Very pretty, should be free to enter as it's a church. However costs 3 euro which seems reasonable but then it's 5 euro for another section and 7 for the next. I really hate this way of monetizing of a church. Make it clear at the beginning and make a combo ticket. In the end I declined to do the bits that cost extra money as I just think it's money grabbing and that's the worst part of italian culture I've come across, when there are hidden costs. I also remember that Jesus got really angry at similar money practices in his day. To be clear I don't mind paying 3 euro, probably even 10 might be ok to go in a cool place and see art, but when things aren't up front thus is less cool. And I also think churches should be free to enter as they are in most places. I wouldn't have minded if the bit I had done was free then I pay something to go up stairs for example, but paying both... the whole thing doesn't seem very Christian in my opinion. Rant over

St. Mark's Museum is an artistic treasure trove that transports visitors through time. Its awe-inspiring collection of religious artifacts, intricate mosaics, and historic relics offers a profound glimpse into the cultural heritage of the past. Navigating the hallowed halls feels like a journey into history itself. The museum's careful curation and detailed exhibits provide a deep understanding of the significance of each piece. While some displays could benefit from more informative descriptions, the overall experience is immersive and enlightening. The breathtaking beauty of the mosaics is truly a sight to behold, a testament to human craftsmanship. St. Mark's Museum is a must-see for anyone seeking to connect with the spiritual and artistic legacy of bygone eras.

A wonderful place. The interior work is astounding with amazing detailed mosaics of gold tiles. Unfortunately there were other tourists there who were complaining about covering up. There was also a section where some nuns were practising their faith. The problem was that tourists were invading the area. There were also people wearing baseball caps inside. The place is amazing but the behaviour of tourists here was not good. Definitely worth the visit and the audio guide is great for 5 euro. It has approximately 4 stops and 10 minutes of audio leaving you plenty of time to explore. One thing we learned is that the damage on the pillars is caused by the flooding. Also have a good look at the floor - the detail is amazing! Highly recommend!

This really is the highlight of Venice. The biggest tourist thing to see and visit while here. No trip to Venice would be complete without it. It's a beautiful open square with something to see in each direction. The basilica and tower are available stunning. I would have a 100 more photos of it wasn't windy and raining when we came. At least it drowed out the surge of tourists. The sheer amount of elaborate decoration of the basilica is astonishing. And you could study it for an hour and miss lots. There love to get in here is crazy long and we skipped it.

  • Libby Hopes

Really beautiful but so busy so be prepared to stand around a lot! It is completely free to enter but i believe you can pay to skip the queue however the queue may look long we felt it moved reasonably quickly! I recommend taking a trip to the museum/balcony which is up a set of stairs, we went up and it was so lovely to look over the square and to the canal! If you really don't enjoy the church itself go up to the balcony (i think it was just 5 euros) because its so lovely and peaceful also you can look over the church from above.

Beautiful church inside - the entire ceiling is covered with gold mosaic designs, and the light is wonderful. Downsides are the ridiculous lines and the fact that everything besides the main church space costs a few euro to see. We arrived a little before the church opened so our wait was minimal, but by the time we left (around 10am) the line looked like the picture below. Personally I feel that time in this area can be better spent on the other fantastic museums, shops, etc. nearby.

  • Rakesh

Calling this a museum is misleading. Its an exhibit, not a museum. There are probably 10-15 pieces of restored / preserved art pieces at max. But I do recommend paying the extra 7euros to enter this museum for two main reasons; 1. to view the original Horses of the Hippodrome of Constantinople. This quadriga has a fascinating history and is a must see imo. 2. gives you access to the terrace of the cathedral. you get some splendid views of the city from there.

  • Pong Lenis

An amazingly wonderful museum located inside one of the nicest cathedrals you’ll ever visit in your life. This is an incredible place with an incredible history and museum. It’s absolutely worth your time to visit St. Marks, you won’t regret it, I would definitely recommend checking it out and buying the pass to see everything.

