My day was already going bad because my dogs grooming appointment got canceled in la brea because it was not communicated to me that my dog didn’t get his rabies shot on his last visit in Firestone even though I paid for it in advance. So that same day after having my appointment canceled, I booked an appointment at the location on Hope St closer to my house for him to get it taken care of. For Dr. Denise Hall to question me as if I’m a child about my pet. She asked what type of food does he eat and I said i think Merrick and began to look it up in my phone and her first remark was “you don’t know,” with an attitude. Then she commented on how long his nails was and then asked me in the same tone “Is this your first baby? Her assistant had know where this was going because she immediately started explaining it a lot better to why my dog needs his nails clipped every two weeks and that’s when I explain to her the issue of my grooming appointment getting canceled that morning. The way I left that place so upset is ridiculous. It doesn’t matter how many years you have under your belt you need to learn how to talk to people especially if you don’t know what’s going on. She didn’t even care to ask before running at the mouth. Do better doc.

If you’re thinking of going here, don’t. There are plenty of other boutique pet stores walking distance from here which have much fuller stock and much more competent customer service. Walked in to buy a bone for my dog, the selection was almost non existent- more empty shelf space than stock. Finally found something adequate, waited for several minutes at an empty register. As if leaving a register unattended isn’t unprofessional enough, when the employees finally did come back, they both completely ignored me, the person first in line, and helped the other customers first. There was zero acknowledgement from either of them, zero eye contact, no, “we’ll be with you in a minute”, they certainly didn’t follow the usual customer service norms of telling the other customers that they will ring up their products after the person who has been standing in line. The only person who acknowledged my presence was one of the other customers. It’s like this place has no management. I ended up walking out without a bone. It was worth walking in the rain to take my business elsewhere.

I love the convenience of where this Petco is located in Downtown Los Angeles. I liked the fact that I was able to find street parking in front of the store. I love how it’s organized in a way that I can easily locate what I came in the store to locate. I love the fact that when I asked an employee to help me find senior formula dog food. The employee stopped what he was doing, took me to the location where the food was and gave me a best recommendation for my dog. I was very thankful because they have a whole lot of product in the store. I needed his special knowledge to get in and out quickly. While I was doing my comparative shopping on my phone I was asked by employees several times if I needed assistance. The check out employee was very kind and encouraging as we did the transaction. One big plus the store attracts beautiful people. It’s a great place to people watch and meet other pet owners.

The store is great, the training services aren't. Every time my puppy was being a puppy in the store, I was told by an employee to sign up for training. So I decided to give it a chance. We finally go in for the session ... the lady barely even held the leash, told me a bunch of things I had already seen on YouTube, made me buy a Kong, made me buy a bag of treats, almost made me but a harness I didn't need. 100+ bucks later, I had nothing come out of the session. I am not sure if these people have enough experience training puppies or of they are just there to spell out a one size fits all list of advices that may not work. My puppy just calmed down with age and I figured out other small fixes over time by myself. The store is ok but you're probably going to find the same stuff cheaper elsewhere. I do frequent the store for pet and fish food however.

I came here to buy a product to kill fleas for my cats. My cats have never had fleas before so I did not know what products were available to treat fleas. Good thing I asked Mishele for help. She was very informative and went into detail of the different products that were available, as well as which were most effective to treat fleas, and the most cost effective. Instead of spending close to $100 for the treatment, I spent about $50. At the register, my account could not be found with my cellphone number and I told Andrea to skip it but she insisted for me to use it since I would save about $15. Overall, I had a good experience at this store and I know the workers here are well informed and take care of their customers. Thank you Mishele and Andrea!

Samantha and Kevin,Jesus distinguish this location from others. The best wishes to Kevin. He is an excellent store manager; he greets everyone and ensures that everything is satisfactory for us as customers. Samantha's product knowledge is exceptional. In addition, she maintains a spotless and orderly storefront. She cleanses the door knobs. She sanitizes the purchasing carts as well as the baskets, ensuring that customers receive clean and appropriate care while shopping at Petco. Jesus is a remarkable dog trainer. Jesus is assisting me in training my dog Jason to be a decent canine citizen, and this is my favorite store. I've contacted corporate to inform them that these three employees are exceptional.

