Just got back from Dublin and miss it so randomly decided to go to McCarthy. The Irish coffee is so good, if you like Buena Vista Irish Coffee ask for 2 sugar cubes, it's Ireland Irish coffee level good. Love it. Good vibe. Good place to watch a game with friendly strangers. Food is from Franco's Latin Table ( also one of my favorite restaurant in West Portal). ☘️

No dart board, no pool table, lots of smoke in the room. $6 beers. Small typical dive bar. Tj's was better. Could have been years since it was open down the block.. Not too many places like it in the west portal hood... Except for philosophers club and its better too. Up by the muni station in uloa. Last thought. Beer was cold and fresh.

A real Irish Bar. If you are looking for a good pint and a shot of Irish Whiskey this is the place. The vibe was relaxed. It was the 23rd of December so I didn't expect to much. Only downside is hard liquor variety is limited. I will go back however

Very nice. Eileen (sorry if I've misspelled your name) is very kind and attentive. The only things missing were some single Irish guys, though that's not the fault of the bar. Overall very clean and a relaxed atmosphere. Drinks are pretty good, and not overpriced.

This is a neighborhood Irish bar where locals gather to watch ball games in the city while enjoying a pint of Guinness away from the crowded SF. They serve popular Irish fairs from Franco's Latin table next door.

We popped in a couple of times recently, and I enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere. Irene behind the bar is great to chat with. Her Irish accent is fully preserved even after decades here. She's charming and down to earth. Go visit her and have a brew or cocktail.

McCarthy's is a classic neighborhood pub with really great energy. Friendly bartenders, owner who treats her customers really well, puts out free food during 49er games. Great place to watch football games with friends while having some cold beers, I highly recommend this business

Giving this a 5 stars, cant comment on the food as I just came for the Guinness. If looking for a good of the black stuff, well this has to be on the list when you’re visiting San Francisco. I went to three pubs for the Guinness on my trip

  • Fred

Good mood, cozy, awesome beer and nice people. That's a good combination. The owner said his bar serves the best Guinness in town and yes, it was poured real good. It was just a pity they hadn't some craft beers.

  • Olivia Ineson

Staff were extremely rude and ignorant. If you are looking to watch football (soccer) don't go to this bar as they don't show it …so called Irish bar ha!

Nice, local Irish Pub in the West Portal area of SF. We played the pipes for them on St. Patrick's day to thunderous applause and free Guinness. :-)

Honestly one of the best real Irish bars in SF also go to West Portal if you have not visited great exurbs for SF good restaurants and bookstore.
