My cousin from California remembered her meal of. four years ago and so we went for a second visit on my wife's birthday. At first I had a sense that the panache of the restaurant had diminished somewhat but the thought was more likely because the front terrace window was not open. I tasted both salads ordered. The arugula salad was far superior to the romaine of the Caesar. Both servings were generous but the light delicate dressing on the arugula was a perfect balance to the bitterness of the leaf. Main course choices were predominately bavette de boeuf. Seasoning was excellent though cooking was overdone to my taste. My lamb shoulder was excellent. I expected a stewed preparation but instead received large portions of grilled well seasoned tender meat shucked from the bone. My wife's duck was also excellent and with two bottles of Francis Coppola white chardonnay later, we were now ready for the next course. An outstanding tatin de pomme portion served as the birthday cake while an excellent ricotta square was a soft and smooth sampler for those who needed more sugar than just an option in their coffee. Service was special from knowledge of the menu, to timing, guidance and personality. The waitresses nose rings and Gus', the chefs' cowboy hat aside, the sophistication of the food far outstrips the humble nature of its Plateau's location.
Hands down one of the best Restaurants I've eaten at in a long time. We had a party of ten which was served quickly and efficiently while still being sociable and helpful. Out of all the dishes that were ordered, the steamed mussels in a creamy white wine sauce and the beef served on scalloped potatoes in a rich gravy are superb. The restaurant itself is small and cozy, and makes for a great atmosphere for dinner with good friends, family or a special date. But be aware that seating is limited so be sure to call for reservations or check for availability. An absolutely mind bending selection of wines for such a small venue, and a good selection of local beers, ciders and a well stocked bar to match. Kudos to the Chef, Staff and Management for an excellent dinner for all.
The food is out of this world! I've been to Gus dozens of times over ten years. There's no restaurant that I've ever been to that outdoes itself every single time like Gus does. Seriously, I've every time thought that the food is somehow better than the last. Exceptional! The servers are always friendly, accommodating, and knowledgeable, and the atmosphere is cozy. I'm somewhat at a loss to express just how amazing Gus is. All I can say is that if anyone were visiting Montreal and wanted my recommendation for dining out, Gus would be it. I'm only sorry I didn't leave a review years ago!

We decided to spend our Anniversary weekend in Montreal and discovered a truly hidden gem. Restaurant Gus is 5 experience in terms service, ambiance and especially the food. I'm not one for salads but could not stop wanting more of it. We ordered the surf and turf and could not stop talking about it even the day after. The recommended wine was a perfect choice. Even stopped by the SAQ to bring home. Gus, thank you for bringing the right people, a cozy atmosphere and delivering possibly the best surf and turf dish I have ever tried. We'll see you again very soon.

Truly at a loss for words after having had dinner here with friends last Friday. Let me start off by commending the service, which was absolutely outstanding. We immensely enjoyed our waiter's enthusiasm, friendliness, and knowledge of the items on the menu. Everything, literally everything, we had was out of this world, carefully thought out, and flavours beautifully paired. From the simplest things like bread, and a corn salsa of some sort, to the wine and mains, WOW. Two of us had the bavette de boeuf (which was out of this world), one had the duck, and another the osso bucco. We also had the horse tartar, which was also delicious and spiced perfectly. Truly amazing dinner, and we will be back to try more items off their fantastic menu!
First off the food is legitimate. Every single dish my group ordered was amazingly delicious and well executed (with the exception that the pork had a tad too much salt). Pricing was really fair for what you got. Portions are generous but not too big. My favorite was the ceviche. As good as it gets. Don’t get scared by the ‚Tex mex‘ twist. The menu didn’t look overly appealing to me in the beginning but I changed my mind after the first bite. Every bite was pleasing. Place is small and was packed (on a Wednesday) so make a reservation. Looks like they are always busy. Setup is nice too. If you sit at the bar you can watch Gus and his chefs cook. Perfect dinner on our last night in Montreal.
I contacted Chez Gus via Facebook to find out if they cater to vegans on the day itself. They said it wouldn't be a problem at all. So I booked & we went and had a really good time. The waiter was first a bit taken aback by my question, probably a first time for him, but went to discuss my options with the chef & was really friendly about it too. The chef proposed a plate of Greek pasta with eggplant & tomato sauce, simple but good. The portion was huge. We had a green salad to start with, with a delicious dressing & some apple in there. The wine list is huge and there were some nice wines by the glass. It's a really nice local place, so warmly recommended.
Gus is a wonderful food experience. I could not recommend making the time to go and try their take on a surf & turf. The food is not only DELICIOUS but the service is friendly and professional. I strongly suggest you make a reservation : it is now a popular hot spot and is often full. They also make a delicious bloody Caesar, for those unaware : the Canadian twist on the classic Bloody Mary. The ambiance is warm, friendly and more on the casual side. I'd say it's a great place for a first date! You can also reserve for a large group and have a wonderful experience : the portions are very very generous and made for sharing.
This restaurant was always my Uncle Bobby's favorite ! I had a wonderful Birthday celebration with my girlfriend Suzanna!! The food was superb, the best Caesar salad I ever had, and the steak was another level of TENDER and melted in our mouth. Our Margaritas were made by the Chef ,himself, super delicious and we had fun with our waiter Kerwin all night. Chef Dave made French onion soup to die for and even said a personal "GOOD NIGHT" to us. The menu is fun and varied, the staff amazing, I will be back soon!! Thank you Chef!!!!!
I absolutely love this place and its owner David. We enjoyed sitting at the bar where we could chat with him and interact with the kitchen team. The food was great - some dishes were based on French classics (steak frites, tartare, etc.) others spun off in creative and delicious directions. They make their own bread and hot sauce on site, so you know they pay attention to detail. The location is great for parking and not on the tourist strip so it feels authentic.
Absolutely amazing. It's a cozy spot with just a few tables, plus a bar. If you're sat at the bar, you'll get to watch them work their magic in the kitchen and, if you're far enough to the right, you might be able to see the TV to watch the game. The french onion soup that they serve during hockey season is a revelation.

