebuilt or repaired two other transmissions, two engines, a differential, replaced various suspension parts, and performed several brake jobs. When I was looking for a transmission shop in 2009, I wanted a shop that was capable of doing their own repair work. I did not want to go to Shop X for transmission work, Shop Y for engine work, and Shop Z for everything else. I found Transmasters to be one of the few shops in Miramar area that is capable of doing complete drive train service and most other vehicle services. In working with Sam for almost 10 years now, I have found him to be competent, honest, and competitively priced. I’ve seen some shops routinely charge almost a 200% markup on the retail price of name-brand parts. Sam’s invoices include part numbers and sell prices, and you can see by analyzing the cost of premium parts from parts houses that his markup is reasonable. Since I drive older cars, Sam often notes multiple findings when I take them in for service. Often I can’t afford to do all the repairs at once. At times like this I not only ask Sam what is important to do, but why. I’ve found him to be fair and pragmatic in describing what needs to be done now, and what can be deferred. As an example, I recently brought him a car with an oil pan leak. When he checked out the car, he also found that the oil leak had severely damaged the engine mounts. I was inclined to authorize only engine mount replacement. Sam pointed out that if the oil leak was not repaired, the oil seeping onto new mounts would damage them in a short period of time. And, he noted, much of the effort spent getting to the mounts would be repeated if the oil leak were repaired separately, thus it would make sense to do both together. While I preferred not to spend the money, I concurred with his analysis, and agreed to have both the mounts and the oil leak repaired at the same time, thus saving me money down the road. In all, I appreciate Sam’s work ethic and the competencies of his shop. He's earned my trust, and I am happy to continue bringing my cars to him.

This was the most disappointing experience with an auto shop, in my life. I was told to bring my 2006 Volvo xc90 2.5l FWD for diagnostics and repair. I was hoping to have it done before the Christmas break started. Sam told it would be no problem. They are familiar with that vehicle and transmission. He told me to bring it on up. I bring it in the next morning, Thursday, Dec 16th. I hear back from Sam a day later saying the fluid is low and looks burned. They will need to remove the transmission and do a full inspection. Fine by me. Then the excuses start. The next time I hear from Sam is Monday, Dec 21. He says he was having knee issues and would get on my vehicle. The transmission looked bad after inspection, and the shifter cable is ruined. He said it would need a replacement used one, or rebuild. A difference of $500 for the services. I asked if he recommended the used or just go for the rebuild. He says, the replacement will be fine. He will have it done on Christmas eve. Well, now Christmas eve comes around and Sam calls to tell me the shifter linkage cable didn't arrive. The parts truck broke down, and the vehicle will be done after the holidays, Jan 4th. He calls me on Jan 5th to say the used transmission is mysteriously not working, and he can not find another used one. He says they will fix the transmission it came in with. I get more news that the repairs are done. It just needs to be hooked up to the computer and relearned. Now it's Friday, Jan 8th and he says its not working and he is giving it back to me. So, after almost a month and two tows, I'm in the same spot as before. I don't understand how this has been so frustrating or challenging for a shop that does just this sort of thing, especially on a well known older model vehicle. That was my experience with Transmasters. The manager also acted like he was doing me a favor for not charging me.

Don't trust this business - SAM from Transmasters will not take responsibility for his mistakes. Came in for a radiator change for my Lexus IS350 - charged $860 bucks, not too bad. The problem is he did a shotty job, cut one of the hoses too short, causing the fluid to leak out, making my car overheat. (On top of this, it was later discovered that the new radiator was faulty as well, this was a separate problem from the hose being cut too short causing the fluid to leak out.) I was in another state when this happened, so I had to take it to another mechanic, to have the EXACT same procedure done! I was charged roughly the same price ($860, new radiator install.) The second mechanic I took it to described the first job as "complete incompetence." After contacting SAM from Transmasters he admitted but only agreed to give me only 50% of the money back... What the heck!? This was after he tried to initially give me nothing back, and refer me to his attorney! WOW! This was 100% his fault and 0% anyone else's, but he just didn't want to take responsibility and give me the refund. Ok then. Trying to refer me to his attorney was very bad. It was at this point that I realized this guy was not trustworthy. After all was said and done I only got half the refund and had to pay DOUBLE for a radiator change, due to SAM's shotty work and lack of personal responsibility. So I got screwed for half of the cost of the first radiator change, plus the cost of the second tow! $600! Not worth pursuing legal action over but man... what a headache. DO NOT TRUST. In closing: Highly regrettable experience with Sam at Transmasters. Will not use again, will NOT recommend to a friend.

