This place is a historic landmark. With that said, they can't do too much renovation - and they haven't. It is nice to see the historical architecture, but the seats are very small and packed in. I'm 5'3" and had to sit sideways to fit my knees. It definitely smells old. There is a bar at the entrance and another downstairs where the restrooms are located. No food sold, only candy. Careful going down the stairs, the halls aren't very well lit, and the steps are steep and made for small feet. The bathrooms are old and smelly. Look up, and you can see people standing above you at the entrance (through glass "bricks"). I've seen a concert and stand-up comedy here. For the stand-up, the lighting was terrible/stage was very dark - we couldn't see the comedian's face (we were on the floor, not far from the stage). Don't know if they didn't want the spotlight or if the lighting person forgot. The sound was a little off, as well. Very sharp treble. Not sure I would see another show here. It would have to be something special.
Older theater in a historic theater-neighborhood of downtown Los Angeles. Close to Pershing Square on Red or Purple Metro. You can see how luxurious the theater once was. Still has painted panels, although faded, and some great carved wall and ceiling decorations. Main curtain in good shape, but older curtains up high have seen better days. Acoustics quite good. If it could be redone, it would be amazing, but sure it would be cost exorbitant. Nice place to intimately see good acts. We saw Walk Off the Earth in February of 2020 -- excellent act, full of fun and action with creative ways of playing numbers. Very energetic -- felt we'd gotten our ticket price easily in entertainment value.
We went here to attend a concert. The place has such an authentic feel to it. Built in 1911, it will surely transport you back to the days of vaudeville. I'm a huge admirer of art and architecture, and this was certainly no exception. I did notice that it could use some upkeep for obvious reasons...it's a very old place. Nonetheless, a place worth visiting.
I enjoy nostalgia and the Palace has you dreaming if these walls could talk. A smaller venue that is perfect for an up close and personal experience to enjoy your favorite artist. The staff was accommodating and the seating was surprisingly comfortable. The theater district is scenic and I would appreciate it being cleaned up.
Went for the Matt Rife show, it was an overall good experience. As with most of his shows you can expect drunk girls heckling and trying to get his attention. As the headliner I was disappointed that his set was only 15 minutes. There were many other great performers, but expected the main act to be a bit longer.
I attended a concert here a few weeks ago. Sadly, the establishment has seen better days. However, the people that worked as staff were very nice and you can easily see the magic that was once there. It's just needing a little touch-up. This is a great venue to see any performer.
Beautiful historical theatre. I attended a Cinespia event (my first one at this location). It was a lot of fun. The theatre is ornate worth breathtaking detail. The downside would be the seats are small and very close together.
No drinks allowed in but none for sale -- not even a single water fountain. We sat for hours with no drinks. It's sort of beat up but also warm inside. Skip it if you can.
