Absolutely fantastic roast! I don't go out for roasts very often but very glad we went here, the roast beef was amazing and as well as the roast beef joint there is brisket on the plate which was fantastic. The selection of beers, drinks and cocktails was great. They were very busy so although the food took a little while to come out it arrived hot and tasty so no worries at all. I also had the arancini as a side which was absolutely brilliant, the flavour was incredible! Will definitely be back as it's a great place to take friends who are visiting even just to have a drink and hang out.

Was great to see 2 different (and very tasty) veggie/vegan options for the two veggies with us, and a lot of the sides were too.

We ate an excellent roast dinner here yesterday. It was the best vegan roast we have had in our lives! Portions were a very decent size too, a rare experience these days. One of us had the pork roast and said it was one of the best roasts he had eaten also :) Tried the arancini starter dish (with cashew sauce, pea and mint pesto) which was absolutely delicious also. The vegan roast consisted of butternut squash roast with herbs and onions, roast potatoes, peas cabbage and carrots, swede puree, beetroot, and a breadcrumbed cauliflower, with gravy on top. Just wonderful and went down very well with the delicious house red. Will be back again soon, delighted with the food and friendly service. Thank you! :)

We managed to get a last minute booking for the Sunday roast, so we were immediatley pleased to get a seat at the table. This was our first experience here but it absolutely won't be the last. Between us we had the chicken roast, the beef, the squash & lentil roast, and they very kindly accomodated a bespoke veggie roast composed of all the sides. Everything was cooked beautifully with excellent seasoning throughout (the beef brisket was my favourite - tender and packed with flavour). We also enjoyed tryng to identify the extremely delicious puree, which was a joy to eat. Pudding were equally refined, sticky date caramel pudding and teh rhubarb crumble being top picks. Generous portions, outstanding service, beutiful decor. Highly reccomended, can't wait to return and try the regular menu next time I'm in Bristol.

Booked inside table for 10 on a Sunday. Family occasion wanted somewhere funky and with enough space for little ones to get crayons out etc. Starters were excellent especially aricini sauce. Mains were so filling we left with doggy bags, my son cheerfully eating roast potatoes for next 24 hours.

The food is amazing, creative, quality updates on some classic menu options. We visited on a busy Saturday for lunch, service was quick and it was the best fish finger sandwich and omelette I’ve ever had. The drink choice is vast! So many niche spirits, local beers and ciders to choose and all very reasonably priced. There is an outside terrace on the front to enjoy the buzz of Gloucester Road, this is set back though so you’re not on the busy road. This was a long awaited first visit that didn’t disappoint and we’re looking forward to visiting again. A rare lunch minus child, but worth noting it’s family friendly. Lots of tables and dining spaces. The live music lineup looks fab too.

I went there for dinner on a Friday night. The first thing I noticed is that the inside is nicely decorated, with bright paintings and fun ceiling suspensions. Along with the sofas and the space inside, it made me feel very comfortable. Service was great, even though food took very long to come, but I guess it is normal in a Friday night. Despite the delay, everything was tasty and enjoyable. We had roasted peppers, hummus, a salad, mackerel pâté and potatoes with kimchi and cheddar, and everything was delicious. Desserts were also excellent. Last but not least, the DJ set by Nathan Worm was very cool. There were dub, funk and soul of the best quality in the mix.

  • Jan May

Really good music venue. A terrific range of ales at reasonable prices. I've just returned from a Tuesday night here. The band were good and their guests - in particular Jaylow and Felix - were outstanding. Convenient location on Gloucester Road with parking spaces right there on the main road. There was food available but I didn't arrive until 9.30pm and just a handful of people were eating .There are tables outside, which, on a warm evening like tonight, offered a welcome relief from the heat inside despite the doors being open. A lovely atmosphere and a good place to meet friends, eat and/or eat.

  • Matthew Noone

Honestly, I can't rate this establishment any higher than the 5star I've given it! BUT!!!!!!! Loads of people say that about places, you go there and are summarily disappointed. THIS IS NOT THAT PLACE!!!!! Lived over this way for 5 + years and haven't heard the quality of musical selection I've heard tonight in any other so called late bar! But the biggest plus of the night was the way the manager ( really sorry I can't remember your name man) helped me and my wife out of an awkward situation without even batting an eyelid. TRUE GENT!! PS All the rest of the staff are awesome too!!

