My stepfather recently passed away and based on the reviews I chose South Calgary Funeral Centre to help my mother and I with the arrangements. Since I live in BC, I flew to Calgary, when I arrived home we drove straight to the Funeral Home. I was not really thinking about covid and that I should make an appointment, so we just walked in. Instead of turning us away because we did not have an appointment, they took us into their conference room and had the Funeral Director Michael meet with us. My mother was very distraught about her husband being in the hospital morgue, so Michael even before we signed anything, said he would make the arrangements to bring him to the Funeral Home. He said if we were comfortable with it he could send the necessary documents via email and we could use Docusign to sign everything. This made the process so fast and efficient, without having to make multiple trips to the Funeral Home, which would have been more taxing on my mother. Michael called us a couple hours later that day to say they had transfer my stepfather from the hospital to Funeral Home. The level of stress lifted off my mom just by that simple act was amazing. The level of care and professionalism was amazing through the whole process. Everyone I dealt with from Michael, the Funeral Director, Shannon the Office Coordinator, and Stacey the Family Service Advisor were all so compassionate and efficient.This is never an easy time for a family but dealing with South Calgary Funeral Centre certainly made a sad event more bearable.

Our funeral package was purchased through an insurance plan many years ago and the burial and service were supposed to be free, when it came time to provide the services we felt nickel and dimed. Information regarding cost was not provided up front causing us to have to change our plans at the last minute or we would have incurred costs for in house food and services. We were not told up front about extra cost for additional personnel that would be required on the day of the service. We were told at our original meeting that flowers were included and later told we would have to pay for them. This is a large amount of misinformation at a time when you want things to go smoothly. Not only were we faced with unexpected costs we were put out with having to find a new location for our reception a week before the service or pay extra. These charges would have been easier to swallow if they had been up front with us. I strongly recommend that if you are forced to go here because of a prepaid plan you get all the cost details in writing prior to making your arrangements. We felt like things were changed many times and it is hard to not feel like you are being taken advantage of when this happens. It is like being forced to buy popcorn for $8 dollars at the movie theater and told that if you sit in the back ten rows you will be charged a premium for the seats after you already bought your ticket that was supposed to be all inclusive.

In Jan of 2016 my brother died - due to extenuating circumstances I was thrust into the responsibility of ensuring he was given the respect in death that his ‘friends & s/o’ didn’t give him in life. I contacted Brett Watson -having known he was ‘in the business’ because I didn’t know what to do; I only knew I didn’t want my brothers remains left unclaimed at the morgue. He and his team were respectful, tactful, kind without pandering and patient. Furthermore the suggestion of a couple of options to memorialize my brother, that could be done and then actioned later (getting a fingerprint if we wanted to have it on a piece of jewelry) was helpful because I really didn’t know what our Mum and sister would want to do; I only knew once he was cremated we wouldn’t have that option. Knowing what I didn’t know to ask and helping me find the answers I needed was indeed rare in any form of customer service. Thanx, Brett. I believe part of your handling of the situation is one reason my son’s wife started the program at Mount Royal — only hope she can finish due to the ’Covid-19’ interruption. I have been meaning to post this for a while but it keeps slipping my mind! Finally getting to it now. I have nothing but good things to say about this place. In December 2021, my son was born premature and passed away. We called multiple places to see if we could do a little family-only service for our son and have him cremated. No other place got back to us except for this one. Because our son was a baby when he passed, we got the service and the cremation free of charge which was such a huge blessing to us! We only paid for the urn. They treated us with nothing but love and kindness, and our tiny son was so well taken care of when he was there. I am so grateful that we were treated so well here, even though we pretty much got everything free of charge. It was a huge blessing in a time of immense grief. I highly recommend South Calgary Funeral Centre and Crematorium and am so happy this was where we ended up in an extremely trying time for our family.

