First off let me start by saying Payless could care less about their service and customers!! So steer clear!! The worst car rental service I’ve ever received!! EVER!! With only myself in line I waited 15minutes for the attendant to come to the front! She comes to the front, on her cell texting. Super distracted, she greeted us three times because she had to finish her text! She takes my name license and credit card and walks away for another 10 minutes! I notice she’s at the other end of the counter with all of my information still in her possession having a conversation with someone I later learned was NOT an employee!! IN THE MIDDLE OF OUR TRANSACTION!!! When she saw me looking at her, she came back up our way and proceeded to do her job. She came back with a key and contract. I asked what kind of car it was and she told me. I told her I didn’t think it’s work because our baby’s car seat has to be rear facing. She snaps at me and asks me, “so you don’t like Chevy cruz’s?!” I replied with the same response. She took the contract and key and left for some additional time span. She came back with a different car key and contract. Mind you she’s had my license and credit card this ENTIRE time in her possession. When she finally came back she finished the process and told us to wait across the street for the car. That entire process inside took about 35min!! My husband and I then proceeded to go outside and wait across the street where she instructed for a total 23 minutes!!! We watched cars and customers from other companies come and go!! My husband went back in at one point to inquire of the whereabouts of our rental due to the fact that we had just traveled for 8 hours with a restless 1 year old and had luggage and a car seat to haul around!! He went back in and said she was not at the rental stand, YET AGAIN. I went back in when he came back out to find her! And where was she?! Talking to the same woman she was in the middle of our transaction! She clearly didn’t work there! I told her I’d been waiting for way too long on my car and she needed to find it! She could see I was highly upset by this point and left her conversation to “figure out where it was”. A young man that saw our frustration said it wasn’t his job but that he could go get the car. He did just that thankfully!! The entire process LITERALLY took an hour!! The desk attendant was so unprofessional and it was evident she could careless how long some people were traveling. I contacted corporate, or at least the number they tell you to contact!! I never received an email the rep Ilene said I would receive. When I called days later to inquire why not, the male rep informed me that I had received a response via email although I never received any form of a response outside of that call. He then proceeded to read me the email response, which sounded like nothing more than the automated response to every customer. I called the branch where the car rental took place to speak with a manager, and no one ever answered the phone. I couldn’t leave a voice mail!!! HORRRRRRIIIIBBBBLLLEEEE service!!! I will never rent from these people again! I suggest any one contemplating their services save themselves the stress and headache!

I arrived at the airport at 11:30am and stood in line until 12:10pm. The car was rented out by 12:20pm and then I was directed to stand outside in the garage and wait for my car, since it should already be waiting for me. I get out to the garage and speak with the attendant named John in the booth. Upon speaking with John I greeted him and told him that I had a blk Ford Ranger and it was the vehicle parked in to the left of his booth. He stated no it's not the vehicle we have for your rental. He stated it would be up shortly for me. So I patiently waited for a car as I stood there for another 32mins just waiting. I then decided to take a walk over to where I saw the truck that I initially pointed to and told John it was the truck assigned to me. I matched the license plate to the contract info and it was the truck that was assigned to me. At this point I went over to John again and asked him to look at my contract and look so he could match me with the vehicle. He got defensive and started to raise his voice saying that's not the truck I am supposed to get and refused to assist me. I told him that I had been waiting for over 45mins just to pick up the truck and it's sitting there already. He still refused to help me John told me it was an inside issue not his problem. At this point I had to go back inside and get a supervisor to assist and it was Emy. She had to leave the counter from inside the terminal and come out to assist with getting me a vehicle. John never apologized for his behavior and even upon Emy coming out side he showed no empathy for my time that was wasted and neither did he take any responsibility for the fact he lost the keys and couldn't locate them. He blamed the driver at first saying they had the keys and when they found the driver he said he gave the keys to John. It was a hot mess, I spent over 3hrs at the airport during a day that I was moving and time was against me. I was charged for 2 full days although I only rented the truck for 1 day.

