After a bad experience with a contractor, we had to finish our basement on our own. We needed a certain style of door and Sutherlands was the only place in Salt Lake and Utah County to have them in stock. We were able to get half the doors we needed, however the other half had to be special ordered. There were some manufacture delays due to various reason, so our doors got in a bit later than expected. This would've been an additional frustrating situation, however Paul and Team did all they could to make it right, even though it wasn't their fault. We were against a tight deadline and Paul was willing to have his team build a door for us if needed. Luckily all the doors ended up coming in with plenty of time. He even had our last 2 doors delivered to us, one at a time, as soon as they came in. We live about 25 minutes away. Paul and his crew showed great customer service. They went above and beyond of what's expected. My wife and are are VERY grateful for them. I DOUBT we would've received the same treatment at one of the big chains. Our experience with them has been a bright spot in a dark situation we were in. Thank you!!!

Worst experience ever! Bought a shed kit with some modifications for the doors and also thinking it was pre-cut to save me time. Rodd helped through the process of picking everything out. Upon receiving my materials I then realized that I was mislead in what type of shed I was receiving. I was going to have to cut and build everything from scratch. Then after looking into the instructions I realized he did not change out the instructions for our new door. All was for the original door. I called in and was given the instructions to "look it up online," and was given a website for a company that was not even the brand of door I was going to install! Rodd of course was not available because it was Saturday. After figuring all on our own and when it came time to paint the exterior walls we then realized they had given us the completely wrong colors!! We had gone in person to pick all of this out and they even stapled our samples with clear marks as to what colors we wanted. The colors chosen weren't even on the same sample!! Will never shop here again! Horrible customer service!

Okay so here's the real real s*** for sutherlands great selection honestly they they do have a lot of stuff that you're not going to find it The big box store or home Depot they're more of a local your local hardware store and the people there treat you like family like that too like I said everybody knows I take my dog with me everywhere and that big fuzzy guy gets to go in and they give them treats they all know who he is and some of them direct me to the isles directly with the dog's food stuff on it just so that I'll go buy dog stuff but I digress excellent location you can see it easily from the street there's like I said a fantastic selection of stuff there they can order it just about anything you need woodwise and but the the employees are and I love you guys slow as dirt and you want around for 15 minutes before you find anybody all right but other than that great store stop by and see him support your local area

It’s totally amazing this store stays in business. I’ve tried time and time again to support this store close to my neighborhood, this is the absolute last time! Tried an online order 6 pcs of Sheetrock 5 rolls of insulation 5#s of screws and five gallons of joint compound. Got a confirmation email saying they have the order and to wait for the email it was pulled. No email that day so next day around noon I called and someone finally picked up. The order had not been looked at or pulled. An hour or so later I got a email that it was ready for pick up. Get to the store to pick up and I’m told I was sent an email telling me there was no sheet rock. No such email can I find? Do yourself a favor and go to a real lumber store. Unless you want to wash your dogl that’s right you can wash you dog there. Just don’t count on buying any building related products.

I returned the shoes with a receipt they were $70 and now they're on sale 429 so I got jipped for 40 bucks what a rip off I had to return the shoes three different times the first pair was a size seven and a half when it said on the box size 10 second time my girlfriend brought me back steel toes the third time they didn't have the size so I want with a 10 and a half feel like I had clown shoes on so the fourth time I just decided just give me my cash back it's been two months I've been dealing with this and I only got three bucks and some change when it cost me over $70 for the pair of shoes don't buy shoes there I bought last time they only last a couple months you were like Payless Shoes it fell apart

Stopped at Sutherland's on North Temple this morning to show my son a Dickies Jacket and asked if he wanted one for Christmas, he tried the jacket on and said yes, we were still shopping and he had the jacket on still when we arrived at the check out, before I had a chance to talk with the checker, an older gentlemen that worked their came to the register and said in front of other customers and the checker. "Make Sure You Get The Jacket He Is Wearing". I own my own business but I would have used more tact. Made me feel like I was going to steal something. I am not a thief. He could have at least stood in the background and made sure we were paying before speaking out.

