Meh. That’s my general feeling about Dakota. We were initially very impressed and excited about the appearance and ambiance of the bar- what a cool chandelier! But quickly we realized they were missing the mark. First off, they have a wall of wine but my two orders (a Bordeaux and a Spanish sparkling rosé; both highest priced wines in their categories) were extremely forgettable. The Bordeaux was very young and flat, and rosé was overly sweet and yet lacked any real flavor. Sadly disappointing. My husband got a cocktail and reported it wasn’t well balanced. On to the food menu- while the attempt was good, it was a not diverse menu. I understand the full page of pizzas, but the entrees were all basically repeats: salmon with lemon butter sauce, chicken piccata with lemon butter sauce, and chicken with a wine butter sauce- all basically the same dish. It was all just not meeting the mark and has so much opportunity to be more memorable. They seem to be struggling between being a pub or an upscale wine and cocktail bar. The food reads pub, but the ambiance begs otherwise. All that to say, I did order the Cobb salad and the presentation and taste was very impressive. If you are interested in salads (there are a lot of options) or pizza, this place is for you. Unfortunately, not so much for drinking or exciting eats. Our experience wasn’t “bad” just mediocre and lackluster. Oh and a final note: the waiter, who we didn’t see for most of our meal, started clearing the table and literally wiping it with a wet rag as we were standing up and putting our coats on. The place wasn’t packed nor was it closing time. It was almost comical because he kept nearly running into us. We just needed 3 minutes to get up and dressed and we’d be gone- that couldn’t have waited? It was bizarre and really not a final impression you’re hoping for when leaving an establishment.
Ok found this place by accident waiting for my brother one day. The decor was lovely and inviting along with the tasty brunch menu at $20. So you would think they would skim on the portions or offer very little on options. Surprisingly their menu was choked with tasty options that were healthy and didn't avoid flavor. My boyfriend had the Dakota Mile High French Toast - challah bread, strawberries, blueberries, maple syrup and caramel syrup.......he his equally a foodie and thoroughly enjoyed himself. My fickle palate had the Egg White Primavera - zucchini, yellow squash, carrots, sundried tomatoes, goat cheese and basil (mind you I love cheese but not into boogie cheeses), but I must say the combination was quite pleasant including the side of Potato Butternut Squash Hash. Topped with Bellinis.........one word AWESOME!!!!!! Sunday to start. I advise going early they get a steady crowd throughout the day. But highly recommended if you want a simple yet fancy breakfast on Sunday.
Came to the Dakota bar around 1:45am on 9/27/2017 to have at least one beverage. Was told it was last call at the bar though there was still 15 minutes left and a couple people at the bar still drinking. I told the bartender we still had 15 minutes left since we walked from 66th street with the intentions to have one drink before they close. According to google reviews and their hours posted on their site, they close at 2:00am. I'm dissapointed with the fact that the bartender refuse to serve me a drink because according to her, it's up to her discretion wether she should stop serving drinks regardless of the time. Thank you but no thank you. You shouldn't be advertising that you close at 2:00am if you stop serving customers at the discretion of the bar tender. Maybe it was my ethnic background who knows. She seemed happy to serve her current customers. I would stay alway from this place
Very friendly and clean place. Bathrooms very clean, fast service and very tasty selection of food. Best part happy hour is from 3pm -6pm and the happy hour menu includes beer, wines and appetizers. Worth a visit, directly across from strawberry fields in central park.

My daughter had her 30th Birthday here last Saturday. Everything from the start of planning to the actual event was on point. We worked with Alicia who was on point with everything from service to accommodating and very friendly and helpful. She was simply the best. The food was great as well as the cocktails. Very friendly staff all around and the atmosphere was perfect. Great décor as well. I have nothing negative about this place. Found a new hotspot on upper west side. People its a must try. and ask for ALICIA>>>> She's great.
This is quite literally our corner bar. We stopped by last Friday for a drink before supper, and the place was lively. It was a nice summer afternoon, so they had their windows open, and it was great to be able to sit indoors and still feel like we were outside. The bar tender was very nice and friendly, attentive without hovering. All the menu items looked good, but we only ordered the fries because we didn't want to spoil our appetites. We ate every last one! This place is definitely one of our go-tos in the neighborhood.
