I read reviews about Canal for the past while and how good it is so we decided to try it out for the first time Saturday evening. We were four and had 6:30 reservations. No alcohol is sold at this restaurant and it isn't BYO either and not having asked any questions when we called, it was a surprise but still not in any way a deterrent so be aware of it is all. We were sat down and not knowing the procedure waited for around 10 minutes without any service or bread brought to the table. So we asked people sitting beside us what is the story and they said customers stand up and go to the fish counter and order what they want, get a number , and wait for it to be brought to be the table. We had a side order of salad, a side order of fries, 2 orders of mussels, an order of the salmon plate, and an order of the fish and chips plate. The fish and chip plate has options of cod, halibut, or talapia. The cod was chosen. One can ask for half fries and half rice with the plate rather than the one accompaniment. Although the ambiance is not restaurant style but rather somewhat cafeteria do not dismiss this excellent dining experience. Every plate and side was fresh, tasty, delicious, and packed. The sauce for the mussels was flavourful and just the right amount of spice. We all wished we had a nice baguette to dip in it and wipe it clean. The fish and chip plate was crispy, light, and flakey. The salmon plate was perfectly done with a nice crisp on the outside and so tender and juicy on the inside. When we went to pay, we were surprised how inexpensive it all was. I'm so glad we found a superb restaurant serving fish that is truly delicious. Take-out is teeming with customers and we can see why.

I was excited to try this place with my middle eastern mother who was looking for good fish in the West island. Everything was very fresh but it lacked the restaurant ambiance. We called ahead to reserve a table, we came in and sat down quickly. To order you have to go to the fish area to choose your fish and place your order at the counter, there is no menu except online. It was our first time so we ordered a bunch of plates from the menu. I later saw that no one else was ordering like that. Most people were ordering whichever fish they wanted and then shared fries, rice, salads, etc.....the price was extremely reasonable. The calamari was probably the freshest and best I ever had, the fish n chips aren't at all pub style fish and chips, more like deep fried pieces of fish, you can choose from Basa Basa, halibut, code and sole. Again, everything was very fresh. I would go again but I would order differently. Almost all our plates wether it was french fries, fish, calamrie, rice, shrimp all had the same spices on them making everything taste similarly, I found that a little boring. A pitcher of water was placed on our table but ordering and paying for everything is done at the main counter, all our waitress did was bring the food to us, never asked if we wanted anything, not even water. I was curious to see if they would ask for tip, they did, not sure about the etiquette for that..

It's our first time ordering from Restaurant Le Canal. I've been seeing people go in and out of this restaurant and I wanted to try their food for a while now. I ordered for take-out and the little time I was in the restaurant, I was greeted by the lady at the cash with a nice warm smile and she was very kind & polite. We ordered the Grilled Sea Bass (it comes with rice & salad) and the Octopus Salad. ALL I CAN SAY IS THAT MY MOM LOVED LOVED LOVED THEIR FOOD (she's very picky when it comes to food from restaurants since she is an EXPERIENCED chef), but she was the one who told me to give them THE BEST RATING possible and to do it right away because THEY DESERVE IT!!! The salad with the Sea Bass was DELICIOUS!!! The fish was grilled to PREFECTION and the Octopus Salad was out OF THIS WORLD (it even had some herbs and sesame seeds in it which is a great surprise)!!! Although the place was PACKED (pretty sure it's because of the GREAT quality of their food), they OVER DELIVER!!! Also, the cost of their food is UNBEATABLE!!! DEFINITELY recommend this place to anyone looking for an AMAZING SEAFOOD restaurant. We will definitely come back for more!!! BRAVO TO THE STAFF!!! Wow! Their salmon plate is my go-to with a side order of sautéed spicy shrimps. 10/10. By far one of my favorite places to eat. Recently, went there without reservation (I know..my mistake..I admit it), it was supper time and it was very busy as usual. My family (about 5 adults, 1 toddler and a baby) went by and tried to get a table, but they had so many reservations that they had no space. I was super disappointed because I was craving their food and I wanted to take my sister there to try it. My family and I we were discussing other alternatives when suddenly the very nice man who worked there came out and said "no worries, we can accommodate you, come on in!". Man! I was happy! This place did not disappoint! My family loved it. From the fries to their salad to the freshness of the seafood and fish. Could not get enough! Thank you again for the hospitality! Love this place and surely recommend this place to everyone! Keep it up, you guys are amazing.

This place was absolutely phenomenal. Really. I love eating at these type of places that are like a combination of "uncooked produce" like fish market/butcher and restaurant. Like the food speaks for itself. It's fresh as can be. You walk in you pick the cold fish, calamari, and mussels from the ice. They cook it on the spot made to order. I also suggest you look at the menu where you can find the full list of items they have to offer that's not on display. Food is great, service is great. Atmosphere needs so work but it's OK. You're basically eating on basic tables at a fish market with some Egyptian themed items. Would go again! They have a customer for life!