I'm always here for all my hardware needs. They carry everything I need from Lower end or Cheaper to high end and expensive. The staff is always helpful and knowledgeable about the whole store. I get my wood here, nails, screws, rain gutter stuff, they just have everything. And the garden center is pretty neat in the spring and summer with good deals on garden plants. They also still offer a big pouch of fresh popcorn for .25 cents! My boys beg to go to sutherlands with me every single time I make a run. Also the bonus card is awesome you get 2 extra bonuses for coming in on Monday's and once it is filled up, it's 10 dollars worth of sutherland bucks! Awesome!

As most know the grand junction colorado store lost their lease i was in the middle of a project and had already bought all my bath vanities sinks from sutherlands. One ended up the wrong size and thought i would have to change all the others to match but i took a chance and called the salt lake city store and they stepped up big time. gary and wayne ( managers) went over and above they shipped me the one that i needed to complete my job at no charge They did not have to do any thing it was not their problem.thanks wayne and gary your kindness and professionalism is very much appreciated.

This is my local hardware store. It's not "big box corporate" like Lowes or Home Depot. I've been going to Sutherlands for 13 years and I still recognize half the guys who work there. It's a nice change. You still can dig in a bin of screws and bolts, then go to the register with it and buy a bolt for 7 cents without a UPC or a plastic carton over the bolt. They sell local jams sometimes at the registers. Ask for the punch card. After 10 punches the card is worth $10 for using as store credit. Only 1 punch per day allowed, must buy $10 of stuff to get a punch. Monday is 3 punches day.

Amazing staff!!! 08/05/19 I delivered a load from Laredo. The 11 pallets of marbles was stacked straight on middle of my trailer and they were moved all the way to the right of my trailer when i came here opened my trailer. My trailer almost rolled over when i was u turning at back of the store. Then they unloaded me right at the docking area with a pallet jack. Thanks for the staff I appreciate your labor and helping me get out there from this problem, and thanks a lot for staff manager Mark he is very professional knows his job and what he is doing great man !!! Thank you

Never! Don't even think about it! Never make a special order at Southerlands Lumber on North Temple. I made 2 different orders The first order was incorrectly cut lumber and the second order was never delivered. After 27 days of waiting and several specious excuses (really lame excuses) the order was never delivered. Even getting a refund was unnecessarily difficult. The service desk coordinator, Paul, lied on 3 separate visits in order to cover up his forgetfulness or incompetence or both. His mockery was insulting and he clearly is a product of The Peter Principle.

Hands down best customer service with great prices!! We purchased 4 pallets of sod for the cheapest price in valley! Wayne is the BEST and communicated with me until I came to pick up our sod. He had our pallets ready for us and made sure that Ashley was informed and took great care of us being so personable! Rich was also another employee who was absolutely amazing!! From the young men that loaded our truck to every employee I past by entering the store, greeted us with a smile and welcome!! Im definitely a customer for life!!

How many people are working their? 3? Does anybody there know how to cut chain? Everything seems like it's more expensive than even Home Depot. Got tired of waiting for someone who was qualified to cut a piece of chain. This is the last straw. I've came here because it was close but I won't be coming back overpriced, understaffed. I should have been able to tell by the parking lot that this isn't the place only two stars because the one guy that was new knew where the chain was.

Sutherlands reminds you of a mom and pop store - just the size of a Lowes or Home Depot. The manager did price matching for me and I overheard him telling a customer to come back and he’d show him how to do a project and would give him a good deal on supplies. Also, the customer service from the checkout was topnotch! They were super helpful and knowledgeable about everything in the store. They even radioed in 2 guys to help me load 31 concrete pavers into my truck.

I had always assumed that Home Depot and Lowes would have cheaper prices, but after checking several products I found out this is not the case. While I've never had an amazing customer service experience here, I've never had a bad one. They have a great selection and great prices. And to the other reviewer, really zero stars just because they don't offer a military discount? I would rather they leave the prices cheap for everyone instead of giving them to a few.

My wife went by Sutherlands today and checked out the Trex they have there. She ended up getting all we needed to finish our project. Way better deal than the first place she looked! The guys there were really really great and helpful! The one guy cut the boards in half so they'd fit in her SUV. Super nice guy/kid helped her load and even saran wrapped it so it wouldn't flop everywhere! Five stars! Two thumbs way up! We will definitely come back again!

