Mont De Lancey Museum was officially opened on March 14th 1993 by the Honorable Pat McNamara MP, Deputy Premier & Minister for Tourism The family, working and social life of the pioneer families of Wandin and District displayed in an extensive collection of photographs and artefacts in our Museum. Photographs include… The people: wedding and family groups, sports teams and school groups, work scenes and social functions. The town: churches and schools, public buildings and businesses, early transport and homes. Agriculture and Industry: berry and passionfruit plantations, orchards and farms, the jam factories and timber mills, and the traders. Displays under glass include household and personal items: china, silverware, clothing, jewellery and service medals. The mezzanine display includes a large collection of hand tools such as those used to clear and cultivate the land, and build fences and simple slab houses.

An absolutely amazing experience, the tour of the historic home was conducted by local volunteers and it gave a such good insight of the original settlers of the place. There's an actual blacksmith running we just didn't get to see it because we went on a public holiday. There's also a cute cafe if you want refreshments and the area was so pretty, perfect for a photoshoot. They have a chapel which is well maintained for wedding purposes. On the way out we got some handmade jams and honestly, so much better than some of the store bought ones. Souvenirs are very reasonably priced as well we got magnets for 2 dollars each. If you are in for a little history lesson, be sure to check them out!

Great planes for the whole family to visit! Interesting things to see & do for all ages as well! Very historic & picturesque surroundings, great for photographers of all abilities, with beautiful hillsides in the background! There's a gift shop full of handcrafted items, local & otherwise, a Museum chronicling the history of the venue & surrounds, working blacksmith's shop & woodworking shop that run classes (see website for available days & times) as well as a fully functioning cafe & bar called 'Two Peas in Their Pod' with fair prices & lovely, friendly staff throughout the whole complex! Take a trip & make a day of it while we're still having some good weather, you won't be disappointed!

A wonderful day out here. Lovely well cared for grounds Great for photos but it was cloudy when we visited - still photos were decent (check them out). Friendly volunteers with an excellent guide (thank you Rhonda!) leading the way in showcasing a few of the historic buildings. A small museum as well but we didn't have the time to browse thoroughly. A must go if you're in the vicinity perhaps at the start of their opening hours so that the family has time to take it all in. It was quiet on Wednesday and the smithy was "closed" but we did get an impromptu tour of the large blacksmith building which was awesome. Bought a few items there which will make great keepsakes. Highly recommended!

Check the barn is open before you go. I think barn open last sunday of the month. Fantastic place only about an hour from melb in Wandin North. Has homestead and sheds to check and has the working steam engines and kerosene engines. Great. And a great bar where beers stubbies and generous glasses of wine are only $5. Great cheese platters for $10. Xlnt place to spend a few enjoyable hours. A fair is on last Sunday of some months. check on website . Xlnt. 280719.. went again. Still geat cheap beer and generous wines. Small range of food but all xlnt. Cheese plstters big and cheap. Booked table for 9 and was ready for us.

I absolutely love this place. The views, the atmosphere, the gardens, everything is amazing. Go there for a wander through the homestead and the workshops, you won't be disappointed. The museum is actually really interesting and doesn't have "too much" information as some can tend to. The raspberry jam served with the scones is hands down worth a visit for itself, the best I have ever had! We also held our wedding ceramony here and it was truly magic. Everything was set up for us, we had the run of their beautiful gardens for our photos. I couldn't recommend Suzanne highly enough, our day was perfect.

A lovely setting for our son's wedding ceremony. Venues could be the gazebo, chapel or the museum as chosen on 17th December. The Museum holds 100 seated comfortably. Balcony upstairs allowed for the musicians to play and have their music waft down to the guests. Outside for the photos gave a variety of background buildings / trees. I would highly recommend Mont De Lancey as a beautiful location and a very reasonable cost. Guests then travelled to Casalinga Restaurant Croydon for the reception. Thank you to the staff who could not have been more helpful and courteous before and on the day.

Mont De Lancey is a great place to visit for a few hours rich in history. The 1hr Yesterday tour I paid $15:00 for was well worth it. Our tour guide Peter i think his name was very friendly and informative about the place and the local history. He also happily answered any questions we had. The two peas in pod cafe has some yummy snacks, light lunches and drinks reasonably priced. The museum and gift shop areas were great to browse through as well. I definitely recommend a look.

Mont De Lancey in Silvan was well worth a visit. Lovely morning tea end lunch in the cafe. For $10.00 you can do a tour of the beautiful gardens, the gorgeous homestead plus so many other fascinating out buildings. Set in stunning scenery it's a wonderful way to learn about the early settlers and how they lived. The guides are lovely and so informative. Thank you for a wonderful day out.

We travelled over 800km from Sydney to find the best place to have an authentic, historical and relaxing cup of tea with scones in Victoria. Monty's tea room at the beautiful historic Mont De Lancey is that piece of heaven we were looking for. The scones are baked on site and the raspberry jam and cream are all freshly home made. We would highly recommend this place not only for the food but also as an educational historic site fully run by amazing local volunteers.

Really beautiful place to visit, museum was interesting (well what we saw of it, was closed for the blacksmiths festival). Can see why people choose to have weddings here too. Perfect location for it. We saw the blacksmiths festival here and the forge is really well stocked, and used! We will definitely be keeping our eye out for other events here.

