I grew up in a mixed family as a preteen and adolescent during the 60s and '70s. We lived in Long Beach CA. My stepfather and primary male role model, L.T., was (God rest his soul) a black man who grew up on the same land where his great great grandparents were enslaved in Williamsburg VA. He was not a bigoted man and had huge capacity for love. LA County was one of the most racially charged places on the planet where a white woman married to a black man had no choice but to live in a black neighborhood. Our family followed Dr Martin Luther King Jr throughout his ministry and his dream was our dream. For most people under 65 years of age his dream of inclusive unconditional universal love has become cliche. The dream of living in peace and love is gone and has been replaced with hatred. I go to MLK Memorial Park at least twice a month to pray and reflect in this beautiful outdoor setting. More often than not there is no one else. The 4 star rating is because the city does an extremely poor job maintaining the fountain and reflection pool. There are no conveniences such as restrooms, water fountains, playgrounds, picnic areas, or pet areas. It is local to the Blue Dog Pond off leash area and the tennis center. ALL LIVES OF THE IMPOVERISHED MATTER! Identify as an American first! And as white, native, black, hispanic/latino, islander, asian, jewish, islamic, christian, etc. second. These pronouns focus on our differences and create division. I am American before all else! That is my nomenclature throughout the world. That is except here in the U.S. Our enemies do not apply pronouns as they attempt take away our freedom and liberty. It's time to build a Nation of inclusiveness, unconditional universal love, and equitable prosperity. A Nation divided falls. Sorry about the soapbox but these are some of the things I think about when I think about MLK.

Yea This park was the beganning of a lyfe that didnt come Ez. Brick by Brick I was boycotted by my own people Eddie Rye....But too be here and know that my back when into such a place ask me why I keep this look on my face....Construction 35 years now Im retired and can sit back and enjoy it with all my kids too come....We tend too forget about all that was before Us ans just think of self. As for myself I choose too understand why im here and what my job has been sence ive been here and the path He's givin you and someone gave you that right too sit there. So dont sit there as if its a right of untitlement its a right so why is that your still there and not movin..."still dose mean no moving.....2019 stay movin

08/12/23: To me, it is a very historical and honorable park since it honors Dr. King’s life. It is upsetting that I saw too many ducks poops here on the memos and around the parks. Hopefully, we can clean up to return back the beautiful original state of the park. I feel relaxed and enjoyable during my visit and also take a good time to read through his life and movements. I feel fortunate to visit this awesome park

This is a nice little park; the pool is crystal clear and clean. From atop the hill, you can have a nice view of the Seattle skyscrapers. I'm here with about 80 others, including elected officials to commemorate the day MLK, Jr. was assassinated. Through unity, there's nothing we can't do. Live long and prosper.

This park is highly underrated in my experience as it is a great park tucked away and offers a beautiful view of downtown, a quiet refuge from traffic, a circling walkway that gradually guides you up the hill, a fountain and beautiful statue, and many plaques dedicated to the man in which it is named for.

This memorial park feels both austere and intimate, with the fountain at the center of the bottom of a small hill, encircled by different levels of paths. Sitting anywhere on the path and facing the central fountain, you'll get a good open view. Good place to relax or reflect.

Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Park is one of my favorite parks in Seattle. This park is a great space to enjoy a nice day as it's on a hill and faces west so you can get some great sun if it's nice out. There is also a beautiful fountain and memorial plaques.

I wish the fountain was always on "like a river" but worth a visit to read the words and reflect on the great blessing Dr. Martin Luther King Jr's life continues to ripple across our time.

  • Marc Tegen

Nice memorial type park overall. Parking could be better. Although I'm not from the area this would be a really nice place for theatre style outdoor events that respected the memorial.

I wish Filipino (festival) pista sinayon could be here vs Seward park: MLK more handicap accessible, keeps people closer together rather than spread apart, more centrally locates.

Expected basic things!! Books, pictures, highlighting life of MLK Jr- didn't find any Sufficient place is available for providing basic amenities, but ... .

Great spot for relaxation and thought. It's usually pretty quiet here, but there are 3 pokestops at this park which can bring the family fun.

  • Michael Lynch

Great open space with auditorium style 'seating' on the hill. Fountain is a great place for kids to dip their feet on a hot day.

  • Cindy Sawyer

There was absolutely nothing to this park. I didn't see benches or picnic tables. Just dried grass. And a monument.

  • Heather A Adams

Really lovely park with a soothing water feature and a tiered hill, there are plugs. Doesn’t seem to have bathrooms

  • Robert Tegland

Cool park. Great please to fly a camera drone especially on weekends when nobody is There except the homeless.
