Took my family on a weeknight and there was no waitstaff but was charged a gratuity of 20% and the food had to be ordered at the bar. At first, my order was $148, then I saw the owner tell the guy at the bar to add the gratuity. My tab then became $170. No alcohol was served. Three salads, two burgers and appetizer like food. Once the food was brought out, there was no checking in to see if we needed anything else. Mind you...we all had sprite and one diet drink. We had to go back to the bar to get refills and a to go box! Staff was not friendly and the owner approached every table but ours! No service was given to us! The amount of money we paid should have at least gotten us consistent service. I don't mind paying a gratuity when the service is deserving. This place is not family friendly at all. It's a bar that shouldn't offer family seating if it can't accommodate the service behind it! I would not recommend The Public House to a family or group of individuals who want to experience decent service. The food was good but the overall service was horrible. The owner should be ashamed of being so greedy when he doesn't even try to give a complete service routine! You don't charge a gratuity for service you can't or don't provide! Never again!

My wife and I had to Parmesan platter and salmon and it was delicious. The service was incredible, fast, efficient and on point. If you’re looking for good food that is prepared excellently this is the place to go to. It’s a limited menu, but let me tell you everything was delicious. Definitely recommending this to my friends and family as a go to for great food, great service, and I will say the owner of the restaurant was very engaged and making sure that everything was done with perfection. Definitely going back to try the other items on the menu. If you like beer, and looking to variety, and tap beer, that is fresh and at the perfect temperature, this is your go to place. Give this restaurant a try. He will not be disappointed.

Always have a great time here. I've recommended it to all of my co-workers who are with me in Charlotte or are headed there and staying in the area. Russ, one of the owners, is a fantastic guy. Their kitchen is open until 2am and although it's a short menu I've never been disappointed by anything I've had there and I've tried a lot! The wonton nachos and the Mac and cheese are top notch and I've had them both multiple times. Their beer selection is excellent and the service has always been great, even on a Friday or Saturday when they are packed. Can't wait to go again and get pictures to add to my glowing review! Also, if you're air crew be sure to tell Russ!

I attended the the Panthers game with my family yesterday as we were walking back to the hotel we decided to give this place a shot. They wanted to sit outside..ok cool Oh you have to order at the bar because there is not any wait staff...what? Food is delivered by a runner who then pulls a disappearing act.. The menu is at best decent with some strange listings The family ordered...food came Appetizer sized portions.. I cook for a living so I look at plates a little differently.. Not impressed with what came out.. I ordered the cabbage rolls and they were horrible..chewy, stringy and lacking flavor of any kind.. They looked good but that is where the story ends.. I wanted to send them back but my brother said just forget it and don't worry about it. Let's not ruin the day.. Here's a pic of the rolls and I have the other pic of what I refused to swallow if need be. Never again...

This is a great place. First I’ll Share the major bad thing: We walked in and the hostess sat us right away and gave us menus. We sat there for 40min waiting for our order to be taken. Nothing ever happened. You have to order at the bar. Which is fine, but the hostess needs to mention that, and she never did. I only found out from reading reviews here while we waited and waited. Now, once we figured that out though, the bar staff was amazingly friendly, the food was amazing, as were the drinks. Overall the vibe, food, and staff were fantastic. In fact when I paid the bill they mixed us up with someone else. I didn’t even notice. And as we walked out a staff member chased us down to correct it. So amazing place!! But the host should educate people in how to place your order. If not that, I’d give five stars. Now that we know how it works, we would certainly return again!

After a long day of travel to Charlotte, we wanted something easy (and close) for dinner. This was the closest thing still open (seems Charlotte closes rather early than what we are used to!) The place was packed, great vibe but definitely loud. Not necessarily a bad thing, just not what we were expecting. You need to order from the bar (wished we had been told that piece before sitting for 20+ minutes) BUT once we ordered -- service was great and we loved how friendly the service was. The food was very pub like with a few gems and we all enjoyed our dishes. The vegan option on focaccia bread was amazing - not at all what I was expecting it was so much better. A great spot if you're good with loud (people not so much the music), play darts and love to drink beer. And as I mentioned --. Great vibe overall. Oh! And forgot the pic but the fries are great!

We came here after an event at the convention center, hoping for a good experience. Starting with their Shrimp Toast gave us a good indication the rest of the evening wouldn’t go so well. The shrimp toast was drenched in oil and tasteless. I had also ordered a chicken parm sandwich, but when I asked the bartender if it could have it to go instead of at the restaurant, she didn’t even acknowledge me as she typed away on the POS system. When I walked over to her to ask if she did change the order to go, she acted like I should have already known / despite her not communicating with me at all. Event asking for a refund and to close out our tab was painful. I’d avoid this spot at all costs - there are many more pleasant places to visit in Charlotte with much more personality.