  • Catherine Warren

Decent roast, really poor service. Staff took ages to seat us and then became very pushy and told us several times we needed to vacate the table by a certain time. We were eventually moved to a new table so we wouldn't have to vacate early, which we appreciated, but ended up getting kicked off the table at the same time we would've had to leave the other table. Staff ignored us and forgot drink orders and were generally rude. We appreciate that Sundays are busy, but the pushy naturae of the staff made the experience really unpleasant. There was no need for it.

  • tmos333

Excellent standard of food and friendly and efficient service. Booked for a family get together (not by me.) Table layout wasn't ideal and due to menu confusions, ended up pre ordering 3 times from three different menus/versions of. However, I ended up having some of the best prawns we've had as a starter, followed by a very large, beautifully cooked fish. My partner's pork belly was also succulent and flavoursome. Was particularly impressed with the quality and variety of vegetables - often an overcooked or reheated afterthought.

  • Charlotte

Had a table booked for a Sunday Roast. Staff were attentive to begin with but food took over an hour to come. Complimentary drink given but unfortunately they gave me the wrong pint and didn’t seem like they believed me when I mentioned this. When the food came the staff were apologetic however my food had baking paper in it. I felt the staff were quite dismissive of this. Overall we spent 3 hours there for 2 drinks and a main course due to how slow the food and service ended up being. Wouldn’t go back after this experience

  • Tegan A

The Gali. What a place. Slightly scared of the random person paying for my drinks at the bar but on the whole fair decent place. To be surrounded by a courtyard of lovers at various stages of their romantic journeys brings me inner peace and the feeling of jumping off a bridge, hand in hand with my imaginary lover who would love it here . The dull thud of the kick drum through the burgundy walls rattled my soul and made me think of my grandmothers house who loved hitting me with her slippers and playing the drums

  • Dominic Bromley

Came here for a roast and it was very very nice, had a roast chicken and it ticked all the boxes. Chicken was delicious, gravy was nice and thick. Plenty of veg, cauli cheese was nice. Roast potatoes were crispy and soft on the inside. Service was very friendly and welcoming.

Came here as it listed as one of the 11 best roast dinners in Bristol according to the Best of Bristol list and I have to say everything except the beef was amazing. I like my roast beef a bit pink but this was pretty much rare which was hard to cut and chew. The cauliflower cheese was amazing and all the veg, needed more potatoes though ! Quirky decor like everything I've been in that area and very friendly staff. Marking down one star because of the beef and it is very pricey but definitely worth a try.

  • Jaafar El-Murad

The welcome seemed a bit aggressive - our request for a table for two was immediately met with an unsmiling "For food?" When we nodded we were told they would get a table ready, and ordered us meanwhile to get a drink from the bar! The menu was interesting, but the food was disappointing. The potatoes seemed like they had been microwaved one time too many, and the vegan "Wellington" was overcooked. I won't be going there again. Cost for 2 including soft drinks was £40. I did not leave a tip.

  • alistair powell

Met our son here after seeing the recommendation in the Bristol post and we weren't disappointed! I can honestly say that it was one of the best roasts I've ever had! Full of flavour and very well cooked with loads of fresh vegetables and a gorgeous cauliflower cheese. I had the pork, my son the lamb and my wife had the vegetarian Wellington - they were all lush and for a reasonable price! The atmosphere was warm and cheerful, the staff efficient and very friendly, a superb lunch

  • Aimee Coleman

Negatives: it's quite busy now and while it seems the staff are trying to maintain covid safety, it's so bustling with such a high customer/staff ratio, it would be hard to stop people acting irresponsibly. It's also quote expensive at about £5/pint. Positives: it's a beautiful place that's really fun to go to, so I can understand why it's so busy. The live music is fantastic and the house band/open mic sets they did pre-covid were so much fun. It's a great place to go.

  • SHAUN BYRNE

Great venue for a more progressive Bristol sound. Lots of experimental stuff in the week. Nearly always successful and if the music doesn't do it for you then the eclectic and creative menu should. Excellent food - with plenty of veggie and vegan options. Sunday sessions have been a huge success over the last couple of years but be aware that this stops in the New Year. Will be interesting to see how Sunday evenings go after Ruth leaves.

