The worst Amtrak experience I've ever had. Let me start by saying that I grew up taking the Amtrak to Chicago. Weekend trip? Let's take the train. In all my travels, I have only ever had one minor issue with the travel and it was resolved. My sister and I were visiting friends in San Diego and we decided to take the Amtrak Pacific Surfliner up to Los Angeles for a few days. We hopped on the 12:05 PM train from Santa Fe Depot. We made it a little over an hour on our trip until we were stopped in San Juan Capistrano. There was an accident involving the train ahead of us on the tracks. The attendant that was aboard the train told us that she didn't know how long we would be there, so she lifted our ticket and let us get off the train for lunch. That was cool. We had lunch at El Adobe de Capistrano and visited the mission. However, we came back and the train still hadn't moved and there were no updates. Everyone was restless and tired and we sat there for hours. They had Dominos pizza delivered and anyone on the train was welcome to eat it. That was cool too. However, at around 8 PM they informed all of the passengers that we needed to get off the train and board a bus. So we did. The bus took us to Irvine, which was a little north of where we were. However, once we were in Irvine, it was dark and had gotten cold and there was no place to sit. My sister and I sat on a concrete ledge, and when we sat down, cockroaches crawled out. I called Amtrak and they told me they could not help me until my travels were complete and that I could call back the next day. Hours later, THE SAME TRAIN THAT WE HAD ALREADY BEEN ABOARD IN SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO CAME AND PICKED US UP IN IRVINE. Yes, the SAME train that we had been told to get off of earlier in the day. We were livid. Why would they force us off the train, tell us to take a bus to Irvine, and make us sit outside with cockroaches just to come and pick us all back up again? We got to LA Union Station after 10:30 PM. Not a single Amtrak representative or employee apologized for the inconvenience. My sister and I had tickets to events in LA that afternoon and evening. We missed a whole day and lost all of that money because of Amtrak. I had to call three times before someone was willing to hear me out. They refunded the price for the ticket from San Diego to LA, but did not offer compensation for the money that we lost on the events that we missed. Furthermore, I'd like to reiterate that NOT A SINGLE PERSON apologized for the inconvenience.

Surfliner provided rail connections from San Diego to Los Angeles Union Station. Most scenic views are from west-facing side of cars. Best seats are next to double windows. Following boarding announcement, passengers line up in covered passageway in order of arrival. In order to secure best seats (west side of car) get in line as quickly as possible following announcement. Coffee service is available on Pacific Surfliner (exception: during equipment availability ‘challenges’ following track side landslides). Lots of overhead space for small to medium size baggage. Larger bags can be stored adjacent to stairway leading to exits on first level.

Cost effective, comfortable, fast method of travel in so cal. Took this train from LA union Station to San Diego (old town) for a visit to San Diego. Flew into LAX bc the tickets were cheaper/flight options best. They have a shuttle that takes u to the station for free, it rounds every 30 mins. They had multiple train rides for that day departing almost every hour. The 2.5 hr ride was comfortable and the views were amazing especially once you reach the coast around oceanside. Definitely recommend

My first time in business class seating was amazing! The attendant Anderson..tall dark handsome guy was super attentive, caring and polite! Being in the customer service business for years and understanding how hard it can be to deal with some, I can tell he is dedicated, professional and proficient. Good job Anderson for how ever long you have worked for pacific liners and thank you so much for the amazing service! I hope this doesn’t go unnoticed☺️

We took a short trip from Oceanside to San Diego (the Santa Fe) on a Sunday and it was pretty smooth! But my most favorite thing about this trip is: the kid meal!!! It’s $5! The best 5 bucks I’ve ever spent! Look how many items in that box! We got a drink, snacks (a lot of snacks) and mini toys. Suggest parents with young kids take this short trip and the kids shall totally enjoy it without whining!

The overall experience was pretty good, but I was kind of disappointed with how little information was shared about the boarding process up until 5 minutes before our departure and that we were shuffled onto the train with the windows obscured by an overwrap and didn't realize until after a couple stops that we could have moved to any car. Also, carpets on the train could use a serious cleaning!

This train is constantly running late. When I asked an attendant at Union station they were very rude. Complete waste of money and time. This here is a prime reason why people will never stop driving cars i LA. The service is a complete and utter joke.

Alex checking our tickets brought símiles all around. Wonderful employees are not rare aboard the Pacific Surfliner. The trip from LA to SD and back is a great deal, wonderful Pacific ocean views, comfortable seats at a bargain.

The Pacific Surfliner was the embodiment of my vision for. A retreat to the Southern California area. I have seen the views of my life and now know what others are missing! Come surf!

The worst travel experience of my life. They stopped the train twice and we went to los angles via Uber(life saver) with passengers. Armtrak is rubbish but the view of route awesome

It was the best public transportation seat I've ever had. The view of the Pacific Ocean was wonderful. The steps up to the passenger seats were intimidating for an old guy.

The Solana Beach Chamber of Commerce is proud to have Pacific Surfliner (Amtrak) as a member and appreciate all they do for the community!

Great views as you train along the coast. Great way to get from LA to SLO. The interior of the train could be a little nice/more premium.

  • dennis rutkowski

Can't take bikes on this stretch of track going north from San Diego to Irvine PLUS Solana Beach Station is closed!! Wassup with Amtrak?

  • Troy Dodgion

Used to be great but the past couple of months the train is ALWAYS over an hour late every time.

  • Fuck Boy

Why buy a car when someone else can do the driving for you.