Waited almost an hour with only 4 people in line when I got there to the desk. Only 2 person staff compared to other rental desks. Had to waite due to customers ahead of me having issues with the vehicle they reserved not being available. Once I got to the desk I experienced the same issue, the SUV or similar I reserved was not available. They advised I would have to wait a minimum of 45 minutes if I wanted a SUV. Due to being on a time frame I had to take a Kia Soul which was tiny .I was advised my the desk person I could take it to Payless near Orange Park, where we were staying, and exchange the Kia for a SUV if they have available. The Kia had no trunk space for my family of 3 I was with could not even fit our luggage in the back. We had to sit a large piece of luggage on my Aunts lap for the ride from Jacksonville to Orange Park. Once I got to Orange Park I searched online for the nearest payless to do a vehicle exchange ( as I was advised to go to) After a long time searching online and a call to the regular 800# for Payless, i found out there is no other Payless near me and Orlando Fl (Hours away) is the closest. I was furious that i was given bad advise/information and wasted my afternoon searching online at my hotel. I called the direct number for the Payless desk at least 20 times in the last 3 days, no answer. Nobody answers. Voicemail box full. Cant even leave a message. I called the 800# for customer service and filed a report on my experience. The gentlemen at the 800# was very kind and gave me a report#. He advised to go into the desk when I drop off the vehicle and see if they will adjust my bill considering I am being charged for Jeep Cherokee or Similar but driving around a small Kia Soul. He advised if they dont do anything to call customer service back. I will never rent from Payless again if they don't make it right with this experience which has been horrible.

Worst experience renting a car ever! We get to Day 3 of our 7 day vacation and a “engine trouble” light comes on in a driving rain storm....we call Payless Road-Side Assistant # that was provided with our car rental information to tell them we wanted to change our our car because we didn’t want to be out driving and have major car trouble. They seemed to be very helpful....although the only place to take it back to swap cars was back st the Jacksonville Airport. She tells us she would call and get everything set up and call me back when she has talked to someone there. She calls back in a few minutes and says everything is taken care of and we were to ask for a “Chris” when we got there. We pull in and my husband goes in...NO Chris works there and they tell him to go outside to where you return the cars and they will swap it out there. He goes all the way out there....to only be told he has to go back in....that they do NOT take care of it out there. . We go back in and no one is at the desk, we go down to another rental company and they go get someone. The same lady that had told my husband to go outside to take care of it comes up and she doesn’t even remember telling him that. ‍♀️ She does change the car out and we go outside and wait at the same place we were told to go the first go round(3 days earlier). She didn’t give us any different instructions this time, so we assumed it was the same. We wait and wait. Then a guy comes up and we ask him about it....he says we have to go to the parking spaces and get the car. We wasted hours of our vacation dealing with this. Will NEVER use this rental company again!!

Rental black electra tag KWG930 From Aug 10 to Aug 13, 2020 at PHL international Airport. I return this vehicle early, however payless was closed at 7PM , arrived at the airport at 7:30 Pm. Call reservation no body could help, me my flight left PHL international at 0630 Aug 13. The office open at 0700 Am. I did not know what to do with the car. The agent from Payless told me to leave the car either with Avis or Budget they did not accept the car. The payless agent told me to take to the parking garage but did not tell me which one. The manager of Budget told me to take the car to Parking Spot garage. when I got there no body was around I secure the car by locking the keys inside and left. The airport is complicated and got lost many times. Finally around 9pm I was able to park the car. I spend a lot of my time searching for a place to leave the rental, I was frustrated and very angry at your service. The office should have told me the operating hour of Payless and a back up plan if they were close. Very bad customer service, and the office in PHL International airport where I pick the rental did not practice social distancing and that also upset me. The office was full of customer and only 1 person at the counter. People should have waited their turn outside the office. I don' know if I ever use your service again or recommended to others, depend on your response and compensation. [email protected]