Beautiful, clean, organized hardware store. We LOVED their selection of unfinished solid wood tables, bars, stools, and islands!! Omg, they were so beautiful and well-priced.. and the wrought iron hinges & handles on the doors & drawers.. it was so Mediterranean!! I couldn't get away from that section:) But anyways, they have everything in that store, and even more lighting selection than any Home Depot I've ever been to.

As often as I shop here, I'd love to give them a better review, but often leave frustrated. It is the only bigbox type home improvement store for 5 miles, so it fills an important need. The problem is that the the store generally seems understaffed, even if the store is empty. The selection is lacking. It is fine for simple projects, but if you need higher quality or something very specialized, you may be out of luck.

I absolutely love this place,with not alot of options where I live I can usually find almost anything I need with this one stop shopping . Employees are very knowledgeable of their merchandise and are very helpful in answering your questions. Store is always clean and organized and you always get a warm welcome when you walk through the door. I would recommend anyone to shop here.

Gonna be honest, there's never enough staff on hand. It's a small, slow paced store. Only 10 customers at a time in average, and 2 people working. But the people who are working are usually friendly and try to be helpful. Convenient for a quick fix, but limited selection. So if you have a real project, do yourself a favor and go to Home Depot on 2100 South.

Me and my husband love Sutherland!! So does our fur baby he loves the treats they give at the door , the wash for dogs is awesome .They provide you with towels, shampoo &’ aprons so you won’t get yourself wet. Not to mention only 9$ !!Customer service is A1 and everyone is so friendly I strongly recommend here for your tool and pet wash needs :)

Very helpful employees. Very good with returns. This is my go to Hardware / lumber store. The employees are very helpful and have no problem taking back something if it doesn't work out. It's a little out of the way but it is worth the trip. Even if they have to refer you to somewhere else they are willing to do what it takes to help you.

Someone recommended that I try here instead of other home improvement stores but that was a mistake. Pricing was similar but the building is falling apart, no one to help, the wood was warped and twisted beyond anything I have seen before. It felt sketchy being there and there was only like 3 other customers on a Saturday. Won’t be back.

Bought 2 pair of jeans for 17 bucks and realized this place is pretty great. Love the old time Candy section by the registers. Really like the bargain section and you can get a bunch of hardware while your here. Well done. Great Home Improvement store with everything you need and have at the big box stores. Very nice indoor nursery with plenty of outdoor figurines and they are on sale right now. And look the even have wooden bars, dressers, and kitchen carts/islands. In addition they also have leather couches and chairs, bonus shopping experience

A few weeks ago, all your employees were really good about wearing masks and social distancing. I was sad to see today employees with no masks, or wearing them down around their chins. Corona isn't gone in Utah! In fact, this week we've been breaking records in new cases! Please keep being careful to protect our neighborhood.

My twin bed platform for my truck camper busted in half so I needed to make a new one. The customer service in the project department was nothing but helpful. They even cut the plywood for me according to the specs I needed for free. I'd highly recommend coming here and plus you're supporting a local business.

If you want to shop in a hardware store that employees people who know what they are doing, look no further. They have a significant selection of BBQ and Grilling supplies. Their lumber is higher quality than HD or Lowes every time I have checked. The people are friendly and knowledgeable.

Different selection from the other lumber stores and a whole different atmosphere. I have always found the prices to be at least competitive and usually much better. Tuesdays they offer 10% discount to seniors which is nice. I live by Lowes and Home Depot and I still travel to shop here.

It's alright... Higher price's than other "hardware" stores and no military discount along with store hours are the negatives. But on the plus side... They have employees who are knowledgeable about what they sell and unique choices of products that you can't find anywhere else

It's OK, I prefer home depot but I will say this sutherlands isles are wide and clean well organized and easy to shop. I don't care for the tool area it's very inconvenient that they don't have tape measures around the store for measuring things unless you go over and buy it.

Used to love coming here but we're abruptly met by locked doors going to the garden section at 4:20 in the afternoon. We felt like we were being pushed out when they don't close close for another 40 minutes at 5pm. Tried talking to the cashier about it and all she was "yeah".