This is a fairly small-ish location due to being in downtown. Not a huge variety of items but they've got all the basics including a ton of different dry, wet + refrigerated foods. Treats too. Also flea treatment for dogs + cats, which is needed year-round in L.A. You will find most things u need here but if you want a big variety of beds, pads, gates, fencing, kennels + larger stuff then you are better off going to one of the full-size locations outside of downtown. There is supposed to be parking in a structure behind it--you enter a driveway immediately South of store on Hope St.--but all i could find was Disabled Parking spots on 1st floor so try the 2nd floor parking. Woof woof!

Came in the store and they only had one basket for all the costumers. It seemed as though the workers didn’t want to help me as they had tons of attitude and stand offish behavior. It was like pulling teeth to get a worker on the floor. Actually immediately after I entered the store all the workers mysteriously went to the back. After finally getting help, (3rd worker I spoke to) I asked for two identical gates and he gave me two different sizes... when I told him that they weren’t the same he became condescending until I proved him wrong. What’s with this place? If people don’t like their jobs they should just quit. Petsmart provides excellent service.

Do not come to this store. This is the worst store in the world. The service attitude is extremely bad. I just parked my car in the parking space designated by petco for 20 minutes when I came to this store, and the clerk asked someone to put my car away It was towed away for no reason, and they cooperated with the towing company. They charged illegally. My car was only towed for an hour. They charged a lot of illegal fees for overnight claim fees, totaling 500 dollars. And they don't care about the customer's car. My $160,000 car was dragged and scratched by them without any scruples. Hurry up. Go out of business!

My mom recently lost her husband *my step dad* so she purchased a dog while on a random get away. She said the pup was to bring her healing and comfort. She came home with a sweet little pup. She didn't have any of the necessities for the pup so I decided to drop by this PETCO. I know nothing about dogs which is why I was so relieved when the employee took her time helping me, answering my questions and even helped check us out. I'm sorry I forgot your name but you're a true GEM! Thank you again for your patience and attention to detail. My mom also thanks you and will be returning to the store in the future.

Bad self pet bathing experience. The staff didn’t told me the washing and drying time is only 30min in total since I am the first time coming. I thought I didn’t wash for 30min. The staff just come and ask me to stop either washing or drying although my little dog is still wet. They can’t wait for a minute for use towels to make my dog dry. So disappointed. I understand it is because covid. But I think I should be informed about timing before I began to take bath for my dog. No one told me anything but ask me to stop immediately. Really rude.

Little mini-store clearly catering to DTLA-resident pet owners who want to be able to grab some dog/cat food without driving anywhere... so don't come looking for great deals or much of a selection. Still, has an oddly quaint "small town" vibe, like most people who come in are regulars and everybody kinda knows each other. I went in to get feeder crickets for my BF's lizard. I hear they don't always have them in stock. If I wasn't already in the neighborhood, I'd probably call ahead to confirm stock if you need something specific like that.

The staff was friendly to me. However, not having an Employee at the register by the front door is inviting theft. Also, it took me longer than i wanted to, to find the Natural Balance small breed bites. I first found cat food, which I did not want to buy. I had to search for the food that I buy for my dogs; aka Best Friends with PAWS. Also, I get discounts at other Petcos that have never been offered to me at this location. I prefer the Hollywood and Western Petco location, over any other Petco location that I have been to so far.

This location offers a self wash service for your pet. There is no policy regarding the service other than what the manager decides it is. It used to be available until 1 hour before closing time(8pm). I’ve showed up 3 times in a row only to be denied the service(self-wash) EACH TIME with the same bs story…. First the wash closed at 7pm, then 6pm and now…its 5:30pm. The best part is the attitude the employees take when you ask to pay for an advertised service! Why even bother if its such a hassle for the employees?

This is such a frustrating Petco. It's a great, convenient location and the employees are friendly - but they are always out of items that I need. Whether it's food, Greenies, flea meds, treats, poop bags, etc. they are out of stock. I have placed numerous orders for in-store pick-up, only for items to be out of stock. It's happened more times than I can count, and it was an issue pre-COVID. When I try to use gift cards, they have system issues and I can't use them. They tell me I have to call customer service.

