"Absolutely the best, no doubt about it! Before St John's Auto, I'd taken my '96 Suburban to four different mechanics for a coolant leak, and I got BS responses ranging from "don't worry about it it's not a real issue" to having unrelated parts replaced without consulting me and then charging me for it! When I took the truck to St John's Auto, all my problems were solved! There was no BS"
"Hands down this is the place to go"
"DO NOT Trust this Shop they Will Not Guarantee there Work!! They did work on my friends car that I decided to buy from her just a couple of weeks after the work"
"The only reason I did not give 5 stars is because I never actually got work done here, but these guys are good, honest mechanics"
"I've been using St John's Auto Center for almost 10 years and have found their work to be 100% quality, their communications an A+ (no surprises from these folks), and their overall customer service is awesome"
Absolutely the best, no doubt about it! There was no BS. Troy listened to me when I told him what I thought the problem was, actually opened up the engine to make an accurate diagnosis, followed up with me and made sure the fix was what I wanted, then he did it! His team went the extra mile and showed me the leaking intake manifold (it's a miracle the truck was even running, hah) and Troy fixed a broken hose free of charge. I couldn't be happier with the truck now ready for a cross-country trip. These guys care about your vehicle and your wallet as much as you do. And the amount of respect and kindness they show you is unmatched in the industry. Thanks, St John's Auto!!
Hands down this is the place to go. Had family who referred us and now I understand why. My wife and I, like many people, avoid going to mechanics to save money. We took our Pontiac in because we thought we were in need of new brakes and belts. We also asked them to look at a window issue and for any other maintenance items that we should have done to prolong the life of the car. We made an appointment and when all was said and done, nothing needed to be done! I've always felt vulnerable bringing in cars to mechanics because I know so little that it'd be easy for them to take advantage. But the folks looked everything over and were honest about not needing anything to be done. I've never heard of a mechanic doing this before! As I said before, my family has taken their cars to this place and have been raving about it. Now I will be too. They are cheap, honest, and good at what they do----the best combinations of any good business!
DO NOT Trust this Shop they Will Not Guarantee there Work!! They did work on my friends car that I decided to buy from her just a couple of weeks after the work. They said that they needed to replace the rotors, & the right axle because the boot was damaged. Before we were to finalize the sale we took the car to our mechanic to check it out & found that the axle/boot were not put in correctly! It was taken back to them & they argued that it was going to fall apart & then need the drive train rebuilt. So we went back to our mechanic who said that there was NO WAY!! We went back in to St. Johns's Auto Center today & all they wanted to do was yell at us & insist that the bearings were going to fall out & the drive train would have to be rebuilt!! DO NOT Trust this Shop they Will Not Guarantee there Work!!!
The only reason I did not give 5 stars is because I never actually got work done here, but these guys are good, honest mechanics. First, Dan referred me to a different shop because he couldn't service my car for a week, which shows he cares about the customer. Then, he held onto my keys for the tow truck while I went to work. After receiving a high quote from the Madison, Dan was willing to give me a quote while my car was at Madison's shop, and beat it. He is also willing to install your parts if you want to bring them in. This is a straightforward, honest shop to which I will bring all my future work.
I've been using St John's Auto Center for almost 10 years and have found their work to be 100% quality, their communications an A+ (no surprises from these folks), and their overall customer service is awesome. They have squeezed my cars in for a quick diagnosis and quote, so I can decided how to proceed. They were patient, allowing my car to sit in their lot for days and days as I gathered up the cash so they could start the repairs. Time and time again they have earned my loyalty as a customer by simply being themselves. They make loyal and new customers the old fashioned way, they EARN IT!
I called this shop at 5pm on a Friday after noticing my car was leaking oil on my way home from work. Dan told me to bring it right in, even though I'd never been here before. So I drove down the street and they got it fixed up right away! Turns out, when I got my oil changed at a different location (just down the road from these guys) a couple of weeks ago they forgot to tighten the oil filter all the way...ugh! Thank you St. John's Auto Center for helping me out last minute on a Friday evening! I will DEFINITELY be doing my oil change here from now on. I can't recommend these guys enough!
It's like I've had my own pit crew. Love these guys. Bought a Nissan Sentra from them 11 years ago. I never go any where else. Always had car repaired here, oil changes, too. Spouse brings van here. Honest. Reliable. Busy: so call ahead for appointment and a quick phone consult with Troy or Dan. They only occasionally have cars for sale, but like me, you may get lucky. I don't drive a lot so I still have that same car.
I've taken my Red 2001 jette to these guys twice now and they are just great. Everyone I've talked to have been friendly and helpful. They always take the time to explain what the problem is and how it should be fixed before doing anything. I truly appricate their honesty and thorough work. I also have to say that their prices are fair, I never felt like they were trying to overpriced me. Thank you guys!
I absolutely love these guys. Troy is so helpful and kind. These men are patient if you don't really know what is going on with your car. And if you do? Even better! These guys are so skilled and won't charge you for what you dont need. You never have to worry about if they are charging you for something you don't need. I trust these guys completely. If I could give them ten stars I would.
