I very rarely feel compelled to write a bad review of a business, but my terrible experience with Press was so egregious that I think it needs to be shared. I called the Press location in Eastern Market last Thursday to ask if they could make a relatively simple (sewing snaps down the front of a loose-fitting dress) alteration on a tight deadline. I needed the dress for a performance the following Friday. I was assured that they could do it and do it by the following Monday. "How perfect!" I thought. Except not perfect, not perfect at all. I brought the garment in immediately and the nice lady at the counter again confirmed that the work could be done and done on time. In fairness, she did mention that they contract out their alteration services and that she would have to make sure the work could be done with her manager the next day. I reiterated the need for the alterations to be done quickly and she once again told me that it absolutely should not be a problem. Fast forward to Sunday mid-afternoon, I get a call from Press informing me that the work can not be done. No explanation, no apology. At this point they had kept my garment for over three days without working on it or even finding out if the work they promised me could be done. I called back and was sent to voicemail where I left a message asking them to call me back so I could arrange a time to pick it up and speak to a manager. I guess it shouldn't be surprising that no one returned my call. Finally, I went to the store where the same girl that had promised me the work could be completed handed over my dress again without apology or acknowledgement of the situation they had left me in. She didn't even greet me when I came through the door. This is hands-down the worst service I have ever experienced in the DC area. I am a local performer who often needs minor alterations or cleaning done. I was hoping to make Press one of my go-to spots since it is a neighborhood business. Not only will I not be back, I will do everything in my power to warn others away from them, including my vast network of performers with similar needs. For shame, Press, for shame.

DO NOT TRUST THIS COMPANY WITH ANYTHING YOU CARE ABOUT!! Late July - Dropped off expensive drapes for cleaning after calling to make certain they could accomplish the task. I was told the cleaning would take two weeks. Mid-August - I stopped by, and the drapes were not done. End of August - finally done, but I got them home and noticed brown spots and long brown scratches, in additional to extreme wrinkles (I took pictures to be compared to a video I have from pre-drop off showing they were NOT present when I dropped them off) I spoke to the manager - who said she would try to fix it, and the drapes should be done in the beginning of October. I went back the second week of October after work travel - still not done, and no phone call about the status. I tried to call over the last month - they won't answer my phone calls at the shop, and the manager won't answer or return my calls/requests to find a resolution. An employee finally called to say that the drapes are ready, but the stains are still there and are likely from sun damage (not true, and I have video evidence). It is entirely unacceptable to ignore a loyal customer of three years, but looking at other reviews, this seems to be standard protocol.

This company does valet dry cleaning for a property I work at, because they give a 50% discount to office employees and pick up/drop off I decided to start using them. Everything was great until two of my items were damaged. It took me a month to actually speak with the owner after my clothes were damaged. I was asked to send my damaged clothes in so the staff could inspect them. After speaking with the owner she promised me a credit for my clothing. The credit never came and on top of that when they returned my damaged clothes they charged me for another cleaning. This entire process has been going on for almost 4 months, I still haven’t received my refund for the re-cleaning of the damaged clothes nor have I received a credit for my clothes that were damaged and I’m no longer able to wear. The owner gave me her cell phone number, however she has stopped responding to my messages and answering my calls. I love supporting small businesses, however this customer service is unacceptable. I shouldn’t have to be at the Ritz Carlton to receive Ritz Carlton service.

It says very clearly on their website that they offer tailoring services, but they don't. I stopped by the Adams Morgan location with 2 pairs of pants I needed tailored and the rep told me that I could only do that by appointment at the Capitol Hill location. So I emailed them to make an appointment at the Capitol Hill location and they said I could stop by any time that weekend. Two trains and one hour later, I arrive there only to find out that the tailor doesn't work on weekends like they told me. I've been emailing back and forth with them as they tried to explain that they do have staff available on weekends for fitting. There wasn't another soul in either one of the locations I visited. What, are they on call or something? It's unacceptable for them to mislead customers on their website with a service that they clearly do not offer. Thank you for absolutely nothing and for completely wasting my time.

Awful. I spent a lot of money at this business. They lost part of an order, which isn't necessarily the reason I decided to rate and review The Press. I decided to do so because after contacting them for over a month about the issue, I was told on three different occasions that someone would contact me about my missing order. However, no one ever contacted me even though I was polite to the person with whom I spoke with on the phone each time. I felt as if they were just trying to get rid of me, which I believe is very shady. I was never offered anything for their mistake. Tip for management: resolve issues quickly even if it is to call the customer to tell them that you've lost their order or that you’re still investigating the problem. Since all of this, I have gone elsewhere, and I’m a lot happier with my new service.

