"I’ve been shopping here for years"
I don't usually leave a review if I have anything negative to say, but I feel like this is important-- for your own health please do not shop here. The first few times I shopped here it was fine, accessible, took my school student cash, friendly staff, all that. Then one time I found mold on some cheese I was buying. This was the beginning of the end. I brought the item to the clerk's attention and he said it was the company that sold the cheese to them-- it wasn't a super well known brand so I was like sure that seems reasonable. Then the clerk hit on me and asked if I was single, which immediately made me feel very weird. Still, it was close and he was pretty friendly so I decided he was just a little too friendly that one time. However tonight I went with my boyfriend and we found not one, not two, but three packages of cookies that were so moldy we couldn't tell if the blue was from it or the frosting. It was grizzly. We brought them up front and the same clerk snapped at us and said it was the manufacturer not them, which was obviously a lie because this was a more well known brand and, given the store's record and his tone, wasn’t likely an issue on their end. My boyfriend said he just wanted them to know so no one would yell at him and he looked at me, said "thanks sweetheart" and then winked at me. I don't know if the wink was intentional, but I felt very weird and officially wanted to leave. We didn't want to leave without paying for SOMETHING so we (foolishly) bought a mini pie. We had checked the outside of the box and it seemed safe, we even grabbed like three back from the front! We were walking back to his dorm so we decided to unwrap and eat it on the way. The entire bottom of the tin was green with mold. We broke the pie in half and the filling was moldy too. It wasn't worth the 3 dollars we paid to ask for a refund so we threw the pie away and vowed never to return. The more we talked about it and the more we thought about it the more I felt the need to warn others. My boyfriend is SEVERELY allergic to mold, eating even a bite of that pie could have really hurt him-- luckily we checked before biting into it. For your own health, do not shop here until they can hold themselves accountable for it and make a change. If they tell you it's the manufacturer do not believe them, just leave. Fool me once shame on me, fool me twice? Shame on thee. Do not shop here. EDIT: I was discussing this review with my roommate and she wanted me to add that when she went in he asked if she was Hispanic and then went off talking about stereotypes about dating Hispanic women. Yikes.
I recently moved to San Francisco, and I often stop into Sutter FINE Foods to pick up a few items. I usually have a nice customer experience, however tonight I had a horrible experience. The new cashier was standing in the door way, smoking a disgusting smelling cigarette. I made a comment to myself, however loud enough for the cashier to hear my distain for the smoke that blew in my direction. Instead of offering an apology, the rude cashier said " Would I prefer the smell of a cigarette or weed? My response was Neither! I have no problem with people smoking, however I do find it problematic and unprofessional for a cashier to stand in the entrance of a business and smoke. His behavior tells me he doesn't value the customer. I will not pay another red cent to Sutter Fine Foods until they learn TO TREAT CUSTOMERS WITH RESPECT, REMEMBER YOU NEED OUR DOLLARS.
I personally love this place as the ultimate small town in the big city grocer! The employees try to be genuinely friendly and they have a very large variety of average and various ethnicity related foods. Their deli is amazing, but like some of my other posts.... This is not really a store for the bargain shopper as their prices are quite high, but surprisingly they do accept EBT Food Stamps. I truly love shopping there, but mostly with my Food Stamps as they are not for the lower nor really even middle class income brackets. But if you have it to spend I highly recommend spending your money at this little Fine Foods Grocer.
All perishables tend to be expired even if the date indicates otherwise.most things don't have a price tag.the bottles of soda are labeled 99 cents but somehow cost $2.99.that's a 200% price increase and the before and not including the tax.Its so overpriced that the actual owner asked me why I shopped there regularly which I thought was weird at first but looking at most other markets toward market street as well as Safeway I realized why and starting going anywhere else but here
I’ve been shopping here for years. I saw a review saying they’re expensive, but I completely disagree. I think they’ve kept their prices extremely reasonable, compared to all of the other businesses. It’s a local, family business, the kind of business I go out of my way to support. They have a large selection of everything you need, and if they don’t have it just ask and they will happily order it. This is a great market that needs more support from the neighborhood.
They charged us 30$ for two bottles of water, two bags of chips, and a bottle of rubbing alcohol. They're practicing illegal bussiness having things marked as one thing and then ringing up whatever they want as the total. They will be hearing from the better business bureau. I advise everyone to stop shopping here.
The only upside to my visit to the dog groomer nextdoor was stumbling upon this place. GREAT prices!!! Also a wide selection of groceries and spices, sauces, etc. They had everything I needed to make Pad Thai (fish sauce AND oyster sauce) and a bunch of cereal on sale for $1.99. LOVE this store!
We’ve been shopping here for years, what you can’t find at Traders, they have. A fantastic, shockingly well stocked neighborhood gem, the staff are wonderful, it’s a San Francisco treasure, writing this made me realize I need to walk over and get a pie- oh yes there are pies!
For the size of the store that has a pretty decent selection of fresh fruits and vegetables as well as a good array of every day grocery items. Surprising giving the quality of other small stores in the neighborhood that call themselves
I've started going here pretty regularly. The photos on the site aren't exaggerations -- it's pretty much exactly as tidy as it's made out to be. Decent selection of a lot of things without over specialization. Haven't tried their deli
I love having Sutter Fine Foods on my block. It was a lifesaver during COVID lockdowns and I still stop in almost every day. The whole team is friendly and helpful, the store is clean and well-stocked. I can almost always find what I'm
I don't know what's up with this place. Prices don't seem to be marked on some items. Somehow ended up paying almost $10 for something marked $6.99. 40% taxes and fees?! I wont be back.
The most EXPENSIVE store in the neighborhood.. Extremely Obnoxious rude clerk/owner. Said he was giving discounts as the two small onions I putchased should cost at
I tell ya ; this is the one. "Sutter Fine Foods" is it! Not Sutter Market down the road. "Sutter Fine Foods" has "Apple Butter" does that place down the road? …
Same experience. You're both incorrect. 12 rolls and they ain't double ply! $17.99 is joke! Don't fall for it people! Price gouging should not be tolerated!
I'd like to thank the couple who didn't buy the toilet paper and complained about the price. Thanks! I needed some toilet paper.
I purchased a $2.99 drink and was charged $4.21. I think it's too expensive.It's the worst. I don't want to go anymore.
Lots of great selection and one of the better markets in the area to pick up basic cooking supplies.
Fair prices, open until midnight, has all the essential goods
They charge a ridiculous card payment fee
