Naught is an award-winning premium gin brand, cocktail bar and distillery located in Melbourne’s leafy North Eastern suburb of Eltham. I would be surprised if your first words upon entering weren’t “wow”, it is stunning and not what you would expect in the industrial street. Inspired by an 1920’s prohibition era speakeasy, the venue features deep leather booths, long communal tables, a heated outdoor deck laced with fairy lights, commissioned artworks and dried botanicals hanging from the ceiling. You can’t miss the main attraction - “Abigail” their copper distiller. I recommend beginning with a tasting flight of 3 of their best selling gins ($12), you will find they all linger nicely on the palate after drinking. I personally loved their Sangiovese Gin which was sadly limited to 1000 bottles and sold out for 2021. From there, make your way through their adventurous 5-page cocktail menu, specially curated by their expert bartenders. You will find all the classics, twists as well as signatures all $22 each. We tried as many as we could, including: French 75 Humuhumunukunukuapua’a (IYKYK) Gina Colada Southside Gin-Rita The Aviation Our favourites were: The Saturn, similar to a passionfruit martini and served with a flavour blaster smoke bubble. ☕️ Espresso Martini, not usually my favourite but their version is just genius. They source their coffee for the cold brew from @craftworkroasting across the road and use Macadamia & Tosted Wattleseed liqueur instead of Kahlua. Smoke and Mirrors, their version of a Gin Old Fashioned (again not a usual favourite) is a masterpiece, leaving a noticeable smokiness after each sip. The Charcuterie Boards and Meatballs made the perfect snack. Absolutely will be on the agenda whenever I’m in the area. They also take bookings for Cocktail Making Masterclasses at $70pp. Brilliant. ⭐️ 5/5 (Excellent)

I recently had the pleasure of visiting this extraordinary bar which left a lasting impression on me. From the moment I walked in, the carefully designed mood lighting and luxurious finishings created an ambiance that I was not expecting from a bar in Eltham. Every detail has been meticulously considered, creating an amazing atmosphere. Speaking of attention to detail - one charming detail was the bar's signature ice-cube, showcasing their logo beautifully molded within it. This added a touch of elegance and it's these small touches that set the bar apart. One important aspect that truly stood out was the exceptional level of training and professionalism exhibited by the staff. I've noticed a general decline in knowledge and professionalism from hospitality staff post-Covid (which I put down to lack of training).. but not here. The staff here possessed an in-depth knowledge of the drinks menu and were able to provide insightful recommendations based on their individual preferences. They worked hard but happily, keeping the area behind the bar so clean - couldn't believe how clean and well organised the place is! Despite the staff's expertise, they were approachable and warm, ensuring that each interaction felt personal and attentive. The staff's commitment to providing outstanding service definitely enhanced the overall experience. In addition to the stellar drinks, we had the pleasure of indulging in the charcuterie platter, which we enjoyed so much and couldn't fault. I must say though, it was challenging to find fault with any aspect of the entire experience! A must visit!

Went to the master gin class with friends ... WE HAD A BLAST!! Getting there, I thought it was the building out front ... but it was actually the one at back, just follow the driveway. As you enter, you are transported to a cosy and dimly lit bar. I like how the light from the bar was prominent -- we were like moths to a flame. The distillery machines were a great addition to the art around the bar. Our great host were: - Alex: who exuded class and experience; - Celia: who was effervescent and always had a smile; - Sam: who was the seemingly shy type but had so much character once conversation starts We started off with gin and tonic. I had it dry, others had it sweet. Either way, it was a great intro to the master class. We were then introduced to the 3 types of gin they make. I found the strongest one as the best, not merely because it had the higher (flammable) alcohol content but since it had more character and got better with each sip. In making of drinks, we had a lot of fun. Try the bubble machine!!! Kudos to Sam who was our mixologist guide extraordinaire. We ordered some dips which complimented the drinks we made. Shout out to their espresso Martini. The espresso concoction was from a local business as well. It hit my caffeine spot! Overall, it was a great experience. A definite recommend to every alcohol lover!

