WARNING. He tried to steal my ETA 2836-2 by replacing it by a 2824 clone from China hoping i don't notice. Left my watch for a crown installation. Took over three weeks, which is reasonable because it was during the Holidays. I come by for my watch, everything seems functional, crown is working as it should be. Home, i open up the case back to verify if everything is in place. The ETA markings/caliber on the Base Plate are completely gone. Sent him a mail asking if he has replaced any parts or the movement as a whole. He told me that he has replaced the Base Plate by a Sallita SW200... without my permission and without even telling me when i picked up the watch. Sallita, just like ETA, marks their Base Plates underneath the balance wheel, this one is unmarked like the Chinese clones that are worth nothing. Asked him why its not marked, and he tells me its marked elsewhere... ffs. No such thing as marked elsewhere, its always marked in the same place, and lying to your customers won't get you far. Told him i don't want any aftermarket trash in my movement, and came back for the supposed "Sallita sw200" swap to the original ETA plate. He told me to wait 10-15 minutes. Who swaps base plates on a fully build movement in under 15 minutes? This right there was his first scamming mistake. While he was installing the "supposed Sallita sw200 Base Plate", i asked him why did he replace a part of my watch without my permission, when the original was in a perfect working order. He tells me that ETA plates aren't as strong as people will let you believe. Are you ******* kidding me right now? Just writing this pisses me the **** off... and who, on which planet EVER criticized a base plate from ETA? No such thing, he has invented a BS reason hoping it sticks. Not only that, but when he supposedly replaced it without my permission, HE KEPT THE ORIGINAL PLATE FOR HIMSELF, so he could resell it to others. Since its from an ETA automatic movement, its worth at least $40 on its own. This is called harvesting movements. He then finishes the supposed plate swap in under 15 minutes, i told him to never replace any of my parts without permission and leave his place. At this point you could see him being extremely guilty. Inspected the movement and EVERYTHING but the rotor is different. He did not replace just the Base Plate (like i assumed since you cannot swap plates on a fully built movement in under 15 minutes, the time i took him to do the job when i came by), he has replaced the whole movement of my watch but kept the original rotor, dial and hands, so it looks as genuine as possible, hoping the customer doesn't notice and he makes ~$200 for a perfectly functional ETA2836-2 on the side. Like what kind of ********** is that? Not only was he lying to my face until i existed his place telling me bs like "i thought it'd be a good idea to replace the part by a stronger one", he didn't replace "the part", he swapped the whole movement. You only read and hear about these kind of scammers, but we have one in Montreal. I have only visited him to drop 4-5 watches, and in that small amount, he has already tried to steal the whole movement of my $800 Swiss divers watch. With all the elderly folks visiting his place, i can only imagine how he is taking advantage on someone like that, folks with poor vision or the ones that won't take the time to verify his "repairs". If you need a movement repair, especially if you have the higher end watches like Rolex, etc, i don't care where you go, but stay far from this place. If he has done this on my watch, he has without a doubt harvested parts and whole movements hundreds of times in his "30 years plus of experience" that he keeps on repeating to everyone. This is criminal. IF YOU'VE BEEN TO HIS PLACE, I WOULD URGE YOU TO OPEN THE BACK OF YOUR WATCH AND VERIFY IF EVERYTHING IS IN PLACE. IF YOU AREN'T SURE, TAKE A PICTURE AND SEND THEM TO THE MANUFACTURER OR ANOTHER PROFESSIONAL. THIS THIEF NEEDS TO GO TO JAIL. I have picture and mail proof of all of this.