Restaurant Le Canal. Is a decent seafood restaurant. We visited this restaurant in December 2020 for takeout. They are extremely busy so the service is pretty slow and we understand that. They have so many orders. Also Dine-in Was not available since it was a pandemic. Other than that we ordered the Calamari a grilled fish and it was delicious. The Perfect amount of salt and spices, not that salty nor overpowered.It was delicious. I felt like though the serving was small and a bit pricey for what they served us. I would recommend this restaurant to all. We hope to try this restaurant again in the future and expect changes to everything.

Ate here over the weekend and the food was incredible, very delicious and seasoned impeccably. The issue I had was the waiter who greeted only my fiancé and completely disregarded me to the point where he had his back turned to me and was only talking and addressing my fiancé. To be so blatantly disrespectful to someone who just walked into your restaurant was really sad especially when the food is incredible. If you do not like serving people or even being a decent human being and acknowledging every person the same, you shouldn’t be working in the public.

I have been a customer since this place opened at least once a month and referred countless people there. The first time we were violently ill a year ago. I told the owner and he confirmed a bad batch or whatever, never offered compensation or apology. This second time we get sick a few days ago from sea-bass… it felt as though the flesh was soggy. Both times happened when the owner is not there and I am sure it’s in the preparation or handling of the fish. Please revise your food handling as I may refer this to the health inspector. I am sure it’s food from your restaurant because all 4 of us got sick at night right after.

Celebrated hubby's birthday here. Even though I hate fish, it was hubs favourite. What a surprise! It was a little confusing on arrival but we were greeted by smiling, friendly faces. Everything explained, we chose beautiful red snapper, deep fried, sardines grilled, rice and very tasty wedge potatoes. All the food was delicious and well cooked. The potatoes are not to be missed. The snapper was so well seasoned and super crisp. Okay, I'm converted. I may turn out to love fish after all. Lovely staff. Ask for Ihab. Enjoy.

If you sit down, the food is amazing and the service is good. Take out is a different experience, the wait time and service are sub-par. Was told it would be ready in 35 minutes, it took an hour. The front staff seem to be playing a disorganized puzzle with the meals, as the kitchen gives them individual meals and they have to re-assemble them into takeout packages. They did give us a 2$ free drink as an apology, kudos to the man behind the fish counter for being super nice and for having tried to speed up our order.

This restaurant has the most fresh seafood, you can literally pick your choice of fish or seafood at the fish display counter. The restaurant is clean, I ordered the whole fish entree which was the most tender and flaky grilled fish ever and the seasoning was perfect, as well as the crispy exterior, and the house salad was so flavourful. everything on menu is great value for the quality you get. The owner and staff is so nice and attentive as well, if I lived nearby I'd be a regular.

Great food at an amazing price. I had a salmon entree, which came with a very generous portion of grilled salmon, rice, salad, and fries. If you haven't experienced Le Canal restaurant on Blvd St Jean corner of Pierrefonds Blvd you are missing what eating fresh sea food is all about. The owners opened it 7 years ago. Their opening day was the scary flood day 7 years ago. Thank God they are still there. They are Egyptian. No alcohol is served. But boy. So fresh so tasty. Must go spot. We will become regulars. It took us back to our Bosphprus memories the way we used to eat amazing fresh grilled sea food and fish. A true West Island gem.

This place is a must for sea food lovers! It's a family-run seafood counter with a spacious dining room. Heads up, it's not a fancy restaurant with a wine menu. You order from the counter and the food is brought to your table. The owners are friendly and the food is consistently fresh and delicious. My family and I always get the grilled sea bass, salad, fries, grilled shrimps and grilled octopus and they never dissapoint. It's also inexpensive for the quality/quantity. I love this place!

Best grilled shrimp I have ever had. Great healthy options. Dine-in experience is great, especially for a nice family meal. Pick up can sometimes have a very long wait time. Salmon filets were a bit overcooked.

I went here for the first time and ordered the family plate menu item. The fries were crispy and seasoned nicely, loved the salad, and the fish were all deep fried perfectly. I wish some items were grilled but I'll try them next time. The restaurant has a nice 'fishing dock' theme which complements the food. You notice a gill smoke smell as soon as you walk in, which you may or may not like– I do like it. Overall, great first impression.

Hidden gem tucked away in the corner of a strip mall where the Mourelatos used to be. Fresh seafood on ice on one side and adjacent is the kitchen. Since it was just after lunch, I opted for the Salmon Plate which was suggested by the owner and if you like spicy, they can make it spicy for you, (I like spicy.) I have been searching for a tasty seafood restaurant in Montreal for many years. Finally, i discovered this restaurant in West Island. It is really amazing and not to miss. The shrimps are super yummy and the fish are really fresh and very tasty. My kids are very picky: they adored the food and they were very impressed by the octopus. Very clean, super tasty and excellent stuff. Will definitely come again and again.

This is my favorite fish restaurant. Everything we ordered was fresh and delicious. Typically is overcrowded, so make reservation for large group. The staff is polite.

I tried their tilapia plate and really enjoyed it fresh fish that they use that is on display when you walk to the main counter. Really nice flavour tartar sauce!
