Had been doing business with the Nearly New since the 1990s as both a buyer and consignor. During those years, most experiences were positive. Some lovely people have volunteered there. However, to my outrage, a recent experience later this year (2018) was nothing short of an abhorrent disgrace, and merits an external investigation. Brought in approx. 12 items to try to consign. 2 volunteers at the back counter (where consignment take-ins are brought for assessment)- one of the volunteers in particular- was execrably rude, hostile, and nasty towards me; treating me like a scummy child (am in my mid-40s, and a full-time employed, well-groomed, articulate office manager). She had chin length blonde hair, Caucasian, approx. late 60s. She made several snotty, condescending comments regarding a few of my items which she rejected, and twice told me while flicking her hand to 'shoo' me away: "If you want to go and do some shopping in the store, we will attend to this." Each time, I informed her that I would be staying with my items during her evaluation of them. This visibly displeased her. Over the years, whenever taking in items to consign, the consignor has been encouraged to give their input regarding the potential price to list, sizes, plus drawing attention to any details of each item. This volunteer very angrily snarled at me when I 'dared' to politely mention that one of my items was brand new with tags: "Look, if you want to consign your items here, JUST STOP IT! 'I' am the expert, so 'I' know what prices to decide on!". Her co-volunteer (late 60s, short blonde hair) staffing the computer across the desk doing data entry supported the nastiness: "WE know what we are speaking about. WE have the knowledge!" These 'charming' volunteers were not aware that I used to work at another downtown Oakville consignment shop. The volunteer with chin length blonde hair eventually asked me regarding the size of one of my items. I asked, "Oh, am I permitted to speak?", to which she replied, "OH, JUST STOP IT!!". I was shocked by this brazenly abusive treatment. To add insult to injury, one of the items I had brought in to consign had gone missing; this was not noticed until after leaving the store due to my shock. It was last seen along with my other items that were brought in. After speaking over the phone with the store's director (Lori) to report the incident, she told me one week later that the volunteers told her they "were very busy that day" and "felt under pressure". Neither volunteer made any apology regarding their despicable treatment towards me; they only made the aforementioned excuse. If their volunteer position is 'so stressful' for them, obviously they should resign. Regarding my lost item: Lori stated it had been found, but asked whether I had purchased it at their store previously. Yes, I had done so; the item was part of a 2-piece set (a bodice and jacket), which was sold together as a 2-piece set, however I had only wanted to keep the jacket and re-consign the bodice. Lori claimed that the bodice had another price tag on it as a separate piece, and at my time of my purchasing the set, I'd apparently only been charged for the 1 item. I never saw any other price tag on the bodice; nor did the volunteer at the time. The 2 pieces were clearly sold together as a set. Lori insisted otherwise. Unfortunately, there is now no means for me to prove otherwise. She knows this. This purported charity and some of its current volunteers need to be audited by an external, impartial organization for the underhanded and suspicious practices which appear to be taking place. Most of the other comments here indicate this is warranted. Am anticipating some sort of retaliation by the Nearly New for my honest comments; that's my cross to bear. However, the truth needs to be disclosed publicly.

If there was less than zero star rating I would choose it. These people are very horrible. I was accused of writing a bad review about this place, but I didn't. I am writing this to warn people not to trust the people running this store. This place is a scam. I feel heart broken because I brought about 86 items to consign, just because I'm a single mom with many severe health problems and can't work. So to help to have money trickle in I thought I could give this place a try. Due to my health conditions I cannot carry a big box, and my clothes expired on February 13. I called in advance on Friday February 9 at 1:27pm to ask if I they would be able to pull my clothing so that they don't clearance them out and basically claim them their property. The supervisor said that they would pull them when they expire and that I could collect them on Saturday. so I called again Thursday to see if they kept their word, but you know what they did? they claimed all 36 items as their property and all the money that customers would pay would go to them. I spent at least $500 on all those designer brands that it hurts my already malfunctioning heart as a big blow. The supervisor named Jennifer told me that I can't talk to the director of the store Lori because she is on vacation. So what can I do? They are scam artists as I repeat. How can they claim to be a charity to help those in need when they are busy ripping me off as a someone who needs money? They told me that it would take too much time of the volunteers to pull the clothes for me. So what is the purpose of the store to make money at all costs? even if that means ripping off the poor who come to their door to consign things because they desperately need money? These people are awful. Especially that director of the store Lori who has the final say on everything. I spoke with her husband Paul and he asked a lot of personal questions, and I poured out my heart to explain my difficult financial and health problems I am experiencing. He said he would explain all to Lori to try to convince her to let me collect the 33 clothes. what happened? She ends up telling me too bad...basically. With brands I consigned are brands like Tristan, Guess, Calvin Klein , Armani, Mendocino , etc. Sigh...my heart just hurts from this loss. Some of the clothes I bought from Italy too. Avoid these horrible people!! Buy your clothes at garage sales and outlets! No point in supporting scammers who disguise themselves as doing good and then they malfunction by saying they have a business to run. I was supposed to take this review down in exchange for them to have given me back all my clothes. I need to warn people to not come to this place. After todays experience and i need to share it. They kept 27 items and or sold them and kept the money for themselves! I called one week in advance before my clothes expired so that it would stop them from clearancing them out and keeping the money. They kept all the expensive things of mine like a suede jacket and my Abercrombie jackets and my guess tops, my Calvin Klein jeans, my Levi's jeans, my jeans from Italy, my pieces from Italy. At least they could have done is not keep the money but to give me the money they sold my clothes for half the price instead of keeping it for their own own called charity. The approximate amount they made and kept was $184 , and yes it is a big deal! My heart problems increased because of this place.