What a treasure. Not only is there the restored homestead, the museum and a lovely original garden but also a working stationary engine society, blacksmiths and woodworkers. All staffed with passionate, friendly and helpful staff. To finish off there is a delightful tea room featuring genuine home made snacks. A real must visit place.

We were there for the yesteryear festival viewing all the draft horses pulling stays & carriages hay makers etc. Farm working dogs rounding up sheep, many old waterpumps operating that were over 100 years old as is the farm house & every thing on the property, So much to experience, from wool spinning Black Smith shop to the English garden ,model railway, allow at least a day to experience everything.

Filled a good day here enjoyed roaming around the beautiful gardens, view a lot of history, enjoyed a coffee and baked goods at the restaurant also brought crafted goods from the cancer ladies auxiliary display. Had a great day out with my mum and Daughter. Entry fee well worth it.

Great historical homestead . Great volunteers and display amazing . Having such a wonderful time even got to chat with the blacksmiths Then we entered the cafe.. We were greated with I hope you don't want scones.. To an ear ful of how every price of furniture in the cafe belonged to her. We decided to only get takeaway coffee so we could leave... Bitter sweet

Fantastic, great day. Displays excellent, especially watching and talking to Draught horse owners, Blacksmiths and farm machinery. Definitely worth a visit so much to see. Two Peas in their Pod cafe was thoroughly enjoyed as the scones with jam and cream were delicious. Service and friendliness of staff exceptional.

Well worth checking out. Great historical record of the district, and the property. I didn't know it was there, even though I've been near it so many times. I'll be back, there was more information there than I imagined, and there house made jam is yummy.

Beautiful place to visit with a fascinating history. The setting is sublime and it is easy to get there. The volunteer staff are descendants of the original inhabitants and are extremely informative, friendly and helpful. Side bonus is that we were able to purchase a set of fire tongs from the working blacksmith forge! Lovely day out

Not a fan, just not my type of place, historical buildings with outlying historical buildings and old machinery and a cafe. When here for breakfast and it was not spectacular bacon was served over cooked eggs with cold coffee was average.

Wonderful old homestead. Look at how life was like. Blacksmith on site making wonderful gifts. Beautiful gardens some wagon wheel picnic tables with fantastic views over the Yarra Valley. Fantastic Cafe, great food, healthy choices and Vegan food available indoor or outdoor dining with views. Great gift and book shop.

An amazing peice of history situated perfectly in a picturesque location, resting beautifully on the side of flowing hills with gorgeous views of the valley and vineyards. Top notch service with friendly volunteer staff and a well priced cafe. A gorgeous attraction for the whole family. Would rate higher if possible.

Went to check out a Blacksmithing festival. (They were very cool). Also saw some mediaeval smithing and woodworking. Grabbed lunch at the cafe, nice range of options and reasonable prices. Gift shop has some great local jams also.

Beautiful gardens and the blacksmith area was great! The staff were all really friendly and enjoyed welcoming you to the site. The blacksmith staff were particularly funny and also explained quite a bit about what they were doing. A decent cafe on site too for brunch, and some stunning surrounding views.

Beautiful grounds and relaxed atmosphere. Not very crowded which is great if you like a quieter time or have kids (less stress with kids because of smaller crowds). We went to the Draught horse and yesteryear festival, don't know what it's like when there isn't a function on. Weddings can be held here

The tour and the museum were both fantastic! My highlights were the church, the shed kitchen, the silk embroidered greeting cards that Australian soldiers sent back home from France on WW1 and the fantastic view onto the misty Yarra Ranges - there is something for everyone.

Beautifully restored and maintained historical house. There is a chapel, main house, kitchen area, and various old sheds with old decor and artifacts. Plenty of nice gardens for photos. The staff are friendly and accommodating of needs. Small entree fee payment required.

So we got married at mont de Lancey through a beautiful lady suzanna who organised a very nice wedding. We got Married under a 150 year old oak tree. Then continued the night in a old rustic barn style building. Highly recommend to get married there through suzanna

We were part of the Wessex Viking age, medieval reenactment group, that had a working display set up. The crowd, over the weekend seemed to be having a great time.

A beautiful property with amazing views. The displays were great, however much is looking a little tired and dated, especially the labelling. The way some items were displayed was a cringe worthy. Well worth a visit and the Devonshire Tea was superb.

Went as part of a school excursion. It was extremely well organised, very informative and enjoyable. You come away with a good idea of how life was back then. The staff & volunteers were awesome. Would definitely recommend.

At Mont De Lacy its a beautiful property, the blacksmith area was very excellent! The workers were friendly. The blacksmith staff were particularly nice and also taught a lot about what they were doing. We had fun here.

Lovely afternoon walking through the gardens and museum. We took a tour through which we got to see the chapel, house, kitchen and operating blacksmith. Highly recommended for those who are interested in local history.

My kids love this place. The people are very engaging, they take the time to tell you a story about what you're looking at. Been a couple of times now & will happily go back. The Cafe had tasty treats for young & old.

Never thought you would find this place in Melbourne. This place is rich in history and was well maintained by volunteers. Highly recommended for a half day trip here for those who want to soak in some history.

The homestead tour was very interesting. All the volunteers were knowledgeable and helpful. I recommend visiting when the working blacksmith is open because that was a highlight. Lovely scones at the cafe too!