Awesome place-great staff and great accoutrement for la pet, but waay pricey! I was actually hoping to outfit my cat with the basics: a litterbox and litter, a scooper,cat food for 2 weeks, and dry supplementary feed, and possibly a toy is it could be budgeted. I was hoping accomplish this for under $60, which I think is a fair price, lol! Almost $100 to provide my kitty with the essentials, and still felt I was lacking! Anyhow, great location, great store, just wish it was more affordable.

My cat seems to only like the brand in the photo, which used to be carried by a high end grocery store nearby. To be courteous, this establishment which has become often and inconveniently out of stock is not a pet store and will not receive a public negative mention from me. The downtown Petco, however, has remained my go to for this product. Also, one staff member in particular is out of this world friendly, and I tip my hat to her exuberance and top notch customer service.

I live Downtown so it's nice to have a petco so close. I get my cat food and cat toys. Pick up pet prescriptions, have your cat washed and groomed. They have collection of organic homeopathic remedys and medications for cats and dogs that really work. The staff at this particular Petco are very nice, attentive. If they don't have what I need in stock they will order it for me.....takes up to 2 days. I love ordering online and picking up at the store in less than two hours. .

Soo I actually liked shopping here even if they are a small store, when I first started Shopping here a year ago it was two very helpful associates that went out there way to show true customer service, But I recently went couple days ago, it's a associate there name Nancy who was very rude and didn't seem to know what she was doing or telling me, i had a coupon which she said was expired and it wasn't but because the store was closing I just decided to just tell the manager

Smaller location, but still with most of the usal products. They offer cat litter refill stations; high-quality, grain-free wet and dry pet food; vitamins and supplements; dog washing stations; and a small selection of toys and bedding. Free thirty minute parking is available in the parking garage before the store. I have not had to ask the staff for recommendations, as I usually know what I am grabbing for my cats. It's a nice store for a quick visit to get the essentials.

This place is nice! Super clean and organized from what I saw! I went back when they had just opened it I think.... I know they had self bathing stations where you can take your furry beasts and get it done yourself. Join the points program to save some cash. Staff was killing! The person who helped me was on the phone while helping me out at the same time! They need a raise! They also do have parking so that's awesome! Specially since b@lls deep in the middle of DTLA

Great store and the staff is super knowledgeable. The dog trainer Nancy is very experienced and reputable. I only gave 4 stars due to the fact that the man who answers the phone there is short, rude, and is a poor listener. He answers as if he doesn't have time to talk to you and it is quite obvious he needs training on customer service or needs a new job that isn't customer facing. Other than that, the store is pretty great!

The employees were and are really helpful and knowledgeable in their responses. Also they are highly friendly and patient. Even if your a noob and a first time dog owner. Make sure you sign up for the preferred customer card at time of first purchase. That makes returns really easy. Which by the way the petco team member executed the return with ease. Also noticed this location has a self dog wash area in the back.

I go to this petco location for all the stuff I need for my cats.. but on this particular day I visited, I was purchasing a flea and tick ointment for my cats and didn't know what to purchase until I went to the register to pay and met Sam. She is awesome! She helped me with the issue I was having, and she's also very knowledgeable about her job. Very helpful. All I want to say is thank you, Sam!! Your awesome!!

I always was hesitant to step foot into a Petco. I decided to step in yesterday and I had the absolute most amazing experience. It was so nice in there and I even got help from a super knowledgeable young women. She knew everything about cats and boy did I hit the jackpot. Ended up getting what I needed and saved a ton of money actually. Super nice staff at this location as well on West 8th st in downtown LA.

UPDATE Below:This is unacceptable, I ordered same day delivery and received this bag of cat food, which is visibly damaged and taped up. Bags of cat food torn open shouldn't be sold. They're convenient but like every convenience they're very very expensive. An item I can buy on Amazon for $15.99 was 29.99 at Petco. The story is very clean and I love that they do care about animals here. They have a cute sign on the door that says for animals to make sure that their humans are kept on a leash. It's a welcome addition to our neighborhood but an expensive alternative.

Came here to get my dog a new leash and left with food, toys, treats, flea meds and an oatmeal skin treatment for her. We were helped by a super cool woman who was extremely educated- so our dog got a perfect harness that doesn't choke her and doesn't pull me. She even put it on her and made sure we were confident with our new gear. We all left extremely happy, especially our dog.

