Located in an accessible location, it has two parking placesnearby, with its spaciousness and impressive exhibits the ,place has to be visited. Especially since there are two unique places to see nearby: Meštrović Gallery and Kaštelet. The exhibits tell the story of the development of culture, showing not only the richness of the heritage, but also how much it has contributed to our present day and how important it is to know it. The staff is available and very friendly. Being in Split and not visiting these places - you would miss a lot.

Went here as we were out walking and we weather wasn't great. Read somewhere that it was one of the five best museums in Split. I hope they were wrong. Even though the admission was free and the weather was cool this museum was very warm and empty, not just of people but of things to see. Huge building but only a few few items on display. We could see a row of displays on the 2nd floor but most of them were closed off. We left after 10 minutes, we had seen everything, played the piano and gotten bored and too hot to want to stay.

Beautiful space with some important artefacts from Croatia's turbulent past. The coin collection is quite impressive. And the reconstruction of the medieval warrior's head is fascinating. The building deserves a cafeteria and specialist shop.

It is one of the most beautiful place because of nature around it...but more imported it is one of oldest ih the Croatia. With lots of things to see...really recomended to go if you are in Split. Also lots of school go there with kids what is great to learn about history in reall life to see it not only read from books.

I’m a huge fan of museums wherever I travel, but this one had given up the ghost awhile back. Large empty exhibits, handwritten notes on the walls, a piano in the middle of the main hall and a strange American woman sprawled out relaxing. On top of this no air conditioning in the middle of summer.

Gledao sam onaj dokumentarac na Diskaveriju. Mislio sam da ću ovde naći grobnicu nekog hrvatskog kralja, ali su mi potvrdili da još uvek tragaju za grobnicom nekog od desetine kraljeva.

Stuck in the eighties and with little information in English, the cost (as of June 2023) was an adequate €2 tickets for students. Not a must see, but a nice stop for a quick visit.

Honestly not at all what i expected, on the outside it seems like a huge place an a great way to learn the history of split but i was sorely mistaken. *No A/C, made me rush trough the museum because of the heat. *The entire exibition was quite small. *Strange opening hours.

It is a great museum. I went there with my sons who are 12 and 15 and they really enjoyed it. The only challenge is for English speakers not every exhibit has an English translation. I still recommend it and the walk there from downtown split is also very enjoyable.

Unfortunately the museum is almost empty only a few big objects in te main hall(picture) and a very small exhibition. Very underwhelming and sad to see so little of Croatian history. Also there is no explanation what so every about the objects that are there.

I love museums. I was really looking forward to this based on reviews but honestly it was rubbish. A few nice artefacts in a massive empty space, a lot of closed off spaces, no aircon in the middle of summer. Only positive is it was free! Very disappointing.

Beautiful architecture by Croatian architect Kauzlarić. The exhibition is interesting; great place to visit if you want to see and learn more about the early history of Croatian people. The admission is free of charge.

  • Goran Gabela

Super. Very important place for Hrvatsku Povjest (Croatian History). All tourist must see this muzej. Tourist can see more or less Croatian History on one place. Museum for arheogical monuments.

It was closed when we arrived today just after 1pm. Can't believe that they have a four hour break (1-5pm) during the height of tourist season. So disappointing. Marenda!!!

  • Jari Sadinmäki

Stars for effort, sadly hardly anything left to see due to lack of funds for the locale. Sad indeed. Still worth a look though, hopefully it'll be revived.

  • Aachener Unbekannt

Definitely not pricey but a little bit empty. You get a little bit historical information about the region but will be done in one hour. Clean toilets.

  • Tom Gsztr

Information about opening hours on google maps is wrong. During summer season museum works in different hours.

Muzej koji po svemu sudeći zauzima građevni prostor. Nitko o njemu ne govori niti se mlade skupine ljudi potiče na njegov obilazak...

Most exhibits were loaned out for exhibitions, but it was interesting nonetheless.

Interesting collection of historic relics that define Croatian cultural identity.

  • Denis Jukic

Noć muzeja ugodna večer uz glazbu..nažalost manjak sadržaja na ogroman prostor.

  • Angus Matthew

We enjoyed our trip here. We watched the Rugby World Cup semi final here.

  • Dado Lelas

A great place to organize conferences and seminars.
