Nice enough place. If you lived in the area, it would be a good spot for picnics and walks. As a traveller, it's an OK spot to stretch your legs. The faux waterfall, a nice lily pad pond and the towering dam wall make for an interesting wander. Really enjoyed seeing the rubbish strewn at the bottom of the falls by wonderful humans who obviously think the 'take your rubbish with you' policy doesn't apply to them, and that chucking their rubbish in a waterway is OK if it means keeping the inside of their massive $100k suburban 4WD clean. 9/10 on the Old Fat Cow Rating Scale - paths nice and flat, and it's a short walk to cool things, but lack of shade on the walking paths turned me into a sweaty beast. 0/10 if you want to go to the top of the dam unless you're trying to give yourself a coronary.

This appears to be a very popular scenic picnic spot for families to enjoy. It has relaxing walks and dramatic photo opportunities, the Maroondah Reservoir Park is a short drive to Healesville. Come early though if you want to beat the crowds to take photos.
Restrooms
Restrooms are well maintained by Parks Victoria and available for public use.
Dog-friendliness
Many visitors were spotted walking their dogs however, this is not a leash free area.
Picnic area
There is and undercover picnic area with electric grills next to the main car park. Most people brought their own food but there was a small mobile van selling chips, donuts and drinks at reasonable prices (A can of Coke, other brands of soft drink or bottled water were all priced at $3 each).

Recently, my husband and I stumbled upon this amazing retreat, and it's become a favorite we can't resist visiting. The sheer beauty and tranquility of the place are unparalleled, offering everything you need for a perfect outing. From serene picnic spots and barbecue areas to expansive play zones and a breathtaking waterfall, every corner exudes charm. The dam viewpoint provides a stunning panorama, and the various walking tracks let you explore at your own pace. Colorfully vibrant parrots add to the enchantment, and the availability of bird food lets you get up close. Plus, ample free parking makes it incredibly convenient. This destination is more than just a spot—it's an oasis of natural delight and relaxation that continues to beckon.

One of an amazing places I have visited recently, one of my friend surprisingly planned to visit this place for some refreshment and it was absolutely worth visiting not just once but multiple times and you won't get tired, it's that beautiful and majestic. If you visit here, then you don't have to go anywhere, you will get picnic spot, large playing area, water reserves, big dam view point, long bridge walk, beautiful landscapes and so on. Visit once, and it will become your ultimate spot for nature escape.
Playground
Large spacious area for visitors
Restrooms
There are restrooms next to the carpark
Dog-friendliness
Whole area is dog-friendly
Picnic area
Yes, there are picnic and BBQ spots besides car park.

Sadly this park remains neglected. Giant pot hole near entrance gate has been there for ages. Just getting bigger. Remember beautiful gardens when I was a child. Small group of volunteers trying to spruce up the place, but a mammoth task. No rubbish bins, Parks Victoria believe people would take their rubbish home. Guess what they don't. Generally lots of rubbish after weekends and public holidays. Some locals take other people's rubbish with them. A real shame that this park looks so unloved. Please don't use the argument of returning park to native state as dead and damaged plants and trees are never replaced.

Fantastic picnic spot and family location for short walks and a view. The Maroondah Dam has heaps of parking and plenty of BBQ / picnic spots. The stroll up to the dam wall will get your blood pumping for a few minutes, yet is a special thing for families to see, knowing where their water comes from. The bush walks beyond the wall have some I even terrain, safe for most able walkers of lower levels. Not for pushers or those with walking assists. The gate hours shut early, so this is a day time location. Visit in autumn for the colourful changing of the leaves.

It was great fun especially when getting out after being locked down for a long time. Two activities were really good and enjoyable for the kids. First, feeding the parrots next to the main car park area near the shaded picnic area, take some wild bird seeds with you. Second, climbing the steps (around 250m with easy difficulty) to reach the top of the dam wall. We were lucky as the dam was overflowing into spillage so got to see an excellent water fall. There are also many picnic areas around the park.

