*** Enchantment at its finest *** This was my first time to North Carolina and my first time staying at a bed and breakfast. What a treat the Duke Mansion really is. I make very few recommendations, but this is one I endorse, wholeheartedly. My niece’s wedding reception was held here and it was something out of a storybook, really. We all read about these things in magazine and papers, but have you ever been to one? Neither have I, until now. Allow me to gather my thoughts. The hotel is very old, built in 1915 and so plumbing and electricity were relatively new. Elevators were uncommon and air conditioning was unheard of, yet the Duke Mansion has all these amenities and herein lies its undeniable charm: The modern world melds with old time tradition and opulence. I went back in time and loved it. The hotel has a unique allure; well kept, clean, beautifully old, stately and plain charming. The grounds and gardens are a site to see. Amazing. Where else in today’s modern world can you find this? Here is what brought a gleaming smile to my face. The staff is great. They are proud to welcome you to this facility. It is written with the BIG smiles on their faces. The rooms are clean, the beds are very comfortable and what’s not to like when you wake in the early morning and meander downstairs to the dining room where a hot breakfast with scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, fresh fruit and hot coffee are awaiting you (vegetarian items too)? This alone was worth staying there. You’ll meet Inez, she’s amazing. She is charming and personable. Don’t skip breakfast, it is fantastically superb. It was a genuine pleasure experiencing the Duke Mansion. The staff exhibit heartwarming converse and are sincerely happy to assist you. The hotel is set center direct within a neighborhood of superbly old, towering growth trees – they’re huge. The canopy’s are vast and cove the residential streets in entirety. The most peaceful time abound was strolling through the neighborhood after breakfast. The temperature was cool, the sun was shining, the chipmunks were abundant and the army of landscapers were buzzing about. The neighborhood is adorably quaint. Mansions are commonplace on every street and they are quite the spectacle to see. I wish I could own one and call this place home (maybe when I retire). To boot, the mansion is a mere 7 minute drive from downtown Charlotte and oh, how I love this feature. Think about this. If I am ever back in Charlotte, I will not hesitate to go out of my way to stay here again. In fact, I can’t wait to visit this place again. I’m thinking of ways to entice my wife to come back and, I have to say, it’s pretty easy. Looking forward to my next stay.

Pros: The property is absolutely gorgeous and the gardens were so nice to walk through at the beginning of August. Bed was comfortable and the bathroom was very large in the Dowd Suite. Spacious room. Nice amenities in the bathroom including safe, bathrobes, and more. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Upon checking in, the front desk attendant immediately noticed we’d need a cot and had one sent to our room before we even got there. Great location in an upscale neighborhood. Cons: I understand this is a historical building, but our room was very musty smelling. Interestingly, the hallways, reception, conservatory, and our bathroom smelled fine. It was the room itself that was difficult to be in because of the smell. Carpet is very run down & stained and needs to be replaced. Upholstered furniture also very stained. Patio ended up being a shared patio and other guests on the property in the room next door were using most of the patio furniture so we were unable to enjoy sitting outside our room. Hot water served at breakfast was lukewarm at best. I had to go upstairs to the hallway water dispenser to get hot water for my tea. The upstairs touchless water dispenser was difficult to operate. If you didn’t have your hand/finger JUST SO hovering over the sensor, it kept shutting off. There were three of us in the room but we only had enough towels for two. On the day we arrived, the bellhop ended his shift at 3 pm. Check in isn’t until 3 pm. I’m not sure why the hotel wouldn’t have someone on later for guests checking in. Maybe it was an anomaly? For a hotel of this stature and price, I think there could be more attention to the little details.

I am a luxury travel advisor so I have stayed at many high end hotels and B&Bs. The bathroom was nicely updated. The room was just okay but a good size. For a place of this caliber I would have expected something much more spectacular in terms of customization of client stay, service, and food and beverage. Personally I would not spend my own money to stay here again. I purchased a night for my boyfriends birthday. We arrived about 5 PM. No one showed us where our room was located. No welcome drink was offered. No note welcoming us or any sort of recognition of his birthday in the room. In the morning we were woken up by the cleaning staff trying to enter our room just after 8 AM. We were supposed to receive breakfast delivered to our room and order off a menu but this option was never offered once there. We went to the breakfast in the dining room and it was a buffet that had been picked over. The woman serving that room was not in a good mood and seemed to be bothered that we would ask for coffee. Juice was Tropicana not freshest squeezed. Seeing as the front desk raves to me about this breakfast we would receive and could have in our room, this was less than subpar compared to other hotels of similar caliber. Overall I’d stay elsewhere if you are looking for friendly staff that wants to exceed expectations and noteworthy service.

