"TLDR great food, good portions great staff Started with salt and pepper squid which was a level of tenderness that I hadn’t thought was possible, stunned by an entree On to the mains, I had the linguine marinara another damn tasty one with the added bonus of no shells with the mussels or tails on the prawns a fine and tasty dish, love the fact the chef goes to the extra work!! My wife had the porchetta stunningly crunchy skin and again tender pork belly incredibly tasty flavor

"I had the (dis)pleasure of dining at Portobello recently"
Disappointing – does not deliver on value and quality Positives – good location, nice décor, solid staff. It was not a promising start as I glanced down and noticed that my fork was not washed properly and was half-covered by a sticky mess which seemed eggs served earlier today. We have ordered a mixed plate of six tapas and a kid’s meal – neither dish offered good value for money and neither delivered on quality for the price. Paying $49 for four tapas ones would expect either a very generous serving or an outstanding feast of taste, sadly neither was true. None of the dishes was truly memorable and the serving size was much less than expected. Paying $9 for a kid’s meal also put it at the high end of the scale without anything special about it – no free drink, ice-cream serving etc. Our sticky fork incident was quickly forgotten by otherwise lovely staff. Nothing was mentioned as we were paying our bill and no additional apology or discount for the embarrassing gaffe was offered. Would not recommend it and we are unlikely to visit it again.
We did the Valentines Dinner last night at Portobello as we do most years and they never fail to impress!!! This year was outstanding in food, service, seating, pricing and surroundings. The 3 courses were as good as any Michelin Star Chef and Restaurant could serve, it was faultless. The Margarita was perfect...so few places can make them right! A lovely selection of wine and spirits without being overwhelming. Being right on the waters edge the views are of the Port River Marina, historical bridge and historical buildings. Our table was beautifully set with a complimentary red rose which I could think take home. This lovely modern restaurant is full of charm and style with outdoor seated areas and has a smoking area closer to the water and near enough to Portobello to not feel ostracised. It was a most wonderful Valentines Day dinner and will be doing it again. The restaurant specialists in pizza, pasta and tapas all of which are mouth watering. Go to Portobello, you'll be so glad you did.
Dissapointing :( I went to this restaurant with high expectations but it turned out to be a disappointing experience. The positives: Friendly staff & nice location The negatives: The food was underwhelming, The involtini tasted funny, the meat was old, dry and tough to eat, the mashed potato was grainy but at least had more flavor than the meat. Overall very disappointing. I generally have dessert but this time I didn't want to take that risk. I have seen other similar comments about your involtini so I don't understand why you don't take the comments on board to improve the quality of your food. No one on our table was happy with their dish, the steak was not medium rare as requested, the spaghetti alla puttanesca was bland. Some people on the next table were commenting how soggy was their fish and how bland was the pasta. There are pubs in Adelaide that will do better versions of those dishes for half of the price. I would not recommend this restaurant.
TLDR great food, good portions great staff Started with salt and pepper squid which was a level of tenderness that I hadn’t thought was possible, stunned by an entree On to the mains, I had the linguine marinara another damn tasty one with the added bonus of no shells with the mussels or tails on the prawns a fine and tasty dish, love the fact the chef goes to the extra work!! I had the (dis)pleasure of dining at Portobello recently. For an establishment that appeared to offer fine Italian fare based upon their menu and business name, it became apparent quickly that this was not the case. FYI Portobello, the word is ESPRESSO, not EXpresso! And it just became a Fawlty Towers experience from there. 1) The server had to go and find out the dips from the kitchen/phone a friend as "people don't usually ask". 2) The garlic bread was as underwhelming as a Scomo handshake, clearly a coles/woolies ciabatta cut into slices and topped with an overly greasy spread. 3) The server didn't know the difference between crab and prawns when bringing out 2 of the mains. 4) The honey/vodka whiting made me sick. This place is tucked away and hard to find for a reason.
I visited tonight for the first time, to celebrate my mother’s birthday as a treat for her. I was most impressed with the flavour and quality of the food, especially as I enjoy fish and there was plenty of variety for entree and mains. There was also delicious options for other meats, but the fish variety was impressive. The servings are not huge, but were perfectly sized if having a few courses. As with other reviews, the table service was fantastic, the waitress (Tessa) paid particular attention to my mother, and could read my mind when/if we required additional service. She’s certainly an asset to that business, along with the amazing chef. I will certainly be coming back, and look forward to Tessa’s great service and enjoying other creations from the chef!
I’m not sure what people think Italian food should taste like but people who are rating it 5 stars clearly have no taste. I had arancini balls and it was boiled rice crumbed with some sort of Sugo out of a jar and the Gorgonzola cheese was nowhere to be seen. I’ve had better ones from a coles recipe! The whiting was underwhelming. The rest of my companions had pasta which bore no resemblance to delicious. Imagine, eating Italian food that has no salt added. This is the equivalent of a food court cafe experience, not a tucked away gem. If you love restaurant dining, this isn’t for you. Service and view was good.

