  • "Wow"

"I have 3 members of my family buried at Mt"

"This is the cemetery my sister is buried at and I love how it feels every time I come here! The grounds are always very well maintained, there are usually quite a few deer which never fails to put a smile on my face, windchimes in many of the trees that people have brought for their loved ones, beautiful views, and just an all around peaceful feel to it! I gave 4 instead of 5 stars because I purchased a headstone from a different company and was told only the cemetery can put it in, so it was an extra 125"

    "A beautiful, meditative place"

"I've been dead for years and I couldn't have asked for a better final resting place"

Wow.. just wow. First of all I'm giving it 1 star because it is beyond enchanting and amazing. Second, I am an owner of a photography business and I was doing a spooky shoot with some girls on the cemetery property. I had checked online for closing times and rules of the property before going, as I always do. So we shoot for a couple hours, people stop by and tell us how cool the girls' costumes look etc. We are finishing up, when the grounds keeper pulls up and begins to tell us off "No one wants to see you prancing around here, insensitive. Maybe you should learn a thing or two. We close at 6 and this is not allowed!" I apologize and tell him we are just about to leave and that we had seen others taking pictures here just a few minutes ago. The website said they were open until 8 and no where had it said photography was not permitted on the site. He tell us off again, embarrassing me in front of my clients, then drives away. We walk back to our car, which was parked on the other side of the cemetery so it took us awhile to get back. But we get back to the cars and the girls need to change out of their costumes, when the grounds keeper pulls up again next to us and begins AGAIN to tell me off "I bet you've never had anyone die, but no one wants to see this." And so on and so on for a good 5 minutes. The whole time I'm keeping a level head and being very respectful. He continues, trying to provoke me! He starts to drive off again after he sees he is not going to get a reaction out of me. I begin to tell my clients good bye and he slams on his breaks and screams at us "I told you to get out!" I am disgusted and so disappointed in this man's actions. He was so incredibly rude, when there was absolutely no reason to be. Understandably, he had a job to do, but he for sure didn't need to act like a wild child while fulfilling it. And this doesn't sound like a one time thing, It seems others have had similar experiences with the same man. Sickened and disgusted by the actions of this man.

I have 3 members of my family buried at Mt. Olivet, two of whom are my parents. My sister and I visited this Memorial Day and were very disappointed and saddened. From the vantage point of my parent's grave I counted 17 very dead trees. We prepared to tidy the gravestones, there were only weeds and dry ground. We toured the cemetary in our car and saw the same everywhere, many dead trees, thinning brown grass, a dry fountain and empty flower beds. This is a sad sight of what was once a distinguished 150 year old cemetary in the heart of SLC. We didn't linger. We registered our complaint at the office. I left feeling not much would change and I do wonder what is the responsibility of the cemetary once your plot is bought and your loved one buried. Very sad!

This is the cemetery my sister is buried at and I love how it feels every time I come here! The grounds are always very well maintained, there are usually quite a few deer which never fails to put a smile on my face, windchimes in many of the trees that people have brought for their loved ones, beautiful views, and just an all around peaceful feel to it! I gave 4 instead of 5 stars because I purchased a headstone from a different company and was told only the cemetery can put it in, so it was an extra 125... probably pretty common though! I was just hoping to have it all done at once by the company I chose because I'm impatient, it's done now though and I couldn't be happier ❤

A beautiful, meditative place. It’s so large I found it great for a walk. I look forward to spending more time here. There was so many deer! They were beautiful. When I was driving out, I noticed a family was holding a service down the way and a bunch of the deer crossed the road towards them. I know they were attracted to the flowers but, it was a very beautiful thing to see them gently walking towards a family almost like a little flock of angels. There was very little trash I saw and garbage cans spaced well enough to pocket the trash you do see to drop it off. I’m very happy that Utah has a nice cemetery to stroll through, clear your head and pay respects to the city.

I've been dead for years and I couldn't have asked for a better final resting place. There are few evil persons buried here, and none of them continue to roam the grounds. This helps to provide the right visiting atmosphere at any hour. I meet the nicest neighbors after our loved ones depart. Those of us who visit here often have formed a guardian group. Just as our visitors pay their respects, our group will pick those in most need and guide and protect them together. I am so grateful to have met so many wonderful individuals whose timespans never allowed us to cross paths, but whose neighboring burials have.

