I do not know the name of the bartender but I have to say, I went here for the first time today so obviously didn't know the "protocol" of ID at the front, etc. I'm 6 months pregnant and was just meeting friends, stopped for a cookout milkshake on the way so I had something to drink while they sipped their beers. There were very few tables with patrons when I walked in. I walked in and looked at my people, but the guy at the front sort of looked at me funny. I didn't realize he was waiting on my ID (which I had left in the car because my husband was already sitting down with his wallet and I knew I wouldn't be drinking anything but water). My milkshake was not out for all to see, it was behind my phone and I was not being flagrant about it. I went to sit and the bartender yelled behind the bar, the guy from the front caught me and said I wasn't allowed outside drink. Everyone at my table said "SHES PREGNANT, let her stay!" but the bartender then wouldn't look at me and the front guy had no choice but to "kick me out" until I finished my milkshake. I was not about to chug a milkshake in order to sit down and drink water so I went to my car and cried and left. They should've never treated me like that and I will never go here again.

This place completely sucks. I really can't believe so many people rate this so high. The service is absolutely terrible and the outdoor bar and patio area is really gross. I don't think they have cleaned anything in months. There were nasty flies and gnats everywhere, probably due to the sticky unwiped bar, dirty tables and nasty/sticky/wet floor. The bartenders are really bad. The worst I've seen in maybe ten years. They give off a gigantic vibe of REALLY not caring about anyone or anything. It felt like they almost enjoyed ignoring patrons and moving slowly, making people wait to order or receive simple things like a menu or your bill. They also let 50+ yr old creeps hang out at the end of the bar and stare at everyone. Basically, the service here sucks, it's a gross nasty mess, and I can't believe people would spend money here. It's hard to have all of these things going for you and still succeed in the age of Google and yelp reviews, so my only guess is this place has been around forever and older people are nostalgic about it. I'll never go back.

This place must be under new management and that is DEFINITELY NOT A GOOD THING. I visited Selwyn Pub over the weekend. I ordered pizza and "crispy" wings to go. While I waited I was "treated" to conversation between the servers. One waitress spoke of her aspirations to be a stripper and how her boyfriend supported her. The bartender (female) and another server rattled off gossip. The servers and cooks could be clearly seen eating consistently in the window to the kitchen. What I didn't see was them washing their hands after stuffing their face. When I got home (20 miles away) with my order, I was BEYOND disappointed. The pizza was poorly crafted and barely had anything on it. The wings weren't "crispy", they were burned. Maybe the cooks could have gotten it right if they weren't so busy eating. I have absolutely LOVED Selwyn Ave Pub over the years. After my most recent experience, I will NEVER go back. They have definitely gone down hill.

First off Selwyn has been a staple in the Charlotte area over the past 30 years. The owners are the kindest, sweetest, most caring individuals you will ever come across. The pizzas here are absolutely fantastic and a must try! ( try the designer pizza!) We are bestknown for our Transfusions! The wings are another must (yes you can get all flats!! $2 up charge!) The menu is small which to me is perfect for a such a quaint little spot as Selwyn pub! The staff here is a different breed of individuals. Watching the servers run laps and take all the tables on the patio with ease is quite the feet if you ask me! This little gem of a spot is one you don't want to miss out!! So the next time you are wanting to go out somewhere in Charlotte but not sure where? Well my friends this is it!!! Come on out and see and experience such an amazing place!

Would give zero stars if I could. Have been coming here for 18 years until last night. Escorted a friend home who had one too many and came back to meet back up with my husband and neighbors. Was literally just standing there mid conversation when some new employee raises his voice and throws me out of the place. I was completely shocked. He kept saying he told me no more drinks? My friend as I mentioned may have had 1 too many but was by no means doing any harm nor was I. There are 20 year olds sloppy drunk all over this place and they profile a loyal patron that is a mother that lives in the neighborhood. This place is not what it used to be, employees are ridiculous and place is unkept. It’s a shame. Will never be back and we’ll find a better neighborhood watering hole.

