Disclaimer: First Timer. First Impressions- Give you the scoop so you won't look so new-time-y I did prior research, noting that I was free during the week and wanted to try a new spot. When I read that karaoke comes on Wednesday nights, I decide to try Star Bar. Firstly, I enjoyed the ease of parking. In a high congested area, I feel less stressed knowing I will have a place to park. The parking lot is on an decline and wraps around the back. There is an entrance near the back. I entered through there but truly, you're supposed to enter at the front on Moreland Ave. I didn't know at the time because there is no signage stating otherwise. Upon entering, it gives the appeal of a grungy dive bar, which is cool with me because I enjoy the old hard rock. There's a bar on the lower level where I believe the regulars go, because the bartender was fully engaged in conversation and didn't acknowledge me. I didn't care because I was more focused on trying to see where the karaoke was and to try and get comfortable. I played one play of Pinball, which they have 4 machines. It's actually a great addition because it cost a quarter and it's loud. There is seating in 'the cut' near the pinball machines. They had a projector with an eccentric movie playing. Also on the bottom level there's a bathroom for all genders to use, I enjoyed that they have even THAT so. It was clean. I approached the bartender and let her know it was my first here. It got kind of awkward because apparently I wasn't supposed to enter through the back door ..She was very chill and told me if I wanted karaoke it's upstairs and I may have to visit the security guard to check for ID. She checked anyway but I guess the upstairs staff needed to know too.. I was fine with that. Going upstairs, they had another bar and seating, more open. No games. The bartenders were very attentive. The karaoke was slowly steady. It wasn't extremely live like another spot I went to during the weekday, but it was enough. I enjoyed a Deep Eddys vodka Grapefruit (don't particularly like grapefruit, wish they had Lemon), and two wells vodka. 20 dollar total. Not bad for the area. No food that I know of. I ate prior. Overall, I would come back with some friends for Karaoke Wednesdays or to play some pinball with a few drinks. I like how I had a few places to hide since it was during the week and not crowded at all. I'm sure it could get crowded on days where they is live music. Thank you for not making it awkward.

"Eh" - my sister, my hubby, and I visited in Oct 2017 (hubby and I down from PA for a week). Lucky us, because it so happened to be the night before an annual Bluegrass festival in the Atlanta area. There were some really GREAT Bluegrass bands on stage, and these boys were gittin'' DOWN!!! with their banjos, fiddles, harmonica, etc. Thank God they were there, or we'd probably have taken a look inside the place and walked back out (it was around 9 pm and the place was pretty dead). I wanted a Heineken beer, but they were out. Ok, how about a Yuengling? Nope - out. Sheesh! I think I settled for a lousy Bud draft. Typical neighborhood bar, it seemed. There were some shady and/or weird characters, it was pretty dark inside, and had that lingering "spilled beer" odor. Smoking permitted. Did I tell you that we made our own fun and that the bands rocked?! Woo hoo!!!

I came here recently with a couple friends, and I was too drunk to get in. I hardly ever drink (for good reason) and was very inconsiderate to the bouncers working that night. I recall very little except that the bouncers were incredibly nice to me and told me to come back when a little more sober. I did not deserve their kindness. Later on a different day, I came to apologize, entered the bar and WOW! It is a super neat place. Pinball, projected movie playing, cool decor all around, etc., and everyone there was extremely kind and welcoming. If you've never been here, this place is really a brilliant little jewel of Atlanta. I hope to come back in the near future when I'm a little less sheepish about how I acted. Thank you Star Community Bar!

Great Parking, Great Open Mic night...UNTIL...the door greeter asked you for I.D. while blowing smoke in your face... You then catch a GREAT WALL of smoke through the "Smokers Patio" in order to get into the open mic night room..Now..the window is open and guess where the out door patio smoke goes.. Yep..into the "Non Smoking" open mic room...When I finally did get a chance to perform ( after the sound guy rudely jumped ahead of my numbered slot ) I was so beat up by the smoke I could hardly breath...My eyes watered, and I smelled like barbecue for a week afterwards. Thanks but NO THANKS... The host was COOL...so I'll give then 3 stars.