I was not offered a rental agreement at the time of pick up, only a folded paper with basic info and the rental number. Be careful and avoid the fuel convenience fee of $98+ to obtain a lesser rate on fuel. I did not realize I was enrolled in the option, filled the tank before return. I used 8/10th of a gallon returning the vehicle and was charged $3.02. Basically paid $100 plus for 8/10th gallon of fuel. If the rental agent had notified me of this, I would have made sure he understood I would return the vehicle full which I stated at the time of pick up. Payless also charges for this option if the vehicle isnt exactly the same fuel level. Really?? 8/10 of a gallon?? If they had set the agreement properly, I shouldnt have paid more than $20, still ridiculous. Very disappointed in Payless. No local Customer Service. If you call the local number, it switches you to the national switchboard. The local agent admitted the company removed the phones which gives a customer no option to obtain local information or direction. I also learned to not rent thru a third party vendor like Trivago and the like. The rental cannot be altered by Payless staff. I wanted to drop two days and was unable because of this. A poor experience. I will stick with Enterprise and deal directly with them.

Terrible Terrible experience. Got flat tire on rental car on my way to the airport, trying to get onto departing flght away from Jacksonville. No spare tire in the trunk. I called the number for road emergency service given to me by payless. It showed up 1 h later , picked me and the car. The driver dropped me off at the terminal returned the car at the rental parking. I missed my flight, but united associate was kind enough to set me up with next flight. After that , I tried to reach Payless in Jacksonville by phone with no success for over a week. I created a ticket on their website trying to find out if my rental closed and how much is the charge. Corporate office is helpless. they closed my ticket, saying they sent a letter to the jacksonville location and as soon as they got response from them, they will let me know. it has been over one month I havent heard anything and didnt get a copy of the receipt on my email. In a meanwhile I noticed my credit card was charged extra 400 (I assume that is for that flat tire, can only assume, because didnt get any receipt from payless), and it was posted 3 weeks ago! That is terrible customer service, poor communication between local and corporate office and the customer! never again "payless"

The employee at the checkout counter insisted that I pre-pay for gas. I told her that I wanted to return the car full. I asked if I could decline this option. She did not answer. She kept repeating that if I returned the gas full, then Payless would refund me the $41 charge for prepaying gas. Because this transaction was taking so long, I stopped asking her if I could decline this option. When I returned the car and with a full tank, the employee marked the car as full, but the receipt still showed the $41 charge. I asked him to take it off, but he said he could not because the system would not let him. He told me to get back in the line at the airport and explain the situation to them. So, I had to spend time waiting in the line (which I already did for 30 minutes when I picked up the car) and had to argue for a refund. Eventually, I was given a refund. I believe this whole pre-pay option is a scam by Payless meant to generate more revenue by counting on customers to "forget" about the fee or not notice on the final receipt that it was never refunded. I am providing notice to Payless that this is ripe for a class action lawsuit by some enterprising lawyer that will cause Payless significant damages and attorney's fees.

Absolutely the worst rental car company in the history of rental car companies. I reserved the vehicle online and arrived at the rental desk 38 minutes before my reservation time. I was charge an extra hour ag 32.11 per hour on top of my daily reservation. I also waited in line for 35 minutes. I had reserved an additional 2 days reservation online in addition. The person at the counter acted like it would be fine to keep the same car without returning the vehicle. I looked at the rental agreement and learned they didn’t put the extra 2 days on there. I called the local 904 number to clear things up. I waited on hold 27 minutes the first time and the person hung up on me after he asked for my name. I called back to wait another 33 minutes. The person explained they could not extend the current rental and I had to return to the jax location to extend my rental. The same vehicle level was chosen on both rentals. So 1.5 hours away and I have to drive back there and back to my vacation spot. Nothing like spending 4 hours in the middle of your day dealing with this. In the end nothing changed except waiting in line at the airport for the exchange. Over this rental car company.

I should really give them 0 stars but unfortunately that's not an option. I reserved a car but the guy at the counter told me that they didn't have the car that I reserved available but he would upgrade me at no charge. I was a bit hesitant but he reassured me that there would be no addtl charge for the upgrade. I needed the car for a little longer than expected & called to extend the vehicle & spoke to the same guy at the counter who said he would notate it in the system. The entire cost of the vehicle with the extension was supposed to be $208 when I returned the vehicle it ballooned to $627. Long story short the guy at the counter LIED. He lied about the upgrade fees & he never extended the car. The guy had been doing so much fraudulent activity that he was FIRED from Payless. I've called their customer service number & no one is willing to help me & after explaining the situation several csr reps(Israel & a female rep) hung up on me. I WILL NEVER USE THIS COMPANY OR EVEN RECOMMEND IT TO MY WORST ENEMY.