They got the car running, but returned the wrong alternator as a core to the parts supplier (I had the correct alternator core in back seat, and needed to return the defective one in the car). When I called to remind them of this, they politely explained that there was nothing they could do. I appreciated the attitude, but am still out a couple hundred bucks for the alternator.
These guys came highly recommended as an honest auto shop and they were right. We had some maintenance done as well as couldn't get the electric doors to open which turned out to be a switch. They could have run us through the ringer because we had no idea, but they didn't. They are super friendly and the service was very quick.
These guys are wonderful they took their time they did quality work and they got the job done in a good amount of time for a reasonable price they fixed my Chrysler 300 and I'm so happy I'm just so happy definitely would refer people to them and I definitely will go there again thank you Saint John's Auto center I love you guys
I live in the area, and shopped around. These guys impressed me. The prices were fair, the work was done well, they never tried to oversell me or try any shenanigens. My friend(woman) called them and was impressed that they didn't talk down to her or assume she didn't know anything. I'd recommend them. They seem fair, and nice.
Troy and Dan are great mechanics and men of integrity. Fixed an annoying electrical problem on my Mazda for a reasonable price. Clear communication throughout, and did exactly what they said they would. Even got a great sense of humor. If I have need for a mechanic again, I'll be back.
Excellent, honest, quality service. I've dropped my car off after it being broke down over the weekend on two occasions and it was promptly fixed even without an appointment. They are friendly and do honest, good work, won't be taking any of my cars anywhere else in town.
Great service. The cost of the repair was very reasonable. My check engine light was on & they identified the problem & solved the issue. My car passed the DEQ inspection a few days later. Troy explained the service that needed to be done & was very helpful.
Troy is very helpful and offers information freely. I like that he offers suggestions for better aftermarket parts and let's me buy them and bring them in and only charge me for labor and incidentals. I bring all my cars to him now for the last 3 years.
Really quick! My Acura had its check engine light come on, and while it took a few weeks to get in, I was in and out in one day and <$300 which is awesome given how old my car is. Would recommend and definitely going back for my oil change.
Absolutely loved this place. First time user and I found Troy to be honest and great to work with. He found and fixed an unexpected issue with the electrical line of my tow hitch at a very reasonable price. This is a place you can trust.
I've been bringing my Honda to St. John's Auto for years since I moved to Portland and have never had a complaint. Troy is the best, reasonable prices and no pressure. I would definitely recommend St Johns Auto for all your car repairs.
St. John's Auto Center provided a very friendly and professional experience. Very respectful staff paid attention to what I asked and executed the repairs on time and for a very reasonable price. Highly recommend this local repair shop.
Great place! Honest and trustworthy. I asked for an all-over check of a car that I'm giving away and they said it was in good shape. Only needed headlights fixed and I already knew about that. I will be a customer for life.
One of the best places in N.Portland/St.Johns. honest good people. They have treated me well and taken care of my car needs with honest up front prices. If I dont need it done they will check and reassure me.
An honest to goodness trustworthy mechanic in the big city. Wasn't up-sold, overcharged or told that I needed elaborate repairs that I didn't need. I would definitely recommend St John's Automotive!
This is that mechanic shop you have been searching for. Honest as the day is long and very friendly. I found them about 10 years ago and will never go anywhere else. Try them, you won't regret it.
Reliable, trustworthy service at reasonable prices. Troy is especially helpful, honest, and worked diligently with me to fix up my car after it was stolen and damaged. Definitely recommended!
They were really awesome gave me turn by turn directions also stayed open late on a Friday and make sure I had the pieces I needed to fix the transmission and sent me on my way 10 out of 10
Definitely quality service, and fair pricing. I exclusively go there for both of the family vehicles and always walk away with a good experience.
I called with questions and the person on the phone was very helpful. Took his time to explain and gave references of other places as well.
You couldn't ask for a better mechanic in Portland. Fair pricing, good communication and fast. I'll always bring my cars to St. Johns.
St John's Auto Center took very good care of my Impreza. I'll be taking it back for any repairs and questions I have in the future.
Super reliable automotive repair shop! Extremely trustworthy and candid about what is needed and what is not needed for repairs!
Was up front HONEST and informative about what was going on with my truck. And cheaper than other places for same work.
Prices Are Very Top End but That's About The Only Thing Top End Unfortunately & I Really Used to Like This Place a Lot
Excellent!!! work in a timely manner. Terrific people who go the extra distance. My T100 has never worked as well.
Troy is straight up thorough and repairs things right...old school that's the reason I keep going back. DIRK
Troy and Doug took care of some hard to access tail and brake lights in a very efficient manor. Thank you!

Awesome service at incredibly fair prices. This is our new auto repair/maintenance place! Thanks Troy!
I completely trust these guys, Troy and Dave are really good at what they do. No frills auto shop.
Very honest! Advised me that i did not need brakes. Jiffy lube told my wife that she needed them.
This is by far the best place to go in North Portland. Honest and the prices match the work.
Honest and straightforward. Everything you want in a mechanic. Troy was great
