0 stars. Nightmare. Avoid if you can. Unreasonable wait times ( 8+ hours), expected wait times keep increasing, Triage nurse is cold, selfish, petty, and cruel. She lacks empathy and basic bed side manners. It was a very unpleasant experience with unreliable wait times. The expected wait time when we arrived was 3 hrs and 40 min. This turned into a 5.5hrs wait to get into the urgent care hallway, only to be sitting and waiting again with 7 people still ahead of me. One person who was already placed in a room there was waiting for 9 hours and begging for an update of when she’d be seen by a doctor. I had no idea I would be waiting this long and when we asked a nurse for a wait estimate, after waiting for nearly 6 hrs, she looked at us almost in ridicule and said that we can expect our wait to be similar to that person who’s been waiting for 9 hours. As if that wait time is something to be proud of! And as if a nearly 6 hours wait was nothing! They are not honest about the wait times and they don’t care about you or how much pain you might be in or how critical your condition is. There was an elderly woman on the floor for hours gasping, crying, and begging for medical attention. She wanted to lie down on a bed in one of the rooms and was yelled at that these rooms are for other people. No one helped her. I never got to see the doctor because I couldn’t wait any longer. If I’m going to be in pain, discomfort, and invisible, I figured I might as well be at home, and if I bleed out or pass out then an ambulance will probably get me seen faster than waiting in the ER. What is the point of free universal healthcare if you cannot receive medical care in a timely manner?! I would gladly accept a 4hr wait if that meant I would actually see a doctor in 4hrs. Things need to change.
It was my first time visiting the hospital in emergency since moving to this province. I had bad respiratory problems (not covid) and came here after 6 days of suffering. I was seen very quickly, about half an hour wait in the initial emergency room, then moved to RAZ (Rapid advance section), waited maybe 3 minutes, went to get x-rays then the last wait was maybe 40 minutes back at RAZ. The doctor I had was extremely friendly and kind, after hearing I was on hormones asked my preferred name and apologized for not knowing, I reassured him that I didn't mention it so it's okay. I hope he knows how much that meant to me. The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is the Triage. When I was sent there the nurse was so unbelievably rude, demanding and unaccommodating especially when it said in my record I was in because I could not breathe or speak very well. She was forcing me to repeat things over and over causing my breathing to worsen because she could not hear. She didn't even listen when I said please give me a moment to catch my breath. I don't know why you would bother working in health care if you don't even read the reason why someone is in the hospital in the first place. Thank god the rest of the staff were polite and respectful. But please take a look at the Triage nurses. I wouldn't want that to be my first step into service, doesn't leave a great impression.
If I could I will gave them 0 star or -1 star I will do that. My boyfriend got serious fever for over 24hrs. He can’t really get rid of it that’s why we decided to come here(to be honest, I am keep telling him even he go to the hospital he won’t got any help, but he still wanna go there and hope to get some professional treatment) Finally, he finished all the registrations (three different widows, and we back to main waiting room). We are truly understanding that how busy they are, but my boyfriend is like almost passed out… dizzy, short of breath… believed me when they ask him his mother’s last name, he need to think about it for a minute…. That can tell how sick he was now. so he need me with him, and kind of support him…but the lady at first register window was telling me “if I was you, I’m won’t be there, it’s not safe, and that area it’s for patients only” so I told her, I don’t care and also because I have no other options… he need me right?? Ann then she’s saying because everyone did same way likes me that’s why so many sick people now… I was like: ?? Please think about this way, if you lovely families got sick you will leave them alone?? I still understand what she trying to say, but just like I’m saying I HAVE NO OTHER CHOICE!! So just keep quiet and leave us alone. If she can not help him right away then please keep quiet.
This Hospital emergency section doesnt even get 1 star from me and I am a Veteran, I had to give 1 star. Go to Smith Falls, or anywhere out of Ottawa people, smaller hospitals are faster and 90 per cent friendlier. Dont waste ur time here at this hospital. We sat there, not even a Nurse came for over 8 hrs, even when my Daughter sat in the back area, I was not allowed to go back (like in prisons), it was unreal, the nurse wasn't friendly and the guy, whoever he was, the secy or something told us to talk somewhere else. I think I was interrupting their chat about what they were gonna do when they got home. I was actually ingaged in conversation with the Nurse, that's why I was standing there!!! Unacceptable. So weird. So unfriendly, don't know where the Doctors were all night, half of the people just left. We sat there for 8 hrs and the staff had no clue when we would be seen, none and they were very uninterested as to why. They kept putting everyone in front of us. I have never experienced something like this ever and I have been to alot of emerg places through the yrs. Anyway, fail!!! We drove to Smith Falls 44 minutes down the road, and was in and out within 2 hrs max.