This place is a hidden gem in Montreal. I ordered the Caesar salad which was probably one of the best Caesar salads i've ever had. Next time i most definitely will. I then had the bavette over scalloped creamed potatoes, i'd have it again. It was delicious. The service was great as well. The waitress knew the menu as if she had created it. I'll be back!
Fantastic lavish dinner in a great atmosphere! The staff is very friendly and attentive. They explained the menu well and recommended great wine in combination with the meals. The wine list is also excellent: the best of European wines and the new world. The open kitchen setup adds to the dining experience. I would recommend this hidden gem to anyone.
I always have a great meal here when I'm in town. Huge wine selection for the size of restaurant. Always a good variety of plates to choose from weather you're a carnivore, pescatarian or vegetarian. And make sure you save room for the strawberry shortcake. You will NOT be disappointed! I had the whole piece myself and was not ashamed.
Small and cozy, the food is always on point. We have been going since it opened and have always had a great culinary experience. The staff is friendly and welcoming, would highly recommend.

One of my favorites thus far. I extremly recommend it. Don´t hesitate to share their Cesar Salad and Surf ans Turf plate.

I can't even count the number of times I come to Gus for lunch and dinner. The food is excellent, the wine selection is very good, and the staff is very nice and friendly. I once organized a supper for 12 friends and my one vegan friend was very happy with the vegan offerings on the menu.

What a delicious experience! Tomato salad, Ceviche, Veal Chops and Minty lamb - amazing flavour and texture combinations, I highly recommend a visit if you haven’t been already! The ceviche with the line, orange and toasted coconut is a must!
Great place to have a fabulous bite. The meat is delicious. Cesar salad great as well. Service is friendly and Gus is great. Everyone should give this place a try. Only negative is the place is a little small and reservations are recommended.
What an extremely disappointing experience at Gus. Pricey and horrible food quality. I ordered the Portobello salad (15$) and the lamb shoulder (31$) and clearly there are some issues with the kitchen. The portobello salad was 99% lettuce
Food was good and the accompanying sauces are amazing! Service from waiter and waitresses were impeccable. Only thing I didn't like was my lamb meat, felt like it was missing something. Overall, recommend and will return!
Fantastic flawless meal from start to finish. The surf 'n turf plate was excellent. The desserts, tatin pie with whiskey and strawberry shortcake were equally delicious. Service was friendly and attentive. We'll be back!
This restaurant is actually a great discovery for me … food is amazing if you like the classic a notch above. I don’t want to say too much hahahaha the restaurant is small so … I want to have a spot ! Its a must !!!
Friendly, cozy and delicious - this restaurant lived up to the reviews. We were lucky walk-ins who got seats at the bar. The staff and chefs were friendly and charismatic. The food was delicious. No complaints!
Quite possibly one of the best meals I've ever had in my life. The flavors and presentation is immaculate. Service is on point. A wonderful experience.

Great ambiance, amazing caesar salad, good surf and turf, and Gus is super nice. Eating at the bar and observing the cooks was a treat in itself. Reservations recommended though as the place is tiny.
A friend of mine wanted 'mussels and fries' and I suggested Gus because it seemed to have the best reviews for it. How was I supposed to know that this restaurant was going to blow my mind?
What an experience! From the customer service to the amazing food, I couldnt get enough. The highlight was the salmon tartar and the Cod. Everyone should experience an evening with Gus!
Absolutely fantastic! Staff was great and the food was outstanding. Highly recommend if you're in the area. It's small so keep a look out for the entrance as you're passing by!
Good dinner. Great starters like the octopus and nachos foie gras!!! The main courses were ok, too much into sauces. Friendly staffs and loud ambiance for small place

Interesting take on Mexican / Steakhouse food. From the menu I wasn't really sure if I would like it but it far exceeded my expectations! It was amazing.
