Melbourne is known for its parks and gardens and the Parliament Gardens are although small, no less beautiful. The location is right next to Parliament House but also opposite the Princess Theatre and Parliament Railway Station with of course trams running out the front. It's on the corner so triangular in shape but big bang on a place to lie on the lovely green grass, listen to the sound of the fountain and soak up Melbourne. Withinthe park is a memorial for two of the most prominent indigenous leaders of Australia; Pastor Sir Douglas and Lady Gladys. Plus there is also included with the memorial an artwork by Ngarra Murray. The Coles Fountain which was built in 1981 attracts many people during the warmer months with its cascading curtain of water. I find the sound very tranquil and inviting, especially when the ducks come to visit and bring their ducklings. There are park benches, water fountain and plenty of bins. Notes: Wheelchair accessible. Kid friendly. No bikes to be ridden through the park.

Yet another one of Melbourne's beautiful gardens and like a number of these, being right on the edge of the city and hence within walking distance of the CBD, it's the perfect place for city workers to get away from their desks, have lunch, go for a stroll and stretch their legs, or just relax in a beautiful garden sanctuary setting during their breaks. It small but has good seating and grassed areas and a feature walk in fountain. It's also well maintained and just the perfect place to chillax. Well done Melbourne! With o many gardens like this, it really is no wonder that it's so often rated as the most livable city in the world. Another feature of the Parliament Gardens is the Memorial to Pastor Sir Douglas and Lady Gladys Nicholls.

Smallish park located on the edge of the Melbourne CBD with wide grassy areas, flower gardens and a fountain that sadly wasn’t working when I visited one winter afternoon. Maybe save a trip here for the warmer months to see it in all its splendour. Close to other large parks such as Fitzroy Gardens if you’re in the mood for a walk.
Picnic area
No allocated picnic area as such, but plenty of space on the grassy lawns to relax.

Another gem of a park in Melbourne. There’s bins and tap water but not much else. What it does have is the showstopper Coles fountain, built in 1981. Still on a sunny day there aren’t many picturesque places in Melbourne than this place. Unless you’re one of the lucky ones to find parking on Albert Street, best way to get here is via Parliament station or via tram (Parliament Stop 10).

This garden is very peaceful and tranquil. It's surrounded by busy streets howeve. The water fountain as well as the sounds of the magpies, ducks and the lorikeets provide a very calming atmosphere. There are lots of place for you to sit down and read a good book as well. It's not a particularly busy garden as well, being rather small and hidden, not many people come here.

DELIGHTFUL PUBLIC GARDENS ON EDGE OF CITY CENTRE Parliament Gardens is just off the Hoddle Grid near Parliament House. It's large and has beautiful open spaces and huge trees with plenty of space for ball games (volleyball is popular here), walking, reading a book on one of the many seats or sitting by the water fountain. It's not fenced off so you can enter at any time.

It's a peaceful and beautiful garden next to the Parliament House. The circular fountain is very distinctive and attractive. Standing in its center, closing your eyes and listening to the sound of the surrounding flowing water, it feels like being in the midst of a waterfall in a mountain forest.

Really cool spot to relax and hang out near the Parliament house. There's a cool statue with a lot of history within the gardens that's kind of cool to see. Lots of benches in the area with a lot of greenery to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

A great little sanctuary on the corner if you need a break from the concrete jungle just over the road. garden always kept in meticulous order. Summer is the best when the fountain is on, but even on a cold grey day its glorious to reconnect

Beautiful little gardens to stroll through or relax on the grass! Loved the fountain and the gorgeous garden - with parsley throughout if you want to pick some to add to dinner! Not busy either so a nice little sanctuary from the busy city.

Nice gardens to sit, relax and watch the world. Also a great place for the kids to cool off on hot day. The overhead sprinklers turn on frequently. From here it's a short stroll to Melbourne CBD or the Exhibition building and gardens.

Parliament Gardens Fountain is the only walk in fountain in Melbourne. Yes it's possible to walk right into the middle of the pouring water and not get wet... well, almost :) Visit you will love it!

Good place to walk around, take a seat for lunch. Always see people laying on the grass. Nice fountain in the middle of the park. Sometimes undesirable like people gather but appear harmless.

Amazing setting sun and the garden with a showering water fountain turns it into a fun place for selfies, families photos and the water splashing for the children.
