I went in to Sweet Olive a couple of days ago for a haircut with Jo. I'd been to the salon before and have always gotten great cuts, but the other day was really exceptional. In the last 6 months, I've lost about half the volume of my hair due to a recent change in medication. The meds are necessary, and the hair loss has been devastating. It feels vain to say, but the thinning made me so self-conscious that it was starting to significantly impact my quality of life. I booked a last minute appointment that morning in a desperate attempt to do SOMETHING that would make me feel better. During my appointment, Jo listened to my concerns and the struggles I've been having with my hair. She came up with several ideas about how to hide the thin parts and work with my features to create a cut that would feel more comfortable. She was responsive to all of my questions and for the first time in a long time, I felt like it was possible to be happy about the way my hair looked. Throughout the entire cut Jo kept me informed about what she was doing and why, and listened to my feedback. She gave me an absolutely gorgeous cut that far exceeded my expectations. I came in feeling so low about how I looked and when she was finished not only did I feel like myself again, I felt beautiful. Thanks Sweet Olive for the much needed boost and Jo, you are the best!

I have been recommended to this place because I was looking for a pixie cut. Their website says you can book via text, call, or online. I texted asking for an appointment with Andrea (the person who is supposedly a pixie specialist), and I was told to book online. So I booked the next available appointment online, which was in a month. To my disappointment I received a call days before said appointment, saying Andrea was not taking any new clients and that they were canceling my appointment. Why customer service didn’t tell me this when I first tried to book via text? Why could they not open an exception considering it was their fault? I rather support businesses that respect people’s time and value their clients. Both my interactions with their customer service were rude and rushed, so I’m happy I’m not supporting this behavior in a city as positive and vibrant such as NOLA.

The products were really good, but I came in for an extension blow out and left with hair that looked I slept on it for 3 days and was in a steam room... I called to tell the owner once left and all he said was, "Oh, sorry about that..." The sylist did not curl the ends of my hair, had to use a curling iron and left me with the most frizzy blow out I have ever had. I requested a beach wave and ended up with 1x1 sections of half curled sections and stringy ends. I was hoping this would have been a great experience for my birthday but unfortunately was the complete opposite. The female owner did take off $5 since I had clip in extensions and not semi perm ones, so that was okay but I had to go home and completely redo my hair...total let down...

Sweet Olive Salon is a great neighborhood salon. Andrea and team are top notch. Andrea has been my go-to stylist for years. She always listens to what I want and makes thoughtful recommendations when asked. I recently had a friend in from out of town who had tried a new stylist in Maryland the day before she traveled here. Once she arrived, she realized that the cut wasn't good, and she needed hair help fast. Luckily, Andrea saved the weekend and re-shaped her cut so that she could have a great time in NOLA without being self-conscious about her hair. My son was so happy with the cut Jo gave him that he was bragging about it the next day to his friends at school. This salon is great and I recommend highly!!

Got my first haircut in New Orleans from Chelsea. I was going from between chin & shoulder length to pixie for the first time and she killed it! She listened to me talk about my hair & what I was thinking I wanted, and I showed some pictures, and she understood how my hair would behave and what would look best on me. Made me feel comfortable and confident. Used some refreshing shampoo, moisturizing conditioner, & at the end some amazing smelling and feeling products for my curls. She was efficient but didn't rush, paying attention to every detail. Plus the adapted shotgun makes for a cozy and unique vibe, and they are taking every precaution with covid. I'll be back!

DO NOT book Sweet Olive for your wedding services. I schedule my hair and makeup with them months in advance and did a trial. During the trial, I was told not to worry about time and that they would make it work. A week before the wedding the salon called, insisted that my requested times wouldn't work, blamed me for my "weird wedding schedule" - (getting hair done from 12-2 for a night wedding does not seem weird to me) - and were incredible rude and unapologetic. I will now need to scramble and find a new salon a week before the wedding... the $200 I spent on a trial was totally wasted. How unprofessional and unkind.

