My educational journey at Murdoch University Dubai was far from satisfying. I want to share specific things that made a difference to me: Most times, classes felt very boring. Teachers typically read from short PPT slides, which didn't make lessons very exciting. Teachers were mostly non-native English speakers with no connection to Australia. The same small group of teachers taught numerous subjects. Many students didn't do the work before class and could not contribute. Most students talked loudly during lessons and came to campus to play games, socialize, and eat food. The trimester system wears many students out and causes burnout. Unit materials are very outdated (from 2013-2015) and repetitive, and teachers don't provide much support with assignments. Unit content is too Australia-focused and lacks a broader perspective. Unit Coordinators can be condescending. Grading was very inconsistent because of inexperienced adjunct lecturers, or faculty not following Unit Materials. Assignments are getting simplified every year with coursework becoming 3-5 minute presentations instead of long essays, written exams are being eliminated. Overall, the university and the students are not very academically advanced. Communication with the university was mostly poor. When we had problems, they didn't always help and dismissed student concerns by ignoring emails or replying in a rude way (even if it concerns visa queries). To get assistance, it often took many phone calls and emails. I saw some students being treated unfairly because of their nationality. I was disappointed that the university didn't do much to help us get ready for our careers. Even though there are big companies like Google located nearby, the internships offered by the school were often not paid and came from small local companies. Many students fail to establish valuable connections in Dubai while studying or find a good job later. I found that not everyone was friendly. Some students only talked in their native languages, even in class. Events that can unite all students are rare, student life is boring and limited. Cheating, collusion, and copying happened during exams and assignments, and some students tried to get others in trouble for no reason. Grouping was too prevalent, making it hard to make friends and participate in events. The campus is small and gets crowded, noisy, and stuffy, with students destroying property and leaving garbage. The library is used for socializing, and classrooms are tiny. Other facilities like a gym, dance room, study room, or art room do not exist. Most of the second floor is taken by staff offices, so the campus is too small. There was too much group work in every unit, and it was unfair. Most times, a few people did most of the work, but we all got the same grade. Some students did not do any written work, did not show up for group presentations, or presented last-minute work. Teachers refused to help with this issue, and students were rarely penalized for not doing work or submitting it late. Most group work included a report and a presentation with a similar topic for every unit. I felt like the university cared more about making money than about us, and some students were forced to repeat units and pay more. Grading was done in a way that any student could fail easily, and grades depended on relationships with teachers. Student services often mishandled documents, causing confusion or forgetting to inform students about important processes (for which students were blamed later). Some things, like old furniture and confusing marking criteria, didn't change even though we talked about them to the staff. Scholarships were used more as a marketing tool than to reward existing hardworking students. In general, it felt like students were treated like employees rather than valuable members of the community. Once you start studying, the staff becomes rude, dismissive, and unhelpful. It also felt like the quality of education and support got worse over the years. All of this does not align with the overly high tuition.

UPDATE 09/2014: The university has always been great at working off feedback given by students. Since the time this review was posted the university has refurbished its facilities, replaced the rocks for actual chairs and replaced all broken or damaged items in class rooms. Once again I would like to stress the lecturers currently employed in the university are highly capable and extremely knowledgeable, this is the greatest strength of the university. ORIGINAL REVIEW: The university is understaffed and does not offer enough units per semester. Many of the students including me get delayed on graduation since they would not offer all the units required to collect up my university credits. The campus is tiny and in the last few years started to becoming run-down. There are projection screens missing, the chairs are damaged and they have only one actual size computer lab the other two are about the size of your walk in closet. Also in the walk in closets (Computer Labs) they have wooden chairs which are slightly less comfortable than sitting on the pointed edges of rocks. The university many times does not perform proper diligence before hiring new teachers therefore leading to disastrous results. All things aside the staff in the university is extremely friendly. The university actually offers students education and does not only aim to teach you what you need to pass the units. Do not join the university if you are lazy or feel you wont be able to handle a large workload. All of the teachers CURRENTLY employed are highly capable to offer quality education in the few units they offer.

I'd like to share some observations about my journey at Murdoch University, starting with the positive aspects. I've had a great experience during my time at Murdoch. They offer a diverse range of units, including the double major degree, which has been quite impressive. Additionally, I've found the faculty and staff to be consistently friendly and supportive whenever I've needed assistance. Just wanted to share something I came across today regarding my studies at Murdoch University. So, I'm in my final year, and I've got 2 units left to complete. But here's the twist - one of the units I wanted to take isn't available this coming trimester. I thought, "No worries, I'll just check out the nearby university that offers Australian degrees." I reached out to them, they said. They can't accept my enrollment because, get this, Murdoch Dubai isn't accredited by MOHE but only licensed by KHDA. But wait, there's more. It turns out that even if I plan to do my master's later on, Murdoch Dubai not being accredited might throw a spanner in the works. It's not just about the degree itself, but how it can affect our future opportunities. Just wanted to let you all know about this in case you ever find yourself in a similar situation. I want to emphasize that while these accreditation concerns are important to be aware of, my overall experience at Murdoch University has been filled with positive moments and personal growth.

