Refuge, a trendy new concept we stumbled upon on a guys weekend in the Queen City. Located on central ave and a Short mile to Downtown, surrounded by bars and breweries. The owner Jay greeted us and was gracious enough to give us private tour of the space. Currently they have 5 rooms (again it’s a concept) But all the rooms are uniquely named and designed which was fun and intriguing to learn the story behind the design. Our group of 6 stayed comfortably in 2 rooms which room 1 had 2 queen beds and room 4 had 4 queen beds with a cool bunk bed style. I was worried if the room would accommodate them and it did! Better then we expected! ( I felt left out as I would be staying in that room on my next visit back.) they have a tiki bar in their lobby called the Rumaway cove. Rum inspired cocktails that did not disappoint! We tried several cocktails but the pain killer and the happiest hour were the stars that shined the brightest. Over all this little gem was a pleasure to stay at and we can’t wait to see this flourish into the full size model! Well done guys! We look forward to our next visit!

We stayed in the proper room for 4, which was comfortable enough for our family of 6. Two bathrooms and a beautiful hot, good pressured shower and plenty of outlets and shelf space for phones/drinks / etc. The Mexican restaurant next door has delicious food/drinks and great prices. So much parking in the back - and it came in handy because we were traveling with a second vehicle pulling a trailer, at the end of our week-long road trip. Additionally, the lobby has a table and ample seating to gather in, and the hotel is a short walking distance to coffee shops, delicious eateries, and the local transit line. I almost didn't want to review this place, for fear that this gem of a find won't be readily available next time we visit! It's a GREAT find and we definitely would stay here again. OH! Should also add that even though the hotel is not your typical hotel - unstaffed - Jay was so helpful and kind and was quick to respond to text/phone calls with my questions before and during our stay.

Great location in Charlotte. Lots of places to walk to. I went record shopping at Lunchbox Records, had a great ice cream at Two Scoops creamery, grabbed a delicious rum cocktail at Royal Tot, visited the Thirsty Beaver Saloon which reminded me of my childhood, and had some great BBQ at Midwood Smokehouse for dinner. And that's just what's nearby! Refuge had very comfortable rooms, a great chill vibe, free parking and it was just so wonderful to get a delicious cocktail at the bar onsite before going to my room. I'd definitely stay here again.

Our stay at Refuge was one-of-a-kind. Jay and his team have crafted a unique and refined urban escape. The design of the room was thoughtful and expertly executed. We really appreciated the unique art and modern design concepts. The location was great too - with all of the local bars and restaurants within walking distance. I grew up on the East side of Charlotte so staying at Refuge was a special way to reconnect with the Charlotte community while visiting town. I would highly recommend Refuge as a home base for your Charlotte adventure.

My family rented out 4 of the 5 rooms at Refuge and they were incredible. Thoughtfully designed, beautiful, and welcoming. On top of all that, the owner , Jay, and his family were incredible kind and helpful. It was also fun to have the Royal Tot tiki bar in the lobby for an afternoon cocktail! I highly recommend Refuge. It is in a great safe location and Plaza Midwood is such a fun neighborhood. If I'm ever in Charlotte again, I know exactly where I'll be staying.

The location was great and the place was clean. It felt very odd, though, arriving to a dark and empty building to check in on a Saturday. It looked like the bar is closed for good, but they're strangely still advertising cocktails outside. The guest room was ok, though I didn't love the bare concrete floor. The highlight is definitely all the places in walking distance (check out Snooze), then head over to Optimist Hall. A good home base for exploring!

Really enjoyed my stay here! Got the room for four as it was all that was available even though there was just two of us. We loved it! The bunk bed set up made us feel like kids at a really bougie camp. Would definitely come again! Would love to bring friends and stay in the room for four as a girls weekend or do a couples trip in one of the smaller rooms. Beautifully decorated, Public Goods toiletries available, and delicious drinks at the bar including non-alcoholic spirits. So happy we stayed here!

Great experience staying at Refuge! The check-in process was seamless. The room was very clean and complete with original art pieces and a spacious shower with great water flow. The complimentary coffee bar in the common area came in clutch the morning after exploring the Plaza Midwood neighborhood the night before. Walkable to so many fun things to do! Would recommend Refuge to anyone visiting Charlotte.

Our room was clean, uniquely decorated, and very cozy. We had an issue getting into the building but management answered our call right away and remedied the situation. Top notch customer service, a great location, and a nice room made our stay enjoyable. Would book again if ever back in the area.

We absolutely loved our stay at Refuge. Communication re: check in and out was perfect and everything went smoothly. Our room was adorable - great decor - and had everything we needed. Bed was very comfortable. We went to the cocktail lounge (Humbug), as well, and loved it. Really friendly bartenders and delicious drinks.

This boutique hotel is absolutely adorable and the bar in the front called "The Lobby" is one of the best hidden gems I have been to in Charlotte! Their martini is FANTASTIC. The only thing better is the bartenders - Kyle and Jimmy. Sweet, knowledgeable, hospitable.... I also enjoyed the music and the overall vibe. So many cute plants!!! 5+ stars for sure <3

Very unique space! However, the walls are very thin. During our stay, we kept waking up in the middle of the night as we could hear our neighbors talking and laughing loudly. Besides that, I really appreciate the aesthetic of the place!

Been wanting to try The Lobby at Refuge for awhile since it’s a Moth project. Love the staff and space. Everyone was super friendly and the drinks- whoa! I had their play on the a dirty martini. The blue cheese olives are some of the best I’ve had in Charlotte. Can’t wait to go back and try other drinks.

A really cool bar with a great cozy atmosphere and amazing music. I spent a few hours here waiting for a friend and would definitely go back. The bartender (Matt) was really friendly. Their signature cocktails are delicious and imaginative. They have a great selection of single malt scotch.

Very unique and beautiful space that Charlotte needs. Knowing that this is just conceptual hotel and the real deal is coming up soon, we’re very excited about that. We booked 2 nights for my mother in law in this place when she was in town from Seattle area, she loved it so much.

Fantastic stay and very cool boutique hotel. The rooms are one of a kind and the staff couldn't be more hospitable. Enjoyable lounge and chic bar with superb cocktails! 10/10 would stay here again.

Overall experience great. Your paying for the location and the rooms are unique. I would suggest some more sound deadening material for the rooms though. The tall ceilings are nice but between the concrete floors and no insulation you can hear someone cough in the hallway.

Had a great time at Refuge! I absolutely loved the ambiance and the staff was amazing! The surrounding neighborhood has many gems as well. I highly recommend staying at Refuge - such a fun getaway!

Didnt stay at the hitel but visited the newly opened listening bar. What a welcome experience. Relaxing with a couple drinks and listening to a mix of smooth music and of course conversations were really nice.