I first went to TransMasters about 4 years ago with a 1995 Ford Windstar with 137K, totally gone reverse gear. Sam informed me that this transmission model was only used in select Ford models and was known for problems after 100K miles. I had them install the new transmission and drove it until it DIED at 350K (NOT A TRANNY PROBLEM!) During this time I sent a friend with a PT Cruiser that had been into the DEALER 6 time in 4 years for tranmission problem without being fixed. Sam worked with this neighbor since she didn't have alot of money, and fixed her car right the FIRST time! This PT Cruiser has now traveled for San Diego to Boston 2 time without and problems. Recently I picked up a 1998 Windstar that (CLUNKED) from 1st to 2nd. Taking to to TRANSMASTERS Sam said that it needed to be opened up and looked at to figure out what the problem is. Well the presure disc was leaking and stripped out the gears, total rebuild. OK lets do it and 7 day later I got it back running fantastic. Yesterday my check engine light came on and the trans seamed sluggish, took it into Sam this morning. Said the CODE was O2 sensor not transmission, but instead of just leaving it at that and saving WE CAN CHARGE YOU for whatever, HE SAID I WILL HAVE MY TECH TAKE A LOOK AT IT for FREE!!!!!! Come to find out a hose to the EGR was loose, easy fix and the check engine light is off. I don't know what else anyone would look for in a TRANMISSION shop. They have treated me right, and I will send everyone I can there.

We were down on our luck on the Christmas of 2001. We had just had our 3rd child when the car began to act up. My wife and I were both mechanics and the diagnosis initially was the transmission. We had already been talking about Christmas that year and how broke we were. We had a plan to ensure that we would have a nice Christmas dinner and gifts for the children. What we hadn't planned for was the car trouble. We took the car to various transmission shops for a free estimate. All of the estimates were between 1500 to 2500 dollars for repair or removal and replacement of a new tranny. We simply didn't have the money for it. I remember applying to several credit card companies so that we could put the cost on there when the manager from Transmasters on Miramar rd. called me. He asked if I could get the family and come into the shop that day. Deidre and I got the kids dressed and ready to roll and headed to Transmasters. When I arrived they had a contract ready for me to sign. I looked it over and they were basically giving me the new transmission for free. The only thing that he asked was that me and the family take a photo with him and the shop which we gladly obliged. I spoke with the manager and he said, Mr. Smith, it just feels like the right thing to do, do you know what I mean? I said yes sir and we our greatful that there are still people with compassion left in this country like you. Merry Christmas from Mr. Smith!

Reposting my review here from yelp My car got a new life, thanks to Transmasters!! I drive a 11 year old car and I recently had the check engine light and "AT" light come on at the same time. The transmission would not shift after 3rd gear. I took my car to another service station nearby (supposed to be very good with transmissions). They told my transmission needs a rebuild and gave me a quote for $2500. I was contemplating whether to rebuild or buy a new car since it was costing more than the resale value. Meanwhile, I was shopping around for transmission rebuild and that's when I found Transmasters. When I spoke to Sam, he suggested that I drop off the car and let him do the diagnosis first. It turned out that the transmission was fine, the onboard computer is what went bad so it was sending incorrect signal to the transmission. It costed much less to replace the onboard computer and my car is running like new now!! I am completely blown by the honesty and knowledge Transmasters brings to it's customers. Sam also gave recommendations to keep the car running like new and prolong it's life. Highly recommend taking your car to Transmasters for any maintenance needs. They also gave me a 2 year/24000 mile warranty on parts and labor for the work done. Couldn't ask for more!!