What a great place. This speakeasy bar in a commercial location is awesome. Walking down a long driveway I entered this bar and I felt like I'd gone back in time. This place is from another time, it's beautiful inside. The service was friendly and welcoming as I was shown to my seat at the bar. Starting w a gin flight, the tasting a cocktail. OMGosh everything was moorish. The gin flight carried me up and took me away haha. A cocktail was made in front of me and that was a show in itself. And the taste, well it was sweet, with a burst of flavour. Delicious. I shared a charcuterie board and this amaazing!! There was blue cheese, hard cheese soft cheese, picked gherkins, w pickled capers Fruit chutney, chilli's, picked onion, toasted olive bread, This was just perfect. And I tried some meatballs which melted in my mouth. Wow!! And the olive toast was a winner. Everything was soo good. There is live music most weekends starting from this weekend on the deck. I'd like to see that. I was so impressed I grabbed a bottle of limited edition Sangiovese Gin for a special night at home. Overall this was a truly memorable experience and I am definitely going back. [Invite]

This is a great place; however, I thought I should make a couple of comments. Firstly, the lighting is rubbish, you literally need your phone torch to read the menu and if you need glasses to read, you're stuffed. Also, the tasting flight doesn't come with labels of what you're tasting, notes (not that you could read them), or accompaniments. Now, the good points. The young bloke was very knowledgeable and loved his job and the olives are delicious. The ambiance is great, just a little dark and some of the gins are fantastic. Finally, the fact that you get your tasting flight for free when buying a bottle and you also get 10% off just by stopping in for a drink is a real winner. We'll definitely be back, this time via an Uber so we can stay longer.

Grouse little Bar nestled down a side street in Eltham, obviously specialising in Gin cocktails. Great range to choose from and the knowledgeable, friendly staff will happily guide you through their extensive list. Cheese platter is top notch (not that we came for the food) with only top quality contents. Finish the night with a Zombie - you'll love the theatrics that goes with it! (Though the ladies always enjoy the Saturn, "the bubble one"...

Great Cocktails and Gin (no surprises there), it was good to see the place pumping with many patrons enjoying a night out! The staff were super friendly and brilliant at making cocktails. We had a few delicious cocktails, and also bought a bottle of gin on the way out. I'd suggest eating out before or coming here before going out for food. The nibbles is a bit limited, considering there is the temptation of having heaps of cocktails and potentially getting sloshed. It is a nice big space with plenty of larger tables and booths, so is well suited to a big group. Alternatively, the bar seating is great if you want to watch the staff make cocktails and have a quiet conversation as a couple.

We went on a Local Producers Night. By 8 Naught was pumping. The bar staff are professional and knowledgeable about their business. The cocktails expertly made. Naught stocks a number of other local distilleries such as Kinglake Distillery, Imbue and Hill Martin…so if you love your cocktail you can take a bottle…or 6 of the main ingredient home with you.We travelled from Oakleigh to Eltham and left very happy campers.

Wow - what a hidden gem! If you like gin then this place is for you!! Not much parking outside on a Saturday night but it's a cool prohibition style cocktail bar, with gorgeous dried flower arrangements hanging, candles, artwork, velvet lounges all adding to a beautiful ambience. It seems to be in an industrial area so it's a little bit out of the way. We were greeted by a lovely bartender who gave us an extensive and helpful briefing of the menu. Most of the cocktails are approx $22-24. Highly recommend for a nice group or couples experience if you are in the area!

A Fabulous experience. Staff were so attentive,friendly & engaging from the minute we walked in until we left. We sat at the bar (but the booths looked cosy for more intimacy & there is a great upstairs mezzanine area also (ideal for a group?)). Gorgeous outside terrace at rear, beautifully lit (& heated). Decor is luxe & super swish. I can't help but mention the small glass box of complimentary tampons in the loo. Just illustrates how much thought & care has gone in to the place. Diverse gin cocktail menu. Let staff guide you! Proud to have such a venue in Eltham. First of many visits for sure!