Watches in worse shape than when I dropped them off, no communication & very slow. With any luck my experience was an anomaly but it was nearly a disaster. Really nice people run the shop, it's family run, and I wish them the best, but I am very disappointed. I dropped off 3 automatic watches with simple jobs as a trial for the rest of my collection, but after over two months of waiting patiently, very little was done and one of my watches is in worse shape than when I dropped it off. One watch was returned to me "only a second or so off" only to be running 55s fast a day - totally unacceptable. This is an anti-magnetic watch, so in the event it was magnetized, it had to happen before the watch was cased back up! Watch two was only an alignment of a GMT hand. So simple I almost did it myself. This is a 20-30 minute job for a professional. It took months and is still a bit off. Watch 3 was a vintage watch that I was most hopeful for. In all honesty, they might have been able to do this justice, but after months of the above two, I had lost my patience. They were kind, receptive & gracious when I asked for my watches back. There are so many positive reviews here that I can't help but wonder - but as the old adage goes; fool me once....
I bought a Rolex from a gentlemen who swears by and has bringing his extensive watch collection to OTA for years. It was recently serviced by OTA. It has been remarkably accurate. More accurate than any serviced Rolex I've had in the past. I showered with the watch and noticed a haze beneath the crystal. I called and spoke to Lucas, I believe, who was very friendly and accommodating suggesting I send him the watch (as I live in Ottawa) and he will water test and replace any gaskets under service warranty right away. Looking forward to a lasting relationship with this Horologist.
Amazing customer service. I called three times, super helpful. I came in asked to put a hoop (had it already) on a pendant. I gave it to the guy in 30 seconds he put it on and said free of charge. I said are you sure, he said its a new years present. He said he couldn't charge me on such a simple job. They are there for the customer and have been around for ages. I went once before and same thing, amazing customer service. I called Klinik (another jewlery store in NDG- said he would charge me 20.00 bucks) I will 100% come back and give all my business there. Cheers.
I had the great pleasure of being referred to OTA jewellers when my 1990 Rolex automatic watch stopped working . I can’t tell you what a great experience I had . Not only are the staff super nice , they cleaned and fixed my watch to perfection and at a fraction of the market price . When it comes to fine timepieces , you won’t be disappointed at OTA . I would like to add that I’ve been back several times with other timepieces and it has been pure pleasure dealing with Luca and his team . Their expertise and service is 5 stars ++
I have been using the services of OTA Jewellry since the early 2000's and I am still a happy and loyal customer. I can imagine that the craft of Jewellry design and watch repair is a skill best done meticulously and with great patience. And so I truly appreciate the time Lucas takes with me (and all of his customers) to explain what needs to be done to get the job done right. You will never feel rushed and will always be treated kindly and with respect at OTA Jewellry.
If you have to buy or fix jewelry of any k8nd, THIS is the place......THE most honnest guy there is!!!! We went to see him with rings, he melted them and created a brand new ring with it at very low cost...... My wife had a ring that keot breaking, she had it fix multiple time until she went to Mr Lukas Ota, he fixed it and said "you won't have to come back for this" 5 years and she did'nt go back......
Ota provides exceptional service! I have had the pleasure of having jewellery fixed and purchased here for over 30 years. I have had jewellery fixed, watches repaired, batteries replaced and purchased original jewellery that most often is handcrafted on site. Most recently, they restored my wedding/ engagement ring to a beautiful state. It was truly beyond my expectations. This is a “gem” of a place!
An actual family business and the Sun is taken over and still works with his mother in the store who knows the business too. They have some amazing time peeping pieces and he has some new stuff and estate jewelry and he does repairs and he's absolutely delightful and a very kind and decent human being. I drive the extra mile to go there. Even just to adjust my watch band.
Tried to give this guy another chance after a pretty awful first experience (out of convenience, but also because mistakes happen - forgive and forget). Simple dial swap on a Seiko SKX. Watch doesn't wind anymore. This was not an issue prior to the dial swap and I know this because it was an almost daily wear. Avoid if you value your watches.
OTA is a gem! They provide what has become a rather rare experience: a warm and personable service, true expertise, fair dealing and a genuine concern for their clients' interests. Lukas created a unique design for my engagement ring and it is absolutely stunning. I am so grateful to have discovered OTA and look forward to many more visits.
I was referred to OTA by a friend with a exclusive watch collection. Let me tell u how happy I am to have found this gentleman the owner LUCAS. He fixed my vintage OMEGA SEAMASTER and my two tone ROLEX SUBMARINER. PRICE AND service are more then fair compared to any1. But the service and knowledge of this gentlemen is worth GOLD.
