My friend was craving buffalo wings after our long walk around Union Square and this place came up on the map. We decided to try it out. The wings did not disappoint. We ordered the large wings portion along with a baked potato to share and some light beers. It came with 16 wings, which was enough for a whole meal for the both of us. The wings had just the right amount of sauce and zing. They came with a blue cheese dressing and some celery sticks, which I liked to dip my wings in to take away the spice from time to time. We went for the light bottled beer choices they had, of which there were only 2. We weren't too thrilled about them, they tasted weak and watered down. The waitress was very friendly. Some notes to take, the female restroom is located on the second floor which also happens to be a private room for party reservations and there is a $20 minimum per card. They also have kids friendly items on the menu. Our bill came to about $38 before gratuities for a large portion of wings, a baked potato, and 2 beers. Overall, a good pit stop for a quick snack break.

A random stop in before seeing Titanique nearby. Neat history, old New York vibe that feels real because it is. They were slammed, but the service was friendly and still fairly decent, considering again, they were slammed. We split a plain burger and cup of house chili. Verdict on chili - REALLY delicious. Was honestly shocked. From NEW YORK CITY?? Yep, and was even decently spicy! On to the burger - delicious flavor, clearly high-quality meat. But! We ordered medium, and at best, it came medium rare... but honestly, it was closer to rare. They were again slammed, and we were correct in thinking they wouldn't be back super quick to check on us... so we just ate it. My daughter moved aside one half of her bun because it was soaked through with "red juice," and she couldn't handle it. Again, we did both eat our meat, but it was much, much redder than we prefer. Because it was so clearly good meat, it was disappointing it wasn't cooked the way we preferred. Still, overall, I think this is a good place!

Went here for the first time and the ambiance is unbeatable. The bartender, Brian, was so lovely and almost intuitive with whatever you wanted. I tried a new whiskey and it was perfect. Patrons are friendly and open and the conversation is lively. It makes one feel like they are most definitely at the fabulous, local bar. It somehow makes one appreciate even more the preservation of the bar (in style and heart). Women's bathroom is near the front door and upstairs. There are tables outside, so you can smoke there, if you like to smoke. There are many spots at the bar and tables. It appears that one can also have private events, as upstairs is another space that's pretty big. I think it would be a great place for an event! It was my first time, but I definitely plan to return. I am happy my friend introduced me to this iconic and welcoming bar. It is like a hug from New York (present and past). ⚜️

I took 10 co-workers to this bar last week for a celebration. Our server was incredibly rude directly upon seating us, and continued to act as if we were inconveniencing and annoying her any time we ordered another pitcher of beer. She wrote her own 20% tip onto the check, and when I followed up with the management a day later to ask if they had a mandatory tipping policy for groups (which isn't stated on their website or on the bill), I got no response. I used to be a bartender in New York, and I know how annoying it can be to deal with drunk customers that don't tip, but we were a group of professionals out for a drink at 5pm on a Wednesday, and we were all very polite. As a general rule, I prefer to patronize businesses that don't hate their customers, so I will not be taking my co-workers there again.

I like this bar best out of all the ones that claim to be one of the oldest in nyc. This one opened in 1892. It has the original vaulted tin ceilings, the massive urinals that date back to 1910, 55 ft long mahogany bar, an antique cash register that looks like it's from late 19th century. They even have these buttons at every counter for calling service back in the old days. Although those are not working anymore it adds to the whole back in time vibe. But ontop of all this history, it doesn't feel like a side show... The original touches just adds to the bar and what they do best ifls serve booze. It was just an enjoyable experience with old friends. If you're in the union sq area.. Stop by for a cold one... No fancy tablets for taking orders or generating bills here. Just the original bar with excellent booze.

Stopped into Old Town Bar for lunch on Thursday November 19th, in this never-ending Year of the Plague, 2020. I hadn't been to Old Town since January of this year, and hadn't been in the city itself since March. We wanted somewhere we could eat in, because it was cold. Besides even during the best of times, NYC probably has the nastiest sidewalk cafe experience in the western world. But Old Town delivered the goods. 1- Staff are masked - that they're polite and professional goes without saying 2- Booths and seating are spaced out appropriately 3- Beer is cold and good 4- Food is hot and excellent Overall it was a great experience, a way to feel "normal" again for a little while. Old Town Bar is a great lunch location during regular times, and at times like this it's highly recommended.

I have wanted to try out this one as it has been featured on multiple media articles here and there. The tradition-worn vibe of the bar certainly deserves appreciation. I mean, the beers there taste better in debt to the atmosphere the place offers. However, the service doesn't seem to keep up with its reputation. My friend--who is also serving at a restaurant himself--asked if he could check out a bottle of beer before his order and the waitress responded saying "Are you serious?" with an insulting tone and face to him. Since I can think of places with tradition and with great service simultaneously (McSorley's or Katz's came to my mind), our experience at this place is rather discouraging.

Comfortable, cool atmosphere. Bathroom could use to be cleaned. At opening time, it shouldn't be so icky. The service was ok. Server took our order but never came to check how things were. My husband's turkey Ruben was excellent. Best ever, truly. The potato salad was really good. The corn soup was lukewarm, watery and flavorless. I wouldn't recommend that at all. The bartender is great. We didn't even sit at the bar and still we laughed at his stories.