My name is Gaurav and I am currently enrolled in Murdoch University Dubai. I grew up in Belgium and later moved to Shanghai. During my stay in both places I had the opportunity to study in international schools where I was immersed in a multicultural environment. I believe that to improve as a student you should be surrounded by a nurturing environment where you are encouraged to reach your potential. The lecturers at Murdoch take the time to understand students as individuals and cater to their personal needs which is a valuable asset in any academic institute. It is rare to find a university where mentors will go out of their way to ensure their students well being. Rest assured that if it is academic excellence you are seeking, Murdoch is the place for you. Aside from having a strong basis in academia, Murdoch also offers the chance to excel in your field of interest. The staff is dedicated to helping you find internships and guide you in furthering your goals. As with everything in life, the experience you have is what you make of it. I strongly recommend Murdoch to any prospective students who are interested in becoming well-rounded members of society.

Alumni class of 2018 Business Commerce. - Lecturers are highly capable but lacked the state of the art resources but they provided the best they can which was alright. I see now they've moved to a different branch and I envy the current students. - Murdoch's strongest courses are Journalism, Communication, and IT. It's hard to gauge the quality of Business courses in a saturated market, to be honest. Proud to say I learned more and was able to apply in life what I learned in Journalism/Communication classes. - Post-graduate services such as degree collection, obtaining true copies etc were a breeze. The faculty were extremely helpful and friendly. I understand its business but it would be great for Murdoch to screen potential future students before admitting them for their character. I just read the other negative reviews and as an Alumni it doesn't add up (unless the person who wrote the review ever studied/graduated from Murdoch). Maybe I had the opportunity of experiencing a great community back in the day, and I hope Murdoch can keep that spirit alive.

I was a student in this university for over a year, in my first trimester the staff were very supportive with my queries, however once you go on to your next trimesters, the staff would become rude and unsupportive, they have this attitude like they don't want you to be part of their community (this is not directed to the lecturers who are very supportive towards me). oh and when you try to contact them, they recognize your number and simply ignore it, unless you contact them from a different number they would answer within seconds, now some may say that oh its just a coincidence, but this has happened multiple times, and with multiple friends of mine. It really baffles me that the people that were supposed to be supportive towards their students are so arrogant and self-absorbed would work under this title that was meant to help students find solution to their problems. the university is great, student services not so great

Great university with an amazing faculty. I completed my post graduation from their previous campus which was in DIAC. This campus is a bigger, better version of their previous campus. The staff and faculty members were amazing, specially Mr Manoaj, Ms Mahima and rest of them too, Mr Moses who used to serve at the reception was a Jolly and happy face to see as soon as we would enter the premises. The only negative point of this University is that they do not have job placement opportunities, nor do they have any career assistance or counselling, wether it is the under graduate or the post graduate. So if you are joining for under graduates, please understand that you will be on your own after you graduate and for post graduates please join if you are well established with your current job role. The way this university places itself with fees and ranking is at a higher end, so I believe Job assistance is a must.

In my experience, I found the quality of the lecturers and administration staff at Murdoch Dubai to be very supportive throughout my MBA. This was a factor I had not anticipated would have so much impact on my learning experience. A large majority of the lecturers I encountered had solid practical experience as well as a wealth of academic credibility. Adding to this, the presentation of information was for the most part, delivered in an effective style. Working with an Australian curriculum worked for me because of my background and experience. I found the material applicable to the current business climate and additionally, relevant for this region. What would add further benefit to the experience would be a stronger cohesive factor between the MBA students.

My matter of concern is regarding the Data Structures and Abstractions Unit that has become a significant focal point within the campus. A considerable number of students are facing challenges, leading to drops and failures. It is imperative for the university give this matter its utmost attention promptly. The elevated rate of student failures should be a cause for serious concern. It is imperative to gather information about the historical performance and failure rates associated with this specific module. It is essential to gain insights into the proactive measures and strategies that the University is implementing to enhance the success rate and ensure that their students are passing this particular module rather than encountering failures and drop outs.

I visited the campus after 5PM when all the addmission officers had left the university. However, I was guided very warmly by the staff, and explained the course in detail. Moreover, I was offered a tour which was a pleasant surprise (Unlike Heriot-Watt in which it was a violation of teams, I still dont understand how.) They had 2 floors with decently large classrooms. Moreover, they had 2 gaming room, one of them had a xbox Series S for 2 people, and the other room had 2 arcades with some board games. however, I love they atleast took an initiative about it. I really like the library. It was pretty big and had a decent collection of books. I loved the tour and hope to enter as a student there.

During my time studying in Murdoch, there honestly could have been more improvements. The only aspect I actually enjoyed during my time as a student were the lecturers (or at least the lecturers I had were AMAZING - shout out to Sir Joseph Nalloor!) Even when the admin staff can be unfriendly at times, even when the student activities/events were uninteresting - you can count on the fact that their lecturers actually care about you and your education, provided you put in the work! :)

I have had a great time studying at Murdoch University Dubai. The flexibility of completing double majors degree within the same time span like the rest has helped me plan my career really well. It is well-designed to suit each individual's interest and caliber. Additionally, the lecturers were always friendly and approachable with giving us great insights into the subject. Apart from academics, Murdoch University was more like a family to me - those were the best three years!!!

This University has been like my family to be honest, I was alone when I joined back in 2017 but I was overwhelmed by the support of staff, teachers and students. Afterthat, never felt alone and enjoyed each and everyday I spent in the Uni. One of the great experience of my life while studying in Murdoch Dubai University.

  • Abdul Rahman Al Muhairi