The staff were fairly polite. Didn't know it was table service until I went up to the bar to order my food. I got a beef wrapped in prosciutto, the beef tasted funny and was pretty chewy. I had to try and cut my meal with a butter knife which was hard. My sister got the chicken breast with a white sauce which I didn't mind. We got a garlic bread entree which was amazing. Move on to desert....it was a creme brulee, the taste was amazing, but the sugar on top was too thick and the consistency was very thick and grainy. I wouldn't order anything from the grill section of the menu again but wouldn't mind going back to try their pasta and pizza. The views were amazing too, right on the water. A secret little place.
Food and surroundings were good. Main meals were all great, wouldn’t order the tapas again however as they were very overpriced for what we received i.e. $15 for the chorizo tapas which was a small ramekin with a 1x sliced and fried chorizo sausage in it. Service needs improvement. Even though it was full table service we had to get up and order our drinks at bar after being seated, we waited for the waitress for 10 mins. Waiter must have forgotten our desert order, ordered ice cream for our kids and gave up on it after waiting 30mins as they were getting too restless. Kids meals also didn’t come out with the entree tapas, kids has to wait till the main meals were served which was a bit strange.
Setting isn't bad but seems like more work has gone into presentation than the food. The food quality was OK, serving sizes were OK but pricing is off the mark - almost certainly the trademarks of an establishment who overworks the cost of "atmosphere" and "location" into their pricing. Some might be willing to shell out for aesthetics but improving on the menu and serving sizes would go a long way to bringing repeat business. Upside is the staff were very attentive and friendly. Tables can seat large groups which is good. Bathrooms are nice and clean. Split payment of bills was allowed, making it easier for groups to pay separately.
Have lunch here in the Marina while on a Dolphin cruise! I took my family out on our boat on the Port River for a dolphin cruise on 21/05/2022. We phoned an order for 4 pizzas and 2 garlic bread, and the manager met us out on their own landing with our order and an EFTPOS machine! He was really accommodating and it couldn't have been more convenient. The pizzas were lovely, albeit a bit expensive. The service and convenience was definitely worth the few extra dollars. We then tied up on a public landing and ate our lunch on the river. We never set foot on dry land. We will definitely return, maybe for an evening next time.
Great location, food choices were plentiful so was beer and wine selection. Pasta dish had a bit too much oil for our liking!! Restaurant was somewhat cold on a cold night which wasn't comfortable.

I had a very pleasant experience at Portobello Food Kitchen and would recommend this restaurant as a family friendly venue. The Waitress put the kids drawing kit on the table before we had even sat down, no need to even ask! The location is great as both boys could walk around in front of the restaurant and remain in our eyesight. Our meals were very good and of a high standard and the menu had a good variety for a restaurant of this size. The Zonin Montepulciano d’Abruzzo was a fantastic red that perfectly matched our meals.
Great view. I had the porchetta and it felt like the meat had been cooked before and frozen/put in fridge and zapped quickly in a microwave. It was lukewarm and tasteless. No crackling to be heard of! The few vegetables were also cold. It was a very small serving for the price. I should have sent it back. My coffee was cold as well. I would go back for the view and a wine. Disappointing for an eatery that has been around for a while.

Found this to be tricky. Had to park quite a distance away from restaurant. Would not like to walk by myself there at night.
The location is a little tricky but wow, it is worth the effort to find the restaurant. The restaurant catered for a 2nd Birthday Party and later a Birthday Cocktail Party while my party of three enjoyed the food, drinks and total courtesy of the staff. We all loved our meals, but ALL of the staff were so friendly and helpful. They made us feel so comfortable and provided blankets when we moved outside. I'll be going back again and again. LOVED it.
Been here five times as I live very close and wanted to give it a chance. Overall, below average food and ungenerous serving sizes for above average prices. I wouldn’t bother coming here, plenty of far better options close by in Port Adelaide and Semaphore. The pasta is acceptable, pizzas are not good (bland, small size and sparse toppings).

Great view, relatively clean and probably a nice place for a drink and cake. Coming from hospo the server was great. That's where it ends, the food was over priced, small portions and not nice for any of the meals. Garlic bread slices could fit two in your mouth, the pasta is half of a bowl, and pizza was a disgrace. Base was basically a wrap, basil replaced with Italian herb seasoning, most untraditional margherita pizza I've ever had.
This is my favourite restaurant. Period. Every time I come here I end up in bliss The food i ordered calamari entree Pork belly main And pear dessert Wine: ridgehaven cab / sav I was at the point of tears from being so happy from the food! Came on Friday night. PLEASE GO HERE IT IS BEYOND AMAZING!!!!

Enjoyed a lovely meal last night. Waitress was friendly & efficient, didn't have to wait long for our meals. Food was lovely, had garlic bread, wedges, aranchini balls, chicken dish ,2 pasta dishes. They were all served piping hot which made them much more enjoyable, after having food served on cold plates at other expensive restaurants. Prices were reasonable. Would go back there again.Great view of the river.