Mind = BLOWN! I'm scratching my head trying to figure out how I've lived so long without ever knowing about this amazing store. They have better products and better prices than any other hardware stores. It's my new go-to store. Also - It's 5 minutes from Downtown SLC.

This is our preferred home improvement store. Everyone there is helpful and knowledgeable with a willingness to help you succeed with your projects. Small to large projects we know we can get great advice from employees such as Mike and the others who work there.

Wayne at this store is amazing ! we had a horrible incident with Gary. We called to ask if they had a specific product in stock. He was rude and not friendly at all. Seemed annoyed at the fact he had to speak with us. Desperately needs customer service training.

This store leaves their Muzak BLARING outside ALL NIGHT EVERY NIGHT and it's so disruptive and rude. We can't have any peace and quiet. Show some respect for your unfortunate neighbors. I can hear it in my living room constantly unless I shut my windows. -_-

Located conveniently near downtown Salt Lake City. The prices are comparable to other home improvement/lumber stores in the area. The inventory is similar. They do have some unique seasonal and outdoor items. The staff is always helpful and friendly.

I honestly don't know how Sutherlands even stays in business. They never what I'm looking for, and none of the employees are willing or able to help with anything. I try to support local businesses, but Sutherlands is making it really difficult!

Looking for a specific item. Asked two cashiers and was told isle 5, 10, or 11. It was on isle 7. Despite the fact I was informed that they didn't carry the item, I will be back. Next time I will ask someone over the age of 21 for help.

Place is kind of a mess and prices are a bit more than other box stores but the workers were friendly and they have a diverse and eclectic selection of products. Gonna start shopping here regularly over other big box hardware stores.

I always love going to Sutherlands. It's a hardware/lumber store I feel comFortable at. There is someone always to help or they leave me alone when I must look like I know what I'm doing. Great plants, great prices, great specials.

Nice store to browse.. saw excellent tomato plants, also got a wheel barrow while there. Didn't have one unassembled and waived the 10 dollar fee for assembly. Made a difference in buying it on the spot. Great staff there.

Building a home misting system. The staff there was AMAZING! They helped me get the right pieces I needed to complete the project. And the misting system....I will just say the neighbors are jealous. Thank you Sutherlands!

I went there to get help remodeling my Kitchen and Dining Room no one there had a clue nor would they help me except for one guy for about 1 minute I have a credit card there i am going to Shred it and go to Home Depot

This store has improved by ten folds. You can tell the new manager takes pride in his store and truly cares for his customers. It's nice to see a manager interact with the customers and make sure they are satisfied.

They offer some reasonable quality items (such as tile) at low prices--possibly at low quality as well, so be sure you know what you are buying. They usually have a good variety of products in stock.

I hate going to this store. There is never employees around. When you do find someone they are a cashier or a stocking person. No one ever knows anything about anything. I will not be returning.

This is my favorite hardware store. They have the friendliest staff anywhere. The selection is awesome. You can get just about anything; from just a single bolt to a whole sheet of drywall.

This place always has basic home improvement supplies on hand, a dollar section, and beautiful plants during summer. I always go here first. More personal service than Home Depot and Lowes.

Wayne the manager has made this store awesome. He has this place staffed with knowledgeable employees all always willing to assist. They all greet you and are more than willing to help.

Buy a tool that doesn't do the job intended? Take it back, there is a minimum of hassle when returning an item and many times the correct item can be shown by knowledgeable personnel.

We are in the middle of a small project and have to keep going back. The were a little short staffed, but always friendly. A little bit more staff in the tool department would help.

Great locally owned hardware store than competes quite well with the big box stores. They have military discount for veterans. They also have a self service dog wash here.

Great selection of PVC fittings. Lots of employees available to help. Asked about how much a plant was and got more than 50% off so they could make room in the greenhouse!

Large store with huge selection of all kinds of home improvement items. New remodeling looks good. Checkout kiosks and line formation is confusing and needs clarification.

This store is a pure gem. Some of the people there have been there for 30 years. Stores like this are very hard to find, with excellent pricing and exceptional service.

Disappointing. They think that people only need 1/4 " in the summer for use with air conditioning. And the worker we talked to didn't have a clue.
