When walking the trail on the parking side of the road, trees mostly shade you. A lake was on one side and a field and then the truck factory was on the other. A snake crossed in front of us. We think it was a rat snake. The lake was full of egrets. Before getting to the trailhead, on Pleasanton Rd 2 fox crossed in front of us. The 1st was a white with black tipped ears and tail the second, smaller and tan and gray, yipped and then ran across the road in front of a van. Thankfully it made it safely. The trail across the road meanders up and down past creeks and more trees. Very pleasant, no pun intended.

NOT IDEAL FOR LONE FEMALES! I really love this place... HOWEVER, if you are a lone female, just be aware that after the first bend in the trail it becomes incredibly desolate, and remote. I would fully expect someone standing in the parking lot wouldn't be able to hear a woman screaming at the top of her lungs after she had gone around the first bend in the trail. So ladies, bring yourself protection in the form of mace, stun gun, or concealed/carry! Not to say its a dangerous/unsafe nature area/trail...... Just extremely desolate!

It was great, a very relaxing trail with great views of the lake. The tall grass was a bit nerve-racking as boar and javalina nest could be seen in places along the trail. Also being fenced in was a tad odd. The trail does look otherwise well kept. At about 4 to 5 pm all the high school kids started to show up as this seems like a place they go to cut loose and make out. So if you want to avoid that scene maybe get your walk or bike ride done prior.

Part of the Medina River Greenway. Plenty of parking, porta potty and trash cans (and I think a water fountain) at the trailhead. Goes around Mitchell Lake, but the view is pretty obstructed by trees, brush, and fencing. Have had good luck with birding here! We did see a lot of evidence of wild hogs back in the winter, so be aware. Lots of wild flowers this spring :)

A pretty and well kept trail but it is hard to enjoy the nature when all you can hear are constant gunshots from the range right next door. There is a warning about wildlife like wild hogs, don't take that lightly. There are absolutely wild hogs and we made a quick exit after coming across a few.

A beautiful natural area, the trails are well marked and maintained. I would caution MTB riders, the upper dantes trails are extremely rocky, I was cursing the rocks by the end of my ride back then the car! You're looking at about an hour and a half for an 8 mile ride due to rocks.

If you are interested in seeing the birds on lake then you may be disappointed with the 8ft. tall fence (with barbed wire on top) that obstructs the view all around the lake. Other than that it is a nice place to walk or bike ride.

  • Lonestar Shredder

Beautiful view of the lake but pretty far away from everything else which is you'll rarely find more than a few people on this trail. Also should be noted that stretch of the LHI trail is closed for maintenance.

Traihrad to special place to do you work out you go biking or walking best thing you can go it's in the morning you can also see their views and animal so you don't see from the Zoo zombie very careful out there

The Medina River Natural Area is now connected to the Mission Reach Trail. New bridges completed over the Medina River and the Leon Creek. Be sure to take water and save enough energy to get back to your car.

Excellent and easy walking/bike trail for those who want to get away from the city and enjoy open country. Remember to always go in pairs or groups with the dangers of modern living. Happy hiking, y'all!

I love the Trails ! Come here on Saturdays or Sundays, just a great place to come out & relax with the family, & a good place to walk your dogs. Overall a great place to chill & have a good time.

I love the greeway systems in San Antonio.. Nice paved walks in the middle of the woods. You can walk as far or as little as you want. This trail is along lake Mitchell, but no access.

  • James Massingill

Paved, Level 1 trail. Quite with good shade and good pasture and lake scenery follows Lake Mitchell. Alot of butterflies, birds, variety of plants if your into the details of nature

  • Fernando Briseno

Great trail to take the family. Fairly flat winding trail. Sporadic shade. Roughly a mile and a half to the next trail head. Moderately used doesn't get too busy. Would visit again.

  • Arturo Solis

Kind of a let down. You can't get close enough to the lake to see anything. That is probably for the best since it doesn't smell very nice. The birds you can see are cool though.

  • Rudy Trevino

Very nice trail with a nearby lake. The area is very wooded so do not go off the trail due to snakes or something like that. Had a restroom in the parking lot area.

  • Carmelita Swain

I wish the trail was finished theres only about 4 miles of the 10 promised by the sign. But still beautiful...it would be nice to actually get to the water too