I absolutely love having Petco. In DTLA. It’s in a Perfect location. Also all the Teamworkers are all so helpful & so nice! Nice to have very informative workers at your store who really listens to you & cares about your Pets. Zola (Female) is in 1st pic & Ziggy (Male) is in 2nd pic on hammock. They love Wholeheart all stages by land & sea can food.

The 2 lady’s were pretty rude for early day pick up and the one at the register was very uninterested in my question. The one on the floor was not helpful at all and rude. I don’t like the way I was treated at all.. I’m so glad I got a survey.. I have shopped at this location before and never experienced this. Both online order and store purchases. Not okay !!

the product i was looking for was easily accessible and the deals available for said product were posted for easy comparison. also the cashier was all about ensuring that the customers were getting the best deal possible including the use of petal rewards. it took a minute but i thought it was cool that they took the time to do it for the woman in front of me

I love the friendliness of the staff. The availability of the items. The people. The only thing I wish there was at the store is a meet up or dog play area. I know it’s not common for Petco but this is a dtla location. I think it would be fun. It’s extra so it doesn’t influence my score. I have been coming here for about 4 years and will continue to do so.

They have a lot of stuff for cats ,dogs And fish like harness and collars, They have different brands of food for dogs and cats. So you could choose from any variety of them the most you like. The only thing I didn't see was the brand NUTRO is a dog food ..and they have a self wash so you can wash your dog by yourself..which is pretty cool if you ask me ..

I went in totally distraught over my sick cat. But thankfully Lexi was there to help me out and to calm me down and give me everything I needed to make her better. Thank you so much to Lexi and to Petco for hiring her (smile) and I'm glad to say my baby is doing much much better. Thank you Lexie and I do believe a raise is in order (smile). Thanks again.

100% reliable providers and pet goods that are worth getting! The finest and amazing items like accessories, dog food, cages, and much more are really available in this pet store. It's so Petco. The people could not be friendlier and more helpful. The variety, especially for food, is really good. You are surrounded by adorable dogs. The prices are kinda high. I would Amazon for toys, litter boxes, fountains, and even food once you know what you want. Petco is great for learning and browsing. Amazon you miss all the awesome dogs.

It took forever to find parking on a Saturday night an hour before they closed. Just park at the parking garage nearby to save time. Check out line took a bit of time, but otherwise a clean store with essentials even life jackets! Their prepared food section was stocked. Would come back, but I’m not wasting time looking for street parking next time.

Very little parking, very little stock, and they only carry dog and cat supplies. No Aquarium or small animal supplies. The shelves seem to always be half empty, and the prices are better on Amazon. I really want to like this location as it is very close to where I live, but there really is not much to like about it. At least the staff is friendly!

I went late last night because my doggy had a rash that looked irritated, and just bad. A very knowledgeable man helped me out and showed me two products for my pupper. I sprayed them on him as soon as I got home, and when I woke up to spray him again, he looked A LOT better. My doggy and I thank you very knowledgeable man!

This pet shop should be known by others! The staff was uncommonly captivating, obliging, and beguiling towards me. Also, I was enchanted and satisfied noticing all of the pets that were appeared in your shop. Genuinely, all of them were impeccable and amazing. Again, thank you for your magnificent help to me. I’ve been here a couple times already for purchases and returning online orders. They have everything for pet’s needs. I had an issue with a return today and Liz was so patient and helped me through the process. I was finally able to complete the return. Parking is in the structure. The baked dog treats are a plus.

This is a very small petco compared to their other locations. Due to its size, only expect to find needs for your feline or canine only. This location does offer self wash and pet training here. Took my little baby Boston terrier and I was greeted and felt welcomed! Love to come back just for small quick purchases.

Feel like every time I go in here, they have Limited Supplies for cats. I only go in here for emergency items but it's always a "we don't have it atm or we no longer provide that brand"! The older Employees are great but the teens don't care and will help but you'll get that teen vibe like, I don't wanna be here!

It was a "great" idea to close earlier today, I bet you will have a "good" profit, considering you were working until 4 p.m. But could you do as little as move your finger and make notes about your actual working hours on Google maps, where all world can see that, but not on the front door where it's useless?!