If you like old bars and colossal urinals, this may be your place. A good beer list and food, keep going. We ordered a bowl of chili and chicken fingers. I guess the chili was warmer than room temp on not terrible. It’s pretty clear what’s in store when the chicken fingers show up. They’re frozen and if that is not the microwave method of cooking, it’s just a tough old bird. I think it was blue cheese dressing on the side, with notes of liquified chalk. Potato wedges were passable, but not gonna say good. Like the chili, maybe room temp, kind of crumbly and dry. Anyway, hot that urinal. Love those things.

A perfect pub experience. Once you walk through the doors, I realized I found something rare - an authentic NYC pub, unblemished and perfect. I had the Bison Burger, no cheese and all the other toppings with onion rings and a Guinness Stout. Maybe not the most adventurous, but it was the best burger I have had in New York, and the best onion rings I ever had ( I ordered an extra side!). Friendly, polite in the manner that exemplifies New York. A must visit - it is a hidden treasure!

This place is everything it should be, a little shabby and kind of dark, almost always crowded and bustling and 100% charming! My wife and I finally came here for the first time during a recent visit to nyc and after, we came back several more times. The servers are fun and attentive (sometimes slightly surly to each other but that's ok!), the atmosphere is comfy and the food is great. We especially love the tuna melt, the buffalo wings and the giant pretzel. The drinks are strong and the pours are generous too. Go!

  • Travel With Trey (Travel with Trey)

This is a great historic bar and vies for the title of one of the oldest bars in Manhattan. Not only is this place historically in tact with its original high ceilings, long bar, and the oldest dumbwaiter in the city, it was the site of the 1992 music video Jump Around by House of Pain and was in the 90s intro to the David Letterman Show. Those are the facts, as for the atmosphere, the patrons were friendly, but the bartender was smug and curt with zero personality, just the kind of person to chase business away.

  • harrydbanana

Drinks were awesome, arrived at the perfect time where they weren't too busy. Got to talk and have a great conversation with the bartender while drinking some of the nicest whiskies on the shelf. Ended up getting a bunch of locals food reccomendations for after drinking, which I went and tried them all. Shoutout to the bartender from Utica!

I was in town on vacation with a friend, exploring various parts of Manhattan. For dinners, we were stopping at a pub close by to wherever we were around dinner time, and we chose this place one night. I honestly don't remember what I ate, but I do remember liking it, and the service being exceptional. We ended up getting our second round of beers on the house.

Went in on Friday evening when everything was booked everywhere, luckily found this place which had availability for table of 4 in the dining room on 2nd floor. They didn't have much options for cocktail that evening or for some reason some were not available not sure. Got kamikaze shots for $10 each, but they weren't colored as usual, it was just vodka and lime. Also ordered a giant pretzel and fries. Both were okay. Average place overall.

  • Chris Plucker

We came for the wings but stayed for the service, drinks, and atmosphere! - the wings were saucy, crisp, and perfectly cooked. Great buffalo flavor though I wouldn’t say spicy. Would recommend! - Debbie was helping us the most and was so friendly, attentive, and provided exceptional service - stayed relatively busy throughout the evening but not overly so Overall, great place to get wings and hang out!

  • Pat Norman

It’s tucked away (for NYC, that is), so on a recommendation from someone back home in Australia, we sought out Old Town Bar. The atmosphere is great - it’s a really cute venue. We got martinis just because (they were good!), and then I saw the plates of wings and thought why not give it a go? The buffalo wings here are fantastic. Really tasty and reasonably priced. Loved this bar!

  • Laurence Anslow

Terrific old school bar where you need binoculars to see down either end. You can either sit up there or in one of the beautiful booths depending on your company. Excellent, varied but solid draft selection, and superb chicken wings. Brian took care of us at the bar, he was delightful. Couldn’t be happier. When are you going?

1896, I actually heard that was open in 1893. Absolutely fantastic hidden place, high ceilings, dining room upstairs. Great drinks, friendly bartenders a place that you want to get together with friends over lunch, early evening or dinner. Winn Winn situation, great atmosphere, you got to see this place. Highly recommended.

I went with friends to grab a beer while we cold down from the heat—super calm and old bar. As soon I opened the door, I felt I returned on time. Even the cash register was old and impressive. The women's bathroom is on the second floor. We didn't eat, so I don't know how the food is.

Don’t go for the food, but everything else is grand. Nice historic bar, beautiful decor, and robust friendly atmosphere. It’s a place to grab a lively beer after work. Be prepared to stand as it gets packed quickly. There’s an upstairs, but it’s for restaurant dining only and, to be honest, you shouldn’t go to Old Town Bar for the food.

Another bar near Union Square with old school vibes. This is the kind of place that has your classic beer menu and bar food. The staff was generally friendly and the place had good seating indoors and outdoors on the sidewalk. If you’re in the mood for a traditional pub experience, this is the place for you.

Was illegally turned away on account of my psychiatric service dog. The bartender refused to accommodate me claiming that only seeing eye dogs and seizure dogs are covered by law, when no such restrictions exist in the Americans With Disabilities Act.

Found this spot randomly googling good bar food and I have to say I wasn’t let down. The vibes was nice and our server John was also cool. Thank you for joining in our happy birthday!! The only off thing was I wasn’t sure if we just sat ourselves or waited but it’s cool!! Would def come here again!

Fitz and Pat were bartenders that raised the bar at this bar. Current daytime weekday bartenders are terrible at this place. Avoid this bar on weekdays during the day. Only tourists might accept such poor service and bad drinks in dirty glasses from bad pourers in Manhattan.

Classic New York bar near Union Square with a relaxed atmosphere. A great place to grab a couple of drinks after work. Interior is gorgeous, old fashioned wood. Has a decent food menu to accompany your drinks with all the usual bar fare. Try to snag a booth if you can.
