Went here a few times and had loads of fun. I either missed the guy who was taking a cover charge or I got in before they started, but I went there around 930ish or so and didn't pay to get in. A very cozy atmosphere overall. The dance floor is pretty close to the bar, so you're gonna have better luck at tables and stools on the other side of the room if you're looking for any sort of seat without having people bumping into you. The drink prices felt a bit average, I only ordered beer and I felt it was pretty fair. I can't say much in terms of mixed drinks. I have to applaud the bar staff, there wasn't a whole lot of people behind the bar, but they were doing miracles making sure nobody was waiting a long time for a drink. Top notch service. If dancing to poppier, alternative and punk music isn't your thing you may not be too crazy about it. Personally I love it and it's always a good time when you're with complete strangers singing and dancing along to songs. The person in control of the music the couple of nights I went did a damn good job with keeping a solid amount of variety. The transition of Beach Boys to Joy Division, to Talking Heads to Misfits made for an overall enjoyable time. It's always a plus when a place plays a wide range of genres and groups. Overall this is a fun place to hang out and enjoy some music. I wouldn't necessarily recommend it if you're looking for an intimate place, as it gets a bit crowded and loud. However if dancing and singing along is in the cards for you, definitely worth checking out.
Great bar however the service is terrible. I had a long, hard day at work and went in, quickly realizing after ordering a double whiskey, that they only accepted cash. I only had 10 bucks on me...like I was broke, and I just wanted a stiff drink. I would've used my credit card, but again...they only accepted cash. The drink was 7 bucks and I didn't leave a tip, apologizing. Before the glass got the chance to touch my lips, the barman takes it out from my hand and says, "No tip? No drink " I was stunned. Tips are not mandatory and no server or bartender should guilt a patron into tipping especially if they can't! Or even taking away a drink after I clearly paid the guy! He just went back to the cash register and gave me back my cash. This is the reason why I'm strict with tipping. A tip is a bonus for amazing service, not a responsibility of the patron to make up for a low wage. Really disappointed. {{{Reply to Max}}}: I've only ever been NOT able to tip 3 times in my life while living here in Montreal...and the bar tenders were cool with it, understanding that just because I'm not rich and rolling in dough, I'm still entitled as a Human being to want a stiff drink after a hard day of work. Because I'm still buying drinks at the establishment, and I will return more often, and tip when I can. I work in the service industry too, and I NEVER beg nor treat my clients like this. It's unprofessional.
It is small and somewhat cosy, but they charge you for every single thing. You'll have to pay an entry fee (given the prices of drinks it's preposterous), then inside the guy forces you to put your coat for safekeeping or he won't let you further (and that is paid too). The prices are kinda high and I guess they save on the amount of alcohol they put into their mixed drinks. I guess the atmosphere and overall experience could be better if they were clear from the beginning this is money-making institution, not a proper rockabilly club. Music was ok though, but the parquet is amazingly small for the number of people they let in.
The bartender told us they don't accept debits nor credit cards and asked us to use their ATM instead. Ok so I wanted to pay with my own cash but he refused it and try to force us to use their ATM instead ! We refused to use it - because we had the cash - and the bartender got mad at us and took away our drinks...! We were shocked and we immediately moved out of this place. 1st time I see someone who refuse you to pay with your own cash !!!!!! So beware if you plan to go there..
Bartender tried to short change me. Beer cost $5.50, have bartender $20 and tries to give me $5 bill and $4.50 in coin change. I looked at the $ with a face that I knew I was short changed, bartender immediately whipped out the other $5.00 bill waiting in his hand to give to me. He smiled and gave me a fist pump. Did he know I was American and didn't know better? Hmmm Beware of what $ change you get back.
If you like dancing on oldies, rock, and indie rock: this is the place! DJs play the music and not a live band. I was amazed I could find such a place which is uncommon in US but common in EU. I had lots and lots of fun here. Staff is nice and helpful. It can get a bit crowded, but such places are generally like this. I wished you could use your card to buy things.
Not sure where to go for your Friday night dancing needs? Look no further! This place is a place for the weird and wonderful, with a bunch of old rocking tunes and throwbacks. Even for a socially awkward queer who struggles to dance with confidence, I find myself appreciating and grooving along in no time. Bring friends!
Great place to go dancing and the drinks selection is pretty good. Also they often have lesser known bands who play there so it's a nice place to discover new talents. Not a good place to have a chat as the music is really really loud. But if you want to dance and go crazy then this is a good spot.
Never really had much fun there except for the baby-foot table, which is a quality one (a Bonzini). There is generally one or two skilled players there, so you if you grab a beer and challenge a few players you might end up having a good time at this place. Otherwise I would not recommend.
Great music and drinks are cheap (for Montreal). The venue is small, in a fun way. The patrons run on the young side, though, and the dancing an awkward high-school-prom feel to it that doesn't match the vibe of the place at all.
Was better before the pandemic... staff is extremely rude and one of the staff members got violent for no reason... pushing clients when they explain an inconvenience... my friend has a concoction. It used to be a lot friendlier.
The Cure, Depeche mode, The Smiths, Joy Division, Madonna, Bowie and so much more is the type of music you will dance to at Rockette Bar. Amazing, beautiful and very human staff to serve and entertain you all night.
Even with the DJ's questionable choice of playing Great Big Sea's " It's the end of the world as we know it" as one of the nights last songs, this remains a classic and iconic Montréal bar.
The place has a very dull vibe on weekdays but the pint served is actually $5 so in that regard, it's a cheap place to hangout with your friends on an all nighter party haul.
One of the best nights of my life here! The music was an eclectic blend of absolutely awesome from 60s drifter hits to 90s pop! So much fun! Danced the night away!
If you end up here on a Saturday night and the guy with glasses is the DJ. You're in for a good time. If it's the woman with the pink hair, go somewhere else.
Nice 80s / 90s mood, good mood, nice staff and customers. You can't stop dancing the DJ is incredible.

Rock music club. The dance floor had been always crowded on the times I was there. Dj plays rock music, sometimes mixture old and new things.