Terrible Service from this company. Just moved to DC from Hawaii and dropped my items off on Tuesday. I was told that I can come anytime on Saturday to pick up. Needed my suits for a professional photo for Monday. When I arrived on Saturday; I was told that they are not ready and would take a few days! This was unacceptable! The ownership of this company disregards the importance of being punctual and the “contract” of getting clothes back on time. This message is directly for anyone thinking of doing business with them…DO NOT USE THEM! Jay and Diane are the owners and they never had the decency to return my calls or reach out to make the situation right. Completely unprofessional considering the amount of money they ask customers to pay. Simply disappointed! Go to another dry cleaner!

First impressions, matter, right? The Press offers a new customer discount, but failed to provide it to my wife as she picked up our clothes there - despite her specifically mentioning it. In fact, they assured her it was already accounted for. It wasn't. I went in to pickup our second order and explain the situation; and they tried to give me the discount on our second order - which was half the amount (and, thus, half of the discount). We spent ten minutes and the clerk took three other customers as she tried to figure out how to rectify it - and at the end, we still didn't reach the right amount. Clothes were clean and pressed; but just a avoidable, boneheaded customer service first impression.

This is the last time I will be coming to The Press's I mean I don't mind the price Back on to match the service however now twice they've lost incredibly expensive pieces of suits and responded with a you didn't drop it off. $70 to have them lose a $500 Versace jacket last time I paid $85 to have them lose the pants to my favorite English laundry suit. I will never come back here especially because when I said I drop this off I even pulled it out of the bag before I gave it to you in the response is no you didn't And nothing else no refund no nothing. You can get abused just as well at a far cheaper dry cleaner.

I have been using them for almost two years and at the beginning they were good. Started having issues of items missing but nobody seemed to care, about two months ago they sent my 17 items to the wrong customer. Luckily, he was honest and contacted me directly and returned them. When I brought it up to the people at the dry cleaners they did not care at all. Last order they stole or lost four items. Very expensive bespoke jacket and brand name shirts. I have been calling but no answer. Will stop by and talk to them but based on my previous experience I doubt they will care. I will NOT use this place anymore.

This cleaner ruined my wife's beautiful winter coat. The coat is wool with obvious and distinct leather patches. Had The Press informed me they couldn't handle part-leather items I would have gladly sought another cleaner. Instead, they took the coat and when it was returned, the leather patches were bleached and wrinkled. Plus, the wool portion of the coat still had stains. The owner of the store denied damaging the coat and claimed the leather must have been damaged before I dropped it off. (A shouting match ensued.) He comped my bill but refused to provide any further recompense.

Dropped in some comforters and winter coats during our home cleaning and came back clean and nicely packaged. Great turn around time and on time during the pandemic. Was the only dry cleaner I found open and offering free home delivery. I actually dropped everything off at their store and they offered to deliver it back to my house for free. Really convenient and they offered free masks for me and my family. The store also had the employees wearing masks and had a shield at the counter with hand sanitizer for me to use. Will definitely use their services again.

Below mediocre dry cleaning. They lost some of my clothes, and then spent 5 months "investigating" without doing anything. When they finally issued a credit, they didn't record it, so no one knew I had it. My clothes always come back with hair all over them . . . and blonde hair . . . I have black hair. And stains are never removed. The staff are clueless, albeit friendly. There are a few places literally across Pennsylvania Ave. from this place . . . go to those instead.

  • Walter Tersch

Been here a few times and had only friendly, prompt, and reliable dry cleaning and sewing service. They were able to repair a bike cargo bag for me, dry clean suits and delicate South Asian clothing, etc. My clothes have always been ready at or before the promised time. I'll keep going back. Keep in mind when reading reviews that satisfied customers rarely take the time to review cleaning businesses.

  • taunja pegues

After 2 years of excellent service I will never trust them with my clothing. They lost an item of and after talking to 3 different people for over a month I recieved no answer on what happened like it didn't happen at all! I never asked for reimbursement or replacement just an honest "we lost it" but Instead no response at all. Very dishonest people that now run this location.

  • Mary C. Hickey

We've been using this dry cleaner since it first came to the neighborhood, and our experience has been great every time. Not only do they do great work (cleaning, repairs and alterations) their prices are good and their service is completely reliable. Just started bringing stuff there again after a brief hiatus from work clothes due to COVID, and the place is as good as ever.