Maroondah reservoir & park are a short drive out of Melbourne. The grounds have plenty of free parking, BBQ Facilities, toilets and very scenic and photographic spots! We climbed to the top of the dam wall to view to reservoir and look down upon the beautiful old pump houses. Very nostalgic vibe! A lovely trek across the bridge will provide gorgeous views of the valve house. We also spent time climbing the rose steps admiring the lush and well manicured gardens. A great day out and will visit again!

  • Matt Hutch

Truly beautiful park. The river flowing from the dam is spectacular. Amazing bird life. The air is filled with their songs. Lot's of space to picnic with many tables & bench seating. There are also a few gas BBQ's available. Sorry nor sure if they are free. Lot's of open space to walk the dog, they must be kept on a lead. Lot's of space for kid's to run around. A public toilet is here. It was rather wet when I was there & I only got a chance to get a couple of photos before the rain came in.

  • Emily Calandra

Nice spot for a small walk or a stop for a picnic. There are a few options depending on your fitness level.
Restrooms
There are restrooms available which are very basic. Toilet paper is provided, and the toilet has a flush function.
Picnic area
There are multiple tables and chairs for people to sit. Otherwise, you could bring a picnic blanket to sit on the grass. We didn't use any BBQ facilities but did see other people carrying items to use for a BBQ.

  • Kimberley

I have so many wonderful memories of family BBQs here growing up as a child. I don't go up there that often and when I do I always say " I forget how beautiful it is here" Perfect place to take a picnic or to have a BBQ, take your own portable bbq or use the parks coin operated ones. There are rotundas and picnic tables around the park. Plenty of space to kick the footy or play cricket or throw a Frisby. There are toilets available on site too.

  • Winwin Linus

I’ve always loved this park! I’ve been here twice and it never disappoints me. The dam wall was fascinating and the scenery at the top of the dam was scenic and just beautiful The waterfall coming down from the dam and the overall park gave me a jurrasic park vibes HAHAHA They are currently rebuild the rose garden right now. Grab some fruits and snacks and have a picnic here! Recommended for a family day trip in Victoria

  • georgia fitzpatrick

Great place to go on a picnic or a date with lovers or friends! The walking was easy and very scenic, with great photo opportunities. There is space to barbeque and tables to eat on, as well as a lovely waterfall that has a light refreshing spray for a hot day. Bring your family or a date, this place is worth the drive! There are toilets, water faucets and a map too! So no need to worry about bathroom breaks!

  • Edwin Chong

Wanted to see autumn leaves so was a bit disappointed today. Not sure if we missed it or there just aren't that many deciduous trees. Nevertheless, a nice large park with lots of parking, grounds to picnic, some bbq facilities, and the dam wall walk. Best to park in Henderson Loop Road.
Restrooms
2 main toilet blocks in convenient positions.
Dog-friendliness
Large grassy areas for dogs.

  • Sandeep Parekh

Visited on a Saturday with a toddler. He loved it. He loved walking on the dam wall and admiring the reservoir. Going up the wall is a bit of hike but if a toddler can do it, you can too. Parking is not an issue. There is a main park and a top park. Top park is usually not very crowded. We went just at the start of autumn and saw wonderful scenery. Can't imagine what it would be like during autumn.

  • Manikandan Sigamani

Very beautiful and peaceful for a man-made reservoir. Went here during peak hours and it was crowded. But once you start concentrating on the vastness of the water surface and how small you are in that space. And how much water is needed for parts of the city to keep it running, it creates a perspective of government and how systemic things are. Great place to hang out on a moderately sunny day.

  • M M

The reservoir is a scenic place with breath taking views. A trail goes right up to the reservoir lake waters. Feels good to go where there is so much history involved. The construction here had begun in 1917 and concluded in 1921. That's little more than a century ! There's even an old sundial at the base. The only no-no was the restrooms which were filthy and unkempt. This should be addressed.

  • Emma Burrows

Grounds are absolutely beautiful. Great for Family picnics and Bbqs. Great walks and views from the top of the wall are gorgeous. Plenty of car parks, Toilet facilities, picknic tables and shelter Rotundas.
Restrooms
Plenty of restrooms available in block near lower car park. And they have a lovely floral smell
Picnic area
Plenty of picnic tables scattered on the grounds.