Was just here tonight, our waitress brought the wrong items twice then got mad that happened and never showed back up at our table again. Worst service I have ever experienced in my life. I had to go up to the bar to ask for my bill, they said she was overwhelmed in the back. Then we waited 40 minutes after the wrong food was brought before having to go ask for the bill as she never came back. Not worth going here in my opinion but I will also say after reading other bad reviews and seeing how the owner responds to customers who had a bad experience shows the kind of place it is. It’s really sad an owner would talk to customers like that on public reviews, usually they are respectful and apologize, or somehow try to make it right

Ordered chicken tenders. Did not say in the menu "chef's receipe" and double cooked. Very spicey!! Same for chicken parm. They would not exchange it for another entree. Even manager said it is the chef's recipe could not exchange meal. Next time give the customer the "heads up". Also you have to look at menu, go to bar to order, wait for them to serve you. Need to call Jonathan Taffer at bar rescue to teach them customer service and proper cooking of food. Only get 1 star for service, but that is being kind. Get one star for food as our mates had decent hamburger and chicken sandwich.

I’m not a review leaving kind of person (bad or good) but this place I had to. I would list this place at the top of all time. Great, Great food with spot on flavor and technique. Portions were about perfect and price very reasonable. Draft selection was good and looking forward to tying a cocktail next time. Atmosphere was crisp, clean, and comfortably casual with a few fun games to play at no additional charges. Staff was attentive, kind, and actually seamed to care about your experience. We were in town for a weekend during a kids sporting event, if I lived near the area I would make this place a regular rotation. Highly recommend!

Went to this place as we were stopping the night n Charlotte and it was close to the hotel. They have no servers and you have to order your food at he bar. If you want your drinks refilled you have to go get them yourself. The food was mediocre at best. When you close out your tab they point of sale device asks you if you want to leave a tip................for what? If you want a restaurant that makes you do all the work this is it. A lot of people at the bar and I guess that's the only way you get served.

First time coming here and it’s a Friday after work so you’d think that they’d schedule enough people for the rush. Service is 2 stars just because the waitress was over loaded and only came to our table when we called to her. Only took our drink order once and didn’t come back when they were empty. The food was pretty standard but not worth the price in my opinion. Good location and concept but poor execution. The plus side is the beer is a reasonable price. Would not come back for food but maybe for a drink.

I was very happy to stumble upon The Public House. It is a perfect, after-work drinks and food kind of place that's great for happy hours and gatherings. Great beer selection, food is delicious and there is something for everyone. The only issue is that when they get busy, service is very slow because you have to order at the bar, and the bartenders are already busy making drinks. If they just implemented a order and pay on your phone system such as Toast, like most restaurants of this format are already using, that wouldn't be an issue. That aside, still a regular here.

  • J D

This is an amazing bar and restaurant for anyone attending a convention, visiting downtown, or needing a late night nite to eat. 48 beers on tap you can't go wrong. We had great drinks, amazing food, and super friendly service. Gone are the days owners come around and genuinely care how you're doing, thank you for coming in, and making you feel welcome. Keep up the GREAT work!

What a fantastic little place, even though it was very busy we we're seated right away and we ordered our food right away. Our food came out quickly and all three dishes were fantastic, the nachos the steak and fries and the mac and cheese with added bacon and bleu cheese. We met the owner, Russ on the way out and he was a super nice guy. If you are aircrew in particular I highly recommend this place as the owners are former aircrew and they treat us very well. But you don't have to be an air crewman to come to this Little gem in Charlotte.

Bottom Line: Be ready to SPEND! Condiments aren't free at this restaurant. After seeing the bill, was honestly surprised they didn't charge for the bathroom too. Their burger was amazing; however, my wife's "grilled chicken" sandwich was one of the least appetizing things I've tried. Avoid the wonton nachos as well - way too salty. Service was average, at best. The bartenders were grumpy all evening.

I had a delicious burger here, and a great creme brulee too. Only thing was, the crime brulee wasn't set completely, so it was like soup. Still yummy though. Keep in mind that you have to have an ID to come inside the restaurant, even if you aren't going to drink. Kids are welcome though!

Don’t order the food. Worst I’ve had on this planet in my 52 years and the Manager didn’t care one bit. I had to spit out my first bite it was so bad. Kids ordered the nachos and those were also terrible. Asked for the manager to have a conversation and he ignored us until I approached him. Horrible customer service. Manager named Rick, wouldn’t listen at all. Enter at your own risk. Might be an ok dive bar but nothing more.

This place is the absolute bomb. They have one of the best, if not the best, burgers in Charlotte. Pickled onion and house ketchup separate it from the rest. If you’re feeling really funky they have a PBJ burger also. Chris and Russ run the place and I mean I guess they’re alright for a couple of guys that prefer N/A beers but hey to each their own. Beer list is huge and rotates frequently with tons of local options. In my top 5 spots in town, check them out!