  • Lily Chan

Awful service. Two buttons on my blouse are missing after the dry cleaning. When I went back to the store to ask about the missing buttons, I found they apparently knew they forgot to give me those buttons. They knew my email and phone number but they didn't care to notify me. They didn't even apologize, instead, they argued those are not buttons. What the hell???

  • cris guti

Great customer service, with great quality work. Brought in a few garments with some stains that were hard to take out haf taken them to 2 different cleaners and they were the only one's who were able to get them off. Also brought some clothes on for alteration repair which they did a great job. This is the place to come for dryclean and sewing repairs.

  • Joseph Sandor

You have lost my business. Nice people but my clothes have come back still reeking (under the armpits) twice now. The first time I called them back up and they offered to clean the clothes again for free (which was successful in removing the smell), but I am really disappointed this has happened again (for four separate garments).

  • Zach Grossman

I came by to drop off some work shirts that had pen ink and grease rubbed into them. The building was bright and tidy, and Sandra helped me get an account going and set up for free delivery on future orders. My shirts came back crisp and clean, without any weird stains or scents. I'll absolutely be coming back. Thank you!!!!

  • Sally Adams

Press Dry Cleaning is by far the best dry cleaning service I've tried in D.C. They were able to get stains out of a dress that another place tried three times to get rid of. They always have my clothes ready on time and the price is fairly reasonable. I would certainly recommend this place!

  • alexis carolina

don't just review every service that I try. I am posting this review for this dry cleaner because of the excellent way by which they treated me, a new customer, in need of a dry cleaner yesterday. They took care of me with a sense of urgency.

  • Keith Conquest

I have lived in many states and have used many different dry cleaners. I can honestly say that The Press dry cleaners is by far the best that I have ever used. All the services from alterations to delivery are absolute perfection!!!

  • Jax

I spilled bleach on a coat and they told me they couldn’t guarantee anything but would give it a try. It was a beige coat and when I got it back it was almost all a uniform color! I can’t believe they fix discoloration with bleach!

  • Shane Lewis

They get the job done. I haven’t had any issues with my clothing and I’ve been using them for years. My primary challenge is working around their store hours. I wish they had later hours during the week.

  • Kaylee Boyce

The prices are normal DC pricing and reasonable with the neighboring cleaners. I had a few dresses and blazers cleaned that were very clean. They took care of a few stains I pointed out as well.

  • lia gomez

This is my favorite laundry shop for a number of reasons. One, this is very close. This is one of the two laundry shops on my street. Their rates are quite okay. And their staff are very good

  • Pamber melendez

I was just doing a general cleaning of my apartment. We replaced many things: curtains, sheets, blankets, etc. Took all of them to this place and picked them up the next day. Pretty fast!

  • aroma regmi

I had a ball gown from an event last December that needed to be cleaned and sewn back on the strap. They stitched up the straps together very well. It was barely visible!

  • Eunsun Jee

Had some pants that needed to be altered and was in and out in a few minutes. I tried them on in the store after they were completed and was very happy with the results.

  • saimar carolina

I just moved in to the neighborhood and so am so glad there's this place close by. It's not easy to find a laundry service you can trust and I'm glad I've found them.

  • Milan Gamble

1+ years using The Press. Zero issues. Appreciate that they're open until 8pm on weekdays, and are open on both Saturday and Sunday. Always had friendly service.

  • Juan Sorto

The manager there wasn't friendly and I feel like the counter person wasn't as competent/welcoming as the ones working there a couple of years ago.

  • Sareena Thomas

After today I'm never coming back... For it to be first time customer. They over charge They said it's a 10% discount but I dont see no discount...

  • Leanna Benge

I’m so glad i wasted my money on a comforter that wasn’t even dry cleaned when i picked it back up. Also happened to a co workers clothes.

  • Jennifer Broadwell

Really enjoyed using them, they were able to get my stuff turn around pretty quickly and there were no damages to any of the clothing

  • Amos Snead

This is the best dry cleaner in Washington, DC. And they're open on Sunday. Wonderful customer service and Kebba is always smiling.

  • Michael Callesen

These magicians somehow managed to get a toothpaste stain out of my favorite suit. I don’t know how they did it, but they did.

  • Donzell Jackson

I only trust The Press with my custom dress shirts and have been happy with the customer service they provide.

  • Brooke Socha

Dry cleaning is always returned well pressed and the woman who helps me is always kind and efficient.

  • Markell Johnson

New customers have to wait a week, or pay extra for standard turn around service. Not a fan

  • 张宇维

Awful. Just don't go. Worst service I have ever had. Moreover, they never apologize.

  • Neke

Worst experience ever. I will never be going back there! Don't waste your money!!!