  • Richard

A lovely spot for a BBQ or just a nice walk in nature. The dam itself is a fascinating piece of historical infrastructure, with an enjoyable walk across the top, over the spillway and to a great lookout. But it's not just about the dam, there are extensive walks in the immediate area, including walks that join larger tracks like the Maroondah Aqueduct track and the track to Donnelly's Weir.

  • Anchal Sood

Beautiful park particularly the water reserve is stunning. Go on the short hike to be rewarded with great water views. Sadly the waterfall is all dried up. Or at least it was on the day we visited. I think the place would be more stunning or a rainy day. We visited on a hot summer day and it was near impossible to take on any hikes. Plenty of parking and picnic spots available.

  • Kerbray

An expansive park and a great place to enjoy nature. Dogs are allowed on leash and there were plenty of different routes and scenic views. The lake was stunning and the dam was interesting, both from the top view and the bottom of the dam. A few pavilions, picnic areas and points of interest within the reservoir park, and toilet facilities near the entrance too.

  • Al-Haseeb Nomanee

Different lookouts, but all are awesome. You can see falls, greenery, dam, dam wall, the water reserve , beautiful walking trail. Nature lover will find various types of colourful birds and rhododendron. If you plan to stay the whole day, must bring enough food or plan for barbecue. There are some restaurants and cafes in Healesville town centre near the park.

  • Sakina L

Maroondah Reservoir Park beckons as a serene human retreat, where the rustling leaves and tranquil waters compose a symphony of nature. The well-maintained picnic spots offered a perfect pause, fostering connection with both loved ones and the natural beauty that envelops this haven. You can feed the parakeets and cockatoos and it’s such an amazing experience.

  • Alfonso Gutierrez

We went on a hot and overcast day, reckon on a sunny day it would be 5 times better. Great place to do BBQs (lots of families doing them), the walks and trails are phenomenal, they have a dam which you can climb all the way to the top and see the lake, quite a marvelous work of engineering and they all are. Lots of flowers and animals roaming around.

  • harsha lakshmipuram

The kangaroo viewing point was an absolute highlight, offering a unique and up-close experience with these incredible creatures. The availability of clean and well-maintained toilets was a bonus. The walking path along the fence provided breathtaking views, making it a perfect spot for a leisurely stroll. Recommend for a day time visit ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

  • Courtney Moore

maroomdah reservation is a great place to take the family and even the dog / dogs for a walk / picnic. lots of nature to look at, with awesome views if you're willing to climb a few stairs and walk up hill. Appropriate footwear is nesseasary as the rocks are a little hard to walk on. Toilet facitilys are available to use and are also clean.

  • Adel Salah

It is a wonderful place to take family, clean and very scenic, the walk trails are also fantastic with beautiful scenery and view of the dam and the water reserve, views from top of the dam are simply stunning.
Restrooms
Clean but disabled and ladies were closed for some reason, very challenging with linited toilets for everyone.

  • LG

What a beautiful and spacious park for a family gathering, This park has lots of short or longer trails if you like to do hiking Park Victoria well looking after, plenty of BBQ spots available and toilets facility. Make sure to take your rubbish with you as I cannot find any bins. Please come and explore this park

  • R G

What a place to visit! Upon arriving you are greeted by the peaceful sound of the huge waterfall and the views are so beautiful. There's a huge flight of stairs but so worth the walk to see nature at its finest (photos don't do it justice) Must see if you're in the area or willing to drive an hour or so.

  • Melissa Croft

So pretty and unexpected. The gardens are beautiful and there are wild parrots who have become friendly with visitors bringing seed for them although feeding the birds is not recommended as it is not their natural diet. The trees are old and the seasonal change makes it stunning each time you visit.

  • Paul Richards

I used to drive straight past this place on the way to Marysville, or only stop at Selover's Lookout... that was a mistake! This is a great place to spend at least a couple of hours, with some beautiful views of the reservoir and the mountains beyond. There's also a good chance of seeing kangaroos.

  • Hashim Fakhreddin

Beautiful park. A little confusion for the entrance on Google maps. Lots of parking, lots of space for picnics and play, lots of tables and few BBQ. Very nice park for families and groups. A little hike to get to the top of the dam but it's definitely worth it. Then there is also a look out point.