One of the worst experiences I’ve ever had with a waitress. Took forever to come back every time we ordered anything. Then at the end of the night we felt like our receipt was wrong (could have been right we just wanted to double check) so we asked for a printed copy. She once again hid from us for 45 minutes before finally coming back to print the receipt. Once she did she threw the paper at me across the bar while giving me the meanest look, woman standing next to me said “damn that was so rude”. So embarrassed for this waitress. I’ve even a waitress many times and understand when you are stressed and there is a rush but no need to be rude to paying customers. Maybe develop some customer service skills.

Where should I start. As an avid fan of Selwyn Pub, I thought ordering for a group of friends in town would be a hit.. and it was... in the worst way. The pizzas were missing toppings, and cut as if they were in a hurry. After spending over 200 dollars I would have expected better service. Not to mention we ordered 40+ wings and they came with ZERO SAUCE. Completely dry wings. When we called the manager he was beyond rude and told us there was nothing he could do. This is the third or fourth strike for Sewlyn, we’ve given them way too many opportunities to redeem themselves. Needless to say we will NEVER be returning or ordering from them let alone tell people to visit when in town.

  • Theodore Smith

Staff here is incredibly rude. I walked in last night with my girlfriend and we were told that unless we were seated we had to be wearing a mask (to be expected, even though this was all outside on the patio). Meanwhile one guy on staff in particular was constantly hounding people who even came close to standing about putting on their mask (like switching seats with the person next to them). The table our friends were at was completely full so we couldn't sit with them, so we stood next to it with our masks on (like the guy said) and were told rather rudely we either had to sit at a table or leave. So we left, and I will never be coming back, mask requirement or not.

Place was fine but the waiter was absolutely horrible. I’ve never left a review before but this waiter was awful. Never once checked on the table. When checking out the tan seemed 20$ more than what I had purchased. I asked to see my receipt before paying and she rolled her eyes and said I guess angrily. After 25 minutes she still hadn’t brought the receipt and my girlfriend asked the bartender for it. She came out and threw the receipt at my girlfriend shocking the other people sitting at the bar. Place seems great for under age people looking to pay extra to not get carded. Avoid if your over 21.

  • Katelyn Strickland

Disappointed would be an understatement. You would think after spending $250 at any establishment, your order would be correct. Unfortunately when me and my friends called about our incorrect Postmates order, “Todd” said there was nothing he could do to help. K. Selwyn truly has great pizza and wings, but they aren’t so great when every part of your order is wrong. What’s worse - they genuinely don’t care about their service because all the 21 year olds and underage kids keeps their business BOOMING. And tbt to when they made you have a membership card to get in. Thank u, next Selwyn.

  • David McDaniel

This is a great neighborhood bar with a ton of character. Adam does a great job of making the regulars feel welcome. I typically wear a t-shirt and jeans when I am there vs. a long sleeve polo and khakis that the other reviewer referenced. When I go to Selwyn Pub, I typically see a diverse group with one thing in common - character! It is common to see someone in a suit sharing a beer with someone in jeans with tats. A message to the fore mentioned reviewer, life is too short to be unhappy. You would probably be happier at Jason's Deli on Woodlawn. Check it out sometime.

  • Taylor Saxon

My waiter - Stephen was disrespectful when I asked if he could turn a game on for my girlfriend. Later on, another person who was friends with the employees got chest to chest with me and said “how much do you make you short ****”. My waiter then tried to throw me out. Multiple tables stood up and said that I wasn’t the one instigating, but the waiter, Stephen, was showing blatant disrespect to me again. Do not understand how you can treat customers this way.

  • Brooks Autrey

Selwyn Pub has been the go to spot for some time now. Great atmosphere, food, and place to watch sports. However, It would not be the same place without the great staff that works there. One server in particular, Stephen, is always there with great attitude and attention towards his tables. He makes the experience that much better, and I always leave satisfied. Cheers to selwyn.

The food was pretty good and vibes were great but my experience was ruined by one specific male bartender. It seems there are many negative reviews about him and it reflects poorly on the establishment that he still works there. Don’t try to ask any questions about the bar menu or for drinks to be put on different tabs on a game day without being cussed at. I overheard him talk to many girls in a derogatory manner. Needless to say we got out of there.

