This will always be a very very special place that I will always have near and dear to my heart. One day, the love of my life and I discovered this place, while driving around SF. When we got to the top of the hill, after walking up some stairs, we were both just absolutely stunned at the true beauty of San Francisco, as you can see almost every part of my beautiful city here. We loved this place so much that we come here whenever we had a chance. When ringing in the New Year in 2016, we spent the whole morning watching the sun come up for the first time in the New Year and I will never ever forget how gorgeous this was. I am so happy that we've found such an amazing place to experience together. We will never stop visiting this place.

Hard to beat in terms of panoramic view of the city that isn't overly crowded like some other SF city hills. Only downside is that the wooden stairs leading up from Twin Peaks Blvd. are a bit rickety and some steps are rotting to the point where you need to be very careful, especially on the way down. Stairs on the north side leading to Belgrave Ave. are in much better shape. On a sunny day the view is pretty amazing, especially of the Golden Gate bridge, Marin headlands, downtown SF skyline, and the SF Bay and Port of Oakland.
Dog-friendliness
Often several dogs up here, and the one that are off leash are usually well behaved. This is not a dog park, though.

I really should give Tank Hill one star so you won't be encouraged to go there. Ok, it's really cold and windy, no lights at night, access by foot only, no lifeguards. If you want the pretty standard awesome SF view, drive on up to Twin Peaks, pop out of your car for 15 seconds to snap a pic and get back in the car. Tank Hill offers photo-ops galore for worthy uphill climbers. I curse them for putting in a nice wood staircase with rails. Seriously, it's a must-see, no it isn't. Don't even bother. I'm not telling you how to get there anyway.

Small park with panoramic views east across the city to Oakland and Mt. Diablo on a clear day, and north across the city to the Golden Gate Bridge and the Headlands. It only has one or two benches, but there are also not usually more than a handful of people there. You can reach it by taking stairs that lead up from Twin Peaks Blvd, or by starting in Cole Valley and climbing south into the hills and then looking for a staircase where the streets end. Either way it's a pretty good climb.

Probably the best view of the city from any central point. The ascent is a test of endurance for older citizens but may be achieved by sensible and careful pacing. Time almost doesn't exist up here as one becomes mesmerized by surrounding panoramic scenery from all angles of the hill summit. Wrap up against the breeze, settle down with a flasked beverage, a tweak of the binoculars, then enjoy the rewards of being on this amazing geographically elevated site !

Located near the geographic center of the city, Tank Hill Park serves up a spectacular bridge-to-bridge panorama for anyone willing to ascend its rocky slopes. It is worth the climb. Above the frenzied pace of the streets, this is a vantage point for stunning views of the city's landscape. Similar to Grand View Park, Tank Hill is a rugged outcrop of rusty red Franciscan Chert, formed on the ocean floor millions of years ago, now jutting up into the sky.

I don't want to spoil it by telling of my favorite fishing hole, otherwise there'll be no fish when I come back. That was the best view of the city imaginable. That place's existence was recently shared by a local. There's no room for tour busses, but it has a fabulous point for perstective. I'm sure Mark Twain knew of this spot. The tank, I paced off 90 ft circumference. It must have been a spectacle.....

This is beautiful spot to view the City but I warn you it can be a little challenging for those of us with mobility issues such as Arthritic knees, bad hips, balance issues. It's all gravel pathways with jagged sliding rocks etc. A partially wooden stairway with a gravel middle gets you up there but it's narrow & somewhat steep. Have a friend help you up because it's a must see!!!

Just a short stairway up to the hill and a short walk to an amazing view of the city. This is my first morning in San Francisco and I started it off right by watching the sunrise. It's close to where I'm staying so I'll definitely be visiting again before I return home to NY. There are some local joggers and people walking their dogs. All very friendly. What a beautiful spot

One of the hidden gems in San Francisco, good thing it is not very popular tourist destination. However the views from here are spectacular. It is little bit of steep climb to reach the Tank hill, but it is really worth it. When we visited there were few people on the top of the hill, not very crowded. Street parking is available, just follow the parking signs.