Portobello food kitchen.bar We celebrated our daughters 18th birthday, at this beautiful and scenic restaurant they helped us prepare the table settings, the waitress were fantastic they offered to help us with every aspect of the night. The food was delicious and all our guests loved the food and we were very satisfied with the service. price was awesome considering open menu for 40 plus people.
Ive been in the restaurant several times in the past with family and friends and have always recommended it but what happened to your food? Crab Linguine is not as creamy. I ordered Risotto with Prawns. My niece who was with me ate half of my Risotto and her Crab Linguine . We both felt sick when we got home. What happened??? This was on Oct.7, 2017 . Service was still good as always though.
First time visit. Nice quiet weekday lunch for two. Read the earlier reviews about small serves. ..... Absolute rubbish! The serving sizes were fine. Food Quality was terrific. Young girl serving was (AAA) animated, articulate, attentive, and refreshing to experience these days in hospitality. We will be returning.

What a lovely restaurant to sit outside in the sunshine overlooking the water enjoying great food. Service very good with friendly staff who are happy to make suggestions on the menu and cater to small requests. Would have liked to see a more extensive 'by the glass' wine list. A little far to walk from the car park (2 mins away) if you are elderly or restricted in movement in any way.
I've eaten here a few times and find the food is consistently hot and tasty! I was a huge fan of the dukkah crusted chicken breast with orange glaze but this is no longer on the menu (bring it back!). We ended up having our Wedding Reception here (in 2012) and Gino and his staff were fantastic and easy to deal with. All our guests LOVED the food and still talk about it to this day!
Exceptional food and service were great and perfect views. On the riverfront, it is a lovely, relaxing place to dine. Also, BYO. Risotto, Pasta, Salmon entree, Garlic Pizza, and Pork Belly in the photos. Enjoy!

A very nice location for a restaurant. We were spotting dolphins as we waited for our meal. We had some delicious appetisers followed by a very satisfying main. The sauces are beautiful and the service was really friendly. They were happy to accommodate with toys or colouring in for my 2 year old. The place is a little hard for parking, but the view and atmosphere is great.
Just ordered Ragu off Uber Eats and have to say there wasn't a bite I didn't enjoy. That was really light; meaty, right amount of juicy with the sauce catching the soft ribbed pasta and simply delicious. only critique would be to sautee the mushrooms in herbs and seasoning before adding to rage so it adds another dimension but that is my preference. Will be coming back
It’s highly recommended in Google, we decided to give it a go, the garlic prawns presentation was really simple as well as the taste; I ordered the Ragú and it was total disappointment.. meat was dry and no much taste, we ordered the Haloumi-Orange salad, it was pretty much only lettuce .. overall the experience was not the best, I wouldn’t recommend this place.
First time visitors to Portobello Food Kitchen and will certainly visit again. The menu is extensive and each course ordered was beautifully presented and tasted as good as it looked. The wine list is reasonably priced and has a good selection of beverages. Our waitress was friendly and made us feel very comfortable. Thank you for a great dinning experience.

My family and I had lunch here on Saturday 8th Oct 16' We all really enjoyed our meals of crispy fresh flavoursome pizzas, rich creamy generous sized pastas and cold champagne with strawberries. Our little man in the high chair also loved the food and atmosphere. Our waitress was very helpful, friendly and 'down to earth'. Thanks for a lovely afternoon!
the staff, the food and the service outstanding. If you want a fantastic feed with a relaxed atmosphere with views of the palms, water, old mill (lights up at night) and bridge Portobello is the place to come. Great for family events, special events, meetings, intimate evening with someone special or even by yourself. WORTH THE LOOK PEOPLE!
This restaurant is a hidden gem within New Port, tucked away on the waterfront with amazing rustic views. The food was authentic and delicious, the service was superb and genuine. I was also a fan of how the lighting was set in such a way that you felt like there were no other tables around you. I will definitely be going back soon.

Nice selection of food based around pasta and pizza, with a few extras thrown in. Reasonable selection of drinks (I don't drink wine and only one beer (furphy) on tap) . Very friendly staff and a nice view over the marina. Has signposts to park under the bridge and then a 2 minute stroll onto the marina which worked well.
Could be so much better. Lovely location. Decor drab. Front of house staff lacking. Both in service and attire. Food average. Dark plates don't help with how the food looks. Chicken dish way to many flavours, very confused. Food came out very staggered. Was a sat night, quite in the restaurant. Limited wine selection.
first timer! Iur expectation was so high but when the food has arrived on the table, little bit surprised with the portion of the pasta (so small) it was just so so or we can also say pretty tasteless but the chili oil was really help tho! The pizza just average, nothing special. However, excellent service n view!
Main meal. Salmon on a small bed of mash. Served with 1 cherry tomato cut in 1/2, with 2 thin asparagus. Why are tables set with a side plate when not even 1 bread roll was offered. Tequila sunrise? Concentrated orange juice? Hmmm it's a no return for me.
