Commonly confused with Spring Park, which is down the road on The Kent Gateway or 'The Mad Mile', Shirley Church Recreation Ground has a playground, tennis courts and a council bowling green, which is serviced from the road named Spring Park, and used by two bowls clubs Shirley Ladies and Spring Park Shirley Bowling Club. The Park features a large field, many ancient trees and a subterranean river along the area the locals call The Dip which can make it rather muddy down there if it rains a lot. Another key feature is the anti-gispy mound which surrounds the park and is used by children to bike along. A favourite for walking the dogs, the park gets really busy just after school and on weekends. On Saturday mornings the whole field is taken over by a football club. The park was brought by Croydon Council in 1928 after successful campaigning from St John's Church and the local community for a green open space. Croydon Council runs the park, and the tennis courts must be booked online through BETTER.org.uk the website does state that there is a netball and basketball court, but this is not the case. The only downside, is the fact the park is unsafe at night due to antisocial behaviour.

A lovely walking place for people with dogs. It's a joy to meet other people on the Recreation Ground. There is a bowls club there too, behind the hedge, "Spring Park Shirley Bowls Club." The people that go there are a really friendly bunch. They maintain the flowers in there so well - it's beautiful to see in the Spring and Summer.

Delightful small local park, popular with all age groups. Good children's playground, tennis court and excellent bowling green and club. Could do with the tennis court tidying up plus an extra bench or two which would make it 4 star.

Nice walking places nearby. Once you get familiar with the area you can make your own walk. Tram stops well location so make use of them to go into Croydon, Beckenham, Wimbledon or addington

A great open space used by families, dog walkers, kids playing football. Has a good, safe and enclosed swing park. Tennis courts are being refurbished and upgraded.

Nice quiet park, good for running around in on grass for kids and good play area, but beware dog poo on paths, lots of it sadly, nothing new there.

It's a small gated park with swings, slides and climbing frame. Large green space outside and has tennis court too so that's a plus.