This mansion and inn is so cute and quaint! For the price and stature I did not expect to submit a maintenance issue of a curling desktop (leatherette section) and rattling noise from the heater in the ceiling (off and on). Using Scott one-ply toilet paper in this establishment is a really cheap idea by management and does nothing to enhance or uphold the greatness of this establishment. These are glaring issues (being woken up to mechanical rattling off and on and the cheapest product) short-circuiting the manor. At no time on Valentine's Day weekend did we ever see anyone in management. Which means they hide in their offices or are simply non-present in ideation, leadership, and care. Everything (during the busiest period of revenue-the weekend) is left to the common worker. Who are not exceptionally memorable, warm, or engaging. Their focus is down and on their work. The maintenance of the grounds and building is otherwise remarkable! The breakfast was top-notch and I told the kind lady serving us, "finally someone else serves really good bacon besides me!" They had extra thick cut bacon!

Visited for breakfast only; did not stay overnight. Beautiful venue... The Duke Mansion is a quintessential icon of southern hospital with magnificent structure, furnishings, and gardens. Management and staff are accessible, friendly, and anxious to make your experience a good one. Buffet breakfast featured a reasonable variety of standard breakfast fare which was replenished as necessary, along with a generous assortment of breads. All was beautifully arranged and presented. Restrooms were immaculate and refined. The problem is parking. For special events, valet parking is arranged but on this day the Mansion's two very small lots were full but no valets were on duty. The very upscale neighborhood in which the Mansion is located tightly protects its limited on-street parking with signs reading "No Parking for Duke Mansion Events, Towing Enforced" everywhere. I drove around for ten minutes and eventually had to wait for someone to leave to get a spot. Advice: arrive early!

What a beautiful bed and breakfast. This place has such a rich genuine feel. The mansion itself is beautiful, the gardens are absolutely stunning and the breakfast could not have been better. The bed was very comfortable, the bathroom clean and our room was so quiet! The staff are so kind and accommodating. Duke mansion is in a prime location. We could not have asked for a better experience. Highly recommend!

It was a true pleasure to get married at such a beautiful venue. The staff was excellent from booking to wedding day. I couldn't have asked for a smoother process and I will continue to recommend this venue to anyone. Laura was a JOY to work with. She is so on her game. She responded to e-mails the moment she got into the office and was quick to catch things that could potentially cause issues down the line. I would work with her again and again if I could! The staff here genuinely care about each and every event. I felt like my wedding was their main priority and it seemed as though their main focus was making sure everything ran smoothly. The food was AMAZING and several of our guests mentioned how impressed they were. Dinner was absolutely perfect from start to finish. I would recommend this venue to every bride to be!

We had to pivot our plans for our once 130 guest wedding, in July 2020, and instead hosted an intimate 25 guest micro wedding at The Duke Mansion and it was absolutely PERFECT! We can’t say enough great things about The Duke Mansion and their staff (especially our wedding coordinator Brittney Derrick who threw the event together in 30 days). They were wonderful to work with! They balanced being accommodating to the visions and desires we had for our special day, while also putting protocols in place that made us and our guests feel extremely safe and comfortable during the height of COVID. If you are looking for a venue to host a micro wedding, and want to ensure it’s special and safe, look no further...this is your place!

I had my bridal portraits taken at Duke Mansion in April. It was an absolutely stunning venue to have my pictures taken. I worked with Cinthya in setting this up. She was responsive, helpful and informative. We did look at the Duke Mansion for a wedding venue. Although it would be a beautiful spot to have a wedding, as a host you are required to fill all of the rooms (I don't remember how many, maybe 20 or so). If you don't fill them all you are responsible for paying for those unused rooms. We couldn't guarantee our guests would book there and we didn't want to be stuck with this cost. You can also only have 150 guests- this wouldn't have been an issue for us but obviously would be if you have a larger guest count.

The Duke Mansion is the perfect place to plan any important get-together. The event spaces are so sophisticated. The garden surrounding the property is a lovely backdrop for any occasion. The kitchen serves up a delightful spread, whether that’s the complementary breakfast or catering for your event. We had a wedding with most of the guests being out of state. This was a stunning venue that met an unfathomable number of needs for our big day. I couldn’t have imagined a better venue. Also, Katie was our point of contact. She handled all our needs speedily and with class.

I was at the Duke Mansion as part of a class for work. There was valet parking for the event as there is limited parking next to the mansion. We were seated in the dining room at round tables for the lecture. The seating was comfortable for the 4 hours I was there. The temperature inside the mansion was somewhat cool - I was glad I wore long sleeves - but better too cool than too warm. There were two bathrooms that were accessible in the main part of the mansion. They were clean and functioning. We ended the day with a meal. It was excellent. Plenty to choose from and great taste. I would recommend the mansion for other events like this.

