The Newman Center at UDub is an amazing place. The Dominican friars were asked by the bishop to come to Seattle after the university was founded,to minister to students and staff. They've been here ever since,on campus and at Blessed Sacrament Parish, in the U District. They do remarkable work, bringing the Catholic faith to students. Seattle is one of the least religious cities in America, and college students are at an age where they are generally less likely to be interested in religion. Despite having the odds against them, the Dominican friars at the Newman center have created a large, faithful, and exciting community of Catholics-- students, faculty, and even neighborhood families. The Newman Center not only provides a home for Catholic students at UDub, non-Catholic students, attracted to what the faith is clearly offering their Catholic peers, come in remarkable numbers, ensuring the Newman Center's RCIA classes are well filled. The mixture of good theology, excellent preaching (a hallmark of the Dominicans), exciting programs and trips, and a genuinely welcoming attitude towards everyone who enters its doors, all combine to make the Newman Center a very positive presence at the University of Washington and in the city of Seattle.

Great place for Catholic UW students to get to know other Catholic students and develop faith and fellowship together in a ministry close by to their school. Lots of cool events that you can really pick and choose to do. Really nice parish staff, the campus minister and receptionist especially, and Dominican priests who REALLY know how to preach to university students. Also has a few FOCUS (Fellowship of Catholic University Students) Missionaries who are always here to help students and give them guidance. Love this place!

With the addition that was built on to this already beautiful chapel, it is a great location to really reflect on your faith and get you out of the rat race. We noticed with the new addition there are many places for the young people to have some workspace and gathering locations that are comfortable and provide fruitful interaction. It's really lovely to go and see so many young people participating in adoration and the mass. What a testament to the faith directors there.

Great place to find community in college. You can be as involved or not involved as you choose to be as you tailor your own experience. Our Dominican priests are amazing and it's the first time I feel like I've been friends with priests - very casual, funny, and easy to talk to. Best decision of my life thus far was getting involved with Newman.

Grateful to have this catholic resource and flexible mass times. Enjoy going to mass with my daughter who is at the UW. I work weekends and this allows me to be able to attend mass here when I can't make it to my home parish, will probably attend mass here when I can even after she graduates.

Amazing Catholic community where college students can take their faith into their own hands. There are plenty of opportunities of fellowship, prayer, and faith formation. The community is very tight knit, and it is amazingly easy to fit right in and make friends!

I really love attending church here. Everyone from undergrads, grads, young professionals, to families attend church there. The community is great and the staff always has fun events planned to help you meet new people and enjoy the company of fellow Catholics.

A wonderful place to encounter Christ. The Sacrament of Reconciliation is available on Sunday afternoons (4 pm and 6:15 pm) before mass! They also offer the latest mass in all the Seattle area: 9 pm!

Newman was a great community when I began college at UW, and has continued to be since I graduated. Beautiful space since the remodel, and lots of events to attend!

A wonderful place of worship. Staffed by good (habited) Dominicans, faithful to the magisterium. Music can get a little hokey but I chalk that up to those Ewoks.

  • Ancilla Sequeira

It's an amazing place of worship. Priests are very kind love their mass and all the activities they host specially for university students.

Great community especially amongst the students. The priests are very open to all questions and happy to help parishioners

Convenient mass times for students make it the overflow mass destination for folks from other neighboring parishes.
