If I could give less than zero stars I would. I signed up only 4 months ago, was promised "stability" in pricing and was even told by Greg that my rate wouldn't go up in 2020 at all in consideration of the Covid crisis. I received an email yesterday morning saying MY RATE WOULD BE INCREASING FROM $188.50 TO $465.50!! I've heard of 20-40 dollar rate increases at worst, NEVER an increase of HUNDREDS at one time! I think a class action lawsuit is in order. At any rate, I have reported them to NYC 311 and will pursue additional action. UPDATE: Received the "concerned-sounding" response below and called the number as specified. I received a call back from a man named Ed who ultimately preached to me about the money this "real estate company," Prime, put into the unit. Some of the other highlights were that he's "been to court plenty of times" and that he'd try to work with me, but the adjustment still wouldn't be "anywhere near what I am paying," and that they had the right to raise the rent as much as they want, legally, unless I had it in writing stating otherwise. This adds insult to injury and now I will pursue legal action. This company sees your unit as a piece of real estate and obviously I made myself an obstacle to their booming success by choosing to do business with them at the rate they actually offered. How come research wasn't done on the value of this "real estate" before I moved in? The logical answer is a vicious bait and switch scheme targeted at holding a person's belongings hostage once they are settled in. Who can afford an immediate increase of HUNDREDS at once? They even appear to boast their own website where they auction off people's belongings! What I got from 2 phonecalls and having dealt with 2 different representatives, Franny and Ed, who's responses mirrored each other as if they were trained to deal with the turmoil they unleash upon people's lives, is that Prime is a heartless machine that would rather bare the expense of discovery, trial, appeal and possibly an Article 78 and very bad exposure (in other words, the terrible TRUTH about the unethical way they do business) than do right by their customers. It may take a slow 5-10 year legal process in court, but, much like the 2019 Tenant Protection Act, when injustice like this comes into existence, the need arises for a precedent to be established on what constitutes a reasonable rent increase and what is unconscionable. I hope no one after such case will have to face an increase of hundreds of dollars at one time! Remember, Prime believes they have the right to raise the rent as much as they want and my situation is living proof they will exercise that right. By their logic, If I paid the increase to $465 this month, they could raise it another $277 next month if they see fit. Would you want to place your valued belongings up for legal barter, with no peace of mind whatsoever? I never got another call back or assist, even though I was promised one by yesterday. Welcome to gentrification in storage. I have contacted BBB, NYC311 and the Dept. Of Consumer Affairs to see what my next course of action should be. I would suggest avoiding Prime Storage like the Plague. I have had a very unpleasant experience thus far.

If I could give ZERO stars I would. I rented a space here, and moving in was a breeze. They lured me in with a price of about $30/mo. Then, just 2 months later, send an email saying my price was going up the following month to $78. This was only 2 MONTHS LATER, so that is absolutely ludicrous. I feel that I was BAMBOOZLED!!! The whole point of me moving here was to save money from the previous place I was renting. Had I known this immediate increase would happen, I would have stayed at the other facility. At least over there, they only raised the price after 1 year. Most places will raise the price after a year or so. But for Prime Storage to raise it so significantly, and after only 2 months, I feel TRICKED! And this is why I am moving to a more reputable storage facility, as soon as I can! Upon moving in, I did ask the manager how long this monthly price would be in effect. He said, no time soon, but didn’t give me a clear time frame; and now I see why. Obviously, he must have known from the start the game they play! I’d Avoid Prime Storage if I were you, unless you want a surprise increase of 150% in your bill, 2 months after you move in. Well, You’ve Been WARNED!

On 1/17/2022, Stanley and Irene give us very good help. They are very patient and provided us with accurate information. Stanley went to our truck and estimated my things, he gave us 2 options of the size of the storage room, then he took us to the storage rooms to show us and explained. The storage room was very far away from the office, after we took a look at and came back to the office, even though Stanley told me the storage room number which I selected, I said I forgot the room number and still wanted to go back to double check. Stanley asked me to stay in office, he just immediately went to the storage room again to confirm the room number for me. Irene generated the documents for me and explained in details item by item what I need to do and pay attention to in the future. When I wanted to use bathroom, she gave me key and told me the direction. We got all my things moved in and stored smoothly, we were very happy and felt warm in our hearts even though it was cold outside. Stanley and Irene did great job! We really appreciate their help! Thank you very much! I will introduce Prime Storage to other friends of mine.

Moved out after 6 months. I was told the freight elevator was being repaired. This made our move in harder as we took a large space. As a production company we are in and out of the space a lot. The entire time we were there the fright was out of service. We had, enough with the difficulties of getting in and out of our unit on the 3rd fl. For example, our 12' ladders had to be walked up and down the stairs as they did not fit in the very small only passenger elevator that we had to use to get the product in and out. We reached out to the main office about a refund base on the elevator never working and have received no response. The staff at this location was great to work with but the facilities are challenging if you need to use your unit on a regular basis as we did.