When I ordered a burger I assumed that it came with fries. Every burger I had seen taken out of the kitchen had them. When my burger came out it had no fries only 5 “complimentary” chips. When I asked about it my waitress told me to go to the bar to order fries if I wanted them. Overall poor service and honestly disappointing from such a cool looking place

I really enjoyed the beer selection. Most bartenders (out of 4) was friendly but only 1 knew what he was talking a bout... Although I had to get his attention, with no one surrounding me. The only issue I have is lack of signs for non smoking. I also saw plenty of others smoking while I ordered my beer. I felt the only reason it was brought up was cause bussers wanted to get the patio set for close

Came for lunch before a Panthers game and it was so good we came back for dinner after the game. Best chicken parm sandwich we've ever had. Wonton nachos, burger, soups & fries all fantastic. Bonus star for house made ketchup which we could eat with a spoon. Great beer selection but if light beer is your thing they have that too. Shuffleboard table and other games made this a fun experience. Can't wait to come back again.

Bar tender was rude. When I asked about a charge on my check that I didn’t understand, her response was “I will take 2 years out of my life to figure this out”. Not sure what her problem was when all I was seeking was clarification. There was also a gratuity of 20% automatically added to my check. Not sure if I would come here again.

Dropped in for a drink and dinner last Thursday evening. Food was good (soup starter, steak & frites main) …but my bartender pulled some shady deal with the payments; didn’t put itemized bill down (watched him pitch in garbage), just gave credit card slip for signature and tip. I get notification from bank while I’m still sitting there that I was overcharged …so I crossed out the tip on CC slip!

My group of 3 stumbled upon Public House after a concert we flew in the city for and we are very happy that we did. Service was friendly and excellent. Food is delicious and was ready fast. Very fun and creative cocktail selection at AMAZING cost! in Chicago those cocktails would run possible double the price. We ended up going back the next day of our visit. make sure to try the wonton nachos!

I’m in love with this spot. I work in the restaurant industry and it’s impossible to find a place with decent food and drinks that stays open and serves until 2 am. Everytime I come in, Russ makes me feel at home. Always makes us great drinks, and we absolutely love the food. I am so excited about this place! I’ve been like 5 times in two weeks. Russ the owner is truly amazing!

I had a phenomenal time at this place. Staff, and even other guests, were all so friendly and welcoming. 48 beers on tap is insane and they’re good picks. The liquor selection and cocktail menu are also top notch. Had the wonton nachos and the chicken thighs. Both delicious. One hundred percent will be a staple stop in Charlotte for me. Thank you for the awesome time, Chris!

And after my girl wanted her egg fried harder bc it was still yoke in the inside the Manger got really rude and loud and told us to just buy another egg was spent 100 dollars was everything was nasty

The beer selection is great and I’d come back for it. The bartenders are knowledgeable. Bartenders won’t serve customers water when seated at the bar. It’s self serve only from a jug at the end of the bar. Absolutely a turn off and service is lacking for the price point of their bar food. I’d skip eating here next time and go elsewhere.

Great cocktails in uptown Charlotte. Russ, one of the owners, is more of a mixologist than a bartender. He asked me to list three things - flavor, alcohol type, and location. My answer - grapefruit, bourbon and Paris. The result was one of the best cocktails I've ever had. I also had an exceptional old fashion. Well done, Russ.

Downtown pub with late night hours when most of the breweries are closed. Still offers food late too - excellent smash patty burgers at midnight? Yes please. Great selection of beer as well.

Outstanding rotating tap list and the patio as on point. If you're going to a game this is the place to start. If you're looking to get out of uptown without leaving uptown, this is it.

Great food for the price! Excellent liquor selection and the staff is awesome. Ate there 3 nights in a row! Will definitely be back

Amazing, everything was fresh and delicious. Had the Spicy Chicken Bao, all the favors and textures made this meal amazing. If you're ever in the area, stop here and grab a bite!

Food was super tasty! Drinks were great too. Also, I'm not a ketchup guy, but this is the best ketchup I've prob ever had, if reg ketchup tasted this good, I'd be a ketchup guy!

Try the PB&J burger - sounded so weird I had to try it. A great combination of sweet, savoury and spicy you can’t go wrong.

This place is awesome! Owner is great and he’s telling jokes and making sure everyone is having a good time. They even put the race on tv for us. Delicious food and drinks too.

Absolutely fantastic service and the best Vegan Burger I've had in a long time! Plus Russ was so kind to us. We really love this day-to-day light style American premium Lager.

Best steak I’ve had in Charlotte. Beats Steak 48 and Oak Steakhouse by miles - and for a fraction of the cost.