I have been bringing my cars to TransMasters for the past 10+ years. Most recently, I brought in my Toyota Minivan for 60K service and Sam explained the work that was going to be done in the car. He went over the details associated with each filter that was being replaced and the need to do it at a specific mileage. As part of the maintenance, his team identified a potential issue with my rear brake and called me to check if I had encountered any sound related issues with the brake. We did experience loud sounds when applying the brake I was happy that Transmasters caught the brake issue and fixed it in a timely manner. The last thing I would have wanted is to encounter a brake failure. In addition to the excellent service, Sam goes over options associated with the work being done. He provides recommendations on short-term fix vs long-term fix and provides you sufficient data to make a call depending on the amount of money you are willing to spend. There is no pressure to get extra work done and the committed work is done in a timely manner. More often than not, my car is always ready ahead of scheduled delivery time. I only have positive things to say about Sam and his crew and look forward to their continued excellent service towards my cars

Wow !! Sam and his team really hooked me up. I'm a former ASE certified mechanic with past transmission experience, however, that was a long time ago (80s-early '00s), . My son and I recently dropped the transmission out of our old 94 Toyota wagon and were all set to rebuild it. I'm glad I didn't. One of Sam's team's greatest assets is experience; they know all of the nuances and trouble areas with contemporary transmissions; especially computer controlled overdrive automatics. Sam's team found two problems that I would have missed; a potentially damaged torque converter (due to clutch material contamination) and a leaking overdrive case shaft seal. These are things that they have seen on many Aisin Warner A541E transmissions in the past. I would have rebuilt the transmission using those same original parts and probably would have had the same transmission issues in short order. Hats off to a job well done Sam!. You have this mechanic's future business. In closing, if your transmission is making noise, slipping, or not staying in gear, get it to Sam and his team ASAP. If you continue to drive it, additional components will fail and add substantial cost to any rebuild.

I took both of my cars (Odyssey and Civic) to this service center. For 2006 Honda Odyssey I got the 80K miles service done, this car was always used very infrequently and also was less maintained. I took it to Transmasters and I am very happy with the service rendered on the car. He inspected the car and came up with the bare minimum stuff to be done for my car which included rear shocks. After the service I took my car for several long drives and it felt like driving new car again. When my car started getting old I needed to find a very reliable service center and I am glad I found this through a friends referral. On my 2011 Honda Civic my rear door automatic locks stopped working. While I was getting the service done, I got my door locks fixed. At first I thought both the locks were bad, but he inspected and told me only one lock is broken and the others he adjusted to get it working. Both the visits were wonderful, I am going to go to this service center for rest of my car needs. One fantastic thing about this center is Sam quickly explains what the issue is through a very quick sketch on a white board in layman terms.

I had a dilemma with my vehicle last week, when I was told that I needed a very expensive repair by a mechanic I didn't know very well. I reached out to Sam for a second opinion, not only was he very knowledgable, professional and courteous, he also has been doing exactly the job I needed for 30 years. It's challenging sometimes to trust, especially when you have two different reports on cost estimates. Sam was very clear and made perfect sense in his explanation of costs, was on time and found some other issues with my car that needed attention, fixed them quickly and for much less than the other mechanic. He showed me the parts that he replaced, explained clearly why they needed to be replaced and I understood, I did not feel deceived or dubious. I had an excellent experience my first time with TransMasters and recommend them, they are diligent, trustworthy, inexpensive and experts. These are the most important things you can be in this business, If I could give 6 stars I would.

From the initial contact with him over the phone to the completion of the repairs… the customer service provided is the best! The service and repair work are high quality and the pricing is very fair! We were introduced to Transmasters years ago with a transmission rebuild and were so incredibly impressed with the high integrity and efficiency of their business. The description and explanation of their findings is so detailed, right down to video footage! We learned that transmission work is not the only service they provide. I recently took my 2000 NISSAN XTERRA SE to Transmasters Miramar for an emission control issue, a leak on the intake manifold/plenum gasket and a bad universal joint Sam, whom I have known for several years now explained to me in detail what the jobs would be required to fix the issues and provided me with the repair cost estimate. After authorizing Sam to proceed with the repair, he was able to fix the issues on my vehicle in a timely manner. SAM IS AWESOME. The whole team did an outstanding job! I broke down while traveling and I worked with Sam via telephone, he went out of his way to help me get my vehicle towed, gave me an extremely fair price, in fact, it was half of what the Honda dealership quoted me. I flew back to San Diego to pick up my vehicle, and the car was ready and waiting. Sam had a staff member check all my fluids knowing I had a long drive. If that is not enough Sam called me to see if I got home safe and if I had any concerns with my vehicle...wow , that is customer service you rarely receive anymore. Thank you Sam and staff for your professionalism, attention to detail and for caring more about service than making huge profits. You can not go wrong with this company, they are 10 plus stars in my book!!!