An exceedingly horrible experience. I was denied access to the bathroom and forced to leave the establishment because I hadn't purchased a drink yet. This is completely outrageous and unheard of in New York. Adding to the absurdity of this whole experience is the fact that the group I was with had communicated with the bar beforehand, and told them that we were coming, and that not everyone would be purchasing drinks! It is completely unprofessional of them to force us to leave after having agreed to it beforehand.
Had the single WORST service experience of my life in this bar, waitress was practically going out of her way to ignore every patron in favour of looking busy, 'cheese' platter contained approximately 3oz of cheese but was otherwise fine. 20 minutes of waiting to be served a second drink (none of us at the bar were in this time) I asked for the bill, took another 20 minutes for her to take my card and process the payment of myself and the 3 other patrons desperately trying to leave. AVOID
LOVED this place! Food, drinks, atmosphere were just my cup of tea for an afternoon with friends. We came here for drinks after brunch at The Fat Monk (check that place out too!!) after which we went to an event in Central Park. After the event we went right back to Dakota for drinks and appetizers. Fish tacos, shrimp& avocado bruschetta, and sliders...oh my!!! The maple old fashioned was amazing!!! I feel like everyone should have one in their lives. Will be back!
Really trendy cocktail bar in mid town. We stopped here on our wedding day with our photographer for a well earned cocktail (or 6!) after hours of walking through New York. The prices are quite high here though. There was only two other customers here when we stopped in and it was a bit disappointing to not get any recognition from the bar staff that we had clearly just got married (Not that I was looking for attention but it would have been nice).
We had a small wedding ceremony in the city and brought our guests here for dinner and drinks afterward. Alicia made sure champagne and charcuterie boards were there as soon as we arrived and the staff was very attentive and friendly throughout our meal. The food and drinks were fantastic and the atmosphere was perfect. Thank you to the staff for making us feel welcome and special, you helped make our night everything we hoped it would be!
Got here on a saturday night. Wow were those fried eggplant appetizers greasy, I would barely pinch them and they just oozed grease, couldn't enjoy them at all. Overpriced too. Have never tried any of the other food. Cocktails (I ordered a Manhattan) poorly mixed and too strong, and overpriced as well. Waitress was nice though, and music/atmosphere, which are the only reason I didn't rate 1 star. but obviously won't be going back for those
Place looks nice when you walk in, went downhill from there. Server made us feel guilty for being there, her attitude was atrocious. Also menu has a bunch of “specialty cocktails” that they don’t know how to make. Bees Knees was essentially a spiked lemonade and the whiskey sour tasted like a screwdriver. Not worth your time or money.

They don’t know their cocktails. Bee’s knees served over ice and basically a gin & tonic…..So don’t order that. Maybe just go for wine because they can’t mess that up (we hope?) French Connection… was hot (???). Google it — not a hot cocktail. Hands down are not a true cocktail experience. Definitely not worth the money, time or experience. Super disappointed - other reviews made it seem worthwhile. Was not.
I don’t think I’ll be coming back. The restaurant was really quiet not busy at all. We sat outside. The waitress brought our drinks but never came back to take our order. I had to go inside to get someone’s attention so we could order. We had the fish tacos and buffalo wings. The waitress did redeem herself afterwards by being more attentive. But definitely over priced for really average bar food.
Simple menu and good food on the UWS. It's an intimate setting with comfortable seating and interesting decor. The chandelier above the main section of the bar is a folksy, funky twist of musical instruments, hanging beads, glass plates and exposed light bulbs. Grab a glass of wine and salad or pasta. Perfect spot for small groups (under 8).
Definitely a good place to get some drinks. Went here before catching a movie at the Lincoln square AMC that's a few blocks away (5-8 min walk). Very friendly staff and great environment. Would recommend for anyone going out for dinner/drinks and a movie. Beer selection is a bit limited, but they seem to have a fair cocktail and wine menu.