I went to the shop yesterday with my mom at the end of our lovely girls day. Although the selection of products are nice, the attitude of one of the staff members was appalling. She treated my mom as if she was a second class citizen. I don't know her name, but she has shoulder length hair blonde hair and was wearing a beige and black sweater. She was standing in the middle of the narrow walk way, at the back of the store in front of the desk where the employees receive donations or items for consignment. My mom asked me where the change room is and this lady turned around and gave my mom a dirty look. Then I tried to get around out of the dress section and over to where my mom was to show her the change room and I said excuse me three times, and the employee did not even budge. So I had to pretty much squeeze through.. it was laughable how rude she was!! A few minutes later after my mom had tried on a dress, we walked back to hang the dress up where we found it and my mom asked that lady if the shoes she had in her hands were for sale. And she turned around with a snotty look on her face and spoke loud and slow with her eyes wide (to show that she was pissed off) and said I am TRYING to price them, so as SOON as I am FINISHED, then YES they will be for sale OKAY.... Dragging out every word that I just capitalized. Being in sales and dealing with the public daily I felt it necessary to write this review. She needs her attitude checked, I think that the tone and manner in which she treated my mom was uncalled for. Based on her bad attitude and how she made us both feel, I will never go back to this shop.

Extremely disappointed. I use to consign with them back in 2000 when I lived there & they were pretty good. Now I drove in from Kitchener to consign with them again and 1) they lost an item when it was time to pick up 2) person quoting prices was shockingly low as these were all designer items 3) person in charge of store told me they had theft problem 3) didn't even offer to give me the 50% or any other option like credit 4) the ladies are chatting amongst themselves all the time, I know they are volunteers but come on - no professionalism customer service to the public at all 5) the ladies at the store were trying on clothes and doing their own shopping of these items being brought in - so disgusted with their behaviour. It's such a shame that this place and what it stands for has deteriorated so badly. Also just last few weeks drove by and when I asked about theft, cashier confirmed - oh yes we still have an internal theft problem. I think it's time they really watch and bond the people who volunteer there. Let's see how long it will take for them to clean these issues up and take this place seriously, with professionalism and remembering why they are there.

horrible people, my friend had explained to them that she is a single mom of two, she has a brain tumour and heart problems and that she has difficulties with transportation. she consigned clothes with them and her clothes reached the one month deadline. so she then asked them to extend the deadline to allow for her clothes to sell because she cannot work in her medical situation. they basically told her too bad and that they won't do that for her. they call themselves a charitable organizations but they are heartless and only care about how it would inconvenience them. don't bother coming here. they are hypocrites!

  • BW

Very disappointed in policy that items under fifty dollars unsold become theirs. When pieces you know are worth more second hand. Very low pricing on items that are new. Lesson learned. I agree with other review. It's either a warm welcome or you feel like dirt when you go in. We all in life may not need to sell items because it's financial necessary. Luckily there are still very nice people working in store. Guess you need to read bottom note on consignment print out..unless over 50.00 it's donated to MayCourt. After 30 days.

Be prepared to be abused and treated very poorly by just about every volunteer that "helps" out in this shop! It is shocking how they get away with this sort of customer service. They talk among themselves, whispering and looking people up and down. They need to have a meeting, a big one, and told that if they want to volunteer here they must treat everyone with respect and kindness. Warning you must have "Thick Skin" if you want to shop or consign here.

On several occasions I had my consignment items stolen.I know the staff are all volunteers, but aren't they there to help with the charitable organization? Most recently a very expensive pair of shoes went missing. How did that happen?Never will take anything there again.I suggest others beware!

I was disappointed today. The lady standing behind the desk completely ignored my hello as I walked in. She looked unhappy to be there. Imagine making eye contact with someone and they ignore your hello. Custom service really is dead in 2022. Thankfully the lady in the green dress greeted me.

Avoid! Rude, condescending, catty old ladies that act like you are intruding when you were going to shop. Dress down when shopping there and you'll get a completely different reception. **** off May Court. How's that for just desserts, which many of the current staff should skip.