Beautiful place at night and day. It gets super crowded very quickly so make sure you get there early to wait in line. Or you could wait until around 3 so you wont have to wait as long. Most of the church is free to view (no pictures allowed inside), but you have to pay for the museum and balcony upstairs overlooking the whole square (which is worth it to me). Beware, it gets toasty inside during the summer.

  • Camilla Boschetti

In 2 minuti siamo entrati!!!

  • Sophie Blackburn

The architecture and appearance of this building is incredible! We spent hours looking around and learning about the history of the building! Entrance is free however there are restricted areas where you have to pay to get in, the area that I would recommend paying for is the upstairs as you can really take in the scale of the building and get a great view of the square, especially when events are on.

  • Jie Bo Ti

The museum costs an additional €7 which you pay for after entering the Basilica. I think it's pretty worthwhile. You get to access the terrace, overlooking Piazza San Marco. There are enough interesting things to see to justify the entrance fee. Also there's no queue and not crowded at all.

Overpriced museum mainly with religious artefacts. Worth of visiting only due to horses stolen from Constantinople years before. Apart from that nothing special. From the balcony it possible to take a picture of basilica.

Very ornate and beautiful cathedral that is free to enter. Though I would suggest going online and getting a skip the line ticket if you are going at a busy time (three euros). The ceilings have beautiful decorations with lots of gold paintings. But my favorite part was the floors and the elaborate designs in them.

  • Giacomo Minuto

  • Chandra Kanth Reddy

The church and museum are nice, but they're not as impressive as the Doge Palace right next to them. If you want to see both, start by visiting the church first and then go to the Doge Palace.

A beautiful church, wonderfully preserved! Photography inside the church is not allowed. The gold mosaic on the ceiling is stunning, I would recommend arriving at the church a little before 11am. Because at 11am they turn on all the ceiling lights and it's amazing watching the golden ceiling glow.

  • Paul Unwin

Amazing place to visit, most beautiful church I have ever been to. Free to enter but charges to see the Pala D'Oro massive gold screen, and to the St Mark's museum which is a definite must, especially to see the 4 horses and to visit the balcony to get amazing view of the square below. Incredible!

  • Matt Carvell

Great meusem make sure you the Rick Steve's any guide. You have to pay for some of the portions of the church for the treasure it's 2 and another portion to see the wall is 2 and if you want to go to the top to see more which you should it's 5. Expect like lines for all 3 of the activities.

  • Ugnė Jasinaviciute

Beautiful place. I would say its a myst visit for all visitors, even though most of venice is very beautiful. Byt st marks Basilica is an exquisite historical site. Although the square sometimes stinks a bit but its not that bad. Highly recommended. Btw this is my dog uwu

  • Michelle

They didn’t light the basilica so you can’t even see the gold in the ceiling. Due to the poor lighting everything inside was a dull brown color. Definitely buy the skip the line pass online for $3 and go straight to the special entrance. I didn’t have to wait at all.

  • Laura L

It's curious to imagine who and how it was constructed but the style is not in my taste. Only one section is free, the other 2 sides should be paid separately. 3 euros to see a golden smth, and go to the top and see the horses it costs 5 euros per person.

  • Rosa Flores Gavidia

You can access this museum after you visit the temple, remember to bring a kimono or a big pashmina, Italian’s are very serious about the dress code inside the temple’s, no shorts or open shirt, the land that you go you must show respect to their custom.

  • Wumi Olukoya

The basilica itself is closed. It’s a nice museum and ok for 5 but could definitely have been combined with one of the other museums. One thing I’d say is that the balcony view is definitely amazing - gives you an aerial view of St Marks square. …

  • Allysson Silva

Beautiful touristic place. Must stop while in venice. Amazing art. While you do not need to pay to enter, there are at least 3 stops where you should pay top visit special places. 10 euros for all of them. Worth visiting the museum on the top floor

The museum itself is pretty good but what's really great is being able to go up and get views of St. Mark's Square. A definite must if you are in the Basilica already. Look for the stairs to go up and is definitely worth the extra fee.