Awesome little spot we found after walking central park. Great atmosphere. The bartender Alfi welcomed us with a smile and great conversation. He made some great suggestions for our stay in NYC. Made us feel extremely welcome. Thanks again, definitely made our day. We didn’t have food but if it’s as good as the service, you’re in luck.
The waiter was one of the friendliest I've ever had. He was working his tail end off because it was busy, but we didn't feel neglected at all. Food was good, drinks were good. 4 entrees and 4 drinks costed $135. Reasonably priced in my opinion. I think the waiters name was Nick. Nick deserves 10 stars, easily!
Meh…for lack of a better word. Beautiful interior, but the food was mediocre. Ordered fish tacos and it was bland. Seemed overpriced, but the portions were hefty. Service was few and far in between. I could only catch my server’s attention when I was getting out the bathroom and he was trying to get by me.
Seemed like a popular spot for getting cocktails. We stopped in for a couple of drinks before heading to dinner. The prices seemed a bit on the higher end ($11 for a glass of Cava and $15 for a Paloma). The bartenders weren’t exactly warm or engaging. Maybe it’s a local favorite? For me, it was just okay.
I visited the place on 3/22/2021 . Ohhh.... woow where should I start... The old fashioned $15 it's completely a joke! You should remove it from the menu. Or Rename it to * OLD FASHION JOKE ! ICE TEA took for ever to come out. The avocado tost was tasteless. The pizza was all right. But that was all
The food was great, service is satisfactory. I asked sharing plates and a waiter didn’t bring. After reminding that the waitress brought the smallest sharing plates ever It was quite a challenge to put ravioli and salad together. I feel like the food is a little bit overpriced. …
Nice and cozy. The food is surprisingly good, better then majority of bars and even some restaurants I’ve been. Drinks are good , unfortunately cocktail menu is pretty slim. It feels like the menu is all about beer and wine. Yet , I’ve had a good time, sweet spot for a date …
Stopped here for a drink after work and was well treated. Tracy at the bar helped me choose a snack to accompany my cocktail and generally made me feel welcome. When my order was taking awhile she went and checked on it, and let me know what was happening, without me having to ask.
Sooo many better places to go. We put in an order, and literally two seconds later asked the waitress to cancel one item. She said it was impossible - it's already been sent to the kitchen. Wow must be a long walk to the kitchen. Drinks over priced, food not very good.
Stopped by this bar after taking a walk in Central Park. The staff was unfriendly/cold and the service was slow. I ordered the Dakota Fizz drink and it definitely was not worth the money. On the positive side, the inside was nice and the shrimp bruschetta was amazing.
This place is aimed at the 40+ crowd, the music was kinda old fashioned and safe, not in a good way. Drinks were expensive but no hard ice for the whisky. Poor beer menu with overpriced beers. Service was functional but not very friendly. Didn't try the food.
Great atmosphere but the service was terrible. I'm used to waiters checking in and ensuring everything is okay but at this bar I found myself waiting a long time for a refill or when I wanted to order more food. Disappointing. Otherwise great music and food.
Had Sunday brunch here and the food was delicious. I look forward to enjoying an evening dinner here as well. I didn't know what to order and the waitress was patient and helpful. She told me what her favorite item was and now it's my favorite item too!
i have never been to such a nice restaurant in my life the food was amazing and the prices were so reasonable. i stopped in with my mom and we had a great time the environment was great everything about this place was amazing i 10/10 recommend
Crazy story about this place. As my wife and I walked in, they asked to see our vaccination cards. We showed it and were seated promptly. We had the nicest corner table with street views so in the excitement, sat quickly and began looking
Ordered a Paloma and got a drink with flat sparkling water, boxed grapefruit juice, and rail mezcal. This would’ve been a great $6 drink but $15 feels like a scam. Much better going to Asset up the street if you want good cocktails.
Great service and lots of fun! I came here with about 20 of my friends&family for my birthday. Alicia, the manager, is fantastically kind and helpful. The inside of the bar is beautiful and a great vibe. Food and drinks were 10/10
Bartender was pretty rude to us and then added a mandatory 20% tip on to the bill for our drinks when they closed us out - ended up around 20$ per drink. My first time trying this place in the neighborhood and won’t be returning.