I've lived in SD for decades and have run the gamut of auto repair (mostly bad experiences). All the great reviews posted for TTAC are spot-on. I had steering and suspension work done on my mini-van, and the results were excellent. Sam's diagnosis of the car was objective and thorough. He provided photos/videos of the inspection, showed me the old parts, and communicated promptly. Prices were fair and competitive. Sam is a calm, pleasant, and knowledgeable person, and you never sense any pressure or hidden agenda. In fact, it's just the opposite – you’ll be eager to have him address/resolve issues with your car that you’ve avoided or didn't know about. It's almost like visiting a trusted family physician. What a relief! I will certainly return here for other types of repair work.

I was referred to Sam from another mechanic who wasn’t able to do the extensive work on my Honda Accord. It needed a ton of work and Sam helped me understand all the options involved in the repair and we both agreed to just swap the engine with a newer one instead of repairing the old one. With used car prices being so high I feel like this was the best option and after driving my car I am very happy with my decision. Sam had great communication the whole time and would update me as new things came up that needed attention and he also explained to me all the warranties envolved so I don’t have to worry for the foreseeable future. I am very happy with the work Sam and the guys at transmasters did for me and I will be using them as my sole mechanic moving forward.

Sam and his mechanics were so helpful in pin pointing the problem that was causing the noise in my escalade! I came from another mechanic shop to Sam's mechanic shop for help and got it! Sam diagnosed the problem and then took pictures and sent them to me to show me what was needed to be replaced and why. He did not encourage anything to fix that other mechanics encourage and He did not break something while fixing it that other mechanics secretly do. This is my go to place for any automotive needs. They are honest, hard working, and do a good job. They are very communicative when they have your vehicle, I got my truck towed to them and they called me when they received it and kept me updated through our two days that they had it. They did a great job of answering my questions and making me feel comfortable about the work they were doing. They always asked before performing any services and told me exactly how much it was going to cost. I would have given them 5 stars but they forgot to put my engine cover back on and I had to go back and get it afterwards. But other than that small thing these guys did a fantastic job and I highly recommend them.

Transmaster Autocare has most experienced staff to diagnose the root cause of the automobile issues and fix them with fairly market price or lower. They do the work in timely manner without compromising the quality of work. The staff are very friendly to receive the customers, they listen the problems of customer's cars very patiently. They do some extra/ additional checkups on customer vehicles and suggest appropriate steps to follow. I have been visiting this place since 10 years, always they have been delivering the best work for my 2 cars on time. I didn't experience any failures of the fixes they made so far. I have an older 2003 Toyota Camry that I plan to drive for a few more years, and I've taken it to Transmasters twice in the past 5 years to replace some aging parts. For the most recent repair, I knew my control arms needed to be replaced (among a few other things). Even after moving to Orange County I went back to Transmasters since I had such a good experience and wanted to go somewhere I can trust to do an honest full vehicle inspection. The owner Sam took the time to go through all my options and costs without any pressure, which was super helpful especially since I have an older vehicle. All my experiences here have been great and I would recommend Transmasters!

Rick has given me great service on some difficult problems (rodents ate wiring loom)(earlier "repair" by another "mechanic" left bolts unsecured on torque converter)(water pump)(short in ignition)(alternator failed). He has been very fair in the hours charged for the non-standard repairs such as the wiring loom, bolts on torque converter and short in ignition. I also use him for routine oil changes. It's the kind of service one would get years ago when there was a neighborhood mechanic you'd been going to for years. He's very knowledgeable and has the latest in electronic diagnostic devices.