The Mansion and gardens are exquisitely maintained. The staff was super attentive and courteous. Our King room on the 3rd floor was beautifully appointed and decorated the bedding was top notch. The also provided very comfortable bath robes . The bathroom was spacious and the towels and complimentary toiletries were also very nice. What was really amazing was breakfast served in the solarium. A great breakfast menu with delicious choices. Portions were very generous and included juice and coffee. We plan to visit again. A perfect stay!

This is an excellent spot in the Charlotte area to enjoy the beauties of their gardens, especially during these COVID-19 pandemic precautions days. We visited them a few weeks ago while we was visiting the local area, and we wanted to maybe get a glass of wine. Unfortunately the bar was closed, but a friendly staff employee explained their precautions and encouraged us to enjoy a relaxing walk through their gardens. This is a beautiful property for engagement and or wedding venue. I would highly recommend it to friends and family members who enjoy beautiful gardens.

Wht a very ntresting place! The staff we're very courteous n professional n tended 2 our group's care. I had nvr heard of this place b4 as im not originally frm here, but hv bn living n Charlotte 4 awhile. It reminds me of the olde south n alot of ways n particular the decor. Wasn't impressed wth the rm whr the affair i was attending but the gardens r just beautiful! Perhaps i may get another chance 2 visit this place again n can give a better rating. I do wanna thk the staff of ladies who we're wonderful. They made the "baby shower" event very smoothe.

A Gem in Downtown!! This place is absolutely gorgeous! From the moment I arrived I saw the lights in the dawn shimmer on the mansion and was greeted by a beautiful fountain. The garden is wonderful and a great place to relax in. Although I was only here for a conference and did not get to see the rooms the staff were very attentive to our needs and made it a pleasurable experience. I will most likely come back with my boyfriend for a weekend just to get away!

Spotless, well maintained and good sized historic yet modernized room a mere $10 or so lyft ride from the stadium to watch the terps beat nc state at the mayo bowl. Price competitive with other nice city hotels, with the fantastic breakfast helping to make it rise above the rest, along with unheard of free parking

The Duke Mansion is in the Myers Park neighborhood of Charlotte. We visited it on while on a tour. The gardens are very well designed and flow nicely into one another. What we saw of the mansion was very nice, however, our tour was restricted to the first floor and outsise only as all the rooms on the second floor were occupied by guests. My only recommendation would be to call ahead to ensure the seconomy floor rooms would be included on the tour.

  • Mark Andrews

Incredible place. Check their website for more information. If you ever have a chance to attend or host an event here, it's well worth the effort! The Duke Mansion is a great historic landmark & all of us should be thankful for the opportunity to visit, tour, attend events and host events here! One of the most valuable landmarks in the state, definitely for Charlotte. Beautiful gardens and Mansion inside and out. Five Stars

  • Lisa Centola

What a hidden treasure this place is! Nestled in a residential community, this mansion is the perfect place to just go and walk the gardens. Many different areas with chairs, tables, stone benches and gazebo where you can just sit and have a picnic lunch without even being a guest in their inn. Ladies Day out!! Put in your big brim hat and stroll….with your champagne glass in one hand and Brie cheese, fig jam and cracker in other!

  • Tyler

What a gorgeous place...from the outside - the volunteer grounds crew is INCREDIBLE! I will admit my perspective of this mansion is skewed as I recently visited the Biltmore BUT the prestige at the Duke Mansion carries some serious clout. Each room accessible to the public resembles a different Board Members feeble attempt to reflect on the history of this gem...unfortunately you can tell there are too many cooks in the kitchen.

  • Kevin Borkowski

A serene property, offering a curated stay in a historic mansion with ethereal common spaces and a to-die-for dining room for those included morning breakfasts. Beautifully appointed guest rooms, spa-like bathrooms, with large porches to sip those mint juleps. And the gardens are so lush and manicured. This property is a must when visiting Charlotte!

Lovely and charming. We stayed one night for our anniversary. The staff is friendly, the property is full of history with beautiful gardens. The breakfast was very good. We took a walk outside the property and it was great to have such lush greenery all around and so close to Uptown. If we will have family/friends in town, we will recommend this place to everyone we know. Great find and gives a perfect feel of Southern Charm.

Recently went to the duke mansion for a wedding. I could not say enough about the fabulous customer service. They treated the guests of the wedding as if they were their own friends and family. Beautiful historic home in the heart of Charlotte. The grounds are immaculate and open to the public - anyone can wonder around, you don’t need to be staying at the hotel. Definitely worth a visit! Ask the front desk for a map of the property. Great spot to spend a couple hours of an afternoon! Tons of gardens to explore.