Although I had reserved a car there were no cars available when I reached the airport to pick it up. After waiting for cars to be returned so I could have one I was offered a car that had been smoked in, which I accepted as there were no other alternatives. After I was underway I realized the check engine light was on. By the time I reached my destination the break fault light was also on. As the key and paperwork both said "Budget" I tried to exchange the car at the local Budget office. I was told I would need to drive all the way to Orlando to a Payless branch to exchange the car. I did not feel safe driving the car that distance so I decided to get the car picked up. It took me two nights and multiple hours on hold, with my call being repeatedly dropped to get the car picked up. I was then charged for nearly the full cost of the 14 day rental. After a further 20 min on hold and 36 min call the charges were reduced to the cost of a 6 day rental for the 3 days I had a smelly undriveable car.

i wish I could write a review that gets sent to every single person on this planet, just so Payless Car Rental wouldn't get a drop of anyone's hard earned money. The customer service is horrible!!! They are suppose to refund your deposit back once you return the car and they do all of their inspections. Here it is two weeks later and I have NOTHING! I spoke to a gentleman last week (did not get his name) he was able to give me a case number and said someone would call me back with assistance. They never did so I called again today and spoke to Anna. SHE WAS USELESS. I gave her my case number and she was only able to tell me I'm on a list and someone would call me. That's not good customer service!! I want someone to get to the bottom of this and return my money!! Is there a huge list of people that your company is so busy screwing over that you can't get to me?? Where are the managers in this place because clearly the supervisors aren't doing their jobs.

Often negative reviews directly result from frustration. While I am frustrated with Payless Car Rental company as an entity, one individual - the person I engaged with was terrific. I waited for nearly an hour and witnessed many angry consumers approach the counter angrily, each noting how long they waited in line and how the wait impacted their travel plans. Regardless Cindy greeted each person with a smile, hitting the restart button on customer service. Her ability to focus only on the person in front of her and not allow the previous negative energy to extend to each new person is heroic. Cindy was cheerful and went out of her way to ensure my car rental experience was good, and for her alone, the place received five stars. NOW, if you rent a car with Payless, remember you're getting what you pay for. Payless vehicles are usually more affordable to rent, but those savings come at a cost.

I rented a car at Payless though a second agency weeks before my trip When I came for my car rental at the scheduled 9:30 pm time I was told that they would not have a car for 4 hours. [They closed in 3 1/2 hours]. I went back to the desk 2 hours later and was told they would not have cars until at least 6 am. I saw several people return cars and were asked if they returned them to the Hertz lot. I returned at 6am and was told they still didn't have cars. They finally had a car for me [about 9 hours late and with a downgrade]. I was sent to the hertz lot where there were many cars to pick up my rental. I was told by the person at the service desk that Payless was not responsible because I rented through a second party. All of the Payless workers were very rude. I have had other bad experiences but this was the worst compelling me to write my first Google review.

Customer service is terrible. I’d give ZERO stars if I could. No one works at the Payless counter. The people from budget calls me over and says that no one from Payless is here; but they work with Payless customers since it’s the same company. Originally I ordered a mid size from Priceline for $182 for the week with Payless. I get to Jax airport, and no one at the counter is working at Payless. Budget calls me over and says they can help with Payless. Just so happens that budget had an order request from me but it was a compact size. I showed them my email, and how it said midsize and they told me my email was wrong. I needed a compact size. Needless to say, I got hammered for $159 more, and Payless told me I got a car from budget and not them. So they won’t uphold the price. Talk about a scam. Stay away from Payless.