It's super windy and rocky up here but you get a great view of the city. On a clear day you can see the Golden Gate Bridge. There are people who come with their dogs, jog, or just hang out. The center is a big circular cement platform but there's a lot of birds of rocks and trees, so there will be a need for cleaning if you want to picnic here.

San Francisco has many hills and vistas but I would argue this is one of the best ones. It offers some pretty unobstructed views of the golden gate bridge, golden gate park, downtown and the bay. In behind is Sutro Forest. The neighborhood around here is also really pleasant to walk through. It feels like you are not even in the city anymore.

One of the best views in San Francisco. From here you can see the ocean, most of golden gate park, the Golden Gate Bridge, Buena vista park, downtown, east bay, mount Diablo, noe valley, Castro, mission, mission bay, and even down into the South Bay. Ideal for sunrise views! Lots of parking if you park on the top part of the park!

The best unobstructed bridge-to-bridge views in the City...the Golden Gate is visible (unlike Corona Heights), there are no trees blocking downtown (unlike Buena Vista) and you can see the Bay Bridge (unlike Alamo Square). Best in class!!!

The old water tank footprint is a great place for catch+retrieve.

Great place with amazing views. There was an old fire water tank here until the city moved it about 500 yards away. They closed it down because it was outdated and people dumped there fish in the tank if they didn't want them. There is still a concrete circle in the middle of the hill which is where the tank used to be.

Spectacular view of ocean, Golden Gate Bridge, and downtown. It’s about 40 minutes walking from Golden Gate Park (8th Ave entrance from Fulton street. It has less tourists and much quieter than twin peaks. But offers almost same views. Of course, you can go to twin peaks from here. Just take about another 20 minutes.

I'm tempted to give this place a bad review just to ensure people keep going to twin peaks instead of tank hill. Great view over San Francisco and the GG bridge (on a clear day) and almost no people even in early July. Much more pleasant to walk to than twin peaks too, especially if you come from the GG park area.

Tank hill is a little piece of heaven. There is no need to hike miles to reach this place, just a flight of stairs and you are on top of the world! The place is so peaceful and beautiful. Gives an awesome view of San Fran like no place else. A must see if you are in the area. It will leave you speachless.

I had my brother in law take me for a walk around San Francisco. We took a bus to market Street and he asked if I'm down to walk. I didn't know what I was getting myself in to so we walked from market Street to tank Hill. I was extremely tired after the walk but the view was well worth it.

A great hike from the Castro with moderate elevation gain. Looks like it used to be the the site of a water tank (hence the name?) with trees and sweeping views of the ocean, city and east bay. It can be windy since it’s close to twin peaks but a great place for a picnic on warm days.

What a beautiful way to end the night and a weekend in San Francisco then overlooking tank Hill it seem like the town was out that night the vibe was beautiful San Francisco was beautiful I can't wait to return I really enjoyed my time. This was definitely in the icing on the cake.

Some of the best views of the city, rivaling Twin Peaks but with infinitely less tourists. It has two entrances neither marked with much fanfare which tends to keep this small jut of rock with the foundation of the water tank it is named for a semi secret local gem.

Nice short hike in the middle of San Francisco with a stunning view of the city at the top. It was not crowded but very windy so bring layers! The access is fairly straight forward, you can’t miss it. There is a bench but facing East, probably better for sunrise.

This is a hidden gem. Almost to the point that I don't want to say too much about it. We ventured up the hill to catch a sunset, and although the fog didn't reveal the sun, it was still a magical experience. There is a large green bench on top. It was perfect.

Tank Hill is an incredible tiny hidden park in San Francisco. It has the best views of the entire city without all the crowds, and is the best park in the city in my opinion. Well worth visiting, but keep it a secret to keep it unpopular, unlike twin peaks.