If you are alive and well then each and every Monday night you should be at Star Bar in Little Five Points for the longest running live comedy circuit in the A-T-L. That is if your not afraid of a tons of f-bombs, cigarette smoke in your hair and beards. The doors open at 8 p.m. and the bar closes at 3 in the morning. The crowd is lead and comics are introduced by Atlanta native Rotknee—who has been hosting this late night open mic for ten years. I have been twice and left in tears of laughter from performers who have told it like it is about bad boyfriends, microwave pizza, weight issues and sex. P.S. Did I mention it’s FREE?

  • Sid Simpson

Great diversity...great hosting with keeping audience from being too distracting of the performers. Two bars but each hard to get to tonight, as it was seriously packed. Great local AND touring comics on the rise. The place is a smoking venue, with marginal air handling to help, but for us nonsmokers, some may have a challenge to face. Also, you need to get there early, say 8-ish, to get a good seat, and parking space behind the building (accessible from both streets it's cornered on). Across the street is the Vortex club, with a 2-story size white skull with red spiral eyes...hard to miss.

Bars in Atlanta that you can smoke inside are a dying breed, but thank goodness for Star Bar. Not only is there indoor smoking, but the bar is extremely reasonable when it comes to pricing. It's quite possible to get drunk there for $10-$15 total in drinks. I love going to Star Bar on Mondays to catch their weekly stand-up comedy show which has yet to disappoint. While Little 5 Points and Atlanta in general seems to constantly be morphing into something different than how I remembered it 10 years ago, Star Bar remains one of the few constants in Atlanta night life.

  • Ireke-Isaiah Amoji

No. A member of you team did not however it was someone familiar enough that everyone knew exactly who he was. He claimed my phone looked like his but it did not ...security and bartenders after I did the find my phone kept telling me that it's not here and maybe the app is messed up ....and on top of that 4 people had this guy's number. Either way your female bartender over charged me by 5 dollars on beers but I'm a regular so I just said it is what it is shes new but then I told the black guy and he gave me my money back and looked like he knows she's a liar

How could I not give Star Bar five stars? It is an Atlanta icon! Live local music, inexpensive beers and liquor with an eclectic group of patrons. They even have an "Elvis" room filled with memorabilia. The drinks are not expensive and the music is usually a blast. Things you may want to know: always, always bring your ID, there are cover charges sometimes but not always, they do NOT serve food or snacks, some of the live shows are "smoking shows", so please check if you are repelled by smoke. It's a fun spot. I would definitely recommend Star Bar.

  • Trish Rage

If you are looking for the best rock n' roll dive in Atlanta, look no further than Star Community Bar. This place has it all, complete with awesome bands, cool staff, pinball machines, a photo booth, and an Elvis Vault. What is the Elvis Vault, you may ask? It is a vault in the corner (cuz they used to be a bank like a zillion years ago) filled with authentic memorabilia that belonged to The King!!!!! Check this place out! You will not regret it!!!!

Hands down the best dive in L5P or all the ATL for that matter, in my opinion! "Hail!" to the new owners and to bringing the Star Bar back to its former glory! A time before the "dark era" under the ownership of "he who's name shall not be spoken's" tyranny and oppression. Covid 19 ain't got nothin' on this dude and his vile attempt to drive this fine establishment into the ground. I say "let the good times roll" and let's put the "community" back into The Star Community Bar!

  • Bummy Honey

Dont know how i feel about the monkey bent over spreading his cheeks on the door but maybe I'm over analyzing. Don't go in there asking for more than 2 shots. Lmao Jackson gonna try to play daddy and question why you want shots. Where are you taking them. And just toy with you until the bar closes. If you're not begging for it, you won't get ya shots. Good luck. Do not recommend for visits after 1am.

So I go to this place from time to time and the last time I went. The bar maid purposely over charged me for a a beer and never apologized. Then the security and and bar staff along with some guy dressed like Andy Warhol stole my phone and cloned it then pretended it was an accident. Yet when I did the "find my phone" thing and it showed it was in the bar he kept turning off the tone. So all in all very dishonest trifling people.

  • Cienna Lindsay

We went here for Monday night comedy- hilarious! We were on spring break and I was so relieved to find something to do on a Monday night. There is very limited seating, so either get there super early or wear really comfy shoes, it tends to get crowded by 11 just like any other bar. They have a draft list but no drink specials when we went. Really great atmosphere and totally recommend others to go, no cover charge either :)

  • joseph watts

A true staple of atlanta. Have you ever wanted a bar that makes you feel like your norm from cheers all while still not having to feel like your old enough to remember norm from cheers? Than this is the place to be. From great music and events to a staff that treats everyone like family to a crowd that truly defines the melting pot that is atlanta. Best bar in atlanta and quite possibly the best bar in the world.