Very disorganized! I don't know who's idea it is to keep Payless, Budget, and Avis as separate brands within the same company, but it's a total mess. To start, Budget and Payless are right next to each other, but there is no one at the Payless desk, you have to wait for someone from Budget to finish helping customers there and come over to help you and the adjacent desk. Then, they don't have the car you reserved available; so, your choice is to wait around for one or to take something else. The car was fine. Retuning the car is another mess, the signs are tiny makeshift arrow signs that lead you to drive around in circles before you are forced to find someone to ask where to go which is, surprise, Budget's return area. Seriously, why don't you just call it all Budget and make yours and your customers' life easier??

First off....very hard to find "Payless rental Desk"....Don't look for "Payless " signs. Look for "Avis/Budget signs .....Payless is owned by Avis/Budget. Payless/Avis/Budget rental desk is on lower level by baggage pickup next to "Door # 3"......I hope this helps someone!!! I was lost at pickup of my rental car....very confusing!!! Now.... about my rental truck. The Glass on passenger window was broken at pickup and I rented this truck to pickup equipment in Atlanta (7 hour drive each way) . When I get to Atlanta, I realized the back seat was broken and It would not lay down. This negated the reason I had rented this truck in the first place. This is unexceptable !!! You should be doing some kind of check list before renting vehicle out.....both for operation and for safety.

I went with the cheapest option...shame on me. There was NO ONE at the counter when arrived to pick up my rental. Then he tells me "it's at the back." NO ONE in the parking garage could even FIND "Payless" cars. 15 minutes of searching later, I found the car at the furthest possible point from where I was. "The back" actually looks like a completely different garage when you're walking around with a toddler and all your bags. Anyway...Get my car, it's missing a visor. I think, surely they know. When I returned the car the Budget person gave me a receipt and did NOT WANT my gas receipt. She checked the car out and sent me on my way. ONE MONTH LATER I notice a $75 charge from "Payless Virginia Beach" on my checking account. Getting in touch with anyone is still in process...

On my first rental with you guys I was overcharged I booked the vehicle online for $18 per day when I went to pick the vehicle up I was told I can upgrade for an additional $10 per day totaling $28 per day plus tax and fees. And reality I was being charged $50 per day I called customer service in regards to this situation I was told someone would get back with me and up until today's date I have not been reach back out at. Also in reference to this vehicle a green Chrysler 300 the front desk ref told me that the vehicle was filled with gas after looking at the gas level the next morning the level was on half of a tank me not catching this when I pick the vehicle up I should have called and then but nevertheless I returned the vehicle with a full tank.

Staff on site (airports) friendly and helpful with the process. Agent on the phone hard to understand and not very friendly. Refused to provide me with an updated bill. Charges incurred were not upfront and forthright. Never received an estimate that I could review. Was never given an exact daily rate. Was charged a different daily rate when we had to add days because our flight was cancelled. Was charged $160+ in "fees" that were not communicated to me when I picked up the vehicle. Other than the way the billing is handled, the experience was great, the vehicle was top notch and super clean, staff was friendly and helpful with pick up and drop off. I don't mind paying the bills, I just wish they were forthright with disclosing actual costs.

Worst experience every, my daughter picked up the car for us in Denver, it was her first time picking up a rental car by herself. They completely railroaded her and charged an additional $273 on her credit card. I tried to call both pick up location (which you can't speak to anyone there) and the 800 # and they told me there is no one to speak with I could only communicate through email. After reading all these horrible reviews now I know why. I wish I saw these prior to booking the them but it seems that this is the practice of Payless Car rental. Very disappointing. The rental went from 425.00 to 700.00 . If I could give 0 stars I would!!! I hope others read these reviews before booking with them!!!

My boss' flight was rerouted and delayed to JAX on 1/17, so I called the local Payless Rental Car agency to let them know but no answer, told to leave a voicemail but then system said memory was full. So, I called their 800 number and relayed the updated information to them, who stated they would inform the JAX location. When he arrived, already tired from a long day of flight delays and changes, he had to wait an hour at the counter to get their car, which was smaller than reserved, and despite the above and having the reservation in hand. I've rented a few times with them, over 3 in the last year. Prices were cheaper, but had to wait a couple times over 45 min in garage for vehicle. Vehicles were nice, but always had damage. One time, the car had a really bad dent into back door and back fender area. This one I rejected though, it was pretty bad and never should have been a rental car at any decent rental agency. But I have always had dents and scratches from this rental company that was really noticeable. I always take pictures in garage before driving away, just incase they would blame me. I have had no problems with them. Normally cheaper prices, but for me, always dents and scratches around vehicle.