First time at Naught Distilling, and what a hidden gem in Eltham. Walking thorough the door and into the main bar area you are smacked in the face with a very sophisticated fit out. The staff were very friendly and happy to talk about gin, also very happy to run through the menus and offer drink and cocktail suggestions. Nestled in an industrial part of Eltham and across the road from Prosciutto Bar, Naught Distilling is a fun place to enjoy an intimate evening or celebrate an occasion with friends. The setting feels somewhat like a mix between gangster and moulin rouge. I booked the mezzanine level which was more private and cosy. The drinks are reasonably priced and taste amazing. The staff are extremely friendly and will take the time to explain the various drinks on offer.

I stumbled across this hidden gem while googling one day. It did not disappoint! The setting is beautiful for couples to sit at the bar or to bring a group of friends. The cocktail selection was extensive, they all tasted amazing and some of the best I have had, the knowledge and enthusiasm of the workers were outstanding. They definitely knew about the products and provided recommendations. I still haven't stopped talking about this place

Super cool place which is a sign of the direction Eltham is going. Definitely has a feel of a northcote or fitzroy setup. Really fortunate to have this out in the burbs as it is definitely an industry leading establishment. The cocktails were great, staff were knowledgable and service was top notch. Will be back for sure. Agree that some more food items would be a great addition though as we did have to leave to go eat somewhere else.

Amazing cocktails, scrumptious charcuterie boards, and the most exciting speakeasy atmosphere anywhere in Melbourne. The staff are super-friendly, energetic, and welcoming, and make an effort to get to know you. We always have a great experience and come back as often as we can. Naught is an adventure that you must experience, and worth the trip to Eltham. Possibly even more enjoyable even on a quiet Thursday or Sunday evening.

What a fantastic experience we had at Naught Distillery! We completed the masterclass with Josh leading my group and could not have had a better time. The venue is classy with a sexy ambiance, we were welcomed warmly upon arrival and had a G&T in hand shortly thereafter. The cocktail making experience itself was unique and educational, and above all a lot of fun! We are already looking to find another excuse to come back.

Take a slice of inner Melbourne cbd and transport to the suburbs and you have naught. Very unassuming from the outside being on an industrial setting, but spectacular decor on the inside and very attentive staff make for a great experience. So nice to see eltham has an establishment like this. If you are a gin lover, don’t hesitate to book here you will leave very happy with both drink options and service.

Superb service, amazing cocktails and the best vibe. The staff are always so accommodating, even calling to improve our seating options before we arrived! We felt so cared for during our sitting and we loved seeing the bartenders smile at each other as they worked. Good vibes down the core. This bar is beautiful and the atmosphere is relaxed and decor sexy. Ideal place for a date. Drinks were amazing and the service was high standard. Would have liked a few more selections for a snack/ appetiser. Staff were happy which does a lot for the vibe of a place I believe. Will come again because I certainly need to try a few more of their cocktails!

Highly recommend. The wait staff were excellent and very welcoming. The whole venue has this 70s sexy jazz vibe and you can see the attention to detail that they dedicated to the venue right down to the quality of the glass wear, the lighting, the fabrics, even the bathrooms are perfectly done. An amazing experience doing the Masterclass !! Would recommend this to everyone.. G'n'T on arrival, a flight of 3 gins to try and then got to make 2 cocktails behind the bar. Never heard or seen another bar do this type of thing and all for a small price of $70. Excellent value !! Have already told so many people to try out the masterclass!

Live 1 suburb away and never heard of this place. Wow I've been missing out. Fabulous designed place, comfy chairs and low lighting giving this place a great vibe. Amazing place hidden away in Eltham, just what we need around this area. The drinks were very nice and food was the perfect accompaniment. Bonus points as all the staff were all extremely friendly, cheery and always smiling which was very pleasant, great work to all the team there and we will definitely be back.

What is there to say? The place is perfection. Swanky, stunning, high end venue without the $60 cab ride to the city or hour long train to the CBD. We are very lucky to have this space!

Absolutely loved my experience at Naught! The cheese board was delicious, the drinks were outstanding and the overall feel for the place was incredible. You can tell a lot of thought has gone into every little detail and it shows. Can’t wait to go back again and again!