  • Buddy Mitchell

This place is a joke. The food is good, but the service and management are absolutely terrible. They literally could not care less about getting orders correct and making sure their customers are happy. We used to go to this place frequently but it has gone down hill dramatically over the last couple years. Pathetic management. Miserable staff. Careless service. Hope they go under and someone with a brain and heart take over and bring it back to life.

  • Lily Eyraud

Great scene and lots of TVs but the service is continually terrible. There is a huge amount of turnover in their waitstaff. I would recommend ordering from the bar if it's not too crowded instead of the waitstaff if possible. They don't take reservations but it can be a lot of fun to watch a game. It's much better when it's nice out as their outdoor area is much better than the indoor. The food is great and I would recommend the signature pizza!

  • camille piccione

Great place but seriously needs to reevaluate one of the male bartenders. So rude. Brown hair, handsome guy. Literally shamed us and yelled at one of my friends for simply asking for separate checks. We understand if that is a problem and were willing to pay together if needed but we do not need to be scolded and talked to like we are five years old. We heard multiple people talking about him being unnecessarily mean to them. Gross behavior

  • Meg Smith

Our friends took us to Selwyn for a casual Friday dinner. The menu boasts a bit more than the typical pub fare and beer selection; they have something for pretty much every diet and/or craving. The food itself was only okay, though the varied draughts kept us happy. Service was occasionally aloof, but nice overall. In the end, it was the company that made our night, not the venue.

  • Darlene Scott

Unique aesthetics, staff extremely pleasant, diverse menu of drinks and food. If you're a sport's fan I'm sure it's a wonderful place for you. Wasn't quite my vib or scene. It was nice, I would enjoy this place 10 folds over during its non-peak hours. If you're not into heavy crowds don't go during peak times. It was an experience.

  • Olivia Park

Worst place ever and I never have posted about complaining about a bar ever so you know it's bad..Waited at the bar front for more than about 15 minutes and never got served as I put my hand up with my card and being a female. All bartenders served except for this Asian female. Never again will I waste my time at this place.

  • Aldo C

The buffalo crispy wings are hands down the best in town and anywhere I’ve eaten. The service quality can vary depending on the season but it’s a casual sports bar with neighborhood atmosphere, and sometimes I simply order at the bar and skip the wait, so it doesn’t bother me at this place. Their wings are worth it.

  • VISION

The bar/finger food is very tasty! A variety of wings, pizza, sliders and nachos. A nice selection of beers and drinks to go with whatever sporting events you're watching on all the TV's in the place. Indoor and outdoor seating is available. The servers are polite and courteous. Parking is a little tight. 4.5.

  • sanjay upamaka

It just felt to me like that the white bar tender lady seemed to be a bit unfriendly based on the ethnicity background where I come from. I Had 4 beers and happen to order 18 inch pizza which was tasty but it wasn't hot it was below like warm hoping that the Manager/Owner looks into it and takes it seriously..

  • Renee “Nae” Houghton

This is a great place to have a drink with friends, watch sports and enjoy their fun patio in a great neighborhood. Staff is very friendly and welcoming. Check out their sliders... Yummy. Great food too. I also enjoyed the 'transfusion" drink. Wow. Amazing. Check out this pub for drinks, eats and a good time.

  • Daniel Wallis

Nice place! We went for quiet celebrations on a Sunday night. The bartender fulfilled the orders very quickly. I asked for Guinness and was given a complimentary taster of another dark stout from Ireland. Being from that side of the world it was nice to be introduced to another drink like Guinness.

  • R Martin

This place has turned into a joke, I watched the bar tender pour out 4 overpriced Tito’s and soda. Filled cup fool of ice, added soda and then splashed on vodka. This meat head has no idea how to even pour a simple drink. Too busy on his phone texting. Inside bar was closed. Won’t ever go back.

  • Christian Jones

Local favorite pub in the heart of Selwyn. They have a large outdoor patio with plenty of TVs for sports events. Really cool atmosphere, but it can get busy. My girlfriend and I waited at our table for over 20 minutes last time and no one came to take a drink order. We just had to leave.