Worst customer service ever!!!!! No one was at the counter and had to wait. took several minutes for some one to acknowledge me. The young lady was extremely rude and you could barely understand her and was having a conversation with another young lady while attending me. Finding the car was another nightmare.All she said was walk to the back. I had to ask another agent to help me find the car. when it came time to return the vehicle, again no one there. i had to call customer service to let them know that i had returned the vehicle because there was no one at the counter. i checked my bill and i was completely overcharged. Never again will i ever rent from payless!!!!

Rented in Jacksonville, FL. Got a flat within first 30 minutes of driving, a Volkswagen Jetta. Changed out tire and took back the next day. They changed out the car for a Dodge Challenger which was an upgrade at no cost. No hassle. Except for burning (and having to pay for) gas and making an extra trip to the airport, all went well. They had no other closer locations in the city. Budget/Avis/Payless are all affiliated. The local number in Jacksonville was disconnected. The envelope I was given had Budget on it. I tried to call for roadside assistance but it would have taken longer than changing the flat myself. They seemed to be unsure what to do on the phone.

Worst experience ever! Payed 350+ USD for a 2 week car rental but my flight got delayed. Because I didn't pick it up until 23h or so, they kept my car and the money even though I did tell them my connecting flight had been cancelled and I'd just be there on the next day to pick it. If the car has been reserved and payed for for two weeks, how can they rent it to someone else?? Making double profit at my expense! And their customer support only works over the web. Over the phone they ask you to use the web....Do yourself a favour and use other rental companies. Most of the others I've used at the same location never caused any trouble to me..

I arrived Sunday 11/24 at Boston Logan Airport at approx 12:45 pm. There was not an employee manning the counter for 15 minutes. The person at the Budget counter was nice and offered to go look for him. He finally showed up, no apology. The interaction was the worst hospitality experience in my life. He told me where to initial and sign, gave me the envelope with the parking spot on it, and it felt like he was done with me. I went to the garage and could not find the car in the spot. I pressed the buttons on the car remote and found it in another spot. I know the price is good, but is it worth the experience.

Avoid doing business with Payless Car Rental, if you can. They are unorganized, they will charge you for insurance even if you decline it, and they have a non-working printer which means no receipts for your records. I was charged for a special kind of insurance that I didn't want the day I picked up the car. Went back to the counter to get that adjusted. When I dropped the car off, I wanted a printed receipt of what I was charged, the young lady nonchalantly told me "it's not gonna let me print it....whats your email address..." Really?! Payless Car Rental Managers, please get your stuff together ASAP!!!!!!!

I am truly impressed with the amount of care the staff at this location has for their customers. I dropped off a car around 4pm today November 9th and accidentally left my expensive headphones under the seat! I left a message and then decided to go in person to check. I arrived around 5pm and spoke with the employee "Momo" who got my information and the other team member "Gayle" who quickly located my item. These two are truly a magnificent addition to this company. They were caring and honest and made me feel at ease and taken care of in a stressful situation. Will definitely be a returning customer. Upon Arrival your kiosk was closed with no directions to go to budget, your Budget girl gave me specific but incorrect direction to the car pool, then upon drop off your sign was the smallest and placed in a different spot the all other rental agency's and no attendant was there in the drop off area, I stayed in my car and waited because I had extra time , but I watched several customers in a panic walking around looking for someone to leave keys etc. With. Car was good but my end price was higher then original quote. For these reasons I may consider another company besides PAYLESS or budget

We booked a rental car from Payless through Southwest Airlines two months in advance of our 10 day vacation in Florida. Due to a major storm in the northeast our flight was cancelled and our arrival date was delayed by two days. However, because of the delay we were charged 62 percent more to rebook a vehicle for 8 days instead of the original 10. I believe under the circumstances this was poor customer service as our rate should have at least stayed the same even though we were renting the vehicle for less days. Will look for other options for future car rental needs.

