I recently had the pleasure of purchasing a unique book titled "Of Cabbages and Kimchi" for my father's birthday from this charming independent bookstore. To say that my experience was exceptional would be an understatement. First and foremost, let's talk about the book itself. "Of Cabbages and Kimchi" is a gem that I couldn't find in any of the mainstream bookstore chains, and it was sold out on Amazon until mid-spring of next year. My desperation turned to joy when I discovered that Omnivore had a copy in stock. What truly sets Omnivore apart is the extraordinary level of service provided by the owner, Celia. In the midst of the busiest season of the year, she went above and beyond by closing the shop during regular business hours just to personally hand deliver my purchase to the post office. This ensured that my father's birthday gift would arrive on time, making the occasion truly special. Celia's dedication to customer satisfaction and her commitment to supporting her patrons is something rarely seen in today's fast-paced retail environment. Her personal touch and genuine concern for the customer experience have left an indelible mark on me. In an era dominated by large corporations, supporting independent businesses like Omnivore is more important than ever. The personalized service, the unique book selection, and the genuine passion for literature exhibited by the owner make Omnivore a true gem in the heart of San Francisco. If you're looking for a bookstore that goes the extra mile for its customers, where the owner takes the time to understand your needs, and where you can find those rare gems that elude the mainstream, then Omnivore is the place to be. I wholeheartedly give Omnivore Bookstore a glowing 5-star rating and encourage everyone to support this local treasure. Your bookish heart will thank you, and you'll leave with not just a book but a memorable experience. Cheers to Celia and the joy Omnivore brings to book lovers everywhere!

Such a quality bookstore. Just went here yesterday to buy four books in preparation for a new job and I felt like it really put my mind at ease. They've got every kind of cookbook you could be searching for! Staff was friendly and not pretentious or rude when I said I might need to get rid of some books from the ones I chose because of my budget. I recommend this place to anyone from beginning cook, bartender, or expert chef.

An excellent niche bookstore just for cookbooks. Not just current print stuff but older books from across the decades. The staff was very knowledgeable and helpful in finding what I need. The only reason I'm giving them 4 stars instead of 5 is that the books appear to only be loosely grouped together without labeling on the shelves. Besides that, if you are looking for a specific cookbook odds are they have it

I could’ve spent all day in here. Though it’s quite a small store, there are TONS of cookbooks. New releases, used books, antique books. The owner (didn’t catch her name) was extremely welcoming and very nice. I really appreciated that. We’re both big fans of Julia Turshen! I picked up ‘Made in India’ by Meera Sodha. This place is heaven for home cooks! Can’t wait to come back and pick up another book. ❤️

A small, independent bookstore that specializes in culinary-themed books, mostly cookbooks. I wouldn't go out of my way to visit this place, mainly because of its size, but I like to stop by if I'm in the neighborhood. The building used to be a butcher shop, and they still have some of the old equipment as well as the old freezer room, which they use for storage. Be sure to check it out if you're there.

This bookshop is a real San Francisco treasure. It is super cozy yet stocked with the most formidable collection of books on food, wine, spirits etc. Browsing it is a pleasure, and you are sure to make multiple serendipitous discoveries. The owner, Celia, is super knowledgeable and welcoming. Their events are fantastic - always interesting and fun. Make sure to get on their email list!

Sad that the “signed” stanley tucci book I ordered isn’t really signed. It has a sticker label with an autograph on the front page. There is nothing about it on the description. Besides saying it’s signed. A signed book has the signature directly on the page. I guess it was too good to be true that I found a signed copy for regular price. At least the book came in good shape.

An exceptional niche bookstore if you have any interest in cooking, food or restaurants. I could spend hours going through their selection of books about food, old menus and so much more. Exceptionally curated and the folks who work there are incredibly knowledgeable. Can’t wait to visit again someday!

Eclectic collection of books on food. We didn't have a lot of time to spend before closing, but it definitely seemed worth another visit. My ten year old found a book on history of doughnuts that really interested her and a teen cookbook that we are hoping will inspire her.