Quick walk to stunning sweeping city views. You can see the Oakland side from one direction and all the way to the Golden Gate Bridge from another. Jagged rocks and wind make this intimate spot feel removed from the city bustle. Very quiet and beautiful.

what a fun place to hang out on a clear day or to shelter behind the rock ramparts and watch the fog roll in. you can relax in the middle of the round former tank emplacement and visualize yourself being evacuated by helicopter from the roof of SF

The views of San Francisco from this location are fantastic. We started out on top of Twin Peaks which was super windy and the view obscured by clouds. We walked down the curvy road to Tank Hill and we able to see much more minus the strong wind.

Great views of the bay and also had a little rope swing that will enable you to take some mind bending photos that make it look like you're hanging off of the cliff. Not too many people here. Very quiet most of the time and kind of in the tuck.

This is a tiny little jewel, out of the main tourist routes, that offers stunning view of downtown and of the golden gate bridge. It is one of my favorites, I recommend hiking to it from Market street (Castro station) up along the Saturn steps.

Really nice point of view. I even prefer it to Twin Peaks. It's close enough to have a wide view of the city, of both downtown and golden gate part. There was supposed to have some swings, but they werr all broken... managed to repair one

This is a great look out point for the entire city. Great bay and ocean views as well as the downtown area. I hike up here frequently. Be set for some wind and to have to walk up a fairly steep hill to get here. Beautiful views, check it out.

Incredible view of the city, and almost completely unknown. Not very touristy and there was no one here when we were here! The walk is definitely a lot of uphill, but it's a fantastic view of San Francisco without the tourists.

One of my favorite spots in San Francisco. A hidden gem. Really beautiful views from Golden Gate Bridge to Embarcadero. It's a nice hike up there from Castro Street. Highly recommended for tourists and residents alike :-)

Local hill-cliff ! A bit smaller than Kite Hill, It’s neighbouring hill, stunning views, high winds (fresh air), large rocks, steps that take you down towards Stanyan/Cole. There used to be a huge tank up here long ago.

Most people know of Twin Peak but don't know about this small hill top park with better view of San Francisco downtown. Great place to relax and to show off the fantastic view of the City to your out-of-town visitors.

Small park with a lovely just-over-the-roof view of the surrounding neighborhoods. Gets a bit crowded during the weekend, but still worth passing by, sitting for a while and contemplating the city.

Gorgeous views. Particularly windy the day we went up, might be a tad to cold to have a picnic, unless the weather permits. Definitely a little bit of a workout getting there if you're walking!

You see everything there is to see from Twin Peaks and you also see the ocean on the other side of the Golden gate. To me it's a better view. Amazing. And parking is ample on the north side.

The drive gets steeper and steeper, it almost scared me. I suggest you have a reliable car to get you up. But the view is worth it. I recommend you go at night. It's a short Beautiful walk

Best view of the city... vantage is less majestic than twin peaks, but you're closer in, which makes it more interesting. Staircase entrance is easy to miss if you're not looking for it!

Beautiful, short urban hike up a diverse set of increasingly rustic staircases. Beautiful place to watch the sun set. I learned new things about the city's geography from being up here!

Best feature: nice views. It's off the beaten path and less busy than you would expect. Most ppl just zip by to get to Twin Peaks. Don't be like that and give this little park a chance.

A lovely spot for a dog walk, picnic, morning run place to watch the sunset and think. It's very peaceful and generally quite safe although I've never been there alone late at night.

I went into this hill and took pictures of it. However, the steps on the stairs facing Twin Peaks Blvd is small, which the LENGTH of the steps were less than a foot and is unpaved.

It's a bit of a hike up, but so worth it for panoramic views of the city. Rec and Parks is redoing the trails for several weeks in late summer 2016 so it may not be accessible.

A great stop as you climb Twin Peaks. Curbside parking and then up one short flight of stairs. There is an amazing view. This park is a gem. Please treat it carefully.

Tank Hill has an amazing view. You can see entire San Francisco. It’s pretty hidden so you won’t find many people on there. I really like going there.

Great view of the city; driving up was quite fun as well. San Francisco weather changes rather quickly, so expect varying weather when visiting.

Tank hill view is so much better than twin peaks and because not a lot of people know about it, the place is usually empty and without tourists.