  • Ryan Ward

This place was awesome. They apparently have a comedy show every Monday night, and the lineup last week was stacked with extremely talented, hilarious comedians. The fact that it was free made it even better. Whiskey Diets only being $5 apiece was also rad. If I'm in Atlanta for another Monday night, I'm headed to Star Bar without a doubt.

  • Kim Naomi

Myself n a few buddies went to check this place out. We enjoyed the basement bar and back porch for an enchanting cig. We got beers for five bucks and heard some pretty cool bands play upstairs. The bartenders were actually really cool and hooked me up with a pbr hat!!!!! I will definitely go back mostly for the music and friendly people.

  • Jasmine Draconis

Star bar is an interesting beast. this is local iconic night spot in little five points. its a dimly lit bar in what once upon a long while ago was a bank.. the vault upstairs has been turned into a shrine of elvis memorabilia!! and the main floor has two bars and a stage that hosts live music and comedy shows nightly.! Check it out!

  • Michelle Naue

Absolutely amazing place. Small little hole in the wall, with a smoke room downstairs. They have shows quite often, and because of how small the main room is, it's very intimate which is one thing I absolutely love about it. The bar staff is very nice! Definitely will be coming here again soon.

  • Callie Towe

Music was distorted from being too loud in a small venue. People who wear contacts beware this place is a nightmare with the smoke messing with your lenses. You wreak like old cigar and cigarette smoke from practically the moment you walk in, if you're into that then this is the place for you .

  • Isadora McLain

It's an overall excellent bar but my favorite part is absolutely the staff. Both the bouncers and bartenders are amazing at their jobs, plus they're all quite friendly. It's great having a place where I can feel safe and enjoy a nice drink.

Walked in and the DJ had it so pumped up, all We could do was order some drinks and head STRAIGHT to the Dance Floor! I can't remember the last time We had that much fun in a dance club! I felt like I was 21 years old that night. Definitely a place to visit regularly.

  • Buster Shadwick

Star bar is exactly what it tries to be, a small smokey neighborhood bar with tons of quality live entertainment. So yeah, as long as you're not an asthmatic or smoke sensitive, you will have a good time, especially with there pricing. No food though, eat before hand.

  • Rik Briscoe

"The Best Dive in Little Five" It's all that and more!!! Free comedy on Mondays make it a must visit destination. The Elvis shrine is just great! Reminds me of visiting Graceland. Be kind, courteous, respect the rules and staff, and you'll have a great time!!!!

  • Rick Farris

One of the places on my short list of places in Atlanta you have to visit at least once. This place really defies description. Go on a Monday night to see stand up comedy, or go any given night for a show. Make your own show, if you dare. Fun place, for sure.

  • tenpenny blackart

Beau??!!!..cephus? This dog'll hunt and the people seems nice and all. I seen some good music and had some cold drinks. Only bad thing is that a lady I met there gave me the gonerhea good thing is that I married her so ain't gotta worry bout gonerhea no more.

  • Indigo C. (Indigo)

Was there to see a 3 band concert headlined by the Tomb Tones. Show started a little late but they all made up for it with enthusiasm. My sole complaint is that the bar is not ADA compliant and consequently my wheelchair was damaged on the way out.

  • Kevin Meenan

Some of the best dance tunes I've heard in a long time! Locals, wasted college students, older people, younger people, everyone was mixing it up on the dancefloor. One of the few places I found in Atlanta that opens up rather than closes at 9pm.

  • Zach Paulus

This is a fun, little dive bar with great sound for live shows. It was wonderful, as a wheelchair user, not to have anyone or anything obstructing my view of the concert. Always a plus not to have to stare at butts during an entire show!

A Little 5 Points institution. Great music and great bartenders. This is exactly what it says it is, a community bar. And when you go here, you will feel like you're part of the community too

great little place now that all the great Rock Clubs in Atlanta either bit the dust or are located in scary gentrified neighborhoods surrounded by faceless condos & office building. somehow miraculously L5P has not lost it's Soul.