For the first time since Feb 2020 (*because of the pandemic), I went to get my hair cut in December. I had not used this salon before, but I was visiting NOLa. First, the safety protocols could not have been clearer or more stringent. The salon was spotless, everyone masked, and my stylist (Ransom) and I were alone in a room as they cut and styled my hair. They have a great personality and spent time talking with me to understand what I wanted done. It was such a relief to get a great haircut, and I will be sure to go to this salon again next time I visit from Alabama.

I had a great haircut with Jo today! It's really hard to find a stylist that takes the time to listen and understand what you want/quirks of your hair without making you feeling rushed/pressured or judging you for not spending hours on your hair a day. I really appreciate that Jo made the experience feel very warm, relaxed and trusting and her work is very thorough and gentle. She's the first stylist that's ever has asked me if I wanted to bring my natural waves out after the cut to see how my hair would fall on an ordinary day! Will definitely be back. Thanks Jo!

Aside from the adorableness of the salon, every moment of a visit is incredible. The entire staff is welcoming and lovely, the hospitality is wonderful (complimentary wine, coffee, tea, water, beer, or a lil liquor), and gifted dressers. I most appreciate the level of thought they've put into their service offerings and their bathroom! It's a wonderful salon. Special shout out to my favorite hair dresser, McKenzie. She's knowledgeable and gifted and one to trust, especially with curly hair!

I’ve never hated my hair so much in my entire life. Worst haircut ever. I brought photographs and specifically said no razor cut. I have fine hair, and I don’t like the way it looks. She still cut it with a straight razor. I should have walked out but did not want to cause a scene. Instead I have to live with this embarrassing mess. There are always hats and wigs till it grows out. I know my hair and I was not listened to.

Best haircut I ever got! Andrea was so sweet and welcoming. I'm usually not a favorite with hairdressers because I'm not big on products and I don't wear makeup (I'm used to being told I'm ugly and should have my hair straightened and use products, do my eyebrows, usual makeover BS etc...) so I was a little timid coming in, and within 10 minutes I felt right at home. If you're a curly head you should try this place!

Yes this place is great for girls to get their hair cut. It's also a great place for guys to go as well. I've been to many different salons and barber shops on the Northshore and in New Orleans but they all just leave me feeling "Meh". Everyone here is very friendly and Andrea does amazing work. So if you're looking for a new place to get your hair cut or anything else, Sweet Olive Salon is definitely worth trying.

Made a last minute appt online with Jo for a men’s haircut. I’ve been on the road traveling for a couple months now and needed a proper cut badly plus the last one I got wasn’t that great. She fixed that and cleaned my hair up nice! Great head and neck massage during the shampoo too. I will totally come back here again if passing through NOLA in need of a cut.

If I could give more stars I would. Katie Vidrine is a DREAM of a stylist. Not only does she listen to my goals for my hair she always makes it turn out better than even I even expected. Her sweet, welcoming energy and expertise is why I keep coming back and recommending her to all my friends.

This is the only salon I’ll go to now. Jo does a great job with my hair, and they do KILLER eyebrows. Mine are super thick and Alyssa shaped them so naturally and talked me through what she was doing. The vibe is here is laid back and comfortable. Highly recommend!

I came in for a haircut, and McKenzie was my stylist. She cut my hair exactly the way that I asked for, and also recommended a great product to use on my dry hair. My hair now looks great either worn straight or wavy, and I couldn't be happier! Thanks!

My husband (whose longest hairs were maybe 4”) got his hair cut with scissors (not clippers) and it looks good, but was $60. Just seems a bit steep! Also the man at the front desk was not the most pleasant or welcoming person you ever met…

Loved my experience with my first Covid haircut. Was glad to see the staff all still wore masks. Everyone I interacted with were just as pleasant as could be. Ransom did an amazing job cutting my hair. I will definitely be back.
