Protospace. Come for the tools, stay for the people. What first drew me to Protospace was the idea of being able to access such a wide array of large tools (CNC mill, metal lathe, welders, laser cutters, 3D printers, full woodshop, electronics room, ect.) at such a great price. The reason I continue to be a member, even through times where work has me too busy to do any personal projects is the people. I make a point of coming every Tuesday just to meet people and learn. There's just such a vibrant welcoming and smart group of people there. I truly feel that the community built at Protospace is just as valuable, if not moreso than the tools it provides access to.
What a wonderful place to be a part of! The initial startup process can be a little time consuming/difficult. But it's worth it to have access to such an incredible space! I've utilized most of the wood shop and laser printers at this point! Living in Calgary, most of us renters don't have space for a workshop of our own - so this was a life saver when I first moved to Calgary this past Feb and needed a workspace to help customize my living space! And now I'm just a sucker for learning all the things that Protospace has to offer! The embroidery machine and CNC are next on my list!
Great place for those with creative spirits. They have open nights on Tuesdays if you're interested in checking them out. They mainly focus on woodwork, metal and electronics. The sewing room is on the smaller side but it's still quite good. Highly recommended if you live in the area as it's open 24/7 if you have a membership.
Excellent place to learn a new skill, or get your project finished. They have laser cutters, CNC mill, a lathe, wood shop, way to many tools to list in a short review. Membership is only $55 and you can come and go as you please. There are lots of awesome people willing to help you as well.
I’ve been a member for four months. The space has maintained equipment, and a knowledgeable and welcoming membership. I have had good access to tools whenever I dropped in. The courses are run by volunteer members. The ones I’ve attended were well organized and VERY well done. Recommended.
If you like to build or make things you want to be here. All people around have the same mindset. If you always wanted to build that project but you don't have the space and all the tool need it, you can find it here. Visit the space Tuesday night.
I have been a member less than a year. and I can say this space is VERY different from society at large in a good way. and plus, if you have a strong passion for science and technology, than there is a very good chance that you'd like it here.
Amazing organization with fancy tools that the average person can’t afford to have in their garage. Laser cutters, cnc mill, lathe, etc. Well worth the monthly membership fee, especially being the only makerspace in Calgary with 24/7 access.
Calgary's very own community run makerspace. I have learned so much here and had access to tools I could never afford or maintain. The members are welcoming, friendly and helpful. Visit any tuesday night open house to see for yourself.
A heaven for all kinds of makers, I have learned so much over the last 3 years! From welding to laser cutting and 3d printing. Highly recommended to visit the open house every Tuesday between 7 and 9 PM, to see it for yourself.
Protospace is great to work on your projects. They have a great variety of tools but the real reason to join is the members. This is the best place in Calgary to exchange ideas with brilliant and interesting makers.
I'm biased as a member, but the people are great and everyone there is happy to help and offer suggestions with whatever your project is. I would definitely recommend coming to check us out on a Tuesday evening.
I'm a member, and it is FANTASTIC. Great place to work on maker projects, but the best thing is the brain trust. If you need help, anyone will offer to give you a hand. …
It is beyond my imagination that there could be a better maker space anywhere ... amazing people, awesome tools and machines, 24/7 access and very affordable!!
A great Hackerspace, with great people, working on great stuff. Very friendly to new members, check out the open house every Tuesday!
They have a laser! and a CNC mill! and its all so inexpensive to use! I made these cool little things!