The brunch options are very limited and the waitress a bit snobby. Only pork for meat options and they are unapologetic about it. The place is pretty and the barback/busboy was busting his butt which was appreciated.
came here for an early dinner a few weeks back and ordered the salmon for my entry and the shrimp and calamari basket for an appetizer. both were very good and i ended up ordering a shrimp basket again before i left.
Superb location! The bar has a very jovial and knowledgeable team. We had a few bourbons and chilled for a bit and had a great time. Recommended for anyone who wants to have a good evening around this area of NYC.
Open late for quality cocktails, and bar food. Relaxed service forces you the relax and enjoy the low-key vibe and decor reminiscent of late-nighties to mid-nineties NYC. The opposite of a trendy place. Yay!
Pricey, shabby .... although it was cosy inside. Avoid sofas on the left hand side they are filthy and torn. Food is as ok quite tasty. But they were quite slow and the girl charged 20 % tip without asking.
Pleasant bar. Good food. A Nice crowd and fair prices. I go occasionally. I had a Cobb Salad the last time I visited. I recommend it. The only negative may be that the bartenders are not the best, at times.
Nice apmosphere. Way over priced considering theres a hundred bars in area. Maybe because John Lennin used to go there and the dakota residences are up the street is why prices are outrageously high.
The Dakota Bar, NYC. Prestiges home of the $20 Dogfish Head 90 minute IPA. Actually it was $16.50 + tax and tip. A tip that was non negotiable it seems. The beer was good and the music was ok.
Great place went for the first time this week but definitely will be coming back. They have a Great selection of drinks and food. Very comfortable and clean environment with friendly staff.
Being from the Midwest, my hubs and I had to give the Dakota bar a try on our upper west side adventure! We munched on flatbread and pigs in blanket- overall, it was pretty darn good!
Nice location near a central park memorial but the music was bit too loud as it fluctuated. The waitress was often unawares of our group's presence and forgottfulness of our orders.
Atmosphere and food were good. Not the best service though! Aaand, the restroom was dirty

Great decor. Attentive and fantastic staff. Here in NYC for the weekend, and already want to come back here when I have more time to sample the great drinks and brunch menu.
A solid choice. You will pay standard-to-high New York prices for well-made, interesting cocktails in a nice atmosphere. The service will be good, the drinks will be tasty.
Terrible bartender. 5 various people sitting with empty glasses for 20 minutes while this guy checks his instagram repeatedly. Impossible to get another drink or the bill.
Go to this bar for the wine and cheese. Do not go for the food. It's terrible and overpriced. Also, the service was not great. My waitress was unfriendly and inattentive.
2nd visit and more to come. Peaceful fun vibes. Alfie (bartender) made it epic. Love the instrumental chandeliers.

When you get one non-alcoholic beer on your menu (preferably Heineken Zero, or Becks N/A) I will provide the other four stars. And please don’t say you don’t have room.
Terrible food / drinks are subpar and prices are high. Only went here because I live around the corner for several years. I wouldn’t recommend it to anybody in earnest.
Excellent food, but my strawberry margarita was underwhelming; I couldn't taste the alcohol. I didn't like the tiramisu at all. The server was welcoming and attentive.
A close friend of mine and I came here some time ago. The food is amazing and the ambiance was wonderful. I could definitely see us coming back sometime in the future.
Wow, service is horrible, not crowded and when they did find time to interact, not friendly. Drinks watered down, Jack Daniels is the house whisky on a $18 Manhattan.
We did not have great service, our waitress was cold and slow... The drinks were good and the bar decor/scene was cool but it was overpriced. Wings were delicious...
No separate receipt. With a group of 7 waited too long. Worst service! One of us got his order only after reminding about that to server. Worst guacamole I ever had.
The staff is wonderful. A gem of the Upper Westside for a drink or a great snack. Nice atmosphere with a good playlist. A really good place to catch up with locals.
Stumbled upon it about 4 years ago. Always liked the lively neighborhood vibe, and have always been treated great. Always drop by a time or two whenever in the city
Right down from one of the most iconic apt. buildings in all of Manhattan. This bar is a great neighborhood spot for a refreshing drink of whatever you may fancy.