I went today this afternoon after 3pm. Not a good time to be there, every waiting chair was full and you have to wear masks once again . It's hot waiting with the stupid mask on, but it was just too busy. I waited over two hours and they still hadn't registered me. I gave up and went home. I went a few months ago very early in the morning was better only 2 in the waiting room. I have wax buildup in my ear needs to be flushed . The nurse I talked to said " your situation is a "bottom feeder medical problem" you may have until 2 or 3 AM to be seen. No thanks . No more family doctor (retired) like everyone else in Ontario can't get another one. Walk in clinics 90% are " not " accepting new patients" and the other ones that are all have terrible reviews !! Avoid them like the plague!! Yes The Provincial Health Care System post Covoid is a mess and getting worse by the day.
My mother has fallen a few times. Each she received immediate care. This time she had a very bad fall and we feared the worst. She had doctors from ever specialty visiting promptly and they unites in a plan of treatment. Everything was done quickly and showing the utmost concern. We would never know that there was a healthcare crisis by the care she was given. I believe that the issues arise in er because we need a second tier if er to get fast and proper care to the usually non life threatening but nevertheless urgent cases. I waited in er dozens of times for hours and hours in excruciating pain from a migraine that required a simple drip but nevertheless needed care that a doctor cannot provide. It is so frustrating. I never uncovered a healthcare worker who was anything less than caring to the best of their ability.
Contrary to the heart institute I found the nurses and doctors at the Civic Emergency incredible. I had first gone to the Queensway Carleton Hospital because I was short of breath and breathing forcefully, they had me waiting for over 3 hours while I was hyperventilating in their waiting room, I left and went to the CIVIC , within 30 minutes I was admitted and put in a bed , received a echo cardiogram and was later moved to the heart institute for heart failure. The Civic Emergency is fantastic and staff there are way above anything else I experienced.
Located at 1053 Carling Ave. the Ottawa Civic Campus Emergency Hospital is a life saving place. Staff, doctors and nurses are top notched. The Civic's Emergency triage system is well structured and organised to manage critical priority patients first then those who are stable get treated later. People need to accept this and if they have to wait for over 12 hours to see a doctor then maybe they should think twice before complaining. I appreciate the help I have received from the Civic Emergency department, thank you.
The night shift was standing around chatting about non-work related topics, taking their time with no sense of urgency in their care. Forgot my sister in a room after she had waited 8.5 hours in crippling pain. The morning staff found her, had no idea who she was or why she was there, and they brought someone in immediately (they were great after 8am). Could be a one-off experience, but very discouraging that health care professionals ignored and ultimately forgot about a patient.
Don’t ever go here unless you want to catch more nasty infections. Also the doctors have no clue what they are talking about they will just tell you nothing is wrong and give you medications to make you temporarily fine. If you want to come here make sure you show up after 8am because the the residents are the only ones that care about your problems and want to figure out what’s wrong with you unlike the doctors that will look at you like you have 4 eyes.
Extremely understaffed. They have incompetent students here seeing patients. Even when I come here knowing exactly what needs to be done (it's a recurring issue and I've had to have it dealt with several times), they say nothing needs to be done. So I just get to continue to suffer untill it's visible enough for them to see with their naked eyes. They individually care about you, but they always do the bare minimum.
I had bleeding in my ear, I am not able to hear anything. I went to emergency, after waiting for 10 hours. Doctor said that I cannot do anything because I cannot see anything because there is wax. Seriously? Who is doctor here? I am bleeding!! Then he said only ENT can see this. You should go through your doctor referral. If you go from us it will take months. They should change name from emergency to suggestion.
Would give 0 star if I could. My partner got a broken nose with blood all over, and we waited from 11pm to 8 am in this freaking ER just to see a doctor, when they finally called him in, he was placed in a room and waited for another 2 hours until a doctor shows up. 11 freaking hours!?!? Why not just close place when you don’t have the resources. Worst ER experience I’ve ever had.