08.09.22: This is one of the best places to go to in Salt Lake City when it isn’t too hot. Peaceful & serene. Staff respects all visitors. I have never felt unwelcome or unwanted here. There are times when I come here for comfort. There have been times that I come here to lament my own life’s choices. I always respect & appreciate the lives that were lived & the lives you & I are living now. Convenient & tasteful receptacles located throughout Mount Olivet Cemetery to discard any trash or debris. I love this place.

For those of you that aren't familiar with what makes this cemetery unique within the United States, I suggest you take 15 minutes on wiki and have a little history lesson. Mt Olivent is an absolutely stunning cemetery that has a distinctly eastern feel to it. Walking among the gravestones and mausoleums gives a unique perspective on the state’s interesting early residents. Also, it provides a beautiful setting for an evening walk where you can expect to see deer prancing through the lush landscape.

We went and placed flowers on my Grandma McGarry's gravesite. This is a wonderful cemetery. They keep it nice and clean and there are wildlife roaming throughout. We saw resident deer and geese with many fuzzy gray goslings. There is plenty of room to park on the side and let cars pass too. Flags available for veterans at the house by the entrance. Happy Memorial Day and thank you to our veterans!

The upkeep of the grounds in this cemetery is disgraceful. Sure, they keep the lawns mowed, but there are almost as many weeds as there is grass and there are big dry patches and dead trees. The chain link fence surrounding the cemetery is rusted and looks awful. This cemetery is historic and it’s wonderful to see deer wandering the property, but it’s a shame they don’t take better care of it.

Closed on Sunday! What? This day makes people feel close to God, when they visit! In 2021 year, they chose to be closed on Sundays! Antichrists!! I think we should sue! My daughter was visiting from Ohio, (2021) as she was very sad that she couldn't visit that Sunday as the website stated Mt Olivet was closed!! She was quite upset, we are too!

Our son passed away April 2019, the caretakers of Mt Olivet we’re kind, compassionate thoughtful and very helpful at our time of sorrow. The cemetery is beautiful, very peaceful and comforting, it is nice to go there and sit and reflect on Nathan and his life. Beautiful place.

Pam helped me choose a grave for myself and my husband. She narrowed it down to three places and walked me through all the choices personally. The deer that live there are calm and docile, the squirrels are everywhere and fun to watch. Good prices, kind and efficient staffing.

Spent over an hour trying to find my great grandfathers headstone after traveling to Utah from Florida. Since it was a Sunday, no one was around. The online map was useless since the streets aren’t marked and their website looks like it was built by a 2-year old.

Absolutely love this cemetery both my parents are buried here and I love seeing the deer and the geese, I also love walking around and seeing all the older graves, I wish they would take care of the older graves cuz a lot of them are SO damaged

A cemetery that provides a beautiful sight, when you wait at stadium station. I went a few times in to look around. There are I think, deer in the cemetery. Also the place is difficult to some when it is just after snow, and roads are icy.

We visit our friends grave every weekend. And this weekend the lawn guy kicked us out while we were walking to our friends grave. Said something about playing a game. He was EXTREMELY rude and no other staff will return our calls.

  • HummingBird

Service animals are not allowed. I was told they are discriminating against the disabled on religious grounds. Do not waste your money here if you or any other of the bereaved are deaf, blind, or requires a service animal

Mt Olivet it is the most wonderful cemetery anyone Time I get that could ever want to bury their loved one in. They are so kind and caring☦ I would bury all of my family members in Mount Olive cemetery!! …

  • Cynthia Fullerton

The people that run Mount Olivet are always very nice and helpful. My husband and I bought our plot here. It is a very unique place. We love that this is where we will be.

Mi Familia, Beautiful family areas and mule deer in late Summer. Giant Oak leaves fall in late October in the South. The first non- denominational cemetery in the state.

  • David Molina López

The staff hates the fact that it's a great place to find ghost pokemon hahaha. If you are into Pokemon Go you need to go there, but be careful xD

  • Mandy Bowen

The grounds keeping is horrible. There is no weed control. There are dead trees. Very disappointing when I go to visit my grandparents.

  • Dawna Stevens

The cemetery is in beautiful surroundings and the wild animals add an even nicer atmosphere. The staff could be more helpful though.

  • Susan Spradlin

Lovely, quiet, peaceful . Actually a great place to go walking and see deer! Right next to the University and easily accessible