Absolutley the worst experience ever! First, there was no representative at the booth and i waited and made phone calls to try and reach a representative. I was then informed (AFTER WAITING 20 minutes) that i would need to get in line with the budget car rental folks...i then had to wait over an hour to make it to the front of the line to be waited on; To make matters even more laughable, customer service reps were rude and didn't show any attempts at urgency to get things moving. Do yourself a favor and spend your hard earned time and money somewhere else.

Terrible slick cuatomer service. The clerk asked if I wanted all this extra stuff. My answer was no. She did her job to try to upsale. I said no. She took it upon herself and added all this extra stuff. The clerk who accepted the car back was super nice. She also spilled the beans to "check behind people because they will act like they didn't hear you and add things anyway". Smh Well needless to say what I booked online was not what I ended up with. The car wasn't good either. Dodge dart. Yuck! Not renting from these folks again. I did get my total fixed.

Absolutely HORRIBLE experience!!! Waited over 1.5 hours for my vehicle, which was double booked and when the gentleman arrived the gave him the vehicle and kept me waiting. The supervisor arrived and attended the customers that had just arrived then took care of myself and the 2 couples that were waiting before me. She tossed, yes TOSSED, the keys to an alternate vehicle and said "it's bigger, stop your whining". I will NEVER, rent or recommend this company. Reserved a full size car at JAX. Arrived and were told they only had one compact car or it would be a wait for another to be brought up and "that a car is a car". We were also told it would cost $1/day to attach our frequent flier number to the reservation. Received our car in fairly quickly. Were told a toll road transponder was not necessary in FL. Hope we are not charge then for Turnpike tolls. No windshield fluid in reservoir. Returned car at MCO. Left a jacket on back seat. Cannot get lost and found to answer phone!

Scheduled my rental car when I got my airplane tickets - seamless experience. Picked up in Jacksonville and returned in Orlando - super easy and staff got me right on my way! I can't say if the price was reasonable because I've never rented a car for vacation before, but it was so worth it to me!! No one had to pick me up or take me to the airport and I could come and go as I pleased. The car was clean, like new, fuel efficient, ran excellent - perfect little car for just me. Great experience!!

JUST DONT!!!! Line shared with Avis and Budget. Waited in line for an hour and another hour for vehicle to be ready. After two returns to counter received a diff vehicle. Oh anddddd they make you prepay fuel and say that when you return it the charge will drop off. It didn’t. When you call customer service they ask a bunch of questions and you better have your receipt!! I had to create an account and submit my receipt and hopefully will have it reversed in 3-5 days!! It’s a scam!!!

Awful company. Weeks after my rental they send me a bill for 75.00 for some damage. Called them 3 times and they weren't able to even tell me what the damage wa . Had to dispute the charge with my credit card company tonget their attention. They told me the damage was a door weather seal rubbe . There was no damage to anything when I returned the car. They give you the cheap deal then try to make up by making up some bogus damage. This happened in Jacksonville airport

Should be zero stars. Horrible experience at JAX airport - 2 hours on line to get my reserved car. Only one person at counter and then no one at counter for 10 minutes. Did not have my compact car - got gas guzzler SUV instead. Car was filthy inside and out. Was only topped off w gas. Car had slight damage - was told to take a photo. Was given wrong info about e-toll (told there was a $14.95 service charge for ever toll. Never again for Payless or their affiliates.

Horrible pick up and return process. The staff was no help and rude. The car that was reserved isn't car we got so when we returned the process was to long because they couldn't find the rental car under our name for return. So checking in for flight was delayed 20 minutes. Upon returning the car it has to parked way to far for a handicapped elderly person to walk to the terminal. My father in law just lost his wife and was traveling with us and is disabled.

