Downstairs downtown location in Horton Plaza. Excellent productions - have most recently enjoyed another Hersh Felder (Beethoven). There are multiple theaters, floors and entry doors which can be confusing. Small venues so Seating is generally good. Lobby is super small and can be crowded. Lines and service for beverages/snacks can be long, but you are able to bring into the theatre with you. Box office staff are great. Think the ushers are volunteers so some more helpful than others but pleasant. Ticket prices are reasonable for the quality of productions. Great place to see shows in downtowns SD.

This theater is different from others I've been to. It's part of the Horton Plaza, but on the outskirt near the NBC building. The theater is below floor level. Prior to entering the theater/stage area, they have a lobby waiting area with many places to sit while waiting. They also sell a variety of snacks: candy, alcoholic beverages, chips, cookies etc... The seats aren't the most comfy, even though they are cushioned. Every seat seems to have a nice view. Overall, I enjoyed visiting the Lyceum.

Great theater but I'm hearing impaired and can't always understand the dialog. I was refused headset device once by Sal and it was really embarrassing because he chose to ignore me while serving drinks. Thirsty customers just wanted to get their drinks and snacks and all agreed that I was holding up the line. One guy started recording me saying that he knew what I was was up to. I just left the theater. Didn't visit again for years until I had a friend playing in a show who I wanted to support.

Well run. Nice staff. Personable atmosphere. Not a bad or distant seat in the place. Lots of construction outside however (as of July 2022) so it may be difficult to find the entrance especially if you are early and they are not standing by the temp gate as they were for the event I attended. The whole block seems to be under a complete transformation so it looks messy to say the least but you'll comlettely forget about this once you've entered the theater.

I love the Lyceum! They've redone the inside and it is beautiful. The outside, with the Escher-esque stairs and mosaicked obelisk was already lovely. And the San Diego Repertory Theatre, which makes it's home here, is also delightful. Thought-provoking and/or fun plays and musicals, unfailingly friendly helpful staff, and adult beverages sold and allowed into the theatre in adult sippy cups. I've mightily enjoined many an evening here.

There are no bad seats in the house. Small, intimate theater with two levels. We sat at the top and I swear the actors were looking right at us the entire performance. At least that's what I though until my friend told me they were trained to look up but cannot actually see the seats because of the blinding lights. haha. Don't come hungry. While they do have a small cafe with small bites, food selection is little to be desired.

We enjoyed the play presented. It appears that the areaaround the theater IS STILL under construction repairs. Most disturbing was the BABY under 1 year old who cooed and cried throughout the presentation. Who at the LYCEUM would allow a baby into a theater presentation. This was a disturbance to the audience AND the actors. Ifor one will ask about this policy BEFORE I purchase other ticket

This is a great theater. It is small and every seat gets the attention of the artist on stage. It's almost like you are getting a command performance, you can look the actor in the eyes. I met people before, during, and after the show that had me laughing like we were old friends. Spend the money, have a good time, and enjoy life like only the theater can provide.

Because of the construction going on with the shopping center, the entrance is hard to find. They should definitely get more signs out. It makes parking more difficult also. Our play wasn't that good, so I will be more critical of what we might go to see here. The inside is very nice and the staff are friendly and helpful (once you get to it).

Saw Fun House there... it's and interesting story about my daughter becoming a lesbian and a father hiding the fact that he's gay. There are kids in the play and it's a musical. Was actually extremely funny and touching. The facility itself was nice. Production Crews the great job. And the house staff were very nice people.

Cute little hole in the wall theater hidden in the Horton Plaza downtown. Small and cozy. Because of the size there would not be any bad seating you could see the stage great from every angle. First time going will definitely be back for sure!! By the way the actors and actress was very talented and the musical was great.

The theater was nice but the parking situation whereby you (or some of us) end up having to walk through the abandoned Horton Plaza mall at night after a play is scary!!! We had a guy suddenly appear out of the shadows and follow us, me and my 80 year old disabled mother. No one around to ask for help. Will not go back.

A wonderful venue to watch great plays. Easy to find, plenty of parking at Horton Plaza, set fee of $8 with theater validation, a bargain, considering downtown parking fees. The theater is small; one enjoys great views of the stage from any seat. It gives one the feeling of being part of the play.

This amazing little theater is NOT even on the same wavelength as Horton Plaza. An unexpectedly intimate spot to catch a play or musical in the heart of the Gaslamp. Under construction, but I hope the spiral staircase and cool vintage signage goes untouched.

I have always enjoyed this small, comfy theater and I've been coming here for years! However, they remodeled and went up on their season ticket prices tremendously! For over 10 years we've had season tickets but now we can't afford it. What a shame!

This theater is so involved in the community. They welcome the local artists and they are able to perform pieces they're passionate about. The restrooms are always clean and everytime I've been there the people working the bar are so kind.

  • Fred Long

Great small theater. Every seat is perfect. Sitting rows too close together. I'm 6-4 and can hardly get my feet in between the aisles. Extremely uncomfortable if you're over 5'5". Other than that, great place to go see a show.

  • Karen Bland

We've never seen a bad show at the Lyceum! Amazing local talent is always professional. The theater validates for easy parking at the Horton Plaza parking garage. It's a wonderful date night for you and your love!

  • Anthony Krut

Great venue. They offer $8 parking at Horton Plaza so it's easy to park and walk to the theater. They have a couple of snack bars inside for drinks and snacks. Inside is very nice and seats are comfortable.

  • Puneet Dhar

Intimate little theatre! Delightful acoustics and shows. Only downside is a lot of down stairs. First from the street/ plaza level to the box office and then down to the theatre! Cute little snack bar too!

  • Drew Kroft

Great theater, convenient location plenty of parking. Horton Plaza, nearly abandoned and kind of creepy, has been sold and will be redeveloped. The Lyceum recently renovated and looks incredible.

  • Nikolas Hull

When open is amazing. Everyone is helpful and fun. Sandra especially was over welcoming and extremely knowledgeable of shoes. Once you get passed the drama class freaks it's quite nice.

  • Maci

Fun little theater. Me and my mom volunteered as ushers and we got to see the show free. Fun for friends and family depending on the show you all go see. Everyone was super friendly.

  • Neil Kennedy

I saw Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat put on by Arms Wide Open. This venue was fantastic for that particular performance, and even accommodated an auction in the lobby.

  • Mark Brule

The Lyceum is a beautiful theater below Horton Plaza. The productions I have seen there have been average, but the cast and staff are enthusiastic and wish to be the best they can.

  • Devon Michael

Carmen Amon's costume design is absolutely phenomenal. Patrice Amon's assistant directing definitely brought the play together as well. 10/10 would watch again!

  • Christine Bailey

Watched Matilda... Theater was perfect for the production. The concierge was incredibly sweet & helpful when our tickets/seats were messed up.

  • Tammy Rozenberg

Love this theater. Recently remodeled and looks great. The new staircase is pretty but a poor design for anyone with sight or mobility issues.

  • Vic L

Great theater with multiple stages and spaces. It's right under Horton Plaza so parking is convenient especially in downtown SD.

  • JAVIER AVILÉS.

My wife and I had a wonderful time here. The theater has a very intimate feel and all the seats feel close to the stage.

  • Susan Nelson

The venue is nice, the parking in downtown San Diego is difficult, but what a great performance by Hershey Felder!

  • J J

Nice theater, only thing I'd change is make the seats so you don't have to squat so low before sitting .

  • David Cravens

Went to see a great artist in photography, Antoine D.he had an outstanding showing theme of Fathers