Tried removing my things from the unit today due to unfair price increase and of course the elevator isn’t working. I’ve been with this storage company for 5 months and Since joining not only has my price nearly doubled but the elevator and other things has often not been working. The man in the main office advised me to carry my things down the stairs. This is a potential safety hazard. I truly hope this issue can be resolved before I am charged another month. My stay with Prime Storage has been a nightmare and it looks like it’ll remain that way until my items are out.

I have been a long term tenant at the University Avenue location under many different REITs and management. The Prime Storage group is relatively new so I can not rate them fairly nor can I blame them for failures under a different management group. The staff appears to be friendly and knowledgeable. The location is clean. Closing out one of my units was effortless and efficient. If I had a wish list then I would think that more security cameras, space heaters (winter), fans (summer) and access to their parking lot would add a star,

Having rented storage in the city for almost 20 years I was looking to make the jump to a lower cost unit but with the same amenities and accessibility. Prime was very accommodating and had reasonable rates. Their staff are very helpful. I would bear with appearances for the moment as they are still making modifications to the building. But this is all for the benefit of thier customers. I am looking forward to the improvements in parking and customer accessibility. So far I have been very pleased with moving to Prime Storage.

Prime Storage at this location has very nice and helpful staff, clean facilities, and favorable prices compared with other locations. I talked with Irene and manager Jeff on the phone before my wife moved in the furniture. I also met Stanley 5 months later in person when I moved out of my stuff. The moving process was smooth with his help and the checkout was simple and quick. They are all professional and mindful of customers' needs. I'm glad to find this place and will definitely recommend it to my friends.

I came to just get information and Stanley made me feel comfortable enough with locking in my storage that same day. He has excellent customer service skills and made sure that I understood all the policy’s before signing up. Transparency is key when it comes down to business! Thank you Stanley you’re the best & shout out to Tim for being understanding when I came 15 minutes before they close. This facility is clean and efficient. Parking price goes up every 4-5 months, was already at $462 monthly, always was an issue to get in parking lot. Door was jammed or employee would deactivate your card because they claim they wanted to see you. When they have your number and could call you instead. Other times parking gate was broken and open anybody and everyone would park at any spot and leave me a note telling me I was at their spot when I was actually paying for the spot! Horrible experience.

Super convenient and friendly staff! I reserved my unit via phone to get the special price. I definitely recommend doing some research beforehand and maybe check out a unit to make sure you get the correct size for your needs which the in person staff can help you with. Something i’ll add here that’s not clear on the website is that *most* of the units are 7.5-8 ft tall if you were looking to take advantage of vertical space.

I cannot speak more highly of the Prime Storage University Ave staff and facility. The place was spotless, and Stanley, Irene, and the rest of the staff were so friendly and professional. Stanley brought us around the facility and showed us multiple units until we found the perfect one. He made what could have been a long grueling process extremely painless (and actually enjoyable)! So happy we found Prime Storage!

After having my storage for a few months, l was shocked at the huge increase a month. I also was shocked that things was missing out if my unit. I was told they had to replace the sprinkler system and they took pictures before moving anything, yet no pictures afterward., l was told by a manager it would be to much of a hassle to get composited for my missing items. Overall, l moved my things out, period.!!

I've been a customer for over 2 years there's been a lot of ups and downs... Overall I'm not too happy with the company but I stay because of the staff, Justin, Kevin, and Stanley. They are really such good spirits and keep me as a satisfied customer. They provide great customer service and the reason I walk out of their with at a smile.

The assistant manager Justin, is amazing. He’s cut my lock when I lost my keys, communicated storage policy clearly, has exercised patience, and has done his job to the T. I have been a member of prime storage for almost a year now and I have nothing but positive things to say. The staff make moving easy and stress free.

Nice people working, but the storage building is not in the best condition. Elevators are terrible! One is small and half-working, another is bigger, but with manual door and not in working condition most of the time. Inconvenient location with parking for only one truck or two smaller cars. Opens 9:30am, it’s too late.

Miss.Desire, was very professional and helpful And really explained everything too me. Being this is my first time ever having to rent a storage unit it was a great experience. And the building was very clean I will be referring friends and family, if they ever need a storage unit, Prime Storage is the place to go.

This facility and its staff, especially Jeffrey, have been absolutely amazing to me. The facilities are very clean and safe. It is all very organized and professional. Just moved my stuff in, and will update this review over time, but so far it's a great experience. Justin took great care to make sure I got what I wanted. The building is clean and brightly lit, and the location is easy to access and centrally located for all boroughs accept Staten Island.