We originally had reserved a rental with Thrifty, however when we arrived we were told they did not have any compact cars and we were 1.5hrs early for our reservation. We ended up at the Payless/Budget counter and were assisted immediately by Nicole. Nicole was able to not only get us a rental, but got us a Toyota 4Runner for less than a compact car at thrifty. Great experience. Professional, helpful and friendly service by Nicole!

Both picking up and dropping off was incredibly slow. The car was great, but next time I will probably use a different car company because of the amount of time I spent here. I also tried to call a couple times to adjust my rental as my plans changed. I could never get through to anyone on the corporate or local line. When I tried to talk to the agent about it they said they couldn’t do anything because a manager was not on duty.

I have never experienced such commitment to absolutely screwing consumers over. Day after day they are charging $200+ per day while not having sufficient cars or staff so you wait 2-3 hours to get a car assigned to you and another hour + to oick uo your car. The employees just shrug because every day is like this here. This business should be shut down and ownership investigated. Its price gouging while not paying workers.

The agents were rude gave us a mini van instead of an economy car when we were traveling a distance and gas mileage was a factor the van was very dirty with wrappers old cups receipt’s and dirt and the fuel was on Empty and the agent said she was too busy and couldn’t send anyone out to do the walk around so we could show the scratches dents and broken windshield before leaving

The customer service is horrible and non-existent; they will not answer your calls once you pull away from the facility. If you attempt to extend the vehicle, be prepared to pay twice as much than the original rental. The car selection is limited and the hidden fees are shocking! Stay with the main car rental companies - you may pay a few bucks more, but you get what you pay for and won't be disappointed in the end!

Do not. I repeat. Do NOT rent from this Budget/Avis/Payless location. You will be waiting 2+ hours for a car. And that is AFTER waiting for an hour to check in. Once a car pulls up, you’ll be lucky if you receive a road worthy car or one that doesn’t smell like cigarette smoke or weed. Falsely charged me for smoking in the car when I didn't. $250 fine that they won't reverse. Local agency tried to cover up someone else smoking by saying it was me, when I have never smoked in my life. HORRIBLE customer service, and I will NEVER use them again. I suggest you do the same. We walked up to the terminal Payless desk, got our keys, walked over and got the car and headed to the beach. Car was perfect for the beach, then drove down to the ballgame and back. Spent one more day at the beach and headed back to the airport. Dropped the car off. Put the keys on top. Got an email receipt the next day. Perfect. This was a great value and service for this trip.

Make certain that you check your receipt or save yourself the hassle and rent from somewhere else. Attempted to charge us $80 to refuel a full tank. Customer service in person was terrible. Waited at desk for fifteen minutes before any staff were visible; our reserved car type was unavailable; attempted to charge for an upgrade even though our reservation was unavailable.

Poor service.... An out of town guest made reservations weeks ago and shows up to pick up her vehicle. There is a long line and some customers have been waiting over an hour then the only employee is taken over to the Budget counter. I guess there's a reason they're payless because you're getting no service...cheaper is definitely not better...

If you have to return your car early in the morning (5am) then expect to have all kinds of issues getting your rental finalized and closed out. Rented a car in Jacksonville Fl on feb 8th looked at cc statement today and got a $450 charge on the 26th they said because they had to vacuum pet hair up. Thieves is all they are. Payless is a customer service disaster. I have a question about toddler car seat. It would be impossible to to get more of a run around. I've called Jax location 100 times and no one answers. Ever. I call main line, and they tell me to call Jax location. Just skip this place and go to another rental car location.

I waited in the cold garage for over 30 minutes before valet finally brought the truck.. then I get across town and realized they gave me a truck with a air leak in the tire and had to go back and swap truck out because roadside assistants had me on hold for a hour. For the sake of your wallet and sanity, avoid at all costs. You get invoiced with one thing and then they slap a charge of 1.5x what your original invoice was on top of it. Would’ve been cheaper to just Uber at this point. This type of hidden charges practice needs to be made illegal.

If there was a way to give less than 1star I would. Went to the Jax airport to pickup my rental 12 passenger van. NO ONE at the counter. Called customer no-service and had to cancel. Lesson learned cheapest is not always the best choice. Very poorly run operation