They help you through every step with loving kindness & loads of empathy!!!! Update 20/12/29: I forgot to Thank everyone! The professionalism was my first impression with the staff, exceptional cleanliness of the facility. I was very fortunate to have Stacey S. care. (My heart was very broken when my mother died. My world died because there were no siblings. I thought I was prepared, & it blew up my face)! I was treated with kid gloves even though I didn't have much money at the time. They guided me to the right places to get things done. I cannot express "loudly enough" the kindness given to me!!! The staff walk a very fine line of empathy, sympathy along with Psychlogical knowledge when dealing with trauma. My heart is filled up with love because I felt that here. And YES, I will never forget my experience. And YES, I will definitely come back in the future. THANK YOU VERY MUCH, EVERYONE !!!!

My experience with South Calgary Funeral Centre and Crematorium was positive. During a time when you are dealing with the death of a loved one, they took the time to explain every step that needed to be taken with so much care for the survivors. They walked you through every step and offered only the information you needed and left all decisions up to the bereaved. I was treated with such sincere respect for my feelings of bereavement as were my family members who were with me. If asked, I would most favourably recommend them. I would also like to thank them publicly for their care and attention to my deceased husband, for my family and myself.

I was very pleased & pleasantly surprised how well everything went. All the staff, I encountered while arranging my mother's funeral, were excellent. I felt no pressure at all to buy anything we couldn't afford or didn't want. They just let us know what was available and that was that. The steps up to the day went seamless and the funeral was done very well and safely. We had a few people who needed to avoid contact but it wasn't an issue. Chairs were set up in groups of 2,3 & 4 so you could choose your space. With a very emotional day, I didn't have to worry about a thing. Thank you to all involved!

The entire experience gave us a feeling of peace. Right from the beginning we knew that we had nothing to worry about. All of our questions were answered and our wishes were taken care of. The staff was gracious and did not rush anything but rather allowed us to process the situation and the decisions we had to make. It honestly was like dealing with a friend who said "relax, I will take care of everything, you have nothing to worry about!" Also, we wanted to stress how impressed we were with the exceptional job done to make my Father look so peaceful and as natural as possible. Thank you so much!

As a pastor I have had the opportunity to work with numerous funeral homes; trust me when I say they aren't all the same. Dealing with the South Calgary Funeral Center after the recent passing of my father was a very positive experience in a difficult time. They were helpful, sincere, compassionate, and very reasonably priced as they walked my mom through all of the details and paperwork that follow a death. Prior to my moms passing, I was fortunate enough to have the time to interview funeral homes. I attended 5 different facilities and ended up with this one for one reason: They were honest. They didn't try to up-sell me, trick me into viewing caskets etc. They were above board, kind and generous with their time. While I have not had to utilize their services since, I have suggested them to others. Everyone else has had the same exceptional experience. I would strongly suggest using this facility if you are needed of a vendor.

I was very happy with the way the staff at the South Calgary Funeral Centre handled everything with the passing of my Father. They were always there to answer my calls, walked me through the process and gave me all of my options and explained them thoroughly. Their care and sincerity was evident and made a very difficult time as easy on myself and my family as possible.

I had a very positive,very helpful and very sympathetic experience with South Calgary Funeral Center and in making my husband’s wish.I felt that he was cared for with utmost dignity.The process was smooth until my husband’s ashes were delivered to me as he wanted.Everyone I dealt with were helpful.When I was falling apart,the Staff put me together.

My mom had purchased her cremation 20 years ago with the First Memorial Society. This made the whole process so easy for us. With Covid we were able to do everything online.The staff were quick to answer questions and so pleasant and friendly. They did a good job when it came to the service for my mom. However, it appeared to me that the Will was not honored with the co-executors. The discussion right from the beginning was directed to one individual. Brought it to the attention of the director and it felt like it was not a consideration and was more or less patronized.

My loved one passed away in another province from which I reside. I contacted a funeral home in Saskatoon that we had used prior for my moms funeral. They immediately forwarded my contact information to one of their sister funeral homes in Calgary South Calgary Funeral Center there I was provided exceptional service.

Mom's funeral was done with respect and dignity at South Calgary Funeral Centre. We have lots of appreciation for how we were looked after in our loss especially in this time of pandemic and restrictions. Staff tried their best to accommodate our all needs with respect. This is the only way we would have done it.

Very kind and caring people at this funeral home. Took such good care of my mother and made us feel very comfortable with everything that had to be done. Also, so relieved when they explained all that has to be done and which you do not think about, after a loved one passes and all that they do for you.