  • Jack Babalon

Not your ordinary dive-bar. A must see for any visitor in Little Five Points. Grab a drink. See a great local band or comedian and get yourself a story to tell for the rest of your life.

We loved it here! My entire family enjoyed themselves. This was a large group of family/friends of 15 plus. They had live music and were able to accommodate our group too. The food options were a hit with the group too!

  • Denis V

I watched two local bands Play both really good Last parade and Stoplight Roses had a great evening meeting locals at the bar very friendly and highly recommend I ended up talking with both bands , enjoyed the evening.

  • Barbara J

Great dive! Super nice people, reasonable prices, long pours, great music. Live bands some nights. Little vinyl lounge downstairs is a little more laid back and has a slightly different vibe. Definitely check it out.

Went on a Saturday and it was rock night with a lot of older bikers and such. I used to come here awhile ago. I'm not sure what happened, but this place has a completely different vibe, music, & crowd.

  • Kristen King

My favorite Tuesday comedy open mic. Cold, cold beer, properly made cocktails and perfect shots make the whole experience very comfortable. The staff is great and it's just an all 'round cozy joint.

  • karrie Weddle (Sylestia)

Update: They are finally getting the schedules filled and lots of great things going on as usual. Comedy on Monday nights, weekly dance parties and Karaoke, and lots of local and visiting bands.

  • Bunny Aug

Smat bar with cash only entry fee, so make sure you get cash before coming. No higher end drinks, but if you're fine with pbr and well liquor, you'll be good. Staff was very friendly and kind.

  • Kahle Davis

This place is AWESOME. Cheap, strong drinks, consistently great bands, and a FREE comedy night that blows all other comedy events out of the water, and to top it off a shrine to Elvis...

  • Ann Carney

Interesting bar. I went on drag night with my son and daughter in law. Everyone was so friendly and nice. I felt safe which is important when visiting a bar. Even if your son is 6'7".

  • Dave Aynes

Open mic comedy is fantastic. I don't mind a dive bar but the smoke is intolerable. Why make the place offensive to 90% of the public to please a small minority of hardcore smokers?

  • MRB

My friends and I had a great night on Tuesday with the fun DJ playing lots of retro hits. Mixed crowd, young and old, no judgements just drinking and dancing and having a blast.

  • Reverend Andy

My home away from home. I've spent more hours here than some of the employees. I even had my wedding reception here. Go see a band, I promise it's not that damn scary a place.

I have been going the star bar since I shouldn't have been going to the star bar. An Atlanta institution that is near to my heart.

Long-standing, divey neighborhood bar and music venue, with an upscale bar hidden downstairs, around the back. Live music most nights, comedy and karaoke.

Went to see a friend play here. This is very much a dive bar if you're into those sorts of things. Good bands, cheap drinks, and good conversations.

  • MJ Ellis

The Star Bar is one of the best dive bars in the city, a cornerstone of Little Five Points & it's part of Atlanta's history & music scene. Love it.

  • Maria del Mar Gomez

On of my faves for a Saturday night! Such unique atmosphere and people where everyone is there to just enjoy music and have a nice time. Love it!

  • Michael Warner

Solid place for rock music. Small venue with great sound. An Atlanta icon dive bar classic. The last what makes Atlanta a great place to live.

  • Gabriel Greco

Go out and support the bar as well as the bands that come through here. You'll be surprised how badass a show out of your normalcy can be.

  • Jason Kennedy

Great atmosphere, cheap drinks, dingy in the beat of ways. Comedy every Monday night is my favorite. Free show, I just pay for my drinks.

  • david hendrickson

Mr. Cat was a superlative host and bartender. He was attentive without being overbearing and was very receptive to consensual affection.

  • Michael Smitherman

Save the Star Bar, it’s definitely worth saving. From the shine to Elvis, to music and entertainment with variety and depth. Historic

  • Brandi Moore

My husband and I love this place so much we even got married there! We were devastated to learn it will be closing. Say it ain't so!!

  • Tony Bullard

  • Jasmine Poss

Great little bar in little 5 points! Open Mic nights on Monday night's. What a great way to get rid of the Monday grumps!

  • Vicky Ruth, PMP

So I pay an absurd cover to come watch performers play two hours late and I’m forced to overpay for drinks? Garbage bar.

  • Russ Lam (ISD_400)

This dive gets some decent bands sometimes. Not sure if they're still doing comedy night on Monday but that was great.
