We stayed in the George Kessler tonight and while it does have some great attributes cute interior, large tub, fireplace it just missed the mark. We had record low temps and slick roads and of course we couldn’t reschedule without a hefty fee despite inclement weather across the region. We got in late in the evening and looked at the menus for the area (a nice option, but menus are not current and we’re incorrect we specifically chose rye because they had my favorite dish to get there and it not actually be offered anymore along with several others). We returned to find a large hole in the fitted sheet and the matches wouldn’t light against the dispenser they were in it seemed others had trouble as several matches looked like they had tried to be striked and the lip of the fireplace looked like someone had tried to there as well. The bed was VERY firm for our liking and the room was SO bright from the lights it was difficult to sleep even with the blinds closed it needs better blinds or darker curtains. The window against the bed was also very drafty and the snow was not cleared well from the very limited parking. The toilet roll holder also completely fell off the wall and onto my foot taking a bit of skin with it. All in all it had the opportunity to be great but was just ok.

This is a lovey place but extremely pricey for what you get. Finding parking for a midsized car was extremely difficult. There was nothing offered for breakfast other than coffee. One would think, considering the price of the accommodations, that there would be, at the very least, a variety of sweet rolls or something similar. I believe if you’re going to spend this amount of money for a room ($786.00 for three nights) that there would be a continental breakfast included. Also surprising was the added cleaning fee. This is a hotel after all.Why is there a cleaning fee? My room was very small and hot. You do not have the ability to control the temperature in your room. My room was too hot and the room my Daughter occupied was too cold. The lighting in my bathroom was so dim it was difficult to apply my makeup. The tub did not drain well and the toilet was the perfect size for a child. The fan in my Daughters bathroom was connected to the light switch. It was noisy and could not be turned off without turning the light off. Was it worth the price??? I don’t think so!!!

Smelly water outside. Employee cold. No personal contact. No breakfast, afternoon or evening snacks. Decorating did not fit house. Skeleton crew you don't see. No pets .. can't leave room bate footed to look in parlor. Tea and coffee you get yourself in drab dining room. Over priced for No reason. Ugly crowded neighborhood with lumpy sidewalks that are uneven. Photo shopped so it looks like it is spacious. No reason to go there. Beware. Look up a definition of a boutique hotel before you go. Dull .. poorly escorted. And the one staff person argues with you about how great they are. It's a empty house you crash in.lookes like it could have been an old frathouse. Don't let them snow you. But ..cafe trio had great food and had employees with personality if you can get there walking without tripping down the hill and get thru the smell in the sewer. Never. Never never again. Flim flam.

Stay here! We had such a lovely weekend at the Southmoreland on the Plaza. Location is everything and this place is walking distance to Country Club Plaza and the art museums. Self check-in was a breeze! The rooms were immaculate as were the common areas. We spent a lot of time sitting in the enclosed patio area because it was so lovely. There are two things to note: 1. There are only stairs, no elevator. 2. Parking is VERY tight. It would be impossible to park a large SUV or truck in their parking lot (though there is some street parking available). We've stayed at the sister property, the Oak Street Mansion, in the past. We will absolutely stay at either place the next time we are in Kansas City.

Super cute rooms, the common spaces were beautiful although we didn't really use them for our short stay. Parking was easy for my compact car in the back lot, I could see a bigger vehicle having trouble. We were able to walk into town pretty easily for dinner. We checked in with a code provided with our reservation so we didn't interact with any staff during our stay. The shower was difficult to figure out how to turn on but got hot easily and had good pressure. They provide robes which is very thoughtful. I also like that they have a black towel for people who wear makeup, they had a lot of small thoughtful touches. I wish they had more rooms with two smaller beds as I was travelling with family but we made it work with a shared king, the bed was huge so it was fine. Our room also had a lovely balcony.

This is a quaint spot with individual rooms for rent. My son and I stayed a couple of nights and it was perfect for us. Just the right size room although others might have found it to be tiny. We were on the 3rd floor which was a bummer but the price we paid was worth it. The parking lot in the back is tiny, really tiny. If you have an oversized vehicle don't even try to come back there. It's best to use street parking. When the parking lot is full, you may have to back all the way out since turning around may not be possible. Overall, this was great a great visit for us. You can't beat the location. It's close to tons of stuff.

Stayed at Southmoreland on the Plaza recently and it was my first time at a bed & breakfast-style lodging. The house was in a great location and the rooms were perfectly cozy, it felt like I was home. We ran into a few other guests one day and everyone was very friendly. I want to try out a few of the other room options as I'm sure they are just as comfortable. Oh, and the bed was the most comfortable bed I've slept in. We even reached out to the team and asked which mattresses and bedding they used so we can replicate it at home. Definitely recommend staying here!