  • Woo C

Wonderful place for a stroll/picnic with your loved ones. It's about an hour drive from Melbourne, which makes it a perfect getaway for a day trip. Lots of tracks to explore and see and the view from the top of the dam is marvellous. Plenty of parking spots. However, it can get muddy on a wet day.

  • Ahmad Wamiq Ghowsi

A very beautiful and family friendly pace Worth a visit The amenities are facilities such as water tubs, BBQ areas and toilets are at a satisfactory level Perhaps a better parking area would make it a better experience for the visitors Over, it is a highly recommended destination for the families

  • Peter Boudville

We climbed the Rose stairs to the top of the dam wall, walked along the top to the spillway and went a little further. If you are happy to do a 2.4 km walk, you can continue but there isn't anything short of that. We then walked down a very steep grassy slope along the dam wall to the bottom.

  • Daniel Ng

Serene location with a lot of history. Was able to admire the construction of the dam and the peacefulness of the area while taking a stroll across the dam. Beautiful views of the reservoir and the park, just a few locals jogging in the area but overall worth the stop to have a look see! More

  • David S

A good quiet place when it is not so crowded. Peaceful walk in the area and amazing view you get to see from the top of the dam. There's a BBQ area available for your family as well. Parking is plenty on an unpaved road. Make sure you have around half an hour to one hour to explore the area.

  • Pamela Alex

Huge grounds! wish I spent more time here. We stopped over as we were driving through and only stayed for 30 minutes! Went for a little walk and saw the let off water from the reserve. Lots of birds flying around ! Very nice peaceful park would recommend taking lunch and spending half a day

  • Rob Clayson

A good natural experience. I entered off Rd 15 and on the day I visited, the road gates were locked but foot access was still allowed. It was a 2.5km walk from the gate to Maroondah Reservoir wall with a lookout along the way. Good Natural bush experience & the Reservoir was a good view.

  • Wimukthi Buddhika Visidagama

Had a fantastic time at Maroondah Reservoir Park, Healesville. The serene atmosphere and beautiful scenery made for a perfect day out with the kids. Highly recommend for a relaxing getaway.
Restrooms
Ladies Restrooms were out of order and there was a long queue for the disabled.

  • Shirley Cecchetto

Interesting place. Unfortunately the map of the grounds was fenced off because of repairs but there is a sign post pointing in the general direction of things. There are (covered) picnic spots large enough to accomodate big families. And centrally located toilet facilities.

  • Peter Lowden

Great place to spend the day having a picnic or a bbq. You can check out the gardens around the base of the dam or walk up to the top and explore the dam and dam wall. Plenty of tracks to go for a walk or just find one of the many places just to relax and enjoy your day.

  • Ralph in AU

A great place to have some peaceful time. Went there just past 8am, not much people in there (which was ideal for "quiet time"). The scenery was relaxing. I quite like just staring at the reservoir itself, it's man-made but it's actually beautiful.

  • Nus. F.

Beautiful and scenic place. I go there occasionally as it is near my place. Really enjoyed every time I spent there. View and the location was terrific. I saw bunch of mid sized kangaroos around 7pm. Must go to place and not that far from the city.

  • Nikhil Dalal

This is one of our all time favourites.. very well connected from Melbourne... It's one of the finest regions for the wineries. We love the dam and the scenic view of the resorvoir. Don't forget to stop by Beechworth Bakery to enjoy delicious pies

  • Dheeraj Kandel

Great walks around the park. There is a coffee van inside the park but charges $6 for a regular coffee. I guess justified when he is running a generator to operate. The lotus pond looked interesting but bit early to bloom. I will back in spring.

  • Mel Chapman

Beautiful viewings but could benefit from more walking connections around the lake. For non-driving hikers there is not enough paths avoiding traffic. Many times I found myself directly on the road in risky driving conditions let alone walking.

  • Vijay PANAMA Patel

It is really Best ever place near to Melbourne.. it takes approximately 2hours to reach there.. you can spend 3 to 4 hours there with family and friends.. you can do trekking as well about 1 km .. overall the best ever place for one day trip..

