This is not a business or open to the general public #1 . #2 It really is a cave that stretches as much as 1.5 miles under the Oak Park neighborhood of North San Antonio by the airport. It has everything expected in a cave,spooky passages ,large rooms,endangered species. The entrance is below ground level in a vacant lot, most people don't know what's under their feet when they shop at Oak Park HEB. It's called Robber Baron because of rumored nefarious uses back in the day, including a speakeasy during Prohibition in the early 1900s and as a tourist attraction It is administered these days by the Local Spelunking Society and Cave Management people. It is occasionally open for guided tours on an irregular basis ,but if you get the opportunity seize it. And that's guided tour,when I was a kid,we would tie a roll of string to the entrance so we could find our way back,it was pretty scary.we were only maybe a 100 ft in,but you were underground cold,clammy and the darkness was pitch black,kind of surprised no neighborhood kids ever got in real trouble. Which is why it is locked to the public. Absolutely, Definitely worth looking into, if your into the netherworld.

What an awesome place hidden practically in the middle of highways and neighborhoods. You can't access it as far as climbing inside due to the metal grate the city has now used to block the entrance of the cave. I've heard multiple people lost their lives in the past trying to explore the caves on their own. The actual opening of the cave was about three feet wide to where anyone attempting to enter back in the day would have had to squat and climb in. After crawling in a few feet though the cave opens up to this massive underground hidden beauty. Temperature inside had to have been around 65°f . Even with a grate blocking the entrance you can still feel the cool breeze coming from the cave when facing the opening and this was during a south Texas summer with temps around 101°f or so. Such an awesome place.

I feel like all I give out is 3 and 4 stars nowadays, but that's cause nothing is really blowing me away yet. The Robber Barron Caves are no exception. In they're defense, I did not explore even a quarter of what the caves had to offer, and I did enjoy that of which I did, but the biggest drawback was how unorganized the whole operation was. Groups were running into each other, people didn't know who was with who, and the ENTRANCE PROCESS... Uhg... It was awful. The caves were a nice experience and I don't regret going, just don't bring clothes you want dirty, and make sure to bring entertainment if you're going on a Saturday.

I expected to see this some sort of a park place where you can walk and enjoy seeing the cave. Never expected it to be closed off and part of a house. We didn't even get to see the cave. We couldn't even park anywhere.. so we just left. It was a waste of my driving.

A gem inside the urban area. Well maintained by the dedicated volunteers. Trees and shrubs are labeled for proper information Nice sidewalk by the Nacogdeches. Close to H‑E‑B and Starbucks. Just park your car and enjoy this hidden gem. Or take the bus VIA10 and drop by the cave right at the bus stop 91327. Unfortunately the cave was closed when I get here on March 29th.

An otherwise lush, little corner on Nacogdoches Rd that hold many secrets! The park is nature at its best. You can't go in the cave, but there's still plenty to see. The group that maintains the park will open the cave up for explorers every couple of years. It's amazing how many people have no idea it's even there - I speak from experience!

There's not much to the cave. Only a 20 ft drop with stairs. A nice little rest stop. However, the story behind the cave is pretty interesting. Today was a bit unkept. Foliage taking over the path. Almost like forgotten. Also it's kinda hidden. Once you find it you know where it is. But driving by you wouldn't even know it's there More

This is a really nice little escape amidst the neighborhood. A couple of picnic tables and native plants conveniently labeled as you walk around. The cave entrance has roughly built steps that lead to the actual entrance points which are unfortunately locked with gates. Overall, it's a nice place to enjoy a picnic.

This little known cave is really cool. Right in the middle of the city. It was a great place for a Cub Scout adventure. Very primative cave with no rails or lights. We go here once a year and the Scouts (and parents) all have a blast. It is it more fun than any of the other caves in the area.

My brother and I went in the cave in about 1961. There were no flat surfaces, everything was a crevice which you traversed by wedging yourself across the chasm. We were able to go only about 30 feet in any direction before the crevice became too small for our small teenage bodies.

Well what we saw was very neat but it was closed down so that sucked but I thought it was cool cause it was right there where people lived at all around it .

I was just walking by when I saw this on the map and had to check it out. Really cool, well maintained spot. Minor graffiti, but overall very clean. Great info on the signs. There were also picnic tables of you wanted to eat lunch or take a break.

I've been to robber baron and had lunch there but this past Saturday 9/28/19 they had an open house. My fiance reserved spots for us to do the off trail tour (45 minutes long, lots of climbing, crawling) and it was absolutely incredible.

This looks like it used to be kinda cool, but now it's a bit run down and looks like it needs a bit of a clean up

Had a nice picnic with a friend here after accidently discovering it only a week before. I've lived that area for years and never saw it. I was pleasantly surprised. Full of native flora labeled for our education. Bring bug spray!!

I was a little disappointed when I first saw the size of the park but once you cross the bridge it's unbelievable how much time you spend on a small corner lot. My little ones had fun.

An enexpected gem in the city. The entrance is locked to avoid damaging the cave or people getting stck. It's entrance is hidden in a pocket at the bottom of a stone stair way. More

Robber Baron Cave is a local treasure! It is only open to the public once every 18 Months, so don’t pass up the opportunity to go! It’s a natural cave so be prepared to get muddy!

It was really pretty, but unfortunately, the cave was blocked off, so we couldn't go inside.

Such an interesting place. Learn about local Texas geology here. No entry to the actual cave though. Only on the special days. Then it is opened up by a local caving club.

Itz cool for sure ran into it by chance was really excited, all those tunnels around San antonio who knew. HEB is a block away so you can make use of the picnic tables.

Awesome experience great little adventure has picnic tables also a plus if ya wanna bring some food along. But make sure to clean up after dont be a litter bug

This is FREE! And you can park at the HEB and walk over if you don't live in the neighborhood. Super nice, secluded little place to meditate or have a picnic.

Robbers Baron cave is a hidden gem in San Antonio Texas! While biking with my brother, we encountered this spot and was a great rest spot for more adventures.

Nice spot of nature in the middle of a neighborhood. You can't actually enter the cave system, but you can walk down a little sinkhole to the cave entrance.

Grew up in Alamo Heights and have been visiting the cave for 20+ years. Many people don't know it exists and I like to call it the secret gem of A.H.

Come out and explore nature's underworld! Only open to the public occasionally so take this unique opportunity to see what lies beneath San Antonio!

It is a great preserve. you can't just walk in and you have to call the preserve manager in order to schedule a time to visit.

Hidden Gem found through googling free caves in Texas. It was fun to take the kids and to read the history of the cave.

The hidden gem of Alamo heights. Truly amazing what they have done to this "gem". Second largest community cave in TX.

Wish we could tour the cave or find information on how to schedule a tour. This cave has some unique history to it.

Cave is always closed but Park stay open from morning to night, I believe caves is open to the public twice a year.