Gorgeous historical home turned into a peaceful safe haven in a great location! City life is walking distance but you wouldn’t know it from the quiet and calm. The common areas were stunning, relaxing, and adorable. The attention to detail with the provided notes, a binder with all the information you could need and want, the availability of glassware, the extras in the room should you be too warm or cold, and the his/her robes were above and beyond. The ambiance was lovely and welcoming. It would be an absolute shame to miss out on such a unique and special experience! Ten stars! ✨

My husband and I booked a room here last minute when we ended up in KC unexpectedly. The location is perfect for walking to the Plaza! The room we had was spacious with a comfortable bed. There was a fireplace, but no matches or lighter on hand to light it. The jacuzzi tub was relaxing. Since it’s an old house, the walls and floors are pretty thin, making for quite a bit of noise when other guests were walking above us or talking on the landing. Other than that, our short stay was wonderful and we would recommend it!

We were in town for a 17U basketball tournament and the entire team and their families stayed at the Southmoreland. It was perfect for our needs. Very clean and well appointed. Every little detail was noted. Because we booked the entire house, we were able to use the kitchen to cook and feed our crew. Perfect set up. Plenty of room to be together, with the privacy of our comfy rooms when we wanted to get away. Location was ideal. Emily and Justin were very responsive & helpful for our needs. Highly recommend.

I stayed at Southmoreland after coming home from a very long trip, and it was such a nice respite. This beautifully decorated home feels so cozy, and all of the little things were thought of. I love to the back patio with the fountain and the parlor with the fireplace is like a scene from a movie in the evenings. I will definitely be back and highly recommend this place to everyone!

We loved our staycation weekend at Southmoreland! Our room was spacious, the bed was super comfortable, and we loved the jacuzzi tub in the bathroom. You can’t beat the ambiance at Southmoreland, it has a very warm inviting feel. It was so nice to sit out on the beautiful courtyard for a glass of wine before a short walk over to the plaza for dinner. Highly recommend a stay here

Well for starters the property is stunning. Very well maintained and very tastefully decorated. Modern where it counts but largely original. Room was luxurious, spacious, and super clean! Bed was Amazing!! We did Not want to get up. For us, the only thing we would change is the check out time...10am... Noon would be much better as we would have easily slept till 10 in that bed. 10 out of 10 Highly Recommend! Would and Will stay again!!

We had an excellent stay recently as part of a romantic road trip. Very quaint, cozy, great bed. The location was very walking friendly. We try not to stay at too many chains so this independent location was very appealing. Easy check in and checkout. 5 stars

Very disappointing. The house is still beautiful and the location is still great, but the experience was much worse than my previous stay. No breakfast. No staff on site. Broken coffee maker. Room too hot and no way to adjust temperature. Seemed very pricey for the experience that we received. Won’t be going back.
Room was very comfortable, clean, quiet, and the jacuzzi tub relaxing. It is an easy walk to the Plaza restaurants and art museums. It is self-service which is nice if you are not wanting extra amenities or crowds.

My husband and I came to Kansas City for a show at The Levee and the location of the hotel was perfect! Walking distance to The Levee, the Nelson museum of art and additional cool attractions Kansas City has to offer. Prior to our arrival I
Beautiful place. They had good breakfast every morning. The outdoor area was beautiful and lots of areas to sit at. It was very quiet. Downside was the bathroom was small but we got a small room, and a man walked into our room but we forgot
We had three lovely nights at this inn and were thoroughly impressed! Elegant but still makes you feel right at home. Bed was very comfortable and we enjoyed the veranda especially with all its windows over-looking the patio and manicured
This B and B is awesome. The interior and exterior design is on point. It's a relaxing, quaint getaway. There are private balconies attached to some rooms and the happy hour is fabulous. My husband booked it as a surprise, and surprised I
We were excited to try Southmoreland this weekend, but we were so disappointed with our experience. Poor parking (parking lot behind the house was difficult to maneuver), lack of amenities, no staff on hand, poor noise insulation between
The room was dirty. It seems like the floors weren't vacuumed in awhile. Jacuzzi was dirty no hot water. We have stayed here multiple of times in the past. It was our favorite spot and our get away place. Unfortunately, it's sad but the
Had a wonderful time there during my business trip to Kansas City last week. I stayed in the August Meyer room, and it was very quiet and comfortable, so much so that I slept through a couple of thunderstorms and a tornado, as it passed
What a lovely place the Southmoreland is! My wife and I stayed for 2 days and 3 nights at the beginning of our winter holiday break. What a great way to get things kicked off. I felt like I was transported back to a more civilized and
Had an awesome stay here and will definitely look forward to staying here in the future again when I visit KC! Beautiful gem of a hotel, such nice patio and common areas and close walk to the art museum. Thank you! More
Overall, we enjoyed our 1 night stay in the August Meyer room for our 14th year anniversary. I will provide some feedback from our experience.