I really enjoying coming here to get my car worked on. Sam is always understanding with all my questions and even takes the liberty to explain things if I don't ask so I feel like I'm part of the process. I don't know much about cars but always feel taken care of when here. I never feel there is a sales pitch or pressure to up sell me and that makes me appreciate this shop more than dealerships where I feel taken advantage of. I know I'll get the real answers here as to what my car needs. This place keeps my car running smoothly and safely for a reasonable price.

My name is Michael, I have been going to Transmasters for 5 years. Sam MAKES NEEDED REPAIRS "STRESS FREE!! Like so many others who search for an honest, experienced mechanic, I had Transmasters work on my BMW 5 years ago and WILL NEVER have anyone but Transmasters repair my car again! He always explains the repair needed to the customer, the approximate cost to repair and when the work is completed shows you the damaged parts that were replaced. If you have been looking for an honest, experienced mechanic, look no further! Oh, they also repair transmissions!

The 'Check Engine Light' was on and the dashboard restarted in the middle of driving, causing a temporary lock of speed at ~ 20 mph. After realizing that I would need to spend a lot of time calling and waiting for the responses from the dealer to figure out how to send my car to their place safely, I found TransMasters on Google. Sam responded quickly and communicated in a very professional and friendly way. He helped me with the towing service and kept me updated during inspection and repairing. I got my car repaired within 3 days. They are great!

Awesome! I replaced my Camry 2017 transmission in October last year. Recently, I felt same problem happened such as vibration at low speed. So, I thought this would be transmission problem again. But, after test driving by Sam with computer diagnosis, it was not the transmission problem. It was some sensor(fuel injection to transmission) problem due to carbon residue. It was cleared after several hours and the problem was gone way. It is really nice experience and thanks to Sam and his team. They are real! Thanks.

I have been a customer of Transmasters Transmissions since 2012 and have been completely satisfied with their service. 1) They are familiar with both American (Ford) and imported cars (Mini Cooper, BMW, Mercedes), 2) they are very honest (do not offer to you to repair or replace a part when that part can still work safely, 3) They hold to their promises and get the job done within the planned time frame, 4) their price is very reasonable (I never felt that I am paying too much for any work they have done for me).

I had an issue with my car, and they kindly took a look at it for me, it just so happened to be a week where I was going to be out of town which made me nervous. I ran into an issue and was not able to have the car picked up because I was not in town. They were extremely kind and understanding. I highly highly recommend this shop. Good quality and timely repair. Sam is a very personable and provided a ride home while my vehicle was being repaired. In all fairness though, I did not like sitting there while picking up my vehicle, using my Wet Ones wipes to clean grease from the entire steering wheel before I could drive it. Did'nt care to do the same to the very greasy floor mat at that time, which I did;nt see until the equally greasy paper floor mat on top was removed. I pointed it out but there was no offer to clean it.

Sam is my new guy! I have used other mechanics around Miramar and Black Mountian Rd and Sam has been reliable and honest. He knows how to trouble shoot and will let you know a few possible scenarios why your car has issues. No big surprises when it comes to repair. Work is good and prices are comparable to other shops (I've gotten quotes from other shops for certain repairs and Sam was either around the ball park of a quote from others, or slightly cheaper). Definitely sticking with this guy!

I've been coming here for years and every time I've been satisfied with the repairs. My 2006 BMW 325i has 200,000 miles and it needed a drive shaft that the dealership was going to charge several thousand dollars to replace. Transmaster was about half the price and they did the work quickly and very well. I've been hooked ever since. Sam and his team know what they are doing, enjoy what they are doing, are honest, and are very easy to work with (either by phone or texts).

Sam and TransMasters have been great. We have been going there for 3 years now and he is one of the most honest mechanics I have ever met. For no charge they once sent us back to the dealership when a problem was found that was subject to the extended emissions warrant (the regular warranty had expired). It's never fun having to take a car in for a problem, but it helps a lot when you can trust the guy you bring it to. Update: up to 4 years now and still a great place

Transmasters was the first place to actually spend the time to go over everything in depth and explain why they do the things the way they do… as well as the full consequence if you’re using cheap oil, skipping required maintenance. I couldn't say if pricing is normal but all customers take that chance with car repairs but my intuition about Sam and Transmasters is that they were good at communication and also helped educate me on my vehicle about the repairs.