I used their services numerous times for minor repairs and battery changes to my watch. Always a pleasure to go in there, as the service is always prompt, polite and fairly priced. I like that you seem to get the same high quality service whether you are a high-priced client or just in for a minor repair. Thumbs up!
OTA is an awesome and close by jewelry store. I have been there on many occasions to get watch batteries replaced and bands replaced. They are good, friendly, and helpful people. The service is quick and courteous and the prices are fair. I strongly recommend OTA and encourage supporting our local shops.
It's one of the best places in Canada to repair anything that has to do with watches, gold rings and necklaces. Moreover they are done with affordable budget and reasonable period of time to receive your items. So for Christmas and new year, you have to visit to judge for yourselves.
He will tell you that it will take a week and if you follow up after a week to see where your request stands he will refuse his services because he doesn’t like people following up on their requests within the timeframes he provided from the get go. A little childish in my opinion
Went to have my watch hands replaced. Left with a permanent scuff on the dial of my watch, which he didn't even have the decency of admitting was his doing. Do good watchmakers make mistakes? Probably. Do good people admit to them, and offer to make up for them? Definitely.
Lukas has helped me with some serious fixes on different kind of watches, his prices are fair and he is quite knowledgeable and offers you options on what can be done.. his expertise as a jeweller is a plus specially when wanting fine finishing on the time pieces..
A small store front but big, friendly, and qualified individuals ready to help I side. Besides having an amazing staff and watchmaker, you can find d clocks galore and so.e jewelry for sale. Prices are great. There are lots of items that make great gifts.
Not impressed.he may be good for jewellery but not for watch repair.4 visits and the watch had to go to another watchmaker to find out nothing was ever done to repair.thr crystal that was replaced was still cracked on installation.wpuld not recommend .
If anyone saw the movie HUGO. A watchmaker is a rare and precise trade, a watch or a clock has so many little pieces. OTA has helped me fix a lot of time and has been my store for jewellery over twenty years. Mom and son, unpretentious and efficient.
Very nice service! Went in for a watch battery replacement and it was quick and easy. Lucas was easy to talk to and answered all the questions I had. He even cleaned out the black gunk on the outside of my watch for free!
Amazing watch repair service! They are pros and hands down the best! Took care of my two watches I brought in with care and excellent work. I highly recommend Lukas at OTA. Very competitive prices and quality work.
Have had many of my watches serviced and/or repaired here, and have a couple more there still. Awesome service, super friendly and knowledgeable. I've referred many others there and all have been very happy.
I brought in a pair of earrings in need of minor repairs. The gentleman who served me was quite knowledge and was able to fix them on the spot free of charge! I'll definitely be back next time.
Great place for all your needs relating to watches. From simple battery changes to watch servicing, Lucas really gives an excellent service at a great price. Highly recommend it.
A family-owned business that repaired my old Atlantic watch in a very thorough and professional way. The prices are very reasonable and the quality of the work is excellent.
Very trustworthy and reliable repair shop. It is the second time that I have used their services, and I am continuously happy with the honest service that Lucas provides.
Friendly and knowledgeable people. Feels as though you are walking into their living room for a cup of tea. Generous with their time. A pleasant encounter. Thank you.
As usual, Lucas delivered. Watch or jewellery, he's our guy. He services automatic watches, and can rebuild and repair jewellery. And he designs pieces too.
Great place to have your jewelry or watches repaired at a very reasonable price. Family owned for more than 40 years. that should tell you everything.
Very very honest with amazing quality jewelry. Very impressed! I had a dog tag custom made in 14K gold with engravings. Absolutely love !!
Great place! I hear they have a guy who just works on clocks in the back, but I never see him! Great staff and service.
Mr Lucas put a new band on my watch. The service was exceptional and we were welcomed with a smile. Thank you.
Was looking for a great watchmaker , lucky me I just found one . Very nice experience, I’ll be back .