Great hidden gem in Charlotte. The Duke Mansion restored - offering moderate sized indoor meeting event spaces, intimate gardens for social events. Hotel services are more limited than a traditional hotel. Does not offer/have full-service restaurant; more BnB style. With adequate notice, the kitchen has offered full off-site "to go"-type catering for lunches/dinners at very reasonable prices.

  • Vitalina

The gardens are beautiful towards the end of June but felt mislead about admission on their website. It says free to visit just call ahead to check if there are any events, which I did and was told it was a great time to visit. Drove pretty far, turns out you can visit but you must pay to take photos. Would be nice if that info was updated under the garden section on their website.

  • Tiffany Lee

The home is beautifiul. All the rooms are decorated so nicely and the updated modern bathrooms are to die for. Although one of the guest rooms has a musty smell and one of the rooms has the air unit making a noise in it. The gardens I could sit in all day, they are so pretty and peaceful. You would never know you were sitting in the middle of a busy city.

  • Grace Johnson

Was a grand place and every one was very friendly. Love the history but our room was very plain compared to the rooms in the photos you see in the advertising. They are very lush and ours was very nothing. My price was the same as the very nice rooms.

My first experience at The Duke Mansion was for Cocktails in the Courtyard. Grabbed a drink at the makeshift bar (cash & credit accepted), then wandered the beautifully maintained grounds. I'll definitely come back. Just wish there was a lil music playing or pamphlets/QR to read. For a free event, I HIGHLY recommend. Just be sure to tip you bartender.

A couple weeks ago I was able to shoot at the Duke mansion. We shot a baby shower for Vani, the Food Babe. The venue is actually so large, that you can have multiple events set up at the same time and never run into another event. I was actually surprised of the size of the place given that it’s just right off the main road headed from downtown.

  • Mari Medley

Why stay at a chain hotel when one has the opportunity to stay in a historic home. Well managed, staff friendly and knowledgeable of local dining, sights to see and the life of the mansion. We have decided to return for the springtime to enjoy the grounds. Plenty of parking and space in our king room. Try #206 you will not be disappointed.

  • Mark Tevis

Our stay at the Duke Mansion was fabulous. The staff was attentive to any need, room service was impeccable, breakfast was delicious & the building & grounds were both well-maintained. If you're looking to stay overnight in Charlotte, the Duke Mansion should be high on your list for consideration. You won't be disappointed.

My sister just hosted her wedding at the Duke Mansion and we could not have asked for more courteous, helpful, or professional staff. The building and grounds are unique and beautiful, the food including the homemade biscuits was delicious, and they found ways to help us out and keep us safe all weekend.

Beautiful classic home. Bedrooms are quite elegant. Grounds are well maintained and very inviting and relaxing. An absolute gem just minutes away from Uptown. A one night stay cam be be just the ticket to relaxation. Breakfast was fresh and delicious. There was a good selection and service was terrific.

Great place to hold and event. My toom reservations were lost but i was kinda happy about it because the rooms were small and dated and the pricey was too much. I had a much better stay in town than my friends who stayed there did. Other than that the place is gorgeous and the grounds are well kept

Was there 4 an extraordinary "baby shower"! Svc was gd, food was ok, expected more n taste! The decor was rather dated n colors were bland particularly 4 the setting whr we attended. But i must say the gardens n patios were just beautiful. The servers made our event as pleasant as possible.

We didn't stay in the mansion, but absolutely love to visit its gardens, there is no fee and have free parking. Social distance SAFE to visit.

Celebrated my 50th Birthday with my wife here. Nice elegant old fashioned romantic place. Service was good, food was really good. Nice romantic setting. Would visit this place again.

It's been an honor to be a banquet server with the staff here. The place is gorgeous, but the team makes the dreams come true. Whatever the occasion, this staff has the gifted hand.

Stay was awesome, staff was super friendly, bathrooms are huge and well maintained. Location was prime for a wedding, which is what we were there for. Excellent air conditioning.

Great historic place to stay. Rooms are obviously older and could use a little touch up and repair. Great place for events, I wouldn't stay here if I was just visiting the area.

A beautifully architected mansion, relaxing interiors, imposing exterior and the exquisite gardens. A jewel near Charlotte's center city. Must see and highly recommend to stay.

Beautiful facility. Gorgeous surroundings. They could do with a few more main floor restrooms but that's my only critique.

There for a wedding. Gorgeous location, total class. Friendly staff and good food and drink. Only negative: two unisex bathrooms for 140 people. No bueno

We went for music in the garden. The sound system was not working, so we missed a lot of it, but it was still nice to get out and enjoy the garden.