  • Christopher

Great atmosphere with indoor/outdoor options. Plenty of TV's and outdoor heaters for the colder months. Couches are outside for relaxing, can eat/drink indoors as well. I do wish they would restrict the cigarette smoking as it's offensive and a detriment to the health of other patrons.

  • Robert Mackey

Really like this place. Delicious food, great outside seating with plenty of flat screen TVs. Fav spot to watch football. During busy times, I feel they should have an extra server or two outside. I could get a drink in seconds at the outside bar, but the server would take a while.

  • Michael Felder

Love this spot for getting drinks. The outdoor area is amazing for hanging out and watching the games. Inside is a little small but usually wide open for seating. The food here is solid. Get the cheesesteak on wrap. The wings are nice. But the key is the pizza. Pizzas are legit.

  • Jenny B

I went here for my first time yesterday. LOVED IT. The atmosphere was incredible. Food was delicious! Definitely not typical burger and fries. I had sliders and fries and was really impressed. The front outdoor patio roped me in though. So relaxing. Want to go back for sure!

  • JJ Souther

Weak pours, standard pub fare, no table service outside. The bartender had to bring over our food, the wait staff never approached our table. She did wait on other tables, just not ours. Probably not going there again unless I want a beer and I don't drink beer.

  • melissa bogan

Enjoyed our new year's eve celebration here! They were very busy, but we felt taken care of. They had a great outdoor covered patio with heaters and fire pits lit. It was a great atmosphere to ring in the new year! Tip: Ask for a glass for your beer

  • CA E

The new Selwyn pub is not what it used to be. It took 45 minutes to get service after asking for someone to take our order. The servers are not helpful and do not pay attention to all tables. Very disappointed in this visit after the reopening.

  • Andrew Greenberg

Its Sat. and the superbowl of soccer is on. But instead of listening to the game they insisted on playing the audio to the senior pga tour. Way to kill a vibe and put your patrons to sleep....were off to a real british pub down the street.

Cool spot with tons of outdoor seating and fast service. Best thing on the menu is the, hands down, the Nashville Hot Fries. Drinks were great and the fried pickles and wings were really good too but the Nashville Hot fries stole the show.

  • Samson Robinson

Selwyn is were locals go and Charlotte's best kept secret for a college bar in South Park. This place is meant to be a college bar and outdoor patio to watch sports. Transfusion is the drink to get. There's a new burbon one that was

Originally posted Selwyn as a five, but then I went in the daytime! Unbelievable amount of trash around the grounds. If they can't find the time to pick up the parking lot, can they find the time to clean the kitchen?

  • Sean C

It's just ok. Our food order came out in waves and by the time the last person got their food, the first had already finished. Food was good but I feel like it's a better place to grab a drink and watch the game.

  • Sara Mitrecic

Selwyn pub is the best hidden gem in Charlotte! We come here to watch sports games cause they have tons of TVs and patio seating is awesome. Make sure you see Kyleigh when you’re there, she’s the best bartender!

Arguably the best pizza in Charlotte. The place was packed and I was in and out in 10 minutes with a to-go order. The doorman in the bartender were very helpful

Average, dirty, and overcrowded bar with laughable bartenders and inadequate restrooms. That being said, I've had some pretty good nights here.

  • Rajendra Thapa

Great bar for a watch party. NFL on weekdays brings millions of people to this place. A must go place if Panthers are playing away.

  • B Boidy

Pros- The divey/neighborhood vibe, the drink options, the prices, the PIZZA (I didn't want to admit it, but it really is good)

  • Kyle Mortimer

Weak drinks & understaffed service. You’ll get a sugar buzz before any of the watered down drinks hit you. Overall value 4/10.

  • Margie Barnett

Fun and friendly pub in historic Charlotte neighborhood. We had a blast with Bartender Katie! The Selwyn Sliders were amazing!

  • Jenny Taylor

Outdoor patio kinda smells and they don’t allow dogs! I think it’s the only outdoor bar in Charlotte that’s not dog friendly.

  • Torgny Bjers