It's one of the smaller locations, but good enough for a quick run if you're in DTLA. Staff is friendly. Only gripe is that I've had to go get someone to ring me because there isn't anyone at the register and I would probably stand there for a good while until someone realized that I was ready to pay.

Great addition to DTLA. The staff is so nice - reminds me of the mid-west! Small store but they always have what I need. Grooming and training is affordable and they are never crowded so it is an easy in and out. Parking is available and easy to get to but hidden by the current construction next door.

The people that work there are sooo nice, and helpful. It was the first time that I have visited this location. I am very pleased and will gladly refer my friends and family to this location. I like that it is a smaller than average store, also has a place for you to wash your own dog there.

They have a self served self wash! $12. Very convenient! Monday-Saturday they close it at 6pm. Sunday’s they close it at 4pm! Last call for self wash is 30 min before closing hour for the self wash! Staff is always helpful! Very clean store! Always make sure you’re stasfied with your visit!

i went to this petco jan 16th for poopy bags..wen came to checking out the employee rang me up was lazy, uninterested in actually assisting me w the issue i had & method i chose to pay w...seemed annoyed w me in general...i wont be returning to this store for no reason..

Seems like this location took my harsh prior review to heart because there are large curtain style blinds, covering the floor to ceiling windows in front of the betta fish. Even if it wasn’t my review that did it , looks like they care . Took away my prior review .

Convenient location and amazing, friendly staff. The only downside is that it is rather small and very dog centric. The cat toy section is lacking in quality and variety. They do have a larger selection of healthier cat food and car litter so that’s a plus.

They was very nice I went into the store to see if they have shoes for my little doggie but was out of her size and looked at the betta fish but didn't buy one I saw one that I liked but I didn't have enough money to buy him he was a very handsome betta

I like the sales staff, they are very knowledgeable and interested in the care and well-being of all fur babies. I am never disappointed with my purchase and almost always have to ask for assistance in choosing so the credit truly goes to the staff.

Lots of variety and choices here. I loved the fact that the fishes were kept responsibly and no fishes were dead on sight. Seemed to be healthy overall. Had a great experience here, no trouble finding anything overall a great store to shop at.

This place is great! They have a self washing station for your dogs. Its super convenient and cost effective. It is only $10 and they provide you with Shampoo and conditioner. They give you towels, shedding tools, and they have a dryer!

First time at this store. Convenient parking we loved the store! Customer service was excellent. Jennifer our cashier was superb and went out of her way multi-tasking with a smile on her face. Our experience in one word.." Spectacular!

Store staff was so patient and helpful and helped me twice that day because I had to come back to exhlchange sizes. The soft collar was also superior to the rigid collar from the vet and my cat could sleep and move more comfortably.

Small and convenient. Has a lot of supplies for cats and dogs. Has a very small section for exotic animals but I can never find food or toys for my turtle or pet rat. I do get all my cat supplies from this location though.

Small and limited store, we like to use their scale to check our dog’s weight since it’s always broken everywhere else. Make sure you price check on Petco’s app the prices are always cheaper there and they will match it.

This store is always so clean and the staff are SO nice and knowledgeable! I rescued 3 kittens last year and they helped me get the ball rolling! I'd never had cats before so I very much appreciate the Hope St. Petco :)

I went in to buy my pups some jerkey since I work in dtla...not one sales.person around to ask any questions...finally i got to the register and there was no one there either. .had to wait for someone to notice me.

For the small size of the store it's nice. There's training available, but no boarding and the only grooming available is a self service wash. It may be better to leave some room for local business anyway though.

Super small store, no fish supplies at all, all dog and cat stuff with few brands. Defeats the point of big-box one stop shopping. For the limited selection, I'd rather support an independent store in the area.

My doggy got to make some friends while we shopped. We picked out some of his favorite toys, and made him a new collar charm. The staff was very helpful and nice as always. Maui and I were both satisfied! :)

You can't use their restroom while you shopping there. I literally have to run across the street to use the restroom and i don't bother to go back to finish my shopping.

Washing your Dog was fun, but it was supposed to be Free! The shampoo and conditioner they give you smells awful. They charge $15 for a 1/2 hour, that's too expensive.

I returned an item that was sent to me in error. They were very helpful. It also is alot easier for both when you have the correct paperwork to show them the error.