  • kate moore

Had dinner here with friends. As the website was under construction I asked for the menu to be sent which they said they would, but they didn't, despite asking twice. It was a very limited selection of mains, and it was far too dark, we could hardly see either the menu or the meal itself. I had the aranciini, they were rather stodgy, and overpriced. Good service, but wouldn't really recommend eating here, OK for a drink.

  • johnnysuper90

A nice cosy hipster style bar which often has music or open mic nights. Has an outside seating area which is popular all year round especially in the summer. A fair selection of drinks, but a tad pricey. Staff have been hit and miss during my visits. Some very friendly, some looking like they’d rather be anywhere but there. A cool environment which doesn’t seem to tolerate trouble or excessive drinking.

  • Diane Brennan

Nice place, we stopped off for a quick early evening drink after shopping and although it wasn't overly busy, there was a long queue to get served at the bar, so maybe there was a sudden rush as we arrived. They have live music in the evenings and this is apparently the place where George Ezra played before he was famous! Decor is bright and funky (is that even a word these days?)

  • Louise Duffell

This place is the bomb. The food is a tad pricey but it's honestly some of the best food I've had in Bristol and a lot of it is locally sourced. The vibe is awesome, especially on a sunny afternoon. The music is amazing, lots of brilliant local artists, especially jazz bands such as Snazzback. The decor is also cool. Everything about this place is perfect! A jewel in Bristol's crown.

  • Jane Griffiths

Great atmosphere, lovely food and efficient service. The arancini was particularly good, also nice were the buttermilk chicken and the aubergine tagine. Lots of vegetarian options and a good selection of wines and cocktails. Live Middle Eastern style music was a bonus. Would definitely visit again.

Can’t fault this place. It is aesthetically stunning inside - could have spent an hour just looking at the art. Shared small plates with friends and the food was delicious and beautifully presented. Would highly recommend the arancini and the crumbed tofu. Good choice of wines and all reasonably priced. Can’t wait to go back.

Long wait for food, about 45 mins, staff did come to apologize when the food came. Food were really good, would highly recommend. So be prepared to wait for the good food if you come. Shame we had to suffer from second hand smoke as we were surrounded by people smoking (both cigerattes and electronic cigerattes) at the outside seating area. So avoid alert for non-smokers.

  • Quentin Bromley

Vibrations were definitely felt, this is a source of great music and great people a like. The bar staff were really friendly and didn't look like they wanted to kill themselves which can be really off putting when trying to order... I've given it 4 star because I do usually like more "on the tap" options, but that's me being very picky as the options are adequate enough.

  • Charlie Williams

Had a few cocktails here last year and they wernt great. Gave it another try today based on the food reviews and what a roast dinner. Pork belly and whole dinner was absolutely superb. Had quite a few roasts in Bristol lately and this was up there with the best I've had. Nice to see they have a decent barman in who makes a great margarita too

  • Cormac Quilligan

Worst service I've had in any place on Gloucester road. We went for a post dinner drink last Wednesday and were refused service because we were a group of more than 6 people. Plenty of empty seats in the bar at the time. Will avoid it in the future!! There's many more bars near by that actually understand and appreciate what good customer service means!

  • Mario Di Maggio

Despite ongoing Covid challenged for both customers and staff, three of us enjoyed a SUPERB vegan, gluten-free lunch here today. The food arrived in generous portions and was TRULY outstanding. Ordering via the app was easy and the staff were great. Thank you The Gallimaufry for an unexpectedly pleasant dining experience on a busy Saturday morning.

  • Oliver Guiver

Just been for a delicious Sunday lunch :) great selection of drinks of all type, excellent food (we had the pork belly and chicken roasts) and desserts (the flapjack ice cream was a particular favourite)! One of our party remarked about the roasted peach and flapjack ice cream “If I end up on death row, this is what I’d choose for my last meal” :D

  • D Power

Amazing decor, really chilled atmosphere and great staff! We visited at lunchtime and had a lovely meal, followed by coffee which was all delicious. Can't fault the service and was made very welcome. The only (minor) fault was that I found the food to be a little oversalted for my taste, but was still delicious nonetheless. Will be back again.