  • Sai Akash Gorle

Maroondah reservoir Park is the go-to place in the autumn season of Victoria... Such a pleasurable memory, great ambience, and colours of nature. The official notice at the rose garden is that they'll soon introduce 100 new rose plants …

  • sventek

This is a beautiful place with a few things to do in one spot - the spillway especially when it's flowing is lovely, both visually and acoustically, there's nice walking paths including the pretty stoned stairway leading up to the dam wall

  • Stan Fridlind

Excellent place to visit and spend at least half a day. Great walks suitable for all ages and walking levels. Plenty of parking options, clean facilities and great spots for picnic. And not to forget the views, they are amazing.

  • Asseel Yako

Amazing Park Visited on the first of Jan. BBQ, toilets and full of trees, a lot of shady areas and seats. Beautiful lake and dam view with a nice waterfall. Google map may pass the entry by 200m and lead u to a closed gate.

  • Varghese Zacharia

The reservoir is good place for walk, picnic and BBQ. Reach early at the reservoir as there are only few BBQ which are working. Had a tough time finding 2 out of 5 BBQ machine out of order and running around with things.

  • amir Z

The place has much potential But it was poorly maintained. The green spaces are not Look after properly and There was a restroom building that was out of order . It also needs more barbecue places And more gazebos

  • Tony Wenz

Great place to enjoy nature. Plenty of walks. They had a marathon happening when we were here. What a great spot to test yourself! BBQ scattered throughout. Parking galore. No swimming. No dogs on the dam wall.

  • Jag Liyanawaduge

Great place to rest explore or picnic area with BBQ facility. You can take your dog with you (only park area can't take around the dam or near the water. One of the victoria's drinking water catchments.

  • Long 4saken

Very beautiful place. It’s ok for bbq but I would prefer Yan yean reservoir. The walk on top of the wall is a must go, as it is great for photos. Other than that there is not much to do in here really.

  • Kevin Williams

Absolutely lovely dam, I recommend you go during Spring or Summer to see the spillway Falls running but especially on cold days as the hills are covered in a very lovely mist. Definetly a fun journey

Tree or lawn wasn’t maintained properly. Big space. Lot of BBQ’s(~5). Big car park. Reservoir lookouts and walks. Spillway waterfalls in right season. More of a family place than adventure.

  • Asha Kurup

Excellent picnic areas and lots of walking trails to choose from. Wear waterproof shoes if you are wandering off the trails, and plan to take your rubbish home with you. Well worth a visit!

  • Manpreet Kaur

Its a serene beautiful picnic spot with enough parking. Wear comfortable shoes if you want to head to the Dam wall. Sometimes there is a coffee truck too that sells hot chips and donuts.

  • Sharon Harry

Lovely walk around the dam and seeing the excess water on the over spill. My only suggestion is how big the area and car park is it would be great to have a coffee/ice-cream hut or cafe

  • Azhar

Wonderful park to visit just 1 hour from Melbourne. Enjoy multiple walking tracks, a big waterfall and nice views of the dam. The parking area is big but a mid muddy in some places.

  • Steph E

Beautiful place, I’ve been many times. Although if you visit on special occasions (we went on Mother’s Day) they open the flood gates and other tracks that are usually closed off.

  • Jeremy Wong

A great picnic place with good toilets, shelters and walkways to the top of the dam. Autumn is my favorite season as the poplar and maple trees changes to glorious red and gold.

  • Jkfooty

Beautiful calming place for afternoon/evening stroll. 3 places to lookout for, 1) dam overflow/falls. 2)Dam wall 3) Dam walk, stroller friendly buy can be very challenging.

Visited at end July 2023, a very nice and calm place for a short break from driving. Walking around in this cold weather is so refreshing coming from Singapore. Love it.

Beautiful space. We went mid week and it was quiet. A few people doing the walking trails, the locals use it for their morning walks and people take the dogs on leads.

  • Michael Stamos

Nice short walks and beautiful area for a picnic. The reservoir wall is amazing and the spillway is flowing atm so a beautiful albeit man made waterfall can be viewed.