Nice place for an after work drink and a snack. Bar seating, pub height tables, and standard dining tables are available. Our waitress was friendly and attentive.
Beautiful and warm space. Great for romantic drinks or group of friends. Excellent wine list. Service was on point and friendly and would definitely go back.
Nice atmosphere but consistently bad service. Bring back Guyer’s!!!!!!

The Dakota bar is one of the nice places to go for a drink. It's got nice atmosphere professional staff and definitely a nice part of the upper West side.
Guys...$10 for a draft beer?! No way, that s ridiculous compared to all the other nice places in the neighborhood! Sorry but I won't come back again.
Dropped on for a quick drink , service slow and was gob smacked at the price for 1 beer, a gin and tonic and a glass of soda - $34. . Disappointed
Beautiful place. Happy to find Sencerre wine. The bar tender was nice. She left and it got busy but it is a busy and different time in the city.
Took forever to get service both times, over 5-8 mins. Was never approached by wait staff the first time, wasn't even busy the second time.
Pretty pricey and the bartender was not great. They did have a decent bottle list and I did enjoy the decor of the room. Great music too.
Cozy, classy atmosphere, tasty strong drinks....and horrible early 2000's club music. Pussycat dolls "don'tcha", bringing sexy back, etc.
Good selection, good service, good vibe. Average prices for the area. Happy hour like a good deal, even if the hours are kinda limited.
Great Saturday brunch. My wife had the Cobb salad and I had the salmon benedict, both were excellent, as we're the drinks and service.
Stopped in while visiting with my girlfriend and enjoyed the experience. Friendly bartenders, delicious drinks, and nice atmosphere.
Had the most delicious lunch in the relaxed atmosphere of The Dakota Bar. Any trip to NYC needs to include a trip to The Dakota. ❤
Service no good waited 15min for a drink. No personality from staff. Expensive. Only positive was the atmosphere.....great music.
I spent over 4hs reading at the bar last night. The atmosphere, drinks and attention make this place a 10/10. Highly recommend.
The space is great, especially if you go drunk with a date and be those people making out in the corner. The martinis were good.
Great bar to stop after visiting the death site of John Lennon. People are very nice here. Great environment and was very fun.
This was my first time here, and I would highly recommend it. Came with my daughters after a day in the city, and left happy.
Its good. Ambience is good. But its Manhattan so its not cheap, so it could be better. Really, just a bit better tasting.
Ambience is great, but came out of there still hungry and slightly buzzed spending over $100. Try the cocoa mint martini
Pricey drinks, good windows for "people watching", only 2 individual bathrooms , close to Central Park Didn't eat there.
Had a birthday here, they were very nice and super accommodating. Easy reservation, responsive, and good drinks + food!
Place was nice but the pizza wasn’t too good. The drinks definitely weren’t strong for the price too. Wouldn’t go back.
We only stopped by for a few drinks. The atmosphere was great and the service was awesome. Love the espresso martinis!
Love this restaurant! It was cozy and food was awesome. We sat near the window so enjoyed people watching in New York.
Respectible. Went there during happy hour and had very good service. Fried calamari was a bit rubbery, unfortunately.
Loved this bar! We just walked past it and decided to give it shot. The food was good and the service was fantastic.
Always lively, nice staff but over-priced and bad beer menu (and $9 beers). OK addition to the neighborhood, though
We went for a quick Sunday brunch. Service was fast and food was delicious. The restaurant is very trendy inside.
Great retro music, reasonable cocktails and wine by the glass, people watching through the wraparound windows.
They have their own 'take' on classic cocktails, nothing close to what they need to be. My advice: google it.
I am too old for the place, it's loud and ruacus on the week end. If you're young, it's probably fantastic.
Loved the atmosphere, and the vibe. Very nice place to take someone, or chill with friends for a drink.
Absolute recommendation. The bartender is a master of her domain. Never had a bad night at this place.
Had a very nice time here with a few friends. For good drinks and tasty food this is a reliable spot.
The Bar is abit small however the service is great. Love the location and the appetizers are awesome!
Dope place to grab a quick drink. The prices are typical for Manhattan, and the staff is friendly.