  • Sebastian Templar

I came here for a roast as part of a friends Birthday surprise and honestly the service here was way above standard. The food and drinks were affordable, delicious and came with amazing hospitality. Special thanks to the chefs for cooking and a special thanks to Rachel looking after us all. Would recommend to anyone from any walk of life

  • Jane Bryan

Two of us had 2 small plates and a wrap for lunch. Won't need to eat again today. Very flavourful and imaginative. My husband had wanted the low alcohol beer but they were cleaning pipes. However they later brought him one on the house once they were done. First class. Nice vibe. Will come again! Special thanks to Oscar and Millie!

First visit to the “Gally” a few days ago for a spot of lunch and it was well worth it. Fantastic food, amazing staff and I’d love to be able to pop by in an evening they have live music on to soak up the atmosphere. Lots of space indoors and out front and a good selection of beers and ciders.

Very nice all-round experience on last day of lockdown. Effective, efficient service, all precautions meticulously adhered to, food unusual and excellent. Has transformed my experience of 'skin on chips', they were so very, very good that I entirely forgive the lost hyphen (and that takes some doing, believe me).

  • Thomas Stoate

Wish we'd been sooner. Had to wait awhile for the food but we ordered starters before our mains so we didn't mind. Everything was ordered on via QR code which was very easy. The portion sizes and quality of ingredients was outstanding. Loved the selection of beers and cocktails. We'll definitely be back soon.

This is the best bar in Bristol. Always nice people, the food is just delicious focusing on seasonal and local produce with provenance. Pretty epic line up of local and national musical talent with a new fancy outside seating area to watch the world go by (in any weather). I cannot recommend the Gali enough.

One of my favourite bars)restaurants on Bristol. A really great selection of beer and wonderful live music and open mic nights. Food to die for that goes far beyond normal pub grub. A huge selection of interesting small plates and great veggie and vegan options. Outdoor heated smoking/porch area too.

  • Bobby Gay

Went for dinner with a few friends at a restaurant over the road and tried to go here for a drink after. We were denied entry because our group was "too big". We were a group of 4 couples in our late 20s, hardly a rowdy crowd. If you want to turn away business and discriminate then good luck to you.

  • Sophie Glendenning

I never want to hear the galli talk about being crippled by covid and the economy when they refuse to let people in while they’re empty and when it’s bar service, and they quite clearly have enough staff. Absolute disgrace *aggressively* turning away business when your tables aren’t even full!

  • Fran

I booked a large table for a sort of reunion pne Sunday lunch. The booking process was a bit convoluted and even though we provided a pre-booking of our food it still took the best part of an hour to come. Saying that, the staff were really attentive and friendly and the food was AWESOME.

An excellent restaurant and bar. Understated from the outside, but excellent food. A really good place for larger parties, and great service. Very friendly staff and a reasonable price. Would recommend for a good evening meal. We were all very pleased with the food and drinks.

Popped in on the fly on route to picking my mother up from hospital. She was delayed so we decided to get some lunch. The food and the service was absolutely first class. I'd not been in the place since it changed from the Prom bar and was very impressed. Well worth a visit.

  • fzl RMN

It's ok. Fun decor inside. Groups of mothers having a prosecco or lone father's with pints during the day. Music and not overly hip crowd during the evening, if I remember correctly. Don't order the chips as a side as they aren't good and are about an ashtray sized amount.

  • Kunal Kothekar

A nice and quirky pub on the hustling bustling gloucester road. The new plus is the live music every day. The food menu is well curated and very european. It gets very busy on the weekend, so the reservation is advised. Bit on the pricier side, but very well managed.

  • Brian Clifford

Doesn’t look like a restaurant from the outside - and I’m sure it’s a fun music venue later on - but 5 of us chose here for dinner as we were looking for a good GF menu. Had a lovely dinner. Eclectic but tasty menu, with friendly & efficient service.

  • Matt P

Good roast. Lovely staff. Aussie/Kiwi barman is particularly attentive and efficient. Maybe a little on the pricey side but I judge a good roast by the standard of the spuds and these were hot and crispy with a fluffy centre! Veg nicely cooked too.

  • Simon Hardingham Chesters

I really liked it in here. The atmosphere, the quirky look and feel of the space, the local beers, friendly staff and vegan options for ales and food. Went at lunch time. Nice place to meet a friend. A little expensive... But has real personality.

  • Simon Wilson

Unfriendly staff, well not unfriendly, brusque? Hipster friendly beers, great if you like hoppy (I don't). My friend Rose wine was expensive and i know it was a cheap nasty bottle. A nice environment. I didn't eat here but the food looked great.