If I could give 0 star because so slow my niece was transferring from cp hospital and by ambulance to go get CT scan and we been wait hour over 4 hours for the doctor to come in and all the nurse said wait on results bullcrap because there are all on the computer on doing Facebook date sites and not right what happened to patients first I think the medical care need retraining
I was expecting the long wait but I know that's just how it is in Canada because of "free" healthcare. But this review is about how they lost my blood sample so I had to stay there even longer. I thought I was finally meeting the doctor after half a day but then they told me they had to take another sample since they don't know where mine went.
Don't go here if you value your life, the healthcare may be free but they charge an obscene amount for parking. If you have the choice to set up an appointment with a walk in clinic or the emergency room, go with the clinic because they'll probably see you sooner. The staff are nice enough but nice doesn't treat wounds and cure fevers.
Doctors and surgeons are awesome here. Very thorough. At least for broken bones. When we got here it wasn't busy so from start to finish we were here 6 hours which we were expecting longer. My biggest concern was the waiting rooms and bathrooms, not child friendly. I'd expect at a hospital the baby change table not to be broken.
My boyfriend went for extreme pain, and one doctor said it was meningitis and was about to treat it, but the other said it was COVID after 4 negative rapid tests, and sent him home on painkillers. The doctors that said it was meningitis was really nice, which was the only reason for more than one star
Great service ! Thank you to all the nurses who took care of me today especially the black nurse (sorry I forgot his name)and the lady who was with him, the front desk nurses. Thank you to the doctor also ! You guys were doing a great job. I really appreciate that and God bless all of you ❤️ …
Absolutely ridiculous me and my wife waited 8pm to 2am she has wisdom tooth pain after all the registration and all still no doctor, I know they are busy but why the people go to emergency to get treated asap that’s what the emergency is for but no , no body cares , absolutely garbage
I was there a few weeks ago in the emergency department and I had Dr. Ho as my doctor and he was absolutely fantastic! He was so great and so patient with me and all the other patients that were in my area. The nurses and rest of the staff are also fantastic. Well run hospital!
Dr. lawrence israel norman treated me by helping Mr to find a dermatologist within days. It's amazing how he cares about his patient. He takes his time to figure out why this problem and find a resolution to fix it. This is why it takes a long time in the ER, but it's worth it.
Long waiting time, unfriendly and frustrated staff. Waited more than 7 hours to see a doctor. This is considered normal waiting time. People just lay in wheelchairs in pain. I hope this in not an indicator of health care system in Canada. Totally disappointed
We are currently in the waiting area since 7:30am for mom’s leg pain. The triage nurse announced at noon that the waiting time is 17 hours. Don’t know why the waiting time at Civic is longer than other hospitals? Most of the triage nurses are unfriendly.
Would not go back there they can keep there bed bugs for them self as the security guard seem to be enjoying himself stepping on them to kill them as they run about the floor last week dec 13 2009 grossing me out and they recall that place a hospital
They are fine during the day. However if you have problems in the evening, please consider some other ER. waited more than 8 hours before i could see a doctor. Fellow patients some in pain were treated with nothing but wait.
They were amazing today. I’ve spent 5:30 hours there but the triage system they have is so well organized. The doctors really listened to me. This is my go-to hospital in case of need from now on, I really recommend it.
Although the ER is more packed here they are much more efficient and do their due diligence then the other hospital on Smyth road. Can't thank you enough for your help ...keep up the good work!!
Wonderful people working here they really care about the patience. There is a wait time and you should understand that prior to going in, there is a wait time at every emergency.
These people are just amazing. They also considered the fact that I am a transgender and I need privacy. I have done my surgery just now and my body feels much better.
My 94 year old mother fell and required stitches. Excellent physician repaired her wound. Constantly informing her what she was doing. All told 2-1/2 hours.
فترة الانتظار في الاسعاف طويلة جدا اكتر من ٣ ساعات حتى تبدء اجراءات العلاج..مشكله هذا المستشفى فترات الانتظار الطويله في كل الاقسام …
The staffs are very nice and caring! But the wait time is still pretty long, please hire more great Doctors and staffs!
I went a few times and honestly it's one of the best hospitals in the area, very professional and excellent service.
The map was helpful in finding my relative who is a patient. Apparently the food isn't great at this hospital.
Waited 11 hours for “urgent” ultrasound, sitting in a pool of my own blood. Horrifying experience.
Don't go to the ER here, it will take more than 10 hours even if you are in pain.
Long wait in ER, but i was not in pain. Staff, doctors, treatment is stellar.
Thanks for putting my dislocated shoulder back where it belongs!
AWESOME DOCTORS AND NURSES! Life savers!
